Images with "Portrait" orientation are stretched out

I've taken photos with "portrait" (vs landscape) orientation with my camera then imported them in iPhoto. Then, I've rotated them in iPhoto so that they display with the correct orientation (i.e vertically), and everything so far looks OK.
However, when I try to build up a slideshow with iDVD, those portrait oriented photos are stretched out sideways in order to fill out the displaying frame (I would have expected them to show as in iPhoto with a black band on each side) .
I've read in the iDVD Help that this may happen whenever landscape AND portrait pictures are mixed together in the same slideshow. So, I carefully isolated each set of photos but with no success.
From what I've read in the iDVD forum, it seems that this is a recurrent problem no matter which iDVD or iPhoto version is used (I use iDVD 3 and iPhoto 2).
Thank for any help.
1.8 Ghz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Well, I tried to use iDVD without reading the tutorial and I confused the drop zone and the slideshow.
Actually, when you drop more than one photo into the drop zone, the width over the height ratio is determined by the first picture. Whenever the first photo is landscape oriented, any subsequent portrait photo appears stretched out. Conversely, if the first photo is portrait oriented, then the following landscape photos will be squeezed.
In any case, the slideshow itself is always displayed correctly.

  • HT201317 Photos (portrait orientation) are cropped and white sides are added. Why?

I have set up iCloud to sync the photos that I make with my iPhone (4S) to my iPad (3). To view my Photo Stream from my PC (Win7 prof SP1), I installed iCloud Control Panel for Windows (v1.1). This also enables me to add older photos to the Stream.
Landscape -orientation pictures are added without problem, but portrait orientation pictures are both cropped and have white sides added. This looks bad on my iPad. Is there some setting I could change to make the upload leave the format of the pictures alone?
I think I have seen this issue addressed before, but there was no solution with it. Any help appreciated, Regards, Dirk.

I have had the same problem as this.
I recently went to Paris for a short break but was without wifi for the whole time.  I took about 300 photos on my iPhone 4. When I returned to the UK (and wifi!) the photos did not sync with my iPad via photo stream. I made sure I had 100% battery, was plugged into the mains, was connected to wifi etc.. I posted on here and was told that they should have synced automatically.  However, I had by then disabled and re-enabled photo stream on my iPhone (according to instructions I found elsewhere) and it seems that photo stream only syncs photos taken since it is enabled.
... So in a further attempt to get my photos from Paris onto my iPad I transferred them onto my windows laptop via cable, and put them into my "uploads" folder in my photo stream folder.  This didn't work either until I uninstalled iCloud on my pc and reset photo stream on iCloud.com. The photos eventually began syncing and appearing on my iPad. The problems now are as follow:
    1) The photos are not in the right order, and there is no way on iPad to sort them.  Why in earth has this happened? Is there a way to sort them correctly? It's obviously frustrating to look through the photos in the wrong order, and even worse when trying to show them to friends and family! I can't work out which order they are now arranged in - its not in "file name" order or "date taken" order. Nonsensical!!
    2) The portrait photos, as the original poster describes above, have all been cropped at the top and bottom and have horrible white borders at the sides where other photos taken on iPad/iPhone would have clean black spaces.
I've been back in the uk for 4 days now and been trying to sort this out on and off since then.  It really is a pain.  Does anyone know if there are ways to transfer the photos more easily and reliably between devices when photos stream fails, and if there are ways to rectify the 2 above issues?

  • I want to create an image gallery with forward back nav, master image with a click to pop out zoom

    Hi Musers,
I'm currently building a photography website and need some help building a specific type of gallery.
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Below is a description of the gallery I want to build:
On the gallery page the gallery appears as a single 'Master Image' with forward and back 'Navs.' and a 'Counter' underneath this single 'Master Image'. Lets say that there are 10 images in this gallery. When the viewer clicks on the forward 'Nav.' the 'Master Image' changes to the next image in the sequence of 10 and the 'Counter' below confirms this progression, in this example the 'Counter' changes from 1 of 10 to read 2 of 10, the 'Master Image' displayed is the second image in the sequence.
Simple so far.. This above I can do as this is just a basic gallery. What follows is what I cannot find a solution for.
I want the gallery viewer to be able to click on the 'Master Image' and launch an enlargement of that image overlaying the gallery page, very much like the way the 'Lightbox' widget displays an enlarged image. When the viewer clicks off the 'Ligtbox' or enlarged image it dissapears, reverting the page view back to the standard gallery view with 'Master Image', 'Navs.' and 'Counter'. I do not want the expanded / Enlarged 'Lightbox' image accompanied by a thumbnail gallery, 'Navs.' / Navigation arrows or a 'Counter'. What I want is to be able to launch an enlarged version of the 'Master Image' as an overlay on the gallery page, something like a pop out.
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Can anyone explain how I can do this? Is it possible?
The solution I want seems to be a highbrid between the standard gallery with navigation arrows kept but minus thumbnails and captions with some of the functionality of the lightbox gallery widget.
I very much appreciate any help anyone can give.
    Thank you

    Hi Harriet,
Thanks for the message. I'm sure as time goes on new features will be introduced but it's a bit of a shame that the widget library is a little basic, oh, and at times it's just that little bit buggy. So far I'm really impressed by Muse despite being ever so slightly disappointed by some of it's limitations. I'd like to see more image gallery options, the ability to set up a client login area or a client ftp within a site, I also tried embedding video but as I'm no programmer the result looked clumsy so some focus on this would be a help. Considering that a good number of people benefiting from a Muse site will be online retailers a zoom function should have been there from the start.
    Best regards

  • Table sizes are stretched out when opened in any browser except explorer

I am working on a site and pretty much have everything lined
out and loads the table dimensions and everything else just the
same as it is created in dreamweaver. The problem that I am having
is that when the site is opened in any other browser the tables are
off or spread out of position. Is there something that i can do to
change this so the site is uniform to more browsers than just
    Explorer? the site is www.greendiamond.mygoldenopportunity.com
which is a test site that i am using to prepare this site. Could
there be a problem with the host as well?
i have seen other posts that are similar but it is still
unclear about how to fix this problem

i didnt seem to mention that the problem lies in my abrasive
and foundry pages under the product menu. its mainly dealing with
the table that the main text is in. its hieght is stretched out
giving too much white space when viewed in netscape, or firefox.
but it still looks good in explorer.

  • Images with white backgrounds are grey - macbook pro

When I create an image in photoshop or save an image from the internet with a white background, when I save it, it comes out grey. Photoshop says it's white (#ffffff) but it's not.
For example I made a banner with a white background on photoshop for my blog, which has a white background. But when I saved the image and uploaded it, the background of the image is grey and you can see the difference. How do you get it to be white again?

Took a few more photos, completely dark. It's more apparent when you're looking directly at it. These blemishes are perfectly aligned and centered from each other. The bleeding around the edges seems normal, but also displays large shadows and along other areas the bleeding transitions into the shadow.
Unfortuneately where I live there is no Genius bar to get this taken care of directly and once and for all. The display clearly needs to be replaced and a manufacturer defect, but the "Mac" service guys locally claim the defect is "barely" visible and accused me of causing the damage and claiming the blemish is above certain keys on the keyboard that cause it. Whichever. This MBP has had issues since the day it was purchased, logic board replaced, battery replaced, ultra drive replaced, etc... etc... this is becoming very annoying when I'm writing my Psychology papers for class.
I've been very patient with AppleCare each time I call, but I'm not receiving any support from Apple regarding this issue. Ridiculous!

  • Exported images with large blank areas

I exported RAW images from Aperture as JPEGs. In many of them, large blank areas appeared instead of the images (ie: the top half of the photo is blank, except for a few squares scattered throughout). Did anyone have a problem like this? How can I solve it?

Yes, I had a similar issue as have others. There was at least one thread ... worth doing a search. Blocks on export image etc. for subject.
I can't recall the "fix" as mine disappeared with either (a) 1.1 and/or (b) doing NOTHING but exports!
(Yup, on a Quad designed for multi-tasking, it is sad isn't it.)
However, as I said, I'm ostrich-like working around a problem that may no longer affect me.

  • All web page display with lines, text are stretched and not legible

all pages are displayed with stretched text, and pictures are also not loaded properly when scroll up and down.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Last update to 3.6.3

I am having similar problems. Ebay was not displaying correctly until I closed down the browser and restarted. Other websites had the same problem. In Facebook, many links are not working.

  • Images with straight lines are distorting (round) on PSCC on iMAC but not on MacBook or second iMAC?

Images are distoring (rounding) on Photoshop CC on my iMAC but same NEF file on MacBook Air or our second IMac do not show distortion.    On preview, the image appears normal.    Is there a way to repair PS CC or does it need to be reloaded?   How can it be repaired or reloaded.
Hard to find the right technical expert - chat isn't working
    Thanks.

You have some lens correction enabled or a graphics hardware acceleration issue. nothing that a reinstall would fix. Since you haven't provided any relevant exact technical info, nobody can say more.

  • Printing landscape and portrait orientations in LR

I have usually been printing from Qimage or QTR for my black and white, despite having heard good things about LR's print module.
This afternoon I thought I would give LR a whirl at printing. I had a series of 4 photos (3 portrait orientation, 1 landscape) selected which I wanted to print one per page. In Print they all appeared oriented in the most logical fashion as I paged through the 4 pages (i.e. the longest dimension of the image ran down the longest dimension of the paper).
I then selected my profile for my paper and hit Print... to go into my printer settings (Epson 3800) for that paper. These latter settings exist for both landscape and portrait orientations of my papers. As I had both landscape and portrait images I wished to print and the settings for the printer driver dialog are identical for both apart from the media orientation, I chose the landscape to get a quick feedback on whether LR would be able to handle a mixed bag of portrait and landscape images.
As I feared, my first print (which was an image in portrait orientation) came out with the long axis of the image squeezed into the short dimension of the paper....so LR saw the choice I had made of a landscape orientation within the printer driver as a hard and fixed choice. Does this mean one can only do print runs of either portrait or landscape oriented images in LR and never combine the two?
I realize there may be an easy answer to this as I've really not used LR for printing till now.
    Thanks for input,
    Dave M

Thanks DJ-G....I can't swear but I am almost positive I had Rotate to Fit checked....indeed that would explain why when paging through the 4 pages in LR they were rotated to fit in the correct orientation. I'll check again. I do understand with Custom Package etc. we can print landscape and portrait when printing multiple images on the same page but my specific concern is printing one image per page and whether LR can handle a series of such prints in one print job if the images are a mix of landscape and portrait orientations.

  • Review Widget Error with Portrait Photos

When previewing my review widgets on the iPad, all of the questions with photos in portrait orientation are messed up even though they look fine when viewed in ibooks author. Even when I delete the photo completely and just have the words, it is still goofy. However, the landscape oriented photos and questions are all normal. In fact, so far all of the other multiple choice formats seem to work fine.  Is there anyway to fix this without having to use all landscape photos?

The error still shows up even when exporting it as an ibooks file and syncing with iTunes. In fact, the book behaved as if it was no different from the preview book keeping all of my notes and even opening to the same page I had bookmarked in the preview version.

  • Nokia N85 - Images in Gallery sometimes are blurre...

  • Portrait orientated Fotos are mainly white after synch with iPad2

    Hello Folks!
Perhaps another one have the same problem as me:
After synching my iPad2 under 10.6.8 with a MacPro
99 portrait orientated fotos from 100 are with huge white areas
sometimes at the top, at the bottom or even both sides.
    Non of the horizontal ones!!!!!
Not even a little white stripe there.
    Only portrait!
Is there someone with the same glitch or better
    with a solution to this?
It happens with all my iDevices,
    iPhone 2G
    iPhone 3GS
    iPad1
    iPad2
    All under 4.3.3 exept the 2g ;-)
I've tried several times these things - no luck:
Deleting all fotos on the device - resynching them
Deleting the cache (on the Mac) rebuilding it and deleting all fotos on the device with a resynch
open a shell to the device and manually deleting ALL files in the folder fotos,
to reset the foto data sql etc.
    Every hint is appreciated!
    Oliver

    Hello!
I have the exact same problem after synchronizing.
I have the iPad 1 with last firmware (4.3.4), Mac 10.6.8 and last iTunes.
    Please help me ….. !!!
    Thanks.

  • Am creating document with Pages. pages are in "portrait" orientation, but two charts at end need to be "landscape". changing the orientation for one section changes it for entire doc. can i have different orientations in Pages for different sections?

am creating a document with Pages.  all pages using "portrait" orientation, except 2 appendices need to be in "landscape".  in Word for Windows it is possible to have different page orientations for different sections of a document.  is that possible with Pages.  Even when i put the appendices in a different section, changing the page orientation changes it for the entire doc.

Make a separate document the size and orientation you want.
Turn that into a pdf and add it back into the original Pages document or into the pdf from from that document.

  • Image files with large pixel dimensions display out of focus in a Bridge viewer?

I Create image files with pixel dimensions 2048x1365. When I display these files from Bridge on my Mac, either by pressing the space bar or in a slideshow, the images are out of focus. If I left click or click/hold and move the images slightly on screen they display in sharp focus. Unfortunately, although landscape-orientation images display correctly with no change in position or size, portrait-orientation files are enlarged and display with top and bottom off the screen. The pixel dimensions of my monitor are 2450x1600 so, yes, if portrait images are displayed at 100% they should display off screen, but this does not excuse the out of focus display of landscape files on this large screen. Nor does this explain why the portrait files are out of focus when they fit on screen. When the same files open in a Camera Raw window they are in focus. When they open in Photoshop at 100% the files are in focus.

Hi, Clay. Photoshop.com has its own forum, so you might want to post this there:

  • Portrait oriented photos are rotated in Instant Movies

When I create an Instant Movie in Premiere Elements 11 for Mac, any stills that are included that are shot in portrait orientation get rotated 90 degrees to the left and are diplayed on their sides during the movie.  They display correctly in the organizer and when viewed in Preview, but the act of putting them in an Instant Movie flips them on their sides.  I've looked through all the settings and preferences that I can find to look for a way to prevent this from happening, but I haven't found it.  I can go into the timeline and then flip the photos back one at a time, but what a pain.

    Columnar
What do your computer resources look like? I know you are running Premiere Elements 11 Mac, but how much installed and available RAM and free hard drive space?
    and
What orientation are these images when viewed at their hard drive save location?
I am strictly an Elements Windows user, but basically Premiere Elements 11 Windows and Mac operate the same. There are differences.
For this test, I used Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit, dual core, 3.2 GHz, 8 GB installed RAM, about 6 GB RAM available, and about 1 TB free hard drive space.
I took 17 photos (sized 3000 x 4000  - 4000 x 3000 pixels) into a 1080i30 project and applied the Instant Movie Celebration. Ten of the 17 were portrait oriented 3000 pixels width and 4000 pixels height and 7 of the 17 were landscape oriented 4000 pixels width and 3000 pixels height. The photo orientation was not changed in the resulting Instant Movie. So, under those conditions I cannot invoke a basic flaw in Premiere Elements 11 Windows Instant Movie even when using pixels dimensions beyond the limits of the project settings.
Where does that leave us....to rule in or out....
    1. Pixel Dimensions which are oversized for the project can cause problems even in Premiere Elements 11 depending on computer resources. As an experiment, could you resize one or twenty and see if that makes a difference in the portrait rotation even though I have no evidence for that being a factor in my Windows model today.
    2. The Instant Movie and Premiere Elements media trace back to what is viewed at the hard drive save location for the photos. What does that look like?
    3. I have no evidence that the 4:3 photos in a 16:9 project are at issue; neither 1 to 17 oversized for the project photos being the issue if all that is on that Timeline is combo of 3000 x 4000 and 4000 x 3000 photos. How did you make sure evaluation of the issue?
    a. Did you take 20 of those 3000 x 4000 photos into a new project and apply the same Instant Movie to them and ended up with them all rotated? Or did you just remove 1 to 20 of them from the existing Timeline, leaving the landscape oriented ones and those .mov videos as is? Did you find any difference in this matter if your Timeline was without the video included?
Just some thoughts for now as I think about this some more.
Looking forward to your follow up.

Add On...What computer resources did you have for your Premiere Elements 7 where you seem to be saying that you used 4000 x 3000 - 3000 x 4000 photos under similar circumstances as now and had no problems. Assumed a Windows experience.
Add On...I did not see Nealeh post until after I had posted mine.
