  • Image enduser workstation: question about ACF and Adobe Reader component

Our IT department is investigating what components should be included in the image for enduser workstations to ensure they will be able to work with interactive forms without any problem. I know ACF and Adobe Reader are the only requirements for endusers but I have some questions about this:
    1. As of what version of Netweaver 2004s is it no longer a requirement to have the ACF component installed on the frontend to enable online interactive scenario's for endusers?
    2. Can I recommend to allways install the very latest Adobe Reader version available in the market or is the Adobe Reader version depending on the SAP NetWeaver version we use?
    kind regards
    Angelique Heutinck
    ([email protected])

    Hi Angelique,
The non ACF version is called Zero Client Installation (ZCI)
ERP2005 SP 5 - Zero Client Installation (ZCI)
    NW04S Stack 08
Reader 8.0 for ZCI, Reader 7.08 for ACF based forms. Don't use Reader 8 for ACF yet, since there is no installer working yet...

  • Setting Workstation name automatically after/before imaging

    Hello,
I am planning on imaging 150 workstations from one base image. Currently, the workstation name (computername or wsname) is 'uitdelen'. All imaged workstation also receive this name.
In the past i used the tool WSNAME to change the name upon first boot using the /GH switch.
But doing this on 150 PCs is troublesome.
What i would like is that i have a txt file with the serial numbers of the machines, and the workstation name (computername) it should receive. This file would have to be read by the Zen 7 boot CD (i use 6.5, but use the 7 bootcd, because that recognises the nic, where the PXE doesnt)
    Any hints?

  • PXE, Put an image on this workstation on next boot, broken

    Hey all,
    ZEN 7 sp1 IR4, NW(oes) 6.5 sp8. Since the upgrade, I have not been able to
push out images to workstations on next boot.
In my beta environment reverted a snapshot to IR3 HP6 (?) and it worked. I
put on IR4 back on and it broke again.
Any ideas when a fix might come out so we don't have to walk/drive around to
    reimage computers?

  • Action "Apply Assigned Imaging Bundle"

    Version: 11.3.1
I need to run action "Apply Assigned Imaging Bundle" against several devices, is it possible to run this action against a device group? This option is greyed out, but just wanted to know if this can be done via a script or any other way to do this? Finding the device and ticking the box is not the quickest and easiest method when there are 100 devices to find.

  • Add-on Images

Our College is sucessfully using ZENworks images to image our workstation.
We are now at the stage where we can image a workstation and apply "add-on images" as done in ConsoleOne through the "common" tab of an application.
When the workstation boots into the PXE (Linux) the base image / workstation image is applied, and then the "add-on image".
However.... The application (add-on image) is not available to the user when they logon, and on some occasions, the application is setup at first logon.
    We would prefer the following:
    1. Workstation Images master / default / base
    2. Additional images / add-ons are applied
    3. After the imaging but before a user logs onto the workstation for the first time, we would like all "add-on" images to be installed
    Notes:
Workstations are all Windows XP Pro
Server running ZENworks, etc, is a NetWare 6.5
    Special Notes:
We have two types of working workstations, some with:
    - one partition (OS & Apps) - all newly acquired workstations
    - two partitions (the old Symantec Ghost days) - a boot partiton (1) and then the second partition is for Windows and apps etc.
I have noticed that on a system with two partitons part of the NALCACHE is on C: drive and the bulk on D: drive (1st & 2nd partitions).
However we have also tried to use add-on images on single partion workstations as well.
Anyone who would be able to give a hand would be great. We are new to using ZENworks to deploy images (we can get the base image part alright, it is just the add-ons, etc).
    Cheers and thanks heaps!

    Anthony,
    We take a different approach with our lab machines (1300 or so systems) in that we do have the following;
    - base image consisting of our operating system which in our case is WinXP in our lab environment
    - driver addon image - used to address different model types (40 or so different models) includes the cmdlines.txt file which is called by sysprep to automate the installation of drivers
    - remaining application addon images which are impractical to deploy over the network via the Novell Application Launcher. In our case they are typically large installation packages such as ArcGIS, SPSS, NX6, LabWindows, etc..
    So.. the process is something like this;
    - Machine brings down images (base + drivers + applications)
    - Sysprep runs.. installs drivers..
    - autologin to desktop.. with an Admin account
    - runs an installation script the 'first time' which has all of our installation options for applications. Called within startup folder.
    - towards the end of the script we have a reg key which simply sets the GINA back to NWGINA. In our lab environment we purposely give students an admin account, and have deepfreeze installed on the image.
So.. our installation script looks like the attached file.
We do a few weird and wonderful things to customize for our environment, but the process can be modified to fit your purposes.
In terms of Windows Vista and Windows 7 the process is similar although quite different. All of our applications are installed during phase 4 of sysprep rather than after sysprep. Each addon image has it's own installation script.
Not sure if any of this makes sense... but it works for us. Everything is automated. Machines turn on or restart by themselves (WOL/Wake-on-alarm/deepfreeze), they PXE boot, bring down images, install drivers/applications, and in the end students are presented with a Novell login. Reimaging labs is typically between 2am and 7am.

  • Need to clone an Image created with MDT

    Hi All,
I have a custom image which I created in VMWare with MTD 2013. The MDT server is local, I am the only one using it and it is not on the network or available in other sites. I was asked to provide an Acronis or Northon Ghost cloned image so that other admins
can image workstations/laptops without having to ship the device to me, to deploy with MDT. I thought about imaging a workstation and cloning the drive before sysprep starts, but the problem is that I run a task sequence at the end
Final Configuration for MDT 2013 LT created by Jonan, to delete any leftover by MDT (C:\MININT, C:\_SMSTaskSequence) and auto login the first time. I might be wrong, but I believe that the workstation needs to be connected to the MDT server for all task
    sequence to complete.
What is the best way to clone this image?

    Hi,
The simplest option IMHO would be to completely deploy a simalar machine using MDT and then, after deployment completes, run sysprep manually. Used with the option "shut down", your machine sould be off and in a syprepped state. Than manually create
the Acronis/Ghost image and distribut that.
Even better howerver would be to provide MDT deployment in your other sites. You can utilize DFS Replication to maintain a single point of administration, while still proving a coherent deployment method throughout your network.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Martin

  • Imaging without sysprep

I have been working on creating windows xp images ready for deployment on
a variety of workstations and uploading them to an imaging server. These
images are used either for single download or to use for multicast
sessions when the operating system becomes corrupt or for regular
maintenance. I use zenworks 7 imaging cd to upload/download images to
workstations, when cloning a master pc in multicast session i have to
sysprep the master otherwise i get SID conflict. However when i create a
fresh image and upload to server i do this without syspreping and i get no
SID conflict when bringing that image back down to any workstation of same
spec. Is this a feature in Zen7? or is it a case that the image file does
not contain SID by default and are generated only when the image is
    downloaded?

    Why not just use SysPrep?
If you are worried about the SID, you could always use a free tool like
newSID and run it first thing after an image has been restored.

  • Imaging Stuck on Skipping System Bundle Knowledge Base Files

I am getting this message when imaging with our Windows 7 image to any model
machine. I'm not quite sure what is causing imaging to freeze at this point,
but I'm kind of stuck. We have ZCM 10.3.2. This started happening after I
applied the patch for ZCM to register Windows 7 SP1 computers. Thanks.

    wilhelmm,
If you take a peek in your ztoolkit log file on one of the workstations that experienced this, my guess is that you will find an error that states "registration failed".
We have not found a reason why this happens, and it seems to be a completely random occurrence.
Aside from deleting the "error" related keys from HKLM\Software\ENGL\Ztoolkit, decrementing restartphase, and rebooting the workstation, (or simply manually running the zac reg command specified in the ztoolkit configuration, there is no good way to get around this aside from re-imaging the workstation again.
Please let me know if you find out anything interesting, as this problem seems to rear its ugly head randomly at the most inopportune times.

  • Workstation devices registration breaks

Mangaged workstations objects in ZCM randomly are no longer registered on the server, the workstation then must be re-imported. Often times we don't know this has happened until we try to image the workstation or control it remotely. ZCM version 10.3.3. Is there a fix for this?

  • Old files showing up after re-image

I'm having a really bizarre issue with re-imaging our workstations.
We have Zen7 installed on a SLES 10 server. I use the following script to re-image our XP SP3 workstations:
    img pd1
    sleep 10
    img pc1 ntfs 10236
    sleep 10
    img pa1
    sleep 10
    img rp $PROXYADDR //$PROXYADDR/mnt/imaging/image.zmg a1:p1
(the sleep commands are so I can verify that the prior command was successful).
I'm finding that I have files that are not on the image.zmg but were on the previous hard drive partition 1. I have even had processes start up that are not on the image.zmg image like patch management, etc. It's like the partition was never deleted. Is there a way to wipe the partition completely before the restore?

it would be something like this IIRC and the commandsyntax IS WRONG, can't
    check the correct syntax atm:
    fdisk /dev/sda << #mypart#
    d
    1
    p
    q
    #mypart#
so the idea is that you pass everything between #mypart# to the fdisk
program, blank lines are enter presses.
so you would just fire fdisk up and note down all the steps you would
normally do manually to erase and create an partition.

  • Extremely slow imaging on HP DC7700 with 2GB of RAM

    Hi
Hope you can help. I've got a dozen new HP DC7700's that we are
attempting to image with Zenworks 6.5 SP2 Hotpatch 4. We have about 20
different types of workstation in this environment and all of these
workstations image in approximately 6-8 minutes.
When we first received the HP DC7700 I had to make some mods to our
environment as discussed in the following topic ...
    http://groups.google.com.au/group/no...bac07299d56ecd
.... and finally got the HP DC7700 (with 1GB of RAM) imaging (with
exactly the same image and similar size driver package) in 15 minutes
(i.e. about double our normal imaging time). Put that on the things to
do list to find out why the imaging time doubled but we could live with
    that.
Then the other day we got some HP DC7700's delivered with 4 x 512MB
sticks of RAM and started the imaging process. Now it's ground to a
halt. It's taking approximately 3 hours to image the workstation. So
now I have to find a solution.
I've tested to make sure it's not a problem with the additional 1GB of
RAM by removing all the RAM and using the additional 1GB RAM as the
only RAM in the workstation. The workstation imaged in about 15 mins as
before. Put 2GB in the workstation and imaging slows down to a crawl
    again.
Does anyone have any idea what is going wrong and where I should start
to look to fix the problem?
I am aware of the release of Zen 6.5 SP2 IR1 but would prefer not to
upgrade at this stage as we've just got everything working so well here
that I'd like to get some mileage out of it before upgrading and
    possibly introducing some new issues.
    Many thanks
    Craig

I guess trying that as fast as possible is your only chance.. there will
only be ONE final patch for 6.5 and this is already in beta. If the problem
is really the ram and it could be fixed easily you have a slight chance
that this could move into the latest patch. Otherwise you will have to live
with it if there is no other workaround

    Optiplex 745, Windows XP
We were able to image these workstations during fall of 2007 using the zenworks that was on the server at the time, 7.0.1.7020
Customer mentioned to me that this summer when the went back to re-image the workstations all of them that were imaged started booting Windows long enough to see the XP logo, then it pops to a blue screen, "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."
This puzzles me, as I know that nothing has changed with the image.
I've checked the SATA drive settings, and have tried both "normal" and "legacy", with no change.
I've downloaded and am using the imaging files from "zen7sp1ir3a_hp2-december_08".
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this problem. This customer is getting turned off of ZEN imaging because of this.
