IMail 4.5 in OS X 10.6.8

I double clicked on the space bar between the Inbox and the Message windows in the default view to get a separate message window. This requires me to double click a message in the Inbox to display that message in the separate message window. Having tried that for a while, I would like to go back to the original arrangement with the Inbox over the Messsage window in a single view, but I don't know how to do that and Mail Help is no help. I'd very much apprecciate any help anyone can offer with this issue. Stuart

Stuart,
Move your cursor to the very bottom of the message list on the bar.  Drag the bar up and the preview will display below it.

  • Unable to receive email from in iMail

My icloud email account is offline. I am unable to send and receive emails ...
I am using the correct icloud user and password. I am able to log in and use my email from the iCloud site (www.icloud.com)
But not getting email in iMail.
I opened System Preferences and went to Mail and in accounts it ays: The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty.
However, there is mail.icloud.com typed in except I cannot change it because it is grayed out.
Also I went to the "Mail Connection Doctor" inside iCloud.
There I have two messages. The first one says "Mail was able to connect to the internet."
Below that is another message: next to MobileMe IMAP... it says:Could not connect to this MobileMe IMAP server.
Check your network connection and that you have entered the correct information in the Account Preferences. Also verify
that the server supports SSL. If it does not,  deselect the SSL checkmark in the Advanced tab of Account Preferences.
All the network connection information is correct. I am able to connect to the internet. I don't know if the server supports SSL.
But the box is checked and the IMAP Path Prefix box is empty. Port is 993.
Can someone please help figure out why I am not getting my icloud email and how to fix it.
    thanks!!

    Never Mind!
Problem went away after I restarted the computer

  • One POP email no longer working in Imail

I have two POP email accounts that have been working quite well on my MacBook for several months.  About a week ago one of them stopped receiving emails.  I have deleted the account and set it up again to no avail.  If I check the account information it lists all the emails on the server.  PLEASE help me figure this out.  I can open it on my browser and the mail is being delivered just fine there - just not on my imail account.  The two email accounts that I have are set up the same and only one is receiving mail.  Thank you for any help!

Attached is a link that gives the settings for my web-based email http://help.securepaynet.net/article/4715
All settings on both email address are set the same in my Mac Mail.  One is working the other is not.  I am also receiving emails for both accounts on my blackberry.  This is an Apple problem as there are many others that have reported the same problem on Apple's Support page.   I have deleted and re-entered this email and still nothing.  There are email messages that are listed on the server but are not being delivered to my email account.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • Safari, iMail, iTunes, and Dashboard won't open

A week ago, Safari, iMail, iTunes, and Dashboard won't open but other applications will, like Mozilla, iPhoto, Word, Excel, etc. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get Safari and the other programs to open? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi, I'm replying to myself to add more information on my case. I wasted half my day yesterday trying to fix this, looking into forums and trying to talk to people about it and there it absolutely no answer. Yesterday I installed the programs necessary to sync my phone in my wife's macbook and nothing bad happened. So I'm guessing it isn't about the phone plugins I installed. I've tried to download combo updates but they crash as soon as I try to install them - I even tried to install a 10.4.10 update.
This is the error message I get:
    Command: Installer
    Path: /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer

I put part of in on google to check if there was anybody discussing anything related and someone suggested - bizarrely enough - updating adobe reader. I did it just in case and, of course, it didn't work. I repaired permissions a million times already, I rebooted in safe mode, I scaned the computer with apple jack, I verified the disk with diskutility - which showed nothing. I tried downloading an anti-virus (ClamXav), but I couldn't open it also, I trashed my prefs, I deleted all internet plugins, but still.... nothing. I'm about to quit and take it to the very expensive - yet reliable - authorized tech support apple has in Rio. Any ideas, anyone?

  • How do I move my iMail accounts and settings to a new mac?

How do I move my iMail accounts and settings to a new mac when both machines are running Mountain Lion?
On the destination Mac, I have two mail accounts that I want to keep, so essentially I will be adding another 4 accounts (from source mac) to the exting 2 accounts (on destination mac).  How can this be done?

If the request above is too difficult (no replies??), then can someone help me with moving my mail & settings between the two Mountain Lion machines (the 3 mail accounts from the source machine to be moved to the new mac - the 2 mail accounts on the new Mac can be trashed if required - simple move from one machine to another)?  Is that easier??

  • Gmail Account in iMail - adding multiple exchange SMTP addresses to Gmail

Summary:  I am trying to use my Gmail to send messages through iMail from my other addresses that I have added to my Gmail account successfully.
    Detail:
I currently have 5 email addresses, and the most recent one I created was my Gmail address.  Everything is working perfectly online with gmail and on my ipad - I can send and receive from each email address within my one email account, Gmail, BUT my computer is not happy.  I am still willing to work with iMail as I have always enjoyed using it, however it will not allow me to send out emails through my Gmail account using my two email addresses that happen to be Exchange emails.  My Pop and IMAP addresses that I have added to my Gmail account are fine and their SMTP addresses are working, but my two Exchange SMTP addresses are currently listed as "Offline" even though I have entered all the information that I think is correct, or is what I entered online in my Gmail account and they work perfectly fine there and also on my ipad.  I just can't seem to get them to work in iMail.  Everything else is synchronized and everything updates between my iMail, my iPad and the Gmail online account, and I have a feeling that it is just not possible to get the exchange accounts working on the iMail through Gmail.  The two emails I am working with here are university emails that have their own addresses, but run through Windows live.  So they are smtp.exchangelabs.com, but the actual domains are l.uky.edu and student.gsu.edu.  I have been working on this all day so please let me know if you are able to help me in this struggle.  I have also downloaded the Gmail notifier, so I will try it out, but I am still a fan of iMail.
Settings in iMail that are currently not working yet are working online with Gmail - in the account preferences under the advanced tab in iMail under the drop menu for SMTP outgoing server where it says "Edit SMTP server list" or something like that:
    Server Name: smtp.exchangelabs.com
    Advanced:
            Use Custom Port: 587
SSL is NOT checked (it is TSL for my accounts)
            Authentication: Password
username: <my entire email address at the domain>@student.gsu.edu
password: <my password for that email address>

Yeah, this really stinks. The feature is definitely gone in iOS 4. I used it all the time in iPhone OS 3.x. You can still do it in Mail in OS X (the trick is to add extra the email addresses to your main email address, separated by commas. Those will then be available to reply with) but you can't on the iPhone. Even if you tell iTunes to sync your Mail Account info, it doesn't work.
That service seems like an interesting idea but 1) I don't want to send my mail to a third party, 2) I don't want to have to pay for what should be basic functionality, and 3) I shouldn't have to resort to a third-party for what appears to be a regression on Apple's part.

  • IMail: How can I set mail preferences to display actual email address and not short names.

Even though I have it correctly set in Preferences , i.e. "Use Smart Addresses" is unchecked, the addressee automatically changes to the person's name rather than the email address.   I am unable to find a way to display the actual email address option on iMail (Yosemite)  I do not want nicknames/short names but want the actual email address to display on my address line.   Can anyone advise please?

    Thanks, Ernie
I wasted about 20 minutes looking for it and couldn't find it

  • Imail dates into ical - Not working well for me

I thought one of the new imail features in Lion was that you can click on a date in an email and it will create an event in ical.  But every time Ive tried it, it doesnt seem to recognize the correct date.  It recognizes the time but tries to put the ical event on todays date - not the date of the event...(whether it says something like tomorrow or the 17th --- and it's happened with emails Ive gotten from Apple addresses!)...  So Im wondering how it's supposed to work?  Because even when it tries to create an event, it gives me a chance to edit, but I dont seem to be able to edit the date...so its been useless.  It gives me the ability to edit the name of the event but not the date.
Is this working smoothly for other people?  Any suggestions?
The latest example was an email from an Apple employee that said "I can meet with you at 12pm on the 17th."  or "will see you at the workshop at 11am"

I have a similar problem, except in my case when I click on "add to ical" nothing happens - nothing shows up in i cal.  This function worked perfectly OK in Snow Leopard.

  • Updating to 10.5.8 has screwed up my iMail

Have just updated my iMac (1.83 GHz intel iMac) to OSX 10.5.8 and all seems really good apart from my iMail.
Am now unable to open Preferences in iMail, hear that I have new messages but can't find them and have lost JUNK folder in the list of folders.
Any idea how I can repair my iMail???
    HELP!

You also might want to try rebuilding your mailboxes. Choose the "Mailbox" item on Mail's menubar and select "Rebuild" at the bottom of the dropdown menu. If "Rebuild" is grayed out, that would suggest that you have more than one account, so you would need to click on the ▶ to the left of "Inbox" in your "Mailboxes" so that the inboxes expand to show the actual mail acounts. Then select each account's mailbox one at a time and choose "Rebuild." Repeat for "Sent," "Drafts," etc.
As a future point of reference, when future software updates are posted, rather than install the incremental updates via Software Update, you might want to instead google, for instance, "10.5.8 combo update" and download it from the Apple site and (re)apply the combo update, even though you might be going from "10.x.y-1" to "10.x.y." Over the years, I've read enough complaints in these forums about stuff getting broken with updates and successful recommendations to use the combo updates regardless, that that is how I have been doing my software updates for years with no problems. Also, I always run disk utility verify disk (and repair from installer DVD or bootable clone, if necessary) and disk utility repair permissions before applying combo updates. If you do all those things, I would claim that you will run a significantly lesser risk of running into problems like this.
If none of these things help you out, and if ALL of your accounts are IMAP accounts, you could try quitting Mail, then going into your home folder's Library, select the "Mail" and "Mail Downloads" folders, control-click on them and choose "compress" (this is so you don't lose anything in case things go wrong). Then, since you can't get into your Mail's preferences, you are going to have to figure out what all your accounts' settings are: smtp server name and port, SSL or not, same for IMAP, then trash your Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail and relaunch Mail. It will look like a first run of Mail and you will have to recreate all of the email accounts' information. If any of your accounts are POP, this procedure may need to be modified a bit in order to protect and/or recover your email; I don't have any POP accounts so can't really speak to that. Others here could, though. But hopefully, you wouldn't have to go to these extremes.
PS - your profile indicates you are running Tiger, but this is a Leopard mail forum; I assume that your profile is just out of date and that you are in fact running Leopard?

  • How do I get Address Book work with iCal and imail?

I've used ACT! for years and I have not found a reasonable Mac alternative.  imail, ical and address book are great, but they don't play together.  Any suggestions?

can anyone help with this, even if just to confirm that there is no fix?

  • Attachment in iMail query

When adding an attachment to iMail it defaults to displaying it as open document rather than an icon. I can set it appear as an  icon but as soon as I start editing e-mail it reverts to an open document again. Can anyone help please?

Download and run the free application TinkerTool (not "TinkerTool System"), select the Applications tab, and check the box marked
Don't display contents of attachments inline
    Then relaunch Mail.

  • Error 1402: Could not open key ..... IMAIL

I am trying to install Adobe Reader 9 on a friend's computer.  He desperately needs it to print pdf documents.
I have tried everything I know, including removing all traces of Adobe from the registry and from the files.  I don't seem to be able to remove the file pdfshell.dll, though.  Every time I download Adobe Reader 9.4 to install it , I get the following error code:
    Error 1402_Could not open key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run\OptionalComponents\IMAIL
Then the system backs out of the operation.
    What can I do?

  • Just upgraded to SL, Can't get imail to work.? (newbie) Please help!!

I keep getting this message. Can someone please help me out. I am totally clueless!!
    *ERROR MESSAGE:*
_"You can't use this version of the application Mail with this version of Mac OS X.You have Mail 3.6."_

    It works now!
    Here is what I did...
In spotlight I typed "mail", I opened up a "message", and it opened. I looked on my desktop and there was an "iMail" icon that was not there before. I was then able to access the mail normally as i would with Leopard. I deleted the old shortcut on my desktop and placed the new icon in the lower toolbar.
    Worked as good as new..

  • How do I stop iMail from asking for password over and over??

I have my keychain set up, but iMail keeps asking for my passwords (I have 3 POP accounts) over and over... sometimes up to 3 times in a row, then it will go away and a few min later pop back up. Why is it doing this and how can I fix it so I don't have to type it in a millions times a day!?

This has been asked and answered so many times; the summary is below. If I've missed any and none of those works, try searching for Mail Password and see if there is anything else in there.
Delete all of the Mail passwords from Keychain Access.
    Run Keychain First-aid.
    Repair disk.
    Repair Permissions.
    Re-enter Passwords in Mail.
One or all of those usually fix the problem.

  • I am trying to set up a Hotmail account in iMail on a new iMac with Mountain Lion.

I followed the instructions to add a new account and it detects everything perfectly. I also used the Connection Doctor and it showed green lights for both incoming and outgoing server connection. I also manually "Get Mail" and it shows loading incoming messages but nothing ever appears. When I right click on the Inbox and select "Account Info" it shows all of the messages on the POP server! But when I select "That have been downloaded to my MAC" it obviously shows ZERO. I have checked all of the account settings on hotmail. Servers are correct and settings are not preventing any email download. But as I said before, iMail acts like it is downloading messages but it never does.
here is what the acocunt info looks like:
Here is the Connection Doctor Status:
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Heather

I did use that functionality. I am looking at this thread now on my iPhone and I see the images just fine!

I normally use my inbox as short term tasks (to do) however, I also need to place some emails, which I need to attend to oin a longer term. Therefore, I need to figure out how to move an email from iMail to iCal and thereby change it to a task. This facility is available in Outlook, but I have not fopund it in iCal/iMail.

    Launch Mail.
    Click "Message" in the menubar.
Move mouse pointer down to "Move to" or "Copy to"
    Drafts folder will show up.
    Best.
