IMAP command "APPEND"...?

My INBOXSent Messages keeps filling up and I get this error which locks my mail.
Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other messages in mailbox "INBOXSent Messages" in "On My Mac" so that you can complete the actions while online.
Additional information: The IMAP command "APPEND" (to INBOXSent Messages) failed with server error: Invalid mailbox name..
How can I get my mail working again as this is locking up my mail server every time?

This can happen anytime you give an IMAP command offline that the server is not able to fulfill once you go back online. Mail's less-than-helpful response is to keep retrying the command, without regard for the feedback from the server. And there's no way for you to revoke the command.
In my case, Mail kept recreating a draft email that I had deleted. I believe it had an attachment that was too large for the server to accept. So Mail kept creating copies of this draft, pushing my account over the usage limit. I closed Mail, accessed my account through a different app, deleted all those copies, and emptied the trash. When I returned to Mail, it went right back into its loop, creating more draft copies until my account was again over the limit.
This problem was discussed, but never resolved, as long ago as October 2007. Here's an archived thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1198026
I tried this simple fix, which worked for others, but had to undo it in my case: http://snipr.com/pmlte
I'm now trying another approach. If it works, I'll describe it. Mail has been launching for 14 minutes now.

  • Exchange- IMAP command "APPEND" (to inbox) failed with server error

    Not sure, but think I was adding a mailbox to the Exchange Server's inbox, and now I am hammered with repetitive alerts;

Any ideas on how to stop the messages/undo/cancel, or anything to have Mail.App work again?
    thanks.

  • Connecting to Exchange Server 2013 using IMAP command gives authenication error

    Hello All,
My application (it is a C# code) connects to Microsoft exchange server 2013 using POP3 and IMAP, processes the emails, marks as read and move to particular folder if it is processed successfully else to an different folder.  In this sometimes,
I am getting authentication failed error from IMAP however same mail is processed when it is executed next time. Few times it is processed with out error. I am not sure what is causing this issue. We are connecting to IMAP using tcpIMAP command.
This is the same application which we used with exchange server 2010 now we are upgrading to exchange server 2013. I have verified that the setting of exchange 2010 and 2013 are the same.
To verify the IMAP command I created a sample application using C# which will try to connect to IMAP service and log in to exchange server 2013; it fails to authenticate the user after connecting for few times and then it starts to authenticate
successfully then again fails for few times and then authenticates. I am not sure why this is happening.
Please suggest how can I resolve this.
    Thank you, Santha

Since I've upgraded to Snow Leopard I've also moved from Entourage 2008 to Mail, iCal & Addressbook with the new Exchange support.
My company exchange server is Exchange 2007.
Mail works fine except the occasional Mail crash.
iCal worked fine the first two days and then it came with an error the it cannot connect to the Exchange server and asks me to type my email address again. Doesn't work so I need to put my exchange calendar in iCal in offline. But now there is no syncing with the Echange server.
This only occurs when I add a meeting request in iCal.
My Exchange administrator has reset my mailbox on the Exchange server.
This helped for about 4 hours. Now it's the same problem.
I have a feeling the when you setup your exchange account in Mail it uses different settings for Mail and iCal with the autoconfig.
Anybody has a solution? My Exchange admin cannot find any problems on his side. Do I need to make changes on my iCal client or do we need to wait for OS 10.6.1 ?

  • Hi  i'm trying  to delete my bulk mail messages but it keep telling me this message"The IMAP command "DELETE" failed with server error: DELETE failed - Mailbox is reserved "

Hi  i'm trying  to delete my bulk mail messages but it keep telling me this message"The IMAP command “DELETE” failed with server error: DELETE failed - Mailbox is reserved " is there any way to   delete of stop messages from coming into it ??
    thanks

Sounds like the mail server thinks you are asking to delete the bulk-mail mailbox instead of some/all of the messages within it.
How are you trying to delete your bulk mail messages? That is, what are you doing, step by step, up to the error message.
What you should probably be doing is selecting the bulk mail mailbox, selecting one of more messages inside it, then hitting the "delete" key.

  • IMAP command "UID COPY"

after years and years of using Entourage i decided to switch to Mail since I just upgraded to Leopard. i was setting up my Gmail (IMAP) and was told once the folders (gmail labels) appear, i should go to the top menu "Mailbox" --> Use This Mailbox For --> and assign a corresponding folder. So i did this for Drafts, Sent and Junk but keep getting this error messages :
is there a way to unassign mailbox commands? help!

    Hi,
Your solution may be found in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5657169#5657169
Worked for me. Seems that there is a new setting checkbox, that is now checked, that was not checked before.
    Good luck!

  • Sent messages aren't saved in IMAP server

Since I upgraded to Leopard the other week I'm having a problem with Mail, the messages I send are not stored on our IMAP server.
The error that shows up in system.log is:
Nov 1 14:57:02 iblack Mail[2113]: Error (null) occurred while trying to append messages to outgoing store. Ignoring and proceeding with delivery...
This is the least informative error I've ever seen
The IMAP server has no problem storing other users' sent items, it also works perfectly on the two other macs we have here which aren't running Leopard.
I tried googling the error but that yielded 0 results, anyone here able to shed some light on the problem/error?
    Tomas

Same problem here, connecting to a Groupwise (not latest) server. Whenever Mail.app 3 tries to upload/save a new messsage to the server, it would not save and completely lose the message!
I found slightly more information by turning off the "Save to server" option for Sent and Drafts, created a new message that I saved as draft, and then tried to manually move items to the Drafts or Sent folder on the IMAP server.
The error I received was: The message <message> could not be moved to the mailbox <mailbox>-<account>. The IMAP command "APPEND" (to <mailbox>) failed with server error: APPEND NotJunk.
To my inexperienced eyes, it looks like the latest version of Mail changed it's default IMAP handling commands that may be incompatible with older IMAP servers. Anyone else have more insight or know how I can get back Mail.app 2.x from Tiger?

  • Mail crashing using IMAP account

I am having an issue with my IMAP Mail application. I installed Leopard on Friday and have used my e-mail over the weekend with no issues but today I was sending an e-mail and it seemed to send but then all of a sudden a message popped up and said:
"+Some actions taken while the account “IMAP Account” was offline could not be completed online.+
+Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other messages in mailbox “On My Mac” in “On My Mac” so that you can complete the actions while online.+
+Additional information: The IMAP command “APPEND” (to Drafts) failed with server error: Invalid mailbox name..+"
It also saved a copy of the e-mail to my drafts and the sent folder which it doesn't normally do. When I closed the box more copies of the same e-mail saved to my drafts and then another box popped up with the same information above. I closed that one and then more copies of the e-mail were saved into my draft folder. This kept repeating until eventually there were 44 copies of this e-mail in my drafts and then my mail just crashed and closed. I have tried deleting the drafts and the copy in the sent folder but somehow it keeps coming back and taking over my my mail.
Has anyone else had this problem before?

Got Mail working correctly on my Powerbook now.
As previously stated, my iMac Mail 3.0 app was functioning as it should, but not the powerbook.
First I reinstalled 10.5 on my PB with an erase and install and then used the migration assistant for all my preferences, users and documents (luckily I had a bootable backup of my 10.4.10 install made by Superduper!).
And did following steps: I first installed the login patch through software update. After a reboot, I shut off my internet access. I repaired my keychain with keychain first aid (I did this twice until no errors were shown). I ensured that .Mac sync was deactivated for keychains and mail rules (I assume this messed up my previous installation tentative, because my setting from the iMac where mixed up with the PB keychains). Then I rebooted again (just for peace of mind). I then connected to the net and started Mail. After the short rebuild, I found all my setting to be intact and working.
(Anecdote: my previous install was marred with IMAP access problems; the more I tried to fix them, the more it went wrong, cumulating in Mail.app crashing on start after a few error messages. In the meantime my repeated tries to access my IMAP email account resulted in my webhosting company blocking my IP address. So while I was assuming my problems were related only to Leopard, it was infact my ISP that was disallowing access. Once this was resolved with my ISP (at midnight! I love the service they offer), I reinstalled 10.5 to get everything working correctly.)

  • Move command rejected because of "invalid header"

I've been having problems moving mail from one mailbox to another. I have several messages in Maibox A on my work server that I'm trying to move over to Mailbox B on Me.com. But when I try to drag and drop. I get the following error:
The message “[subject of message]” could not be moved to the mailbox “Mailbox B — [my ID]@mac.com.” The IMAP command “APPEND” (to Mailbox B) failed with server error: Message contains invalid header.
At first I thought this had to do with a recent change from Entourage to Mail, but all the messages in Mailbox A originated in Mail and I've used them all summer. So this new Mailbox B that I set up on me.com rejects these Mail-created emails. But only some of them (more than 5% but less then 10%). Some of them are crucial.
So now I have two partial mailboxes on two different servers, which is unacceptable. And the rejects aren't sequential. I've scanned the to, from, subject, etc. lines to see if there's some pattern, but I don't see any. How can I fix the headers, or how can I get Mailbox B to accept the emails?
PS: I get rejects trying to move the mail to other servers, too--not just Mailbox B on me.com.
    Thanks!

Allowing editing is not an option for my app because one receives no information if the user actually did any editing and the resulting UIImage has a different size than the actual device screen (it's more square like the caller id pics used in the contact list).
That's unwanted if you need to edit the whole pic. One could take the original resolution pic from the editinginfo though but then one would have to "throw away" editings eventually done by the user. That's also irritating.

  • Server 10.3 IMAP malfunction

I had a power failure cause an unclean shutdown of our server. User's IMAP inboxes now appear empty. If we try to move a message into their inbox we get this error.
"The IMAP command “APPEND” (to INBOX) failed with server error: APPEND failed: Can't open append mailbox: Permission denied."
I have used mailbfr to repair the individual users and the entire db without a change in behavior. I have added a new user and the new user's inbox behaves the same way. Sent mail folders and any other folders can be accessed just fine. Incoming mail can be retrieved via POP protocol.
From Server Admin the Mail service logs for IMAP appear blank, but IMAP messages appear in /var/log/mail.log and if you choose the SMTP filter in Server Admin.
If the current configuration can't be repaired is there a way to reinstall the IMAP portion on the server?

    Hi kev.west-
No. It is not possible to install a lower version than the one that is shipped with the machine.
