IMAP email and the sent, drafts and trash folders

I am using Mail 2.1.3 and have set up my accounts to work through IMAP from the server into my account.
I can send and receive email absolutely fine, however it is not saving any sent emails and it won't save any emails to the draft folder. I have tested from the webmail on the server, the sent email goes into the sent folder on the web, and then I also see it in Mac Mail.
But if I send an email from Mail, it won't go into the sent folder.
Any ideas what I need to do to get this working properly? I have been on to the provider and they say it is something to do with my email settings but won't give me any more than that.
Please help.

Thanks Fred,
I had those checked already but it still wasn't working. In the end I found the below link to another post where I needed to put INBOX into the IMAP Path Prefix box in the Advanced section.
Once this had been done and I sent another message, the sent box from the IMAP account appeared in the Mail sent box and it's all working now.
You were right with the "Sent Messages" folder, this also appeared after I had done the above step.
Thanks again.
Simon

    Ok Thank you.
    I wont worry now.
Just maybe dig in deep and delete the deleted mails that are still around and that will hopefully clean it up a bit.
Many thanks for your help and advice.

  • Want to move all the sent, draft mails recieved on thunderbird to be sent to local folder automatically like global inbox

want to move all the sent, draft mails recieved on thunderbird to be sent to local folder automatically like global inbox . I tried to use filters, send filter addon but they didn't worked for me, even tried changing the account setting for "copies and folder" to set for moving sent mail or draft mail to sent to local folder but that also didn't work.
So is there a manual setting or an addon to work for it.

Marked answered due to no alternative. Not resolved due to an IMAP limitation in the way that some "IMAP supporting" offerings don't actually support IMAP according to spec.

  • Why can't I remove attachments from emails in the Sent items folder?

I Recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, and so far, there are at least a couple of things that puzzle me.
One is that now I don't have the option to "Remove Attachments" from emails in the sent items folder. It seems to work normally
in the Inbox and Drafts folders, but not in the Sent items. Go figure ???
Another thing that bothers me is that in Preview, when I save a screen shot, or a scan, etc., I no longer have the option of saving it as a GIF
(which, when better quality isn't absolutely necessary, is often much lower in KB or MB than a PNG or JPG, etc.. When I store lots of things as such images, I'd rather have that option.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have now created a smart mailbox as described above (good idea), and although I have some 50 messages in my Sent box, all with attachments (waiting to be removed so I can store the messages in the proper mailboxes), the smart mailbox is empty. So, Mail doesn't recognise these messages as containing attachments.
This led me to think that maybe Mail has been redesigned to work the way you would expect it to, at last; to contain a link to attachments instead of including them in all their bits and bytes. That would mean that the messages in my Sent box - with attachments - could be stored in local (or server-side) mailboxes without taking up extensive space.
But then I checked the size of my Sent Messages folder inside the Mail Folder in Finder, and - whoops - it's 50+ MB. So the sent messages do contain attachments all right. And Mail doesn't recognise these, since a) the smart mailbox trick says that the messages are free from attachments, and b) the Remove Attachments menu option is disabled.
I will have to wait for the next Mail update, and my Sent box will grow accordingly ...

Try a reset by pressing and holding the home and power buttons until the white Apple logo appears.
If the issue persists, delete the email account then add it back.

  • IMAP email and MobileMe no longer working on iPhone 4

Beginning this morning, I cannot get my IMAP mail accounts to be accessed by my iPhone 4 with iOS 4.0.1. It makes the connection to the server, but gets stuck in a loop trying to download messages from the server. It gives up, connects again, has the same problem, and the cycle goes on and on.
I have talked with my provider and they have changed nothing on their mail servers. And IMAP works fine in my Mac Mail (the latest update, 10.6.4 I think?).
My Exchange account connects just fine as it always did, and I can connect via POP3 (though I strongly prefer not to so I can properly sync my email across the different clients I access it with over the day).
Anyone else having a problem? This literally just started out of the blue today.

I've had this happen in the past due to a corrupted email or enclosure. You might want to try to log into your account from your desktop and delete mail from the server from the last few days, store locally on your desktop, and see if that clears it up though I get the impression you're talking about two different accounts so it's unlikely you would get the same email both places but that's usually been the issue for me.

  • Firefox can't seem to save sent emails in the "sent" box

Have sent two emails today - neither will get saved in the sent box and I get an error message saying:-
"There was an error saving the message to Drafts. Retry?"
But I wasn't trying to save the email to "drafts" - I don not know if the actual email has been sent.
Could this be related to the fact that today I changed my Virus Protection from BullGuard to Kaspersky? Can't find anything on K's control panel affecting emails!

I use Hotmail, or Live Mail as it is now called. Open to your e-mail and
log in. Look for your name at the top right. Press the '''Gear''' next to
your name, and select '''Options.''' On the right side under
'''Preventing junk email,''' select '''Filters and reporting.''' From the
    options, select;
'''Exclusive - Everything is sent to the junk email folder except'''
'''messages from your contacts and safe senders'''
Now and then, look at your Junk folder in case something turns up
that you want. You can always choose to add or remove e-addresses
    any time you want.

  • Hitting reply on emails in the sent folder...

When following up on emails or issues tat other have yet addressed I would normally always start form the last email in the conversation that I sent (since the other person had not addressed it or failed to address all). However when recently having moved
over to outlook this have an extremely odd behavior in my mind. All other email programs when hitting reply to an previously sent email would go to the person I sent it to BUT in outlook it addresses the email to myself! The even odder part is that this is
in complete contradiction to the behavior of clicking "reply all" on such an email, because then it will reply to all addresses EXEMPT my own! which is the behavior I am desiring, however, most times I might just want to address the one person I
sent the email to, and this results in me sending myself an email, since it doesn't even contemplate warning if I am really intending to send an email to myself from the same address as the recipient address.
Is this a bug between the inconsistent behavior of reply and reply all. Or an intended feature? I have never seen this behavior in any other email client or program used apart from outlook.
If a setting can be changed specifically for when hitting the "reply" button on sent emails that would be fine for a solution, although I have a very hard time imagining that it is intended that the "reply" vs "reply all" are
opposites to each other rather than partially overlapping groups.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    A

    Hi,
When you click the message in Outlook Sent Items, the "From" address is the email address of yourself. So when you click Reply, the "To" address is also the email address of yourself.
Agree with Lee. You can use Resend option to meet your requirement. Here is the steps for your reference.
    1. Double-click the message that you want to resend in Sent Items.
    2. On the Message tab, in the Move group, click Actions, and then click Resend This Message.
    Hope it helps.
If you need further assistance, please feel free to let me know.

  • I am not able to see the sent emails in the sent items folder. I am using Apple mail. Does anyone have any solutions?

I can't see the latest emails I sent in the sent items in Apple mail. Also, I am not able to see my old emails in the inbos folder. Can someone please help me out with this?

    Hello Vidish,
You may need to indicate to the Mail app which folder should be used for sent messages. This can be done by selecting your 'Sent' mailbox, and choosing (from the 'Mailbox' menu) Use This Mailbox For -> Sent.

  • Is there any way to move loads of mails from the "sent" file to trash, or does it have to be one by one ?

    Mail .
I want to delete multiple mails ( not simply a thread of mails , but a larger selection) from the "Sent " file , but it looks like you can only do it one at a time .....is that correct , or am I missing something ?

I Have had the same problem I have not figured out how to check multiples at once, I know once they are in the trash you can delete them all at once, that's the only thing that drives me crazy about the ipad, I use my surface 2 or laptop to delete a lot of mail at once, at one point my inbox went up to over 10000 emails Before I got my laptop.

  • Trash and Send .  I have a new IPAD 2 and I do not have any of my e mails in the send and trash folders.  I have had the IPAD about three weeks and have sent and deleted many e mails.  Do I have some wrong settings or configuration problem??

I purchased an IPAD 2 about three weeks ago.  When I go to my Trash and Send foloders it appears that none of my deleted or sent e mails are bing captured/stored in these folders.  do i have a configuration problem???

Once you connect to the Wifi Network once, then the iPhone or iPad remembers it and attempts to connect automatically in the future, but you have to tap to connect to that Wifi the first time. Like the first time you get on your home wifi, or the first time you go the a certain hotel, etc.
Now, one you navigate to Settings > Wifi and tap on the network you wish to connect to, if you are having issues there, use this article to help you: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398

  • How can I add a Mail folder with the "Inbox, Sent, and Trash" folders?  I have Windows 8.1

After I installed the 7.0.6 update, my iPhone crashed & had to do a restart.  I saved my Contacts.  I've been syncing my iPhone to store data on my PC instead of iCloud.  I'm assuming all of my pictures etc. are in the iPod Photo Cache, which I cannot open since they are THMB files.  How can I view all of my "lost" data without having to pay for the "Converter" program, which according to many of the people in my boat, say doesn't work & is a rip off?  I'm also trying to put an "Archive" folder back in my Mail folder.  I've tried to follow instructions but my iPhone 7.1 does not have the same options.  All of this is so frustrating.....load an upgrade & screws a lot of stuff up.  Just like "Trust this computer?" on 7.0.6 update.  Anyway, I hope someone can help with these minor problems.
    Thank you.

Not in Mail. If you referring to not having to use the menu, you can click the + sign at the bottom to create new mailboxes. But you still have to fill in the window with location and name. You can right click to create a new mailbox on an existing one, but not in the main account itself and you still have to fill in the info. It would create a sub folder.
You can also try it at the gmail website. There might be shortcuts there.

  • Email and trash empty but bubble shows unread mail

Have 4 email accounts. In "all inboxes", I clicked "edit", marked all items and clicked "trash". All emails removed (screen says No Mail), but the red bubble is still showing unread emails. I also cleared out the trash.

First off, how important are these files? If you absolutely need these files and you don't have a backup you will need a recovery program to ensure that you recover the files. If you try and recreate your mail account and keep using the computer you may erase the possibility of recovering these files. Normally when you delete the account the POP folder is deleted. If you have a backup I would recommend you getting the files there.
    You can try the following:
Your mail may still be there somewhere in /Users/USERNAME/Library/Mail/
Inside this folder there will be a Mailboxes folder and a POP-something folder if you use pop. There may also be a cancelled folder here.
You will need to recreate your mail account first. You will need the POP server and the SMTP server address if you use POP. After you have re-created your mailbox you can try to import your old mail from one of the folders mentioned. /Users/USERNAME/Library/Mail/cancelled is maybe where you will need to import from. USERNAME is your logon username.

  • Gmail IMAP Spam and Trash?

    Hello, all.
I access Gmail through IMAP using Apple Mail. According to this document:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77657&topic=12762
when I delete a message in \[Gmail]/Spam or \[Gmail]/Trash, Gmail is supposed to delete the message forever. Sadly, it doesn't; it simply marks the message as read.
Has anyone else experienced this? Am I just an idiot?
    Thanks in advance,
    Raj

I'd think most people would want to use offlineimap for that.
