IMAP error in Outlook 2010

Hi,
I have been having a persistent Outlook error connected to my Gmail IMAP account. A separate POP3 account in Outlook works fine, and the SMTP server portion (outgoing mail) works. But the incoming IMAP server does not sync and has not responded to any fixes,
updates, or investigation.
Does anybody have any idea what might be the problem? It appears to have originated on Friday night after a routine Microsoft update.
Thanks,
JP

Hi,
Here are several steps we can try on this issue.
Repair the Outlook Data File. If the Outlook Data File is corrupted, sometimes it may cause the sync issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227
Disable the firewall and anti-virus program, test if Outlook will sync properly again. If there's no issue when they are disabled, go to check if there are any settings may cause the sync issue.
You can also create a new profile to setup the account, test if the issue persists:

  • Yahoo IMAP Settings for Outlook 2010 on Windows 7

    Hi Guys,
I have been trying to get IMAP for Yahoo for Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 to work for a while now.  I was just wondering if someone out there has gotten it to work.
    Settings are Manually Configured.
    Settings:
    Account Type:  IMAP
    Incoming mail server:  imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Outgoing mail server:  smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    "Save My Password" Checkbox:  Checked
    Internet E-mail Settings #1:
    Incoming server (IMAP):  143
    Encryption Level:  none
    Outgoing server (SMTP):  465
    Encryption Level:  SSL
    Server Timeout:  1 minute
Result:  Continuous prompt for Username and Password when testing account settings until it fails to connect.  However SMTP test email is sent.
So the only issue seems to be incoming.
    Internet E-mail Settings #2:
    Incoming server (IMAP):  993
    Encryption Level:  SSL
    Outgoing server (IMAP):  465
    Encryption Level:  SSL
    Server Timeout:  1 minute
Result:  Error result is as follows "Log onto incoming mail server (IMAP):  a secure connection to the server cannot be established."  However SMTP test email is sent.  So the only issue seems to be incoming.
I tried IMAP with gmail on 2 computers with the same environment (1 x 64bit and 1 x 32bit Windows 7 w Outlook 2010) and it seems to be fine so I dont believe it is any router/firewall issues.  I have a Windows Mobile phone and it is working also.  Of course most of the settings on the phone are configured automatically.  If anyone could provide any suggestions, that would be great.  Thanks in advance.

    Hi
Thanks for sharing information.  I was using same setting for Incoming but Outgoing has different settings.
I use outlook 2010 with a paid account and these settings work perfectly.
My Outgoing mail setting (While getting issue)
     smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    SSL: True
    Port: 465
When i have above setting in my Outgoing mail i was getting error

    account [email protected]
            Protocol: IMAP
            Server  : 192.168.253.4
            Port      : 143
After changing from above setting to below mentioned setting i didn't get any issue while sending & receiving mail or changing folder.
    Outgoing
    smtp.mail.yahoo.com

    Port: 587
    Outgoing server requires authentication:Checked
So thank you for sharing connection information.

  • Sporadic errors from Outlook 2010: - "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."

One of my users is reporting the above error, often when she attempts to access the global address list (GAL).  If she tries again she can access the GAL and continue working.   She is, however, becoming frustrated with the frequency she is
    seeing the error pop up.
Client is running Windows 7 and Outlook 2010.
Server is Exchange 2010 SP3 running on Windows 2008 R2.
I am grateful for any answers.  Thank you!!
    ...Jim

    Hi,
Based on the description, some users got this error message while they tried to access the GAL. But if they tried again, they could access the GAL.
Do they run Outlook in cached mode?
If it is cached mode, please switch to online mode to check the result.
If online mode works well, this issue is related to OAB. I recommend you check the Autodiscover service by using "Test Email Autocnfiguration" in Outlook.

  • "changes to the public group membership cannot be saved" error from Outlook 2010 users, but no problem with Outlook 2003.

We have the exact same issue as this but our groups are already universal security group and we still have problem:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-NZ/exchangesvrmigration/thread/2c953cb4-5411-4f72-beb9-6b4c16fd6685
The distribution-groups were upgraded to Exchange 2010.  User A can update the group from Outlook 2003 or OWA 2010 but not from Outlook 2010.  Anyone know the solution?
    thanks

    Hi lilyl,
For this issue, please refer to this document:
How to Manage Groups that I already own in Exchange 2010?
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/11/18/3408844.aspx
So what does the "Changes to the distribution list membership cannot be saved. You do not have sufficient permission to perform
this operation on this object." error mean, when you are connecting to an Exchange 2010 server?
It means Exchange 2010 is doing its job - as designed...

  • ScheduleTracking_AddIn: Error installing Outlook 2010 add-in for time reporting in calendar

    Hi,
I am not sure that this is the correct forum for my question... it’s not obvious where to post.
I was looking for solutions for keeping track of calendar entries in Outlook 2010 and came across a
    sample add-in contributed here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh144973(v=office.14).aspx
The add-in has to be built using Visual Studio 2010 – which I do not have – and I was not able to load the project in Visual Studio 2010 Express.
The author of the code posted an update here
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/officedevdocs/archive/2011/07/20/starting-the-time-reporting-outlook-add-in.aspx where he provided an installation package for the add-in for users who do not have Visual Studio 2010.
The installation instructions warn to expect a dialog box displaying “Publisher cannot be verified. Are you sure you want to install this customization” and that installation can be made to proceed. I am getting the following message, instead:
Customized functionality in this application will not work because the certificate used to sign the deployment manifest for ScheduleTracking_AddIn or its location is not trusted.
Contact your administrator for further assistance.
Is there a system setting under Windows 7 to work around this? I can’t continue with installation.
    Thanks,
    Ross

    Hi Steve,
Your suggestions were very useful! Now that I understand the problem I was able to find the right information.
The following link proved most useful:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vsod/archive/2012/10/08/troubleshooting-common-vsto-issues-part-2.aspx
The solution proposed in Common Error 3 solved my problem.
I have one point for others who come across this same security issue. The full error message that I obtained was:
    Name: ScheduleTracking_AddIn
    From: file:///C:/Temp/Time_Reporting/ScheduleTracking_AddIn.vsto
    ************** Exception Text **************
System.Security.SecurityException: Customized functionality in this application will not work because the certificate used to sign the deployment manifest for ScheduleTracking_AddIn or its location is not trusted. Contact your administrator for further assistance.

The Zone of the assembly that failed was:
    MyComputer
The last line is misleading as it suggests that Inclusion List Security setting needs to be configured for the
MyComputer zone, since installation was from a local drive. However, doing so did not resolve the issue. I had to enable the
Internet zone to install the add-in.

  • 0x80040102 - Outlook 2010 - Sharepoint calendar error in Outlook 2010

Having read through all the articles there is no definitive answer for this problem.
Error: Task 'SharePoint' reported error (0x80040102) : 'Outlook cannot connect to the SharePoint List (<calendar-name>). The server may not be reachable from your location. Contact the SharePoint site administrator for more information.  HTTP

    SBS 2012 on server
Everyone running Outlook 2007 or below is absolutely fine. Both internally and externally.
I would be very grateful if someone could either:
    1) Provide a resolution to this error.  All articles i am reading, even ones assigned as solutions, provide no insight as to the root cause and a clear resolution.
    2) Admit to an issue within Outlook 2010 and advise on possibility of future solution.
I look forward to any insight on this.  Let's be careful out there ;-)
    Steve Welsh

    Hi,
According to your narration, first, please make sure this client can resolve the AAM name of the SharePoint server, in addition, make sure the user has enough permission on the list.
You can use fiddler and netmon together to trace this issue.

  • "This task could not be updated at this time" Error in Outlook 2010 on Workflow Form

    Hi,
I have setup a workflow to send task notifications to users and am getting an error when attempting to act on the InfoPath based workflow task form that appears in Outlook 2010 when clicking on the "Edit this task" button.  After clicking Approve, the
form disappears, but after a few seconds a dialog box appears that says:
"This task could not be updated at this time"
The funny thing is that the task actually does get updated, but there is often a delay in doing so.  Does this warning appear because the server has a backup of workflow items to deal with?  I saw that in 2007 it meant something wasn't properly
installed with InfoPath, but I am not sure if that is the case here or not.  Any guidance would be appreciated.
I am using Office 2010 and SharePoint Server 2010.

I have the same issue. If I had to guess it's because the workflow in question goes stale and has to recompile, thus it times out on the client even thou it gets submitted to the server so it eventually processes.
Now either they need a longer time out fix, or we need some way to keep the workflow actively in memory somehow on our end for it to not do it. Preferably the longer timeout method would be best to save on ram, but I bet in bigger environments or workflows
that get used often this won't be the issue.
You can pretty much reproduce this if you have 2 tasks from the same workflow, the first one will give the error. then after that if you wait a minute for the workflow to get going, then close your 2nd task, it will be instant. So it's something with the
way it's getting garbage collected and having to recompile that's causing this delay with the client and a timeout just needs extended or something to give the server a chance to finish loading up the workflow.
Also there is a good article explaining reasons and solutions:

    Hi
I set up an outlook.it account in Outlook 2010 SP1 64-bit to receive and to send E-Mail via POP3. Now, when I test this account, Outlook displays this SMTP error:

    Hi Balubeto,
This error occurring because your account has blocked and in such scenario, you should firstly contact to your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Also check and use the accurate

  • No Default Mail Client Error with Outlook 2010, Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server, and TAM

We are running a software package on a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server called TAM (The Agency Manager) along with Outlook 2010.  The application uses a MAPI connection to retrieve mail data from Outlook to be able to send and receive messages inside
the application.  On our individual PC's this works just fine, but on the Terminal Server users we get the message "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request.  Please run Microsoft Outlook
and set it as the default mail client."
I've tried the steps listed in KB 813745 which tells you to delete the registry keys and run a repair in Office, but that didn't resolve the issue.  I've searched on this issue, but haven't found anything useful.  Any suggestions would be much
    appreciated.

Try to set DEP and add outlook.exe. I had outlook 2007 same problem. With DEP enabled and outlook, word en excel also added to the list it worked again.
You can find it under this computer, properties, then change settings. Click advanced tab and then select the first "settings" option. The click the "Data Execution Prevention" (DEP) and select the last option and add the office programs
    there.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error opening Outlook 2010 Contact Group

    Hi all,
We are currently in transition between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010.
We have recently migrated a user over from 2003 to 2010, but one of his Contact Groups will now not open. The error displayed is "Cannot open this item. There is not enough memory available on Microsoft Exchange to perform the operation. Contact your system
    administrator"
The user would have created this distribution list in Exchange 2003 OWA.
I have read on other forums that the distribution group is too large and to reduce the number of contacts. I can see in Outlook that the offending Contact list is 32kb in size. However, when I try to export to a .csv file it hangs Outlook and complains about
    a lack of resources.
Is there any way that I can view this Contact Group's members (on the Exchange Server) or is the data lost / corrupt and the only solution would be to re-create the group?

    Hello,
The contact groups are store on the user’s mailbox on Exchange. Since other contact groups and contacts can be opened just fine, it seems the issue
may occur if the problematic contact groups is corrupted itself.
You can take a chance to open it via MFCMAPI tool. If it even cannot be open, I think it cannot be recovered unless we do a single mailbox recovery.
    MFCMAPI.exe

  • Outlook 2010 - IMAP and Roaming Profiles

    Hello,
If we setup a roaming profile user with an IMAP account in Outlook 2010 everything works on the machine the account was created on. If the user logs off and uses another machine they get the following message when trying to send an email:
"Task '*Email Address* - Sending' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'Outlook data file cannot be accessed.'
They are able to receive email without an issue.
I've seen other people report the same problem but with no fix reported. I wonder if anyone had made any progress on this.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I have come up with a temporary solution. I say temporary because it involves redirecting the pst files to a network share, which is not recommended by MS.  That said, our users have not had any issues with their personal/archive
pst files being on a network share as long as the PC they are working is local to the network share, i.e. in the same building on the same local network.
We have several users that share systems, some physical, some virtual, set up with roaming profiles.  We ran into the situation described above when one of the users needed to access a gmail account via Outlook 2010.  Along with roaming profiles,
the users are in a GPO which enforces folder redirection, so the server share was already set up..
    \\ServerName\GPO_Redirect\%username%
I added the Outlook2010 ADM (outlk14.adm) to the GPO, and enabled... "User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Microsoft Outlook 2010/Miscellaneous/PST Settings/Default location for PST files" ...and set the value to \\ServerName\GPO_Redirect\%username%\OutlookPSTRedirect
I had to remove the existing IMAP account from Outlook and readd it. Doing so created the "OutlookPSTRedirect" folder automatically under the user's network share and the [email protected] file was created there. Everything seems to be working fine
after multiple logoffs and logons to different systems. No (2), (3), (4), etc. file versions are being created, messages do not get stuck in the outbox, folder view settings are remembered, etc., etc.
Apparently you can also set the "ForcePSTPath" registry value manually, but I have not tested that.

  • BUG - Outlook 2010 'send as' permissions - Workaround within

issue : when a user attempts to 'send as' another mailbox, the email fails with Undeliverable message:
"You can't send a message on behalf of this user unless you have permission to do so. Please make sure you're sending on behalf of the correct sender, or request the necessary
permission. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk ".
This error only occurs once the email address has been cached (ie: 2nd attempt to 'send as' a user). Permissions are correct as 'send as' worked fine when using outlook 2007. upgrading
a client to outlook 2010 results in the above error.
scope : outlook 2010 clients with exchange 2007/2010 (appears to be client related, not exchange server). windows updates as of 22-dec-2010 have not resolved this.
workaround : Cached Exchange Mode is ENABLED. Disabling this and restarting outlook resolves this issue. (Outlook 2010 > File > Account settings > Account settings... > double click the default account on the 'EMAIL' tab > untick
    'used cached exchange mode'.)
i hope this helps other people; i've been googling for a resolution to this issue since beta/RC. now i've got office 2010 RTM the issue was still present. no forums/blogs could
    shed light on this issue.
Is this the correct way to report bugs, or is there another way? i've tried connect.microsoft.com, but theres no "accepting bugs" for the outlook/office suite.

Nothing particularly useful in that thread either:

    1) looks like you have an issue with the DC plesae check it
    2) restart the information store and system attendant to speed it.
    3) send as is managed using send as permissions in the EMC

    Hi Exchisa,
Many, many apologies, as I mis-read your query and missed the vital bit of info (serves me right for reading it on my mobile...)
I'm afraid you are a bit stuck. Members of the protected groups are automatically reset to the approved permissions at regular intervals as a security measure.
I'm afraid you are not going to be able to use the 'send as' facility on any member of such a group.
Either move the user to another group or change the e-mail address to suit your needs.
    EG:
Lets say you want to 'send as' administrator:-
    a) change the administrator's email from {[email protected]}to {[email protected]} and disable automatic recipient policy updates for the user.
    b) Create a distribution group for {[email protected]}and set administrator as a member so they receive messages as they would have before.
    c) set the send as permissions on the distribution group {[email protected]}to allow users to send as, including the administrator user.
This is technically a workaround, not a solution.

    Dear All .
I still stuck to have this feature working perfectly .
Now I don't want to use this feature to enable users to send as by each other , i only want the users on any given group to send by the name of this group , i did not configure any thing in the ADUC snap in , i only configure this feature from the EMC .
i recieve this error from outlook 2010 :
You can't send a message on behalf of this user unless you have permission to do so. Please make sure you're sending on behalf of the correct sender, or request the necessary permission. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk.
I surprised that this feature are working sometimes and sometimes not (this is the truth).
does this feature need a CAL like archiving ??
    Wait a reply
    by: totallytontoPosted on 2010-06-21 at 08:39:56ID: 33037354
No you do not need a CAL for this.
Is the mailbox that you are sending as still a member of a protected group in AD?
If yes, send as permissions will be reset at random intervals and cannot be changed as long as the user is a member of the protected group.
