  • Finding Public Folders in Mail App through Exchange

I am using Outlook on the Windows side and all my Public Folders are there.  Where can I find them in the Mail App in OSX Lion?  I noticed that there are two choices to make a new account in the app.  One is Exchange, and the other is Exchange IMAP.  I chose the Exchange, and I'm guessing that has something to do with it.  Its just that if I chose IMAP, all my junk filtering goes away that I set up in Outlook.

Its not there. I have not found a way ever to get public folders in Mail App. I wish there was, but i cannot find any solution.
I have been looking for about a year on this, but no luck

How do you create folders in mail app? Is there a way in 3GS IOS 5?

This is very disappointing, and i find it hard to believe that Apple would do this intentionally. It worked on previous versions of email application. Apple please don't dishonor the image of Steve Jobs this way. Fix this right away. I can't think of anything more basic than being able to organize the email that you download into folders. This absolutely ***** ... What a stinker.....
I can't think of anything more idiotic than invoking the memory of Jobs here. Are you truly unaware that the iPad and iOS is pretty much exactly the way he wanted it to be, just like about everything else Apple?
As to your claim of "previous email applications", certainly none in iOS ever did that, and the only folders you can create and manipulate in POP accounts are those local to only that single machine or platform, not particularly helpful or desirable in today's environments.

  • Preserving web mail folders in Mail app

I'm transitioning from using Yahoo! webmail to the Mac Mail app. I've got everything set up and am seeing all my incoming email and messages that were still in the inbox show up in the Mail app. What I am not seeing, though, are any of the messages contained within the folders I created in yahoo! mail to organize my email OR anything from the Yahoo mail sent folder.
I suppose I could move all the messages from each of the Yahoo folders back to the webmail inbox so they get pulled into the Mail app and then recreate those in Mail but that seems awfully time consuming and inelegant. Is there a better way to do this?

No. Maybe Yahoo provides a way to export your mail in a format that Mail would be able to import, but there is no way for a POP mail client to see messages on the server in mailboxes other than Inbox. You’d need an IMAP account to do that.

  • Folders in Mail.app

For the life of me I can't figure out how to make folders work the way I want in Mail.app.
The hierachy of folders is as follows when imported from my Exchange account:
    Inbox
         Exchange Email
              Sub-Folder
              Sub-Folder
              Sub-Folder
These are when I do the initial import from my Exchange account.  The issue is when I want to add a new folder, mail.app puts the folder all the way down on the left side, with no way of moving the folder back up under the hiearchy like the other folders.
    For instance
    Inbox
         Exchange Email
              Sub-Folder
              Sub-Folder
              Sub-Folder
    VIPS
    Flagged
    Drafts
    Sent
    Exchange Email
         Deleted Items
         Newsfeed
         RSS Feeds
New Created Sub-Folder <------------      Do Not Want It There!!!!!
Any ideas?  Did this make any sense?

I know. Everyone keeps saying that and says they can't believe I'm still using POP.
However: Does that not mean that all my mails would sit on the server, even the very old ones I've read? Usually I keep at least 5 years worth of emails (and even after that I archive them), resulting in a very large mail DB. Would my email provider not have a limit on storage of files? And once I delete some mails on the server, would they then not also disappear from my local client?
PLUS: Can I still read my old mails locally when I'm somewhere w/o internet access?
iMap seems a bit like having my post office keep all my personal mail and only send me copies of them. Seems a strange way to go to me. (for business it actually seems a bit dangerous--what about audit trails, etc. and the fact that it would be so easy to get access to all thge old mails on the server?)

  • Email Folders & iOS Mail App

As I have quite a few cntacts on my email account I have folders set to recieve e emails from specific coontacts. I noticed that folders don't appear and junk mail doesn't get sorted for my hotmail. But I was wondering do other supported email providers show custom folders users may have on their account? I attached a screenshot (pixelated a few things) to show my folders (that you see under my Inbox. I am wondering If any email providers supported by mail can show custom folders like mine (scouts, sent 2 myself, online news and so on are custom folders I have). DO any email accounts from suppor providers show custom folders like mine in the screenshot in the iOS mail app?

Is your Yahoo account a POP email account? If so there is no way to sync the folders to your iPhone. Only IMAP accounts sync folder. The best you could do is log in through Safari.

  • Gmail labels and hierarchical folders in Mail app

I may have missed discussion on this, so please point me to the thread where this is mentioned. Something I just noticed is that labels I create in Gmail (from the Web interface) that have slashes in their names are interpreted in the iPhone/iPod 3.0 Mail app as parent and child (hierarchical), giving me actual sub-folders! I have a label in Gmail named "Money/Bank", and in the label listing for my Gmail account in the Mail app on my iPod touch, it shows "Money" as a grayed-out item, and "Bank" as an indented sub-folder with a slightly smaller folder icon. Can't touch the gray item, but I can touch and load up all the mail archived in the sub-folder. A very nice way to organize archived Gmail mail on my iPod! Of course, I now fully expect someone to reply with "Jeez...where have YOU been?!" Or is this something brand new?

If you name email folders like that in many programs, it will create two folders (or more)
It assumes it's a path, just like an operating system does when typing a path.
If you don't want that, you can name it:
    Misc-Apple or the like.
Misc/Apple creates two folders, in succession.

  • Using folders in Mail app on iPhone - Synching iPhone and Mac Mail app

I have a hotmail account and my iMac is set up to recieve that mail to the Mail app. In the Mail app I have organized all the emails I have recieved into different folders but I would like those same folders to show up on my iPhone so that when an email comes in I can drag it to the appropriate folder and it will be in that folder on my iPhone as well as on my iMac. Also if I delete a email on my iPhone I would like it to delete in my Mail app on my iMac.
Is this possible? if so, how do I do it?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

New emails should automatically get pushed onto your device; however if you have read your emails on a different computer or device it will still show as unread on your iphone.
follow the following steps make sure that they are right:
    Settings
    Mail Contacts Calendar
    Fetch new Data
    Ensure that “Push” is on
Ensure that “Every 15 Minutes” is selected
    Go down to advanced
Select the accounts outstanding and change them to “Push”

  • How to limit max IMAP connections in mail.app?

    Hi folks,
due to Mailserver configuration limitations from Provider side like courier-imap settings "maxperip" = 4, some (like me) may have problems to use or connect more than one imap-account to the same server in mail.app.
In thunderbird you have the option to configure the max open connections per imap-account. If set to 1 connection, i'm able to use 4 imap-accounts.
But how to configure this in mail.app???
    Thanks in advance,
    paranoja

oh, as i found this seems to be an unfixed an verry old problem.

It's really a shame that apple didn't fixed it since the problem is from 2007!!!
It seems that there was a key "CacheOveraggressively" in com.apple.mail.plist in earlier versions, but i can't find it there with Version 3.5 (930.3)!
Seems that the only real solution for now is to use thunderbird......
P.S.: Mail in IPodTouch has of course the same Problem!

  • From and subject field are blank using imap account in mail.app

Recently I changed my account from pop3 to imap.
If I retrieve mail with mail.app first normally I get proper headers displayed in the message list window.
If I READ the email on my iPhone 4 let alone respond to it, etc. and then go back to my mail.app all emails I chose to read, reply to, etc. have blank from, to, and subject lines in the message list window. They appear ok in the message window but not the message list window.
Some people have same issues, but I haven't found any respons to get this fixed!!
I hope someone can help me solving this problem.
    Best wishes.
    Simon

In the Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced what have you selected with regard to Keep copies of messages and their attachments for Offline Viewing?
Also, does your provider's IMAP server support use of the IDLE Command?  If getting push email on the iPhone, considered deselecting this if currently selected -- it can cause problems with servers not fully supporting it.
I think it may be useful to purge the Envelope Index file from the Mail folder.  Force a reindexing by deleting the Envelope Index. With IMAP or Exchange account, forcing reindexing requires removing the account folder. See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/4.0/en/14019.html
Ask any questions needed to get comfortable with doing this.

  • Messages disappeared when trying to back up IMAP acct in Mail.app!

    Hi,
My IMAP account at my alma mater is being deactivated tomorrow, and I'm trying to download the messages to local mailboxes on my Mac (I'm using Mail.app). I tried to copy my sent mailbox by dragging and dropping it onto another mailbox, but most of the messages were not transferred and they're gone from the original mailbox. My school's tech support warned me this could happen if I tried to transfer more than 500 messages at once, but it was 488 messages.
It looks like I'm out of luck, except that before trying to transfer the mailbox, I selected the whole mailbox and copied with Apple A and C. The mailbox is still in my clipboard b/c I can copy it into TextEdit, but when I type Apple V when I've selected a mailbox in Mail.app, nothing happens. I still have all 7 MB of the contents of the mailbox in the Clipboard. Is there any way I can get it into Apple Mail?
Can anybody help me? I'm also concerned about how I'm going to download all my other messages by tomorrow
    thanks!

    Hi beethovengirl.
Not sure what to do about the current situation. A better way to do what you wanted probably would have been to select the messages and do Message > Copy To.
This reply probably arrives too late, but what are your Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Keep copies of messages for offline viewing settings for this account?

  • Using only IMAP account with Mail app

    Hello,
I am attempting to get the Windows 8.1 Mail App to allow me to configure only an IMAP email account as the primary account. I have enabled the Group Policy setting to allow to App to run without a Microsoft Account but when I open the mail account and try
to log in, it doesn't ask for incoming/outgoing servers, just one, and it will not accept either the IMAP or SMTP server that my organization runs. I am able to add the IMAP account if I first log in with a Microsoft account but since we already have domain
accounts, I do not want to have to set each user up with a Microsoft account. Is there a way to just configure an IMAP account for the Mail App or does is have to be Exchange or Microsoft?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I made a test in our testing enviroment, please just add a mail account you have, when added successfully, you can choose to add a new mail account, it contains the settings for IMAP you can choose.

  • IMAP + Gmail: will mail.app search function work for 100% of messages?

This feels like a dumb question, but haven't found any discussion of this issue on the forum.
I'm considering switching some accounts including Gmail to IMAP. I'm accustomed to having all mail stored locally on mail.app - and frequently search that whole universe (we use mail as an info archive).
The dumb question is what happens to an account that is switched from POP to IMAP? Specifically, when there is no internet connection (often for us, sailing around the world on our yacht).
    Thanks in advance!

Clarification: I forgot to say that I have configured my Gmail IMAP test account in Advanced to "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing".
But it isn't clear whether this applies to every msg on the server, or just to new mail sent/received since the IMAP connection was established.
I am afraid to convert one of our big primary addresses to IMAP until I'm sure that it will work as we require. Again, it isn't clear what happens to say a Gmail account when you switch it from POP to IMAP then back to POP again. What happened to the local copies of the traffic during the IMAP period.
Lastly, can an IMAP account be accessed via POP without messing anything up?

  • IMAP subfolders in Mail.app

I am new to Mac, a recent switcher, so please forgive if this is a FAQ.
I have one IMAP account, with a subfolder in the inbox. I see all my inbox contents when I click at the inbox symbol in Mail.app, but I do not see the subfolder at all.
If I set up another account (or the same one under a different cover), I see two smaller inbox icons under the larger top one, each of which shows the subfolder.
How can I make that subfolder visible with just one account set up, either under the top level inbox symbol or force Mail.app to show the smaller inbox symbol (plus folder) underneath.
    Thanks
    - Tom

It seems to me like it's a bug in mail.app - it only shows the subfolders if there is more than one.
My workaround is to create an extra subfolder in the inbox. It then shows both subfolders.
This is on OS 10.5.8 - I don't know if they fixed this in any updates (maybe in 10.6 they've fixed it)

  • Sent and draft mail folders on Mail app disappeared

After I set my iPad 2 to display 1,000 emails, I went to press 'Load more messages' in the Mail app. After loading, my sent and draft mail folders were wiped out without a trace. Does anyone know how to rectify this issue? I have very important information in those folders.

I can't say for sure that this will work either, but when I run into issues like this, I just start toggling the settings - maybe set to show 500 messages then go back to mail and see if the download more messages comes back. Maybe turn the accounts off and then on again. I
could not get my email to load at all today - 4 different email accounts and all 4 seemed to shut down at once. I just kept turning mail off and on and restarted the device a couple of times and then it worked - all 4 accounts started loading mail again.
Sometimes, just restarting the iPad or resetting it can make things come back as well. Have you tried restarting or resetting? By resetting I mean hold the sleep and home buttons down until the Apple logo appears.
