IMAP issues

Ok the mail server works fine for both internal users (smtp and pop are 192.168.x.xxx)
External users work fine pop and smtp (mail.timeact.co.uk)
Now trying to switch over to IMAP as users hot desk and remote.
When I put mail.timeact.co.uk as the servers for IMAP our internal users on the same network as the mail server cant send and receive email.
I want them setup on mail.timeact.co.uk as when the travel or work from home they don't have to change any settings.
What have I done wrong or need to setup?

No Offense taken, I'm fairly new to all this (also have no Terminal knowledge where do i go to learn that?)

2. Log entries showing the refused/not working connections (/var/log/mail.log and /var/log/mailaccess.log)
There doesn't appear to be any log for this activity entourage simply times out saying the server could be busy or down and the connection failed.
This is when im using mail.timeact.co.uk internally instead of the mail servers IP address.
3. In WGM is POP and IMAP active?
YES
4. Are you using SquirrelMail? If yes is the authentication method correct?
No Clients are Entourage and Mail.

  • Iphone 5 / iOS 6 IMAP issues

This is a strange one, however I see many people are reporting similar issues.
I just received my iPhone 5 last night and I'm unable to access my primary email accounts on the device via IMAP. After entering and deleting my email account multiple, tried with SSL (how I normally do it) and without SSL, etc... it continues to tell me that I'm entering the wrong username and password. (which I'm possitive is correct as I'm able to log in via webmail with no issues.)
My email accounts are run through a cpanel server, I've alternated between courier and dovecot on the server, no change. Mail logs on the server are showing that I'm getting to the server, my AT&T IP, etc... and that the password is being rejected. I'm wondering if it's doing something which the characters of the password when it trys to pass it to the server.
One addtional note, my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 both updated to iOS 6 on Sept 19th with no problems, IMAP is working normally on those devices. The issue is on my iPhone 5 only.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Joe

I had the same problem today with my iPhone5 and the upgrade to IOS 6.1 over my wireless network.  The phone clearly saw the network, just wouldn't accept my password (which I verified in my keychain on my laptop).  I reset the network on the phone per other posts, turned Airplane mode on and off, restored my phone.  Still no luck.  Then I went into my home office and held the phone right next to my airport extreme, and it finally took my password.  Now its connected, with same strong signal it always had throughout my house.  No idea why that worked but not arguing!  Hope that helps.

  • Multiple IMAP issues in Outlook 2013

I know a lot of work has gone on with IMAP changes behind the scenes to make everything more responsive but some of these changes have adversely affected usability.
Here are my 3 main gripes:
    1. If you have Outlook in Folder View so that you can see the "Sync Issues" folder you will see that Outlook 2013 now logs all activity to this folder and one ends up with thousands of entries per day filling this folder. I don't want these. Can I reduce
    logging?
    2. If you delete, edit or create IMAP folders to your account outside of Outlook you really have to fight to get Outlook to see the changes. Sometimes you have to remove the IMAP account completely and add it again just to get a proper view of the changes.
This is definitely something to do with the new caching regime. As an example Outlook does not seem to want to let go of folders deleted outside of Outlook (orphaned folders) and insists they still exist. For instance I can still move messages into these orphans
and Outlook accepts them and agrees they are there even though the folder no longer exists on the server. This is an accident waiting to happen.
    3. This is a bug. If I delete a group of unread messages, usually, all except the top one show as deleted and ready to purge (grey with a line through). The top one remains not deleted and unread. As soon as I mark it as read it will then show as deleted
and ready to purge (grey with a line through).

I tested it just now. The registry data I mentioned is really aimed at either decreasing synch logging or to stop specific types of conflicts.
So I can confirm that we cannot turn off this folder base on current product design. This folder is designed for getting the basic troubleshooting information of Client Access issue.
Anyway, I am thinking two way for workaround:
    1. Hide the sync issue folder via MFCMAPI, visit the following link to do that.
    http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/hidemovedeletemfcmapi.htm#hide
    2. Create a Outlook rule to remove the items which is belongs to sync issue folder.
If someone has a better idea, please share it here. Thanks.
    Cheers,
    Tony Chen

  • IMAP issue with one gmail account

O2 have been useless. I cannot add a certain gmail address to my Blackberry Curve 9360.
As soon as I connect one specific gmail address with the BB I immediately get an "action required" email telling me to turn on IMAP within gmail. It is enabled. I have been able to add another gmail address all with the exact details and settings other than the username and password.
O2 have come to the conclusion that this is Google's issue and has nothing to do with them. It's taken them 10 weeks, a replacement SIM card and a replacement Curve to come to this conclusion. What do I do?! O2 won't even swap the phone to another make/model as in their eyes the phone is working .
    Any suggestions?

Can you see if the account is still lingering on http://www.o2email.co.uk/ ?
See if you can add the account from there.  It will then push to your phone.
    If this doesn't work, then
From the device, go to mobile.blackberry.com

  • UW-Imap issue with cram-md5

University Of Washington IMAP Server CRAM-MD5 Remote Authent...
    BugTraq ID: 12391
    Remote: Yes
    Date Published: Jan 28 2005
    Relevant URL: http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/12391
    Summary:
A remote authentication bypass vulnerability affects the CRAM-MD5 authentication
functionality of the University of Washington IMAP server.  This issue is due to a
logic error that fails to properly validate authentication attempts.
It should be noted that this issue only affects servers with CRAM-MD5 authentication
enabled, which is not the case by default.
A remote attacker may leverage this issue to authenticate to the affected server as
    any user.
    SecurityFocus Linux Newsletter #221

    Tanx for the feedback.
    1) I had the same thoughts but hoped to get some more tips and inside information to where to start. So if you have them, please tell me, as it might save me some search/trial and error ?
I mean: I suppose, just like the digest-md5 support, this class is registered somewhere ? any idea where ?. How does it perform the digest-md5 authentication when this is encountered en requested by the server ?.... So basically the process flow... I don't think the coding is so difficult. I already looked in some coding of a sourceforge project called FreeMail that supports cram-md5 authentication. But I like to stick to sun javamail...
    2) I will have a look at this sasl, as I saw it comming by when using imap to fetch email...
Hmmm... just came to think about it... I also need CRAM-MD5 for my imap connection with the client.... almost forgot that :(... is that supported ?
What do you think is the "easiest" way to go ?: 1) or 2).. and where to find examples ?

  • EAC and IMAP Issues after Exchange 2013 CU6

After deploying CU6 to Exchange servers there is no way to perform activities on Exchange Online (cosidering hybrid deployment). I noticed that there is a fix for it in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2997355 but
it seems that it doesn’t do the trick. After installing CU6 file which is altered in the script cannot be found (RemoteDomains.xaml).
Also after installing CU6 I've noticed issue with IMAP and Thunderbird. It seems that commands like move are interpreted by the server as bad commands (error 12).
Did you encounter with any of those problems? Do you have/recommend any workaround or fix?

No, Exchange is in default direcotry. I've even tried v2 of script which gets Exchange path from registry.
This file does not exist (I've looked on both CAS na MDBs)

I've reset all the perfom counters, as that's fixed issues like this in the past. But it didn't work this time.
    Any thoughts?

I found this via web search. While the subject of the error for this person was POP, I used what he did for IMAP4 and it fixed my issue too. Like him, I'd like to understand the WHY, but I'm just happy its working for me again.
    Eric
The issue was that the “State” of the PopProxy component was set to Inactive:

A quick call to Set-ServerComponentState to mark this component Active fixed the issue:
Set-ServerComponentState -Identity SRVDENEX01 -Component PopProxy -Requester HealthAPI -State Active
After doing this POP started responding as expected, using any valid hostname or IP address.
Like the user who posted to TechNet, I would also like to know why the health check failed and marked the PopProxy as inactive.
I will research this further and if I find anything I will update this post.

  • Leopard IMAP issue

    Dear All,
I am having a host of issues using IMAP and authenticating with my outgoing server. I've worked with my IT staff at our college but here's the issue:
On Leopard, does not work. I cannot authenticate to the outgoing server (as mentioned above). Yet, with Tiger (10.4.10), I can authenticate to my heart's desire, and send outgoing messages. This really is sad! A HUGE bug that should have been seen. Is anyone else having the same issues with Leopard Mail system?
At this point, I think I'm going to have to downgrade as e-mail is my other right hand. Does anyone know any workaround either?
Apple are are you listening? Leopard, to me, seems half-baked and rushed to market. Personally, I would have been happy to wait until January to have 10.5 fully functioning without issue.

    Spfld, IL

There are some other threads with people having similar issues. Have you tried with and or without SSL? Also, check the port for outgoing SMTP. I am using 25 but in the past I have used other ports. 587 comes to mind. Also try various authentication methods. I am using password, but other servers require different settings. Lastly, set up a free gmail or yahoo account and attempt to send through it. If this works it might offer some insight as to why the college server will not.

  • Lion Mac Mail Yahoo IMAP issues

Each time I lauch Mac Mail on my Mac (running OS X 10.7.4), it downloads my entire inbox (thousands of messages) from the Yahoo IMAP mail server. Also, when sending emails, Mac Mail does not always create a copy on the Yahoo mail server. Sometime the copy is there and sometime it isn't.
    Anyone else having this issue?

This is definitely not Yahoo-specific, nor is it new.  Definitely seems to be a bug in Mail.app.  This has been happening at least since 10.5 (am now on 10.8.2), and I have a GoDaddy hosted IMAP account.
Same symptoms...I delete emails on my Mac in Mail.app.  I've gotten into the habit of forcing a manual sync.  The emails disappear from the Mac, but several minutes or sometimes many minutes later, if I look on my iPhone or iPad, the messages have not been deleted.  If I subsequently go look on my Mac, or at the server through a webmail browser - they're back.
However, if I delete the emails from my iPhone or iPad - they really do get deleted.
As stated up above - quitting and reopening Mail.app can force a real sync that gets things going back in sync...it seems like maybe Mail.app somehow forgets to actually sync...so when this starts happening - i.e. I notice deleted emails still appear on my iPad - if I quit mail and reopen it, it also shows the previously deleted email.  So the symptoms seem like there is a "cache" of actions (deletes) in Mail.app that is not getting processed to the server.  When you quit, this list seems to get flushed and whatever is causing Mail.app not to sync to the server gets remedied and on restart, the not-deleted emails show up because Mail.app now syncs with the server.  Occasionally it seems Mail.app somehow can come out of this without being restarted...I'm not sure if that happens when it's "kicked" by some other event, e.g. an incoming message, to sync.
    Extremely annoying.

  • IMAP Issue connecting Archiver to Post Office

I am running a GroupWise 8 sp2 hp2 system. I am trying to connect our new Barracuda Message archiver to all of my 30 post offices. Most run on Windows 2003 servers, but I have to that run on Linux. One is SLES 10 sp4, the other is SLES 11 sp 1. The one on 11 connects to the message archiver correct, as well as all 28 windows server post offices. The one that I have on the sles 10 box doesn't . This box also runs my primary domain, and gwia and webaccess on it. The msg archiver uses imap an soap to connect to the poa. All are turned on the poa. IMAP is not running on the gwia located on the box, so it shouldn't be a conflict. When I try to connect to the poa from the message archiver I see the following message in the poa log:
10:16:41 016 New IMAP session initiated from ::ffff:10.2.1.124
    10:16:41 016 Return from IMAP [890F]
10.2.1.124 is the address of the message archiver. Any ideas on what could be causing this issue?

This is what I see with the poa being in diagnostic mode:

  • IMAP issue on IOS7

When moving/managing mail on any one of my devices, the changes are not reflected on my other devices.  e.g. move mail from my inbox to another folder.
The devices all point at the same IMAP account.  The current functionality I am seeing defeats the purpose of IMAP given the devices are behaving as if they are on POP.
    The devices are;
    Iphone 5S
    Ipad 3
Windows 8 PC, using outlook 365
Pre-IOS7 this worked and behaved as you would expect when using IMAP.   There have been no configuration changes to mail or mail setup on the IPhone, Ipad or Windows PC.   There have been no changes/upgrades to the IMAP server from when it was working on IOS6 to when it has now stopped working after the IO7 update.
Any ideas?   Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Just in case your settings got mangled somehow in the upgrade, have you tried deleting and re-adding the mail account on your iPhone and your iPad?
Also, if your IMAP mail service provider offers webmail access, does the webmail portal show the same content as the Windows box, one of the iDevices, or neither?
FWIW, I am not seeing this problem on my iPhone 5 or my iPad 3. I hope this suggestion helps you regain functionality on your devices.

  • POP/IMAP issue Exchange 2013

    Hi,
I have started the migration of Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. Exchange 2010 is single server with all roles and Exchange 2013 with 1 CAS and 1 Mailbox. Initially plan was to verify the Windows XP users can connect with Exchange 2013 but there was a lot
of issues and stop XP machines migration. Windows 7 machines are working perfectly without any issue.
Now decided to configure POP/IMAP on XP machines. The test of incoming POP/IMAP is fine and receiving emails from internal to external domains but the SMTP is giving error
Send test e-mail: Your server does not support the connection encryption type specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact the administrator of the mail server or Internet service provider for further assistance.
Can some guide what I am missing during the configuration.
    Thanks

  • IMAP issues in Lion Mail.app?

Hello...I've been dealing with a snarky email issue with Lion Mail.app for several months. The issue is that Lion Mail does not have the same email counts as the corresponding web mail server for that account shows, either grand total, or folder by folder.
Snow Leopard Mail, and Tiger Mail DO agree with the web server, and Thunderbird 8.0 installed in Lion does agree exactly with web mail.
Based on these observations, a lot of testing, and several deleting of email accounts and re-setting them up again, my feeling is that there is something wrong with Lion Mail.app's ability to handle IMAP
I certainly do like the Mail.app and it's my first choice, but I need to see an accurate view of my mail. Lion's Mail simply isn't giving it to me.
Any thoughts from those who've had an experience like this with Lion Mail.app? If you've had this problem and fixed it, how DID you fix it?
    Thank you,
    ray

  • GoDaddy IMAP issue with "Sent Items"

There's some long standing issues with GoDaddy IMAP and Apple Mail.  GoDaddy is using Courier-IMAP 3.1.0.5.  The worst of the issues seems to be the fact that if you store your Sent Items on the Server, your log gets spammed with these two message (I'm removed the call stack) over and over and it also seems to degrade performance while Mail tries to traverse the folder hierarchy even though on the surface everything seems to be working.  Mail is spending an inordinate amount of time trying to create this "Sent_Items" mailbox and then failing... over and over...
    Aug 11 09:32:04 seven Mail[9613]: *** Assertion failure in -[IMAPAccount _IMAPMailboxForMailboxUid:name:createIfNeeded:], /SourceCache/Message/Message-1244.3/Accounts.subproj/IMAPAccount.m:1336

              Didn't create IMAPMailbox for (null)
Seems to me the reason this is happening has something to do with the fact that the "Sent Items" system folder is internally referenced as "Sent_Items" and they are being treated as synonyms for each other on the IMAP side while Apple Mail is seeing them as 2 different folders and failing when it thinks it needs to create the Sent_Items folder on the server.
I'm willing to accept that I could be completely wrong about this, or I could be right, but neither GoDaddy or Apple side seems interested in looking into it and it's very frustrating.  Here's why I think it might have something to do with it:
    [ben@seven][~]$ telnet imap.secureserver.net 143

If you login to the GoDaddy webmail system and bring up the properties of the "Sent Items" folder, it's referenced as "INBOX.Sent_Items" and it's the only folder whose internal name doesn't match the name given in the LIST command.
I really wish that someone from Apple or someone from GoDaddy would take a look at this seemingly simple thing to fix and just make it work.  It appears to not be an issue for other IMAP clients, or on the iOS devices, though I suppose that my iPhone could be logging all this same stuff internally.
Hopefully GoDaddyGuy will come to the rescue once again and get this resolved.  If anyone has been able to actually store their Sent Items in the Sent Items system folder and not get this message over and over, let me know.  This has nothing to do with the IDLE command or "Use this mailbox for..." or IMAP prefix (which if you run the NAMESPACE command isn't defined) or any other suggestions that have been given previously. I've already exhausted all the different combinations.

  • N97 v21 IMAP Issues

First of all - anyone who is going to tell me to use the "Nokia Messaging" stop reading now - that program goes through Nokia servers and generally sucks all round.
I use the Email Component of the Default Messaging built into the phone, I've been struggling to figure out what happened to it since v20, but have only recently bothered to try and figure out what the issue was.
    - I noticed my mail on my N97 would stop on a certain date (email date) and no longer retrieve messages past that certain date.
    - That lead me to figure out that there was a bad message that was causing the mail app to basically disconnect from the server and not retrieve mail.  When i say bad message - I mean one that the N97 cannot understand, all other mail clients work fine.
    - I found this to be a particular mail, once deleted the IMAP client on the phone work fine again.
    - I monitored the situation, and found that every few days an offending mail would come in - and deleting the mail in Outlook was always the solution.
    - The POP3 client on the phone does not have this issue and processes all messages, POP is not going to work for me as I work out of one IMAP box - and that wont change to accommodate my **bleep** phone.
So in short, if i am out of the house and one of these mails comes in my mail on my phone stops working which sucks.  I have looked at the headers of these offending mails and the content body and I cannot see anything that would lead me see why the N97 has an issue with them.
Also the phone when hooked up to the computer is a sure way to have the 'message store' revert back to C: from mass storage which is SUPER ANNOYING.  I would rather just get an error message than having the change back 10x per day - and seeing my home screen widget display "set-up email" - i've done that a million times.
So in short mail for me is unusable much like everything else on this **bleep** called the N97.
I would like to see Nokia fix this issue - i believe it  may have only appeared in v20 although i cannot be sure of that - could also be i just never noticed this.  I think the scheduled email retrieval is broken too - I know this was working perfectly before.
It would be really nice to see Nokia fix this and add HTML support as well why they are at it - although I am not holding my breath, it is likely easier to go buy a new non-Nokia phone.
The N95 Mail client seems to work fine and can retrieve all messages from this same account, someone is working backwards, go figure.
I love my purple screen, 1/2 day battery, sketchy touch screen and $800 price tag - I call it my Lumia 900

    Hey
Here's a business card I picked up at CTIA last fall at the Nokia booth.  I spent a half hour going through with him all the things that bugged me abut my N97 email experience.
Kirk Stromberg - Senior Product Marketing Manager, Nokia Messaging. [email protected]  Mountain View, California   .
To give Kirk a little break I won't publish his mobile number here.  I'm guessing he's responsible for the US market - but at least he's in the right organization.
I spent 5 or more hours over the weekend trying to deal with the limited configuration options of the new email set up wizard and now have 4 email accounts - Roadsync (after using MfE for 8 months), default messaging client for POP3, Nokia messaging for my IMAP4 personal account and my Yahoo account.
It all works, and works better than last June - but why oh why do I have to have 2 email clients to check 4 accounts, no push on my POP3 account because Nokia Messaging won't let me configure detailed server settings, no HTML email on the Exchange 2003 or POP3 accounts and the email widget will only show Exchange email on the home screen, not on the others. Nokia messaging sometimes takes a long time  to push out emails, like an hour.
Because not all the clients support Destinations I am running Birdstep SmartConnect to handle moving in and out of WiFi (free and works fine on 5th ed even though not officially supported).
Now with v21 I am loving my N97 again, but all this is a good example of why Blackberry is king of email.  Its taken months of experience followed by hours of research, downloading and configuration to get something that on a Blackberry just works out of the box.

  • Any News in the Mail/Hotmail IMAP issue?

Since installing OS Lion on my Macbook Pro mail rejects all my hotmail passwords.  My iMac running Snow Leopard all works fine.  Know this has been an issue.  Any news on when Apple will provide a fix?

Can you send messages from the Hotmail account?
Is the hotmail account a POP3 account (as opposed to an IMAP or Exchange account)? If so are there any messages on the server to download? If they were downloaded on  another device and then deleted from the serer, then they are not available for download on another device.
