IMAP Mail issues turning up after Leopard upgrade.

So I made the upgrade installation of leopard about a month ago, and after some initial path-renaming-issues (fixing a problem where none of my folders showed any content) I ended up with the following issues:
I have synch problems where mail is in but shows no content for quite some time. (An issue seen in another thread here, asked by professorB).
The boxes don't synch the right amount (can say 3 new message in a folder, when there're only 2 in). This issue often disappears if I restart Mail.
When I send mail, sometimes the draft folder gets a copy which just won't go away, even though I sent it already (can still be manually deleted - and the message did reach the receiver).
But above all, messages received in HTML format, sometimes just won't display correctly. They display as if they were plain text 1 out of 3 times. There is a workaround though. If I move the buggy messages to another folder and then back again, they always turn into valid HTML format mails.
Anyone else experiencing similar problems with IMAP accounts?
I run Mail 3.5 and Leopard 10.5.6 and I think my IMAP server is some kind of linux setup (which has worked out nicely before). It's not a windows software compability thing at least.

Download and use Carbon Copy Cloner. Have it clone the drive and then restart from the clone ... before you do anything to lose your stuff. Then, you can proceed to either archive and install or erase and install.
Some folks prefer CCC to SuperDuper, some prefer SuperDuper. I have used both. CCC is Leopard compatible.
SuperDuper and CCC would have given you clones as backups before you 'upgraded' to Leopard. Backups are doubly important these days regardless of time machine.

  • Mail acting very strangely after Leopard upgrade

I upgraded my system from Tiger to Leopard this weekend; it mostly went very smoothly but Mail is fighting me every step of the way.
I did an "erase and install" because I was intending to reinstall everything from scratch, but when I realized how much time that was going to take I used the Migration Assistant to restore everything from my backup drive instead.
I have three email accounts; two .Mac/MobileMe and one IMAP for work. During the process of doing the upgrade I edited the accounts to change mac.com to me.com, and installed the MobileMe software update.
    The problems I'm having:
    1. The aggregator mailboxes Inbox, Drafts and Sent aren't working. I can click on each of the individual inboxes and see the messages therein, but if I select Inbox I get a blank message list, and the window title usually does not update. Occasionally it starts working for a bit but it always stops again.
    2. Mail is always slow to quit, and if I've had it running for a while it refuses to quit at all (or perhaps it wants to take more time than I can stand to wait) so I've had to Force Quit it frequently.
    3. If I start Mail up and send a message right away, it gets sent right then. But at some point, and we're only talking about minutes here, it will take the message but not send it. There's no Outbox showing and the message does show up in the Sent folder; there's no cue that the message has not gone out until you start up Mail the next time and see it being sent.
I should note that the problem is almost certainly with my use of the Migration Assistant, because my laptop was upgraded to Leopard without migrating anything (other than syncing with .Mac) and Mail works perfectly there.
What I've tried to fix this (none of them made any difference whatsoever):
    1. removed the Mail Preferences plist (com.apple.mail.plist) and recreated the accounts
    2. emptied ~/Library/Caches/Mail
    3. deactivated SpamSieve
    4. edited the MobileMe accounts back to using mac.com
    5. looked for relevant errors in the system/console logs (found nothing)
The only thing I haven't tried is backing out the MobileMe software update, because I don't know how to do that.
I've compared com.apple.mail.plist on this system to the one on my laptop, and although they are quite a bit different (this one has more options) there's nothing obviously bogus or broken about any of the data therein.
I am completely stumped. Any suggestions on what else to do to fix this? I've done quite a bit of Googling but I can't even find anyone else reporting the same set of problems...

  • After Leopard Upgrade, HDTV No Longer Displays Full Screen Apple TV??

Fairly recent Apple convert. iMac is directly connected to HDTV (Mini-DVI to HDMI) and A/V Receiver(Toslink). After Leopard upgrade, I now have a black border, on HDTV, no matter what resolution I choose (worked automatically and perfectly on Tiger). In System Preferences-Display, I am mirroring the displays and have Overscan turned off, because without it, the Menu Bar does not display at all. I am wondering if Apple is trying to force me to buy an Apple TV or if maybe I just need to be patient until the correct drivers come out? Apple told me they were referring my problem to the Engineering Department, but I am not holding my breath. Primary need is to view Photos and eventually rent movies, when HD is readily available. Any opinions, predictions or suggestions on resolving would be appreciated. Thanks!!

same issue here. Don't use it very often so could not remember if it was fine previously thought it was. Hope we get help soon.

  • Most of my icons have turned white after I upgraded the operating system

All of the links on my ipad have turned white after I upgraded to 8.1.2. Is there a way of fixing this?

Try restore from iTunes or iCloud backup.

  • Sound for messages and e-Mail get turned off after using handsfree in car

Does anyone have a solution when sounds alerting messages and e-mails are turned off after using the phone in var with handsfree (using Bluetooth)? The sounds are turned back on when restarting the phone but reoccurs after driving in car with handsfree again. This is very annoying when takling several trips with car during a day. The phone still rings when receiving a call.

I did find a solution to my iPhone-iPod-music-overriding-streaming-streaming-services-while-connected-to-USB problem  Although, this solution is likely only applicable to BMW owners with the BMW Apps feature aka 6NR.
There may be other/simpler ways, but this seems to work:
    1) Launch Pandora (or could be Mog, or other BMW Apps app) BEFORE you start iPhone/iPod playback
    2) Start playback of Pandora via ConnectedDrive/BMW Apps.
    3) Press Home button on iPhone, launch your streaming app.
The car still seems to think it's in the ConnectedDrive audio menu, as evidenced by the Entertainment details screen. You can now consistently play back any other audio service via your iPhone without the iPod audio overriding what you're doing. Good times! The only drawback so far is lack of ability to skip tracks via the steering wheel.
As long as you haven't started iPhone/iPod playback when you get in the car, you can often skip steps #1 and #2, and go straight into the ConnectedDrive menu, then go to step #3.  Either way, following steps #1-3 works everytime.

  • IMovie quits after leopard upgrade

iMovie'08 just does not open after leopard upgrade. It says application quit unexpectedly.
    Any ideas what to do?

I too seem to have the same problem. Am running OS 10.5.6 and just will not stay open. Have tried to find the iMovie preference file and there's nothing there which could be the problem.
I too am wondering what I can do???

  • Mail sick after Leopard upgrade

    Hi everyone
I originally added my comments to another thread, but that person's problem has been solved, while mine has not, so I had better post separately.
I had no problems with Mail before I upgraded to Leopard. After I upgraded, Mail wouldn't boot. That turned out to be due to an older copy of Mail still being on my disk, and the Dock and Login Items calling it instead. Deleting the old copy and opening the new copy, so it could run its Leopard setup, fixed that problem. After that, Mail would boot.
However, I was unable to download any mail from my POP server. It worked fine before the upgrade, but wouldn't work after the upgrade. Similar to the other thread, the Activity window would say that messages were being downloaded (and SpamSieve would log them), but they would not appear in my Inbox. Strangely, mailing-list messages etc. filtered to other mailboxes would appear in those other mailboxes.
I have quite a few extra mailboxes. The Leopard upgrade has rearranged them. They used to be listed under the Inbox and Smart Mailboxes (I installed MailTags once, but had problems with it, so I uninstalled it, but the Smart Mailboxes I created remain). The whole hierarchy, from the top of the sidebar, was called "On My Mac".
After the Leopard upgrade, "On My Mac" no longer represents all my mailboxes. It has been shifted down the sidebar, and now only contains my extra mailboxes (mailing lists etc.). My Inbox, Sent, Trash, Junk and Smart Mailboxes are now separate categories to On My Mac, and listed above it. I have no idea if this is relevant or not, but I mention it in case.
Following a suggestion on this forum, I tried rebuilding my Inbox. Mail crashed. It crashes every time I try to Rebuild my Inbox. (Crash log: http://www.riverland.net.au/~clytie/Mail_rebuild.txt).
After my attempted Rebuild, my Inbox was empty. All my previous messages had disappeared. There are plenty of emix files in my ~/Library/Mail POP account folder, but oddly, they are very old, many from previous years. Yet I only keep a couple of months' emails in my Inbox! None of these recent mails remain.
I have turned off Time Machine, so I won't overwrite my previous backup. (I don't know enough about Time Machine's bevaviour yet to take any chances.) My previous backup shows emix files up to the day I upgraded to Leopard, but double-clicking on them only shows a title and an empty window. (This may be because they are on a separate disk to the Mail app.: I don't know.)
I noticed that the Activity window would get stuck downloading specific mails, so I got onto my ISP's Webmail, and deleted as many mails as I could (some mailing list mails, spam etc.). Rebooting Mail after that, I could download a few mails, but again the Activity window would show Mail stuck on another message (usually in the 50s or 60s: "downloading 52 of 694"). If I delete that message in my Webmail, Mail will get stuck on another message next time I Check Mail. (I tell the Activity window to Stop, and it says it is Stopping, but never finishes. I have to Force Quit to stop it. Is mdworker related to Mail?)
I don't know if these "blocking" messages have anything particular in common. My prefs on my MacBook or my ISP don't exclude messages on the basis of size, format or attachments.
I use SpamSieve, GrowlMail and PGPMail. SpamSieve appears to be working: it logs each message received, even though they don't appear in my Inbox. However, SpamSieve's Growl notifications don't appear. I am unsure if Growl is working with Mail, although it still shows up in the Mail prefs: it is working with Speed Download. PGPMail still shows up in the Prefs and menus, but not in the message windows.
I hope this information is useful. I don't know what to do from here. Thankyou for any help you can offer.

My question hasn't been answered here, but I seem to have found the answer myself, eventually.
I decided to move the GrowlMail and PGPMail mailbundles to the Bundles Disabled folder, plus delete my two remaining MailTags smart mailboxes from when I had MailTags installed, then restart.
Lo and behold, as my old Grannie always said, I could successfully rebuild my Inbox. All my much-regretted previous emails appeared again! It was an emotional reunion.
Then I tried checking mail, and LaB again, several days of mail came pouring in.
Evidently something to do with the mailbundles or old smart mailboxes was getting in the way of Mail function.
I'll try reintroducing each mailbundle. I hope nobody else has this problem, but just in case, I thought I'd better leave my belated solution.

  • Hot mail is not working after firefox upgrade. I am using Firefox 12.0. I did not have issue with hotmail, but I am facing problem this week .

I am using Firefox 12.0. I did not have issue with hotmail, but I am facing problem this week after firefox upgrade. After entering login the page freeze. I am not able to continue.
I reviewed the thread. I am not using Foxit.
I reviewed hot mail forum. They suggest firefox upgrade causes this issue.
I tried after clearing my browser's cache and cookies. The situation remain same. Any idea?
    What is the workaround?

Firefox 3.6 needs the Java Second Generation Plugin which comes with newer versions than 1.6.0_03 - update Java, the latest version is 1.6.0_22

  • Missing imported mail folders after Leopard upgrade

After upgrading to Leopard, my previously imported mail folders (from outlook express converted to .mbox) disappeared. I imported again with mixed results. One folder successfully imported but with 2 new but empty folders (at that point I had 3 folders on my mac). I tried to import the second file. It appeared to import, I can see the folder and number of messages but no way to access them. I can't open the folder. I tried it again with the same results. I had no problem accessing the same files prior to the Leopard upgrade. Any suggestions are welcome.
    thanks,
    Dana

I have Comcast email, and I never had a junk folder. However, if you did have these folders, go the preview window where you see all of your email accounts - The window that shows all,of your Mailboxes. Tap the Edit button to the right of the Mailboxes heading. See if the folders are in there.
You can also try closing the mail app and resetting the iPad to see if they reappear.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
BTW, creating a new draft email should make the folder appear again as well.

  • Mail crash on startup after Lion upgrade (with my solution)

    Hello,
I'm sure others will run in to the same scare I did when my mail would crash on startup after upgrading to Lion so I thought I would post my solution. It turns out a new mail app is installed with Lion but I had moved my previous mail app to a sub folder in my applications directory. After the upgrade the old version was not updated but the new version of Mail was installed in the Application root directory. Since my mail doc icon was still linked to my old Mail app it was crashing on startup. I deleted my old mail app, clicked on the new Mail app that was installed in my Application root directory, let the mail database update and all seems well now.
This is the second time I have been bitten by moving my Applications around. I have had a similar issue with iWork, and iPhoto. I guess the lesson is to leave your apps in your Application root directory.
    Hope this helps someone else.

That you can create a new user and it works for them suggests it's some sort of corruption in your user profile.
Have you tried repairing the SharePoint Workspace/Office installation?

  • Imaps connections no longer working after ios5 upgrade

    Hi
I upgraded my ipad to IOS5 today.  After this, connections to our imaps mail server is failing:
Oct 12 18:39:14 umdgrb dovecot: imap-login: Disconnected (no auth attempts): rip=xxx.xx.xx.xx, lip=xxx.x.xx.x, TLS handshaking: SSL_accept() failed: error:1408F119:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:decryption failed or bad record mac
    Server runs debian 5.0.8 (dovecot v 1:1.2.15-7)
and ios 4.x device is still working fine.
    Anyone have any ideas?

This is resolved.  The dovecot SSL certs were a little old and generated with an
older openssl lib.  We've regenerated and distributed new certificates and things are working
again.  Seems support for some older SSL/x509 format has been dropped but the latest
version of openssl tools on the box generates updated formats by default.

  • Mail notifications turning off after re-start

    Hi all,
I have an iPhone 4s running iOS 7.1.1. I have my mail notifications turned on in the lock screen as alerts and to be shown in the notification centre, but after re-starting my phone, they turn off. After a re-start, both the 'show in notification centre' and 'show on lock screen' options are turned off. The phone vibrates when I get an email, but nothing comes up on the lock screen.
I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue, so any help would be appreciated. It's a bit annoying to keep having to turn them on again every time I re-start my phone.
    Cheers

    Hi nengelbrecht6,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like some of the Notification Center settings aren't sticking on your iPhone. The quickest and easiest way to troubleshoot this issue will be restarting your iPhone and then restoring it, if the restart didn't resolve the issue.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    I hope this helps.

I am not able to use my USB flash disk after the upgrade to Leopard. The disk does not mount at all, though i can see it listed in the System Profiler.
Before the upgrade to Leopard, the same disk used to work perfectly.
Can anyone please tell me how I can solve this issue ?
    Thanks.

Check to see if your USB Drive has the latest firmware. Leopard tends not to support older firmware.

  • ISync problems after Leopard upgrade...please help

I recently upgraded to Leopard. It worked fine on my laptop, but something went wrong with my mac mini. The only way it would install is with a complete reformatting...had everything backed up, so I figured why not. Here is my mess.
    1. In iSync, my old Tiger mac mini is still registered and th e Leopard one is not syncing with that registration...it creates its own. Should I just delete both, reset the iSync with my laptop as the model and go from there?
    2. iweb does not have my old web sites in it. They are in my iDrive, but i don't know how to get them back on iWeb. I created them on the mac mini, so would unregistering it make me loose them? Is there a way that I can get them on the laptop's iWeb?
    3. My mail and safari fail to launch windows.....If I open a new window, I can see it listed, but I can't see it. What is up with this?
    Can someone help?

I've already reset PRAM with the option, command,P,R keys... letting it chime a couple times... and have already done this many times over the last few days. Doesn't seem to help. I don't know how to reset NVRAM via open firmware and the instructions are vague. But, supposedly a PRAM reset is all you have to do.
If it is a heat problem, why would it only have presented itself directly after a Leopard upgrade? It also does it when I boot off the Leopard disk. Actually does it worse. I'd just get a new card if I wasn't suspicious about the Leopard upgrade... not convinced it's a hardware problem yet. Though the card is mounted on the bottom slot above the CPUs. It has a fan on top that appears to be working but it doesn't look like much clearance between the card and the top of the CPUs case.
I could move it up a slot to give it more air... but it still doesn't explain why until last Monday, it worked fine under Tiger.
