Imap mail not working!

I've just switched form a pc to a mac book pro. untill today (day 2) I've been really happy.
the sad part is I can't get the computer to check my mail or send it. I keep getting asked over and over and over again for my password. ive checked and treble checked my password it is correct. I've been looking at the tech notes and even tryed to get keychain first aid to help but it just crashes.
can any one tell me what I'm doing wrong? I've even gone through the help on my web host but its not working.

In Mail the two important identifiers are the Password and the Username entry. The latter must be entered directly in the setup, and is never extracted from the email address entry. Some mail servers respond to the Username portion of an email address (the part in front of the @) and others need the complete email address to be entered as the Username. You might try the opposite of what you have done already.
Who is the provider of this IMAP account, btw, and do they have any support documents that say how to set up an account with Apple Mail? With any email client?

I'm wondering if iOS 5.1.1 broke IMAP mail on the iPad2 and iPhone 4S.
Background
I have used several email accounts on the iPad2 and iPhone 4S (and the iPhone 4 before that) successfully for quite some time. Just recently I noticed that there were no new emails in any of my IMAP accounts.
Tried so far...
I've deleted and re-entered my email account information several times. I've hard "re-booted" the devices (home + off til the apple reappears). None of these procedures have fixed things.

You can post the question again, but trust me, iOS 5.1.1 did not break IMAP mail on the iPad. I realize that you are frustrated by this issue, but IMAP email accounts are working for me - as I stated earlier and they are working for the majority of IMAP email users as well. I posted this in your first post and I don't know if you even tried it.
Have you tried just quitting mail and then restart the iPad and see what happens?
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You can also turn mail off in the settings, restart and the turn mail on again in the settings and sometimes that resets things back to normal.
Settings>Mail>Your Email Account>Mail>Off. Restart the iPad and go back to Settings>Mail>Your email Account>Mail On. See if your email accounts will work.

Nope, doesn't pass verification. I get the spinner for a minute or so, then the alert about setting it up without SSL. Are you suggesting I disable Fetch and Push BEFORE I enter the account details? Because I never get past the account details screen, unless I choose "Set up without SSL" after the warning.

10.9.5 Mail not working after internet outage. Connection doctor shows everything green. Other apps connecting to internet fine. Mailboxes show online. I can login and get mail via web iCloud.com. But Mail app will not send or receive. Tried rebooting Mac, and restarting Mail. Tried Rebuild. Second day with this problem.

Should be Mail 4.5. With Spotlight, check to see if you have more than one version of the Mail app onboard. Also, make sure that there is one at the root level of the Applications folder, and that it is namely simply Mail before applying the Combo.

Hmmm, no, no drivers needed, now it sounds like a bad install... unless you might have some old Mouse software installed???
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

The only possible way to get my mail working with Mac OS X 10.7.4 was to use Thunderbird (latest version, 13) instead of Apple Mail. I don't know if this was related to my ISP only but I'm surprised that there aren't more discussions about this problem. Apparently, it is very widespread from what my ISP said. They said there is a problem with (or change in) the way Apple Mail handles POP accounts under Mac OS X 10.7.x. They are getting dozens of calls about it every day. My POP account, which worked perfectly under Mac OS X 10.6.8, simply would not retrieve mail under Mac OS X 10.7.4 using the exact same settings. I tried absolutely everything that I could find on the Internet to resolve the problem in order to continue to use Apple Mail.
So for anyone else experiencing this problem, forget Apple Mail. Download Thunderbird and set up your POP account exactly as it was set up under Snow Leopard and your problem will be solved. Looks like Apple has some fixing to do. This is unacceptable, regardless of what Apple's excuse is or whatever their reason was for making this change.
