IMAP Mailbox not behaving as it should with Mac

Hi all,
Hope you can help.
Have recently set up an IMAP email account for my business on both my Mac and my iPhone.
Anything read or deleted on my Mac syncs with my iPhone as it should but when I read the email on my iPhone it does NOT appear as 'read' on my Mac. In fact, it marks itself as unread again if left for a while. Also mail deleted on the phone does not appear deleted on my Mac.
Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance,
Nigel

My Discover Card App.
It's frozen... Can't delete it or anything. Just stuck in "waiting" mode...won't open... Nothing.

    You don't. Since you have an Intel Mac, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

  • IPad 3 Mailboxes not showing even after syncing with iMac and switching on SSL and port readings the same; even tried rebuild. Switched iPad off, rebooted and discovered settings went back to preset?

    Hi to all techies,
    Ipad3 with new iMail does not show mailboxes.  Have tried swithcing SSL on and making port same number 993 as imac; then telling imail in imac to synchronise but to no avail still no mailboxes appearing on ipad mail.  My husbands new ipad air worked straight away same OS?

    I'm sorry. I probably wasn't clear enough in my response. What I am saying is that one can create mailboxes in the Mac mail app and those mailboxes can be for local storage only - the "on my Mac" mailboxes. Those do sync to any other device. The ability to creat those mailboxes is a feature of the Mac mail app.
    You cannot create additional mailboxes on the iPad unless your email account is an IMAP account. I am not familiar with BT internet at all so I don't know if you have IMAP or not. I assume that your husband has the same email provider and if his mailboxes did sync to the iPad, then yours should as well.
    You can check to be sure if you don't know if your email account is an IMAP account. If you go to your email account in the iPad Mail app and look at the window where your inbox, trash folder and sent folder are - if there is an Edit button at the top of the window - tap that and then tap Add Mailbox at the bottom. If an new mailbox appears, you have IMAP.
    If the Edit button is not there - you cannot create folders on the iPad. Your email account is not IMAP. Only IMAP email accounts can create folders on the iPad. Any folders that you would already have in an IMAP account would sync to the device as well.

  • Note regarding ATI X1900 XT with Mac Pro, Leopard

    To all who are experiencing any of the frequently reported problems with the hardware/software combination listed in the subject heading:
    I purchased the ATI X1900 XT as an upgrade fro my Mac Pro in January. I never experienced any issues with the card in OS X Tiger, but several months ago I began to experience overheating issues in Windows XP (Boot Camp) when playing graphics-intensive games. The overheating caused visible graphics corruption/artifacts, graphics system resets and even spontaneous system restarts. The frequency and severity of these symptoms actually increased over time, leading me to believe that the card was either defective or that the overheating was causing degenerative/cumulative damage to the graphics hardware.
    I recently upgraded to OS X Leopard, and all **** broke loose. Immediately after upgrading, I began to experience frequent graphics corruption/artifacts (in the form of spurious horizontal lines), system lockups/freezes and spontaneous system restarts. None of these issues were present in Tiger. The system became completely unreliable and essentially unusable.
    It was initially a popular belief that Leopard's graphics drivers were somehow buggy or incompatible with the X1900 XT. After my experiences, I don’t believe that’s the case. I think that the issues reported are symptomatic of hardware, not software problems. Leopard is merely a catalyst. Leopard's increased leverage of OpenGL stresses the graphics hardware in ways that Tiger did not, causing an overall increase in graphics hardware temperature. I believe that the glitches/artifacts/system freezes/restarts that I experienced were not due to buggy drivers, but due to the graphics card overheating as a result of the increased load placed on it by Leopard.
    I brought my X1900 XT in to my local Apple store today and asked for a replacement. Fortunately, they had one in stock, and they gave me a new card on the spot. The technician was apparently well aware of the issues, and mentioned that they have had a lot of similar problems with new iMacs.
    Since installing the new card, I have experienced no graphics corruption, system freezes or spontaneous system restarts, either in OS X Leopard or in Windows XP gaming.
    I would urge anyone who is experiencing problems with the X1900 XT (in either Windows or OS X) to have their card replaced by Apple - assuming that their card or system is still under warranty, that is.
    I suspect one of two possible scenarios is true:
    Theory #1: The Rev 1 X1900 XT is inherently flawed and has problems with overheating, which is exacerbated in OS X by upgrading to Leopard. Due to Leopard's greater leveraging of OpenGL, there is increased thermal stress placed on the card relative to Tiger. The overheating is evident in Leopard as graphics corruption/artifacts, system lockups/freezes and spontaneous restarts. The Rev 2 X1900 XT has (theoretically) corrected the problems inherent in Rev 1.
    Theory #2. The thermal management system of the X1900 XT (all revisions) is inherently flawed. The card will slowly cook itself over time, and the effects are degenerative and cumulative. As the age of the card increases, so will the occurrence of graphics corruption, system freezes and spontaneous system restarts, especially when playing graphics-intensive games or running OS X Leopard.
    I sincerely hope that Theory #1 is the case. I’ll be watching my system closely as I continue to use the new card, and hopefully there will be no further problems with overheating.
    If theory #2 turns out to be true, then Apple has a huge PR nightmare on its hands, as each X1900 XT for the Mac is essentially a ticking time bomb that will self-destruct within months of purchase.
    The funny thing is, this isn’t the first time I’ve had graphics card trouble with one of Apple’s “professional” towers. I bought a G5 several years ago when they were first released. I had problems with the stock nVidia graphics card in the form of what came to be known as the dreaded “black screen of death.” This became a commonly reported issue, experienced by many owners of the G5 in its first revision. Apple replaced my card and the problem never reoccurred. I’m hoping that I’ll be as lucky this time around.
    I think it’s apparent that Apple’s batting average with graphics cards isn’t exactly stellar. It’s curious, considering that Apple offers a very limited selection of graphics options for their towers. One would think that by Apple only offering 3 graphics options, they would be able to have fairly tight control over the quality of the hardware, and plenty of time and resources to devote to testing. Unfortunately, I’ve had more graphics hardware-related problems on my Macs than any PCs I’ve ever used. That’s embarrassing, and Apple needs to do much better than this.

    I replaced my G5 Quad with a Mac Pro 8-core. The Mac Pro's thermal design is far superior to the G5's. The G5 Quad's liquid cooling system has a much bigger task (IBM doesn't publish the thermal dissipation numbers on their PPCs but I suspect they are high) than the more efficient Intel Xeons. The G5 liquid cooling units are troublesome and the issue is something I think Apple is quietly solving by replacing failed liquid cooled G5's (that are still under warranty) with Mac Pros (a very smart PR move). My primary concern when I switched to a Mac Pro was issues with the X1900 XT graphics card failure rates posted on the web and in these discussions. The very latest generation of the X1900 XT (July 2007) are reported to be more reliable. Many G5 owners are still reporting failed cards. Given the much higher thermal environment and the remarks in this thread, I can now see why. The interior of a G5, especially Quad, gets too hot for this ATi card. I had the nVidia GeForce 7800 GT in my Quad. That was a very good card. Still, the issues with the ATi x1900 XT may indeed be a thermal design issue that AMD may need to either address directly, or turn to a 3rd party solution.
    I installed a 3rd party cooling alternative, Arctic Cooling's Accelero S1. It's a passive system that replaces that hairdryer fan with a large heat sink. The package includes upgraded heat sinks for the power regulator (much beefier than the stock), and for each memory chip. The heat sink is a large conductive cooling assembly that uses 4 heat pipes. The vendor claims that using this system increases the case temperature by 1°C, which is easily handled by the system cooling system. So far, their claim appears to be valid. Since there's no longer a fan, you can imagine how quiet the system has become. The only installation hitch is that the black support clips were made for the PC version and the Mac Version adds a beefy support rail on the spine of the card. The workaround is to trim off the lower tang of the clips so they just rest against the support rail.
    After reading this, I'm tempted to add the "Turbo" option, a couple of high volume low speed fans that fit on the radiator. I'm trying to "stress" the system by running SETI@Home 24/7 while doing all the other work to see how hot and how loud I can get this system. So far, no disappointments. This is the quietest workstation I've ever worked on. Even when "hot", the fans are not loud. The passive cooling system seems to work very well. I left Star Wars-Empire At War up and running in the menu for hours one day and it didn't seem to suffer from any ill effects. I have owned this system for just over a month. I will add more thermal load after I crank the system memory up to 24 or 32 GB. If there are any real cooling issues, I will find out about them next summer. I really dread the prospect of plunking down another $2k for the nVidia 4500 FX (I really don't need the 3D audio support) to get comparable video support.

  • Photoshop CC not loading on MacBook Air with Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks)

    Photoshop CC is not loading at all after updating my 2013 MacBook Air with Mac OS 10.9. The error message (in German as I am using the German version) says "Konnte Photoshop nicht initialisieren da ein Programmfehler aufgetreten ist" ("couldn't initialize photoshop since a program error occurred") . Application launcher is updated to the latest version and deinstalling and re-installing photoshop CC didn't change anything. What can I do?

  • My Imac does not recognize a TEAC CDW54E with Mac OS 10.2.8

    I have an iMac 333Mhz and a TEAC CDW54E external USB CD Burner. This burner works so good with Mac OS 9.2.1, but when I start my computer using Mac OS 10.2.8. the finder does not activate and recognize the CD burner. This burner needs that the finder activated the CD unit in order to recognize it. The Apple System Profile recognize an extenal USB Mass Storage Unit, but not the TEAC CDW54E CD burner. The Toast 5.2 Lite does not recognize any recorder present. I want to know if somebody have a driver or a Terminal Instruction in order to help the Mac OS 10.2 to recognize this CD burner.
    Best regards.
    Jose Blanco.

    I have the same drive (a PC friend gave it to me when they upgraded to an internal drive). Teac does NOT support the Mac. The only way I could get the CDW54E to work was in OS 9 and only with an older version of Toast. I gave up and brought the drive to work where I have to use a PC. It works fine with XP Pro. My suggestion (if it fits into your budget) is buy a $99.00 DVD/CDRW burner and be done with it (I suggest one like this model from OWC: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/). When you get the chance to buy a newer Mac, a drive like this will make the move with you easily. Trying to get this burner to work in OS X will continue to be a lesson in frustration. Good luck. I hope you find a way to prove me wrong. The cheapest alternative is forget about burning disks in OS X and keep on burning them in OS 9.

  • 500k Unique Limit not behaving as it should?

    Hoping to get an official "Adobe" answer here as results via Twitter were not too successful, plus this is just too detailed to be accurately articulated in 140 character chunks.  Anyways, the problem comes with an instance I am working on where unique page views for URLs that are well over 500K are not being bucketed in to the "low traffic" category as they should be per this adobe documentation:
    Uniques Exceeded (Low-Traffic) Logic
    I've attached a screenshot, these URLs all only have 1 view per the month, and are not previously recorded, so these should all be falling into the low bucket traffic, but they are not, and this number continues to grow.  Anyone experienced this before, and if you have, do you have insights on to why the software is behaving as such?
    Thanks!

  • Rephrase my previois post: why mustsaslserver not behaving as it should be

    Shane,
    I think it is better to rephrase my question:
    In a previous answer you said the following:
    An email server/client was able to connect to your server on port 25
    You can enforce SASL on port 25 connections from non-local hosts (not defined in INTERNAL_IP) by modifying the imta.cnf configuration file and changing the tcp_local channel definition. Replace the "maysaslserver" keyword with "mustsaslserver".
    But I've just found this on my testing server:
    After changing the maysaslserver to mustsaslserver for the tcp_local
    stanza,
    PC clients CANNOT connect to my testing server (for mail relaying)
    , which is correct.
    But mails from email servers
    ^^^^^^^^
    CAN, becos incoming mails are still able to come in and sent to
    the local users.
    The mapping file is okay as the stanza is :
    INTERNAL_IP
    $(ip.of.this.host/24) $Y
    127.0.0.1 $Y
    * $N
    Why?

    Okay, Shane.
    Let me describe what I've tried on this JSMS server.
    But before I do so, here is the relevant lines in my mappings file:
    INTERNAL_IP
    $(158.182.1.76/24) $Y
    127.0.0.1 $Y
    * $N
    My line in imta.cnf , i.e. before I've changed it looks like:
    ! tcp_local
    tcp_local smtp mx single_sys remotehost inner switchchannel identnonenumeric sub
    dirs 20 maxjobs 7 pool SMTP_POOL maytlsserver maysaslserver saslswitchchannel t
    cp_auth missingrecipientpolicy 0 loopcheck
    When I tested it by sending mail to one of its users from outside, the mail was received
    okay. This is expected.
    Now according to the manual, if I change the "maysaslserver" in the line above
    to "mustsaslserver", then if I did the same test mentioned above,
    it will reject the mail because it won't accept any smtp connection from
    anything other than its own IP (158.182.1.76) or 127.0.0.1
    Is my understanding CORRECT ?
    But when I did the same test (i.e. sending mail to it like I've described above,
    there's no difference. In other words. it did not reject the mail but received it)
    Why?

  • IPhoto is not behaving as it should!

    It's really slow to load.
    iCloud sharing doesn't seem to work properly although I followed the help instructions meticulously.
    When I click "share" it takes ages to load and "iCloud" is grayed out and the only option given is email.
    It won't let me set up a new stream- or rather it won't let me load anything into a new stream.
    At the moment I've given up and am sharing via a memory stick which is useless for videos!!

  • USB3 external HDD not behaving on one PC (with USB3, but OK on USB2)

    I have two Windows 7 (32 bit) PCs with USB3.
    A laptop (with built-in USB3) and a desktop PC "PC with an add-in USB3 PCI card.
    Yesterday I took delivery of a Toshiba Canvios Plus portable 1TB USB3 external HDD.
    It works fine with the laptop. It doesn't work so well with the PC (on USB3).
    I already use USB3 ports on the PC for a 3.5inch 2TB Segate external HDD and a couple of USB3 flash drives.
    Those work absolutely fine.
    The new Toshiba works fine (albeit slower than full USB3) on the PC when connected to USB2.
    I have downloaded and installed the latest VIA drivers for the USB3 on the PC and that makes no difference.
    The symptoms are that anything other than small copies (at best a small number of small files) TO the Toshiba are very slow and hang unless I do some other activity on the PC (e.g. open a browser window or start my email client or ......) - in which case it gives a short burst of activity before slowing down / hanging again. If I keep initiating other non-related activities, it completes OK.
    Deleting files also seems to be a bit of a problem (similar issues).
    But not so obviously so. Copying from the device is better (but probably still not perfect).
    The Toshiba was supplied formatted as FAT32 and so I changed to NTFS (by deleting and recreating the partition), but no improvement.
    In Resource Monitor, the disk shows at or very near 100% Active Time whilst the copies are (attempting) to run (even when it is apparently hanging). And the indicator on the device is flashing whilst all this is going on (suggesting it is busy even though nothing is really happening).
    Also, cancelling a copy often takes a very long time to take effect (varies, but could easily be a couple of minutes or more).
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for taking the trouble to reply.
    I eventually identified the problem. There's a power supply issue on the USB3 card on the desktop PC. Although the USB3 card has an additional power connector (to take a direct feed off the PSU wiring loom which IS connected and live), it clearly isn't getting through (properly) to the USB3 ports.
    I have a workaround, which is to use a USB3 Y cable (like this http://www.cavalrystorage.com/cbusb20002.aspx ) with the main connector on USB3 card/port (for signal and whatever power it supplies) and the secondary connector on a spare onboard USB2 port to get power from that. It is not elegant, but it works.
    Thanks again.

  • Combo box not behaving like it should

    I have a form in which I have 4 combo boxes that have more or less the same choices, however there is one that is common to all 4 (E078).
    When "E078" is selected in any of the combo box, a new combo box will appear (and a white rectangle will be hidden so that the new combo box title can be seen). It works when I select that in one or more combo box, however to make it disappear I have to select some other choice in the same combo box twice!!! If I select anything only once, it will not make the new combo box hidden, but if re-select something (same or another choice) then the combo box will disappear!
    I am at lost, and would be very thankful if someone could make it work seamlessly. I mean it works, nut it is just inconvenient and I cannot tell the user to make select something else twice if they want the field to disappear.
    Here is my form:

    When you use event.value in a combo box's Validate event it does not give you the export value, which is what you want. It is easier to use place the code in a custom Keystroke script where you can use the event.changeEx property to retrieve the export value of the selected item. • Navigation menu active page color not behaving as it should

    I created an unordered list for the mainnav links. I use the following lines in the code:
    <li><a href="../index.html" class="thispage">Home</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">Events</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">Music</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">Agenda</a></li>
            <li><a href="../Pages/artists.html">Artists</a></li>
    The Home button shows the color for 'active', but if I go to the artists page it first shows the hover color, then the page opens but does not show the active color.... I.o.w. the Home button stays on active though it is not active.
    Please see the effect on my testsite: www.adrianrooymans.nl

    I'm sorry, but I tried that already, and it does not solve the problem. If I do that I get TWO active pages, but clicking anywhere on the artists page makes the blue color go away, except for the Home button.... I could temporarily put that on the testserver so that you could see what happens (unless you beleive me).
    You will get two active menu items unless the class is removed from the links that you don't want it on.
    If you look at the example page code in the 'completed' folder of the Bayside Beat tutorial you will see on the 'index' page the class has been added to the 'index' link:
    <nav id="mainnav">
          <ul>
            <li><a href="index.html" class="thispage">Home</a></li>
            <li><a href="sightseeing.html">Sightseeing</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">Eating Out</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">What's On</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">Where to Stay</a></li>
          </ul>
        </nav>
    Whilst on the 'sightseeing' page the class has been moved to the 'sightseeing' link:
    <nav id="mainnav">
            <ul>
                <li><a href="index.html">Home</a></li>
                <li><a href="sightseeing.html" class="thispage">Sightseeing</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Eating Out</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">What's On</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Where to Stay</a></li>
            </ul>
        </nav>

  • For loop is not behaving as it should

    Hi,
    Please help me if you can.
    I'm using netbeans, I have a Dog class with a bark() method which contains an If/Else Statement:
    void bark() {
    if (size > 60) {
    System.out.println("Woof! Woof!");
    } // If
    if (size > 14) {
    System.out.println("Ruff! Ruff!");
    } // If
    else {
    System.out.println("Yip! Yip!");
    When I call this method from the Dog class with a new Dog object (after I have initialised it with a value of 64, the If statements execute If size > 60 AND if size > 14 and it didn't before! Why is this? It used to just execute the top If statement.
    The only thing I can think of is that I was trying to define set CLASSPATH on the command prompt the other day (to no success even though it was pointing right to the folder for javac etc) but I don't think this would cause an If statement to execute like this?

    Check the value of size variable in your method..I think its finding somthing different value what u r expecting ...what the heck are you talking about? This has absolutely nothing to do with the original poster's problem.

  • App not behaving as it should

    One of my apps is stuck in waiting mode for days now. It appears as though it got stuck during an update.

    It's frozen... Can't delete it or anything. Just stuck in "waiting" mode...won't open... Nothing.
