IMAP server appears to be temporarily out of service = No Mail?

This may be the wrong forum for this, I know. However, the .mac forum is the "land of the misfit repair requests" as far as Apple is concerned. Perhaps posting this here will get some attention.
This issue does not impact all .mac mail accounts but if it impacts yours, you already know its not working.
Can someone in Cupertino take a look?
Thanks

  • The server error encountered was: your IMAP server appears to be temporaril

The server error encountered was: your IMAP server appears to be temporarily out of service
on one mac account but not the other why?

k finally my account is receiving mail. But it was out of service for over 15 hours. And on only one of my .mac email accounts don't know how or why. Yet I even deleted my account from my mail and re-entered it but that didn't help, only time did. So strange and discerning for a paid mail account service. Great when it works. But it might be nice to have an auto forward feature for when the accounts go down so that emails may still be sent and received at one of my free email providers that has not ever had any issues. Good luck

  • What is my IMAP server name so I can reload my Kindle e-mail

I am re-adding my e-mail account to my Kindle. It's asking for the IMAP server name. Where so I find this?

Who is your email provider? Your email provider names their server. Best ask them.
If you have Thunderbird running on another device, go to Tools-Account Settings-Outgoing Server (SMTP) and see what is there.

  • Mail stopped picking up new mail from IMAP server [MDaemon]

I've been using Mail to pick up my mail from a number of different mail accounts (MobileMe, Gmail and work mail). Everything has worked fine until a couple of weeks ago when mail stopped picking up new mail from my work mail account.
I have tried deleting the mail account and setting it up again - all that did was to lose the cached mail on my machine, although it picked up the folders from the imap server and it's looking in the folders for mail [I can see that from the Activity Window]. It also seems not to delete everything as, when I went to set it up again, the email address field was already defaulted to the one for the account I had previously deleted.
I then tried creating a new user on my laptop and setting up the work mail account under this user. It worked perfectly - it went off and got all of the mail from the server (OK by me) and started picking up the mail OK.
So I'm guessing that if I can really delete the mail fully from my main user, I could reintroduce it and all would be well. However, I've scanned the whole disk for my email address and deleted (after backing up) all files I found with the address in. Again, it still seemed to know about the account I removed.
    Anyone any ideas?

  • ITunes store temp out of service...HELP!!!

I have been trying to get on to the iTunes store now for over 24 hours...my message says "*We could not complete your iTunes store request* : The iTunes store is temporarily out of service. try again later"
Is anyone else having this problem!? I am getting quite annoyed!!!

Yes! I'm having the same issue, and it has been coming up for about a week now. It started with an error about Itunes not being available in the US and now I'm getting a message that says "We could not complete your Itunes store request. The itunes store is temporarily out of service. try again later."
I've tried downloading a new version but it times out every time I try to install it. I've also deleted McAfee off of my computer. Not sure what else to do.

  • Folders on the IMAP server do not appear or appear in wrong location - those cannot be modified in Thunderbird because "they do not exist on server".

    Hi all,
A few days ago, I moved 3 sub-folders within my Archive folder. I was doing those modifications using Thunderbird.
My Archive folder used to contain the following sub-folders:
    Archive
    /A2014
    /B2014
    /C2014
I tried to move the folders A2014, B2014 and C2014 under the sub-folder LastYear, and created new A, B and C folders for 2015, so that it would be something like:
    Archive
    /LastYear
    /A2014
    /B2014
    /C2014
    /A2015
    /B2015
    /C2015
On the webmail interface, everything looks fine: the old A, B and C folders where moved into the Archives/LastYear folder, and the new A, B and C folders appear under Archives. However, on Thunderbird things are a bit more... strange.
Case 1: For some folders, things are as they should be.
Folders A2014 and B2014 were correctly moved into Archives/LastYear.
Folders A2015 and C2015 were correctly created in Archives.
Case 2: One folder does not appear at all - anymore.
Folder B2015 does not appear anywhere - despite being visible on the webmail interface. It does not appear in the list of folders to synchronize. No .msf file appear. Nothing happens if I try creating it again.
Note that it briefly existed after I created it, but stopped appearing a few hours later.
Case 3: One folder appears in the wrong location and cannot be accessed.
Folder C2014 appears in the old location (Archives) and not were it should be (and is on the webmail interface), that is Archives/LastYear. I cannot perform any operation on it in Thunderbird, I systematically get the following error message:
"The current operation on 'C2014' did not succeed. The mail server for account <AccountName> responded: "Archives/C2014" doesn't exist."
(Which is correct because according to the server the folder C2014 is in Archives/LastYear).
The C2014.msf file is also wrongly located, but moving it to the correct location did not change anything: the next time Thunderbird was started, the wrongly located .msf file was re-created.
Thunderbird does not show the emails contained in this folder - when I try loading them I get the previous error message.
Using the same style than before, here is how my Archives folder look right now:
    Archive
    /LastYear
    /A2014
    /B2014
    /A2015
    /C2015
    /C2014
I am totally flabbergasted, I have no idea of where the problem is. I tried various fixes found on forums (such as playing around with the .msf files), but no luck so far. Any idea?
    A few more details:
    - I use an IMAP server.
    - This is a professional address, and I have little control on it.
    - I use Thunderbird with this account on two different computer, the problem is identical on both computers.
    - I tried removing/re-installing the account from Thunderbird, it did not change anything.
I would be eternally grateful if any of you could come up with a solution!
    Many many thanks,
    Agnes

I know my files downloaded through Firefox won't appear in my downloads folder because that is just supported by Safari
No, I think that Apple just assigned the Downloads folder to Safari to send things there by default. You can do the same with Firefox, just go to the Firefox Preferences, click on main, tick the "Save files to..." and click the Choose button, then navigate to /Users/yourname/Downloads and click choose. I have always had all my Internet applications download things to a Downloads folder I keep at the root level of the drive (so all users can access them), but I just changed the Firefox pref to the new Apple Downloads folder and it worked fine.

  • Sent messages do not appear in sent folder - IMAP server

In my mac mail program, I have a .mac account and a gmail account, both of which work fine on all accounts. I also use another email account which is on an IMAP server. If I send an email from the webmail site, the sent message appears in my sent folder both at the webmail site AND in the folder on my mac email client. If I send an email using the mac email client, the message arrives to the destination, but no sent copy appears either in the sent folder on the mac client or at the webmail site. Please help!!

    Hi David,
Where in the Sidebar to the Mail window, does the
Sent folder appear, if one does, for the .mac
    account?
    Ernie
    Ernie,
The sent folder (little airplane icon) for the .mac folder automatically appeared under my email accounts (in fact, both sent accounts - for my gmail and .mac - appeared as subfolders of the sent folder) when I set those accounts up. Those both work fine, though. It's the IMAP account that isn't working.

Have you considered the possibility that the third party fan software might itself be implicated in the issue, theosib (or perhaps something else introduced at about that time?).
My inclination in a situation like this would be to back up your drive to an external, wipe the drive, and do a clean installation. At the very least I'd try an archive and install.
Do you have plenty of free space on the drive? Once you get things down below the last 10 to 20% things can get hairy at times, and may not be fixed as a result of simply freeing up some room, as free space fragmentation is likely to have set in.
As far as RAM goes, either "Rember" - http://www.kelleycomputing.net:16080/rember/ or, better still, but less user friendly, "memtest" - http://www.memtestosx.org/ does a much better job of checking your RAM than the AHT. Still takes a while to run for a thorough test, but much quicker than the approach you are planning on using.
You might also want to use "Activity Monitor" to check for any applications with progressive "memory leaks" or that are acting as CPU hogs, given your symptoms
    Cheers

  • Imap server times out

Ever since I updated to Mavericks on one of my imap email server accounts I occasionally get this popup:
I notice when I open Mail an exclamation mark next to the name of my imap email account and upon clicking on it I get above popup. Which is in Dutch but translated roughly to:
[name email account] cannot be opend.
Time out of the connection with server 'imap.emailaccount.com' through port 143.
The exclamation mark generally goes away when I click the 'receive email' button or restart Mail.
I deleted the account and set it up again to reset it. All the values are correct as checked with my ISP.
What is this message about and how can it be fixed? It doesn't always does it. Most of the time it just works. Then every now and then I get this exclamation mark so I know something is wrong and when I click on it above screenshot. Then it goes away upon clicking on the 'receive email' button or when restarting and it continues to work again. So it's not all the time.

I am getting the same error occassional also and I am running OSX server 10.9.  When I checked the mail log there is nothing that points me to a possible cause.
This is my Mail Server log:

  • Strange folders appearing on IMAP server

    Hi
Over the past couple of months I have had folders with names like 'nfs000000000c8133a7000000b5' appearing on the top level of my IMAP server. They have appeared once or so per week and I now have 15 - all with names starting 'nfs000000000.....'
They cannot be deleted - i get the error message "This mailbox "nfs000000000c8133a7000000b5" could not be deleted. The IMAP command "DELETE" failed with server error: Mailbox does not exist, or must be subscribed to ..."
    - which I am guessing suggests the problem is on the Mail application side rather than server side.
any ideas how to solve this??
    thanks

Try saving to an internal drive and then tell us what happens.
Any ideas where this is being generated, and what to do about it? < </div>
It must be a function of your particular drive software. I've never seen it in all of my years of LT/FCP work.

  • Message index is not in sync with IMAP Server

On my Intel mini running Mac OS X 10.4.11, I've been noticing problems with mail on one of my IMAP servers. On the actual IMAP server everything appears fine, but on the mini when I choose a message to display, it displays an entirely different message. I've tried to "Synchronize" the IMAP account, but that doesn't seem to fix anything. If I look at the IMAP server from another location, everything looks fine, so I'm thinking that it's a problem that's local on the local Mac Client. Is there any way to fix this other than deleting the Mail Account and recreating it?

The only time I've noticed that the rebuild option is not selectable is when I don't have a mailbox selected or I have more than one mailbox selected.
If I choose the top level "Inbox" folder which is a place holder for all of my mail server Inboxes, then the rebuild option is grayed out, but when I open the top level Inbox and select just one Inbox in the list, then I can choose the Rebuild option.

  • Leopard Mail fails to update IMAP server properly

I'm wondering if anyone has managed to see this problem and/or troubleshoot it.
System: Apple Mail 3.5 running on a MBP running OS X 10.5.5.
Scenario: When an IMAP email is received in the Inbox and moved to a folder 'On My Mac' in Mail.app for filing, then webmail and iPhone simultaneously recognise that the email has been received (as they should do) and the activity viewer in Mail.app shows that a message is sent to the IMAP account 'changing flags' which results in the email in questions showing 'as read' in the iPhone or in the webmail client.
However, the problem is that the email doesn't appear to be moved out of the Inbox when it should be. In fact, if the email is moved to a sub-folder of the IMAP Inbox in Mail.app, then it appears in the webmail client / iPhone as being BOTH in the Inbox and in the nested sub-folder.
In order for the correct email filing / moves to be reflected, we've found that certain things cause some different activity to take place between Mail.app and the IMAP account. For instance, if you click on any of the other folders associated with the IMAP account in question (e.g. Sent, Trash, Junk) then the email is immediately moved successfully on both of the other platforms using the IMAP account (webmail and iPhone), so there must be something achieved by clicking those parts of the account which clicking in the Inbox doesn't do. Quitting Mail.app also runs some script which achieves the proper sync of mail messages between Mail.app and the IMAP account.
Troubleshooting: Apart from the slightly inconvenient workaround mentioned above, I've tried a host of things to fix this problem. I've deleted the Mail.app caches from the ~/Library/Caches. This didn't fix it. I also have run Onyx to delete system-wide caches. I've tried changing the frequency at which Mail.app contacts the server, testing it at 5, 15 and 30 minute intervals. None of these changes have made a difference. Nor has turning IDLE support on and off in Mail.app. Finally, I tried to use a third-party plugin (Imapcheck) for Mail.app which offers to poll the IMAP server more often to see if this could overcome the problem (it didn't work).
All I can see that's left is to remove the IMAP account from Mail and re-add it. If anyone has any other ideas, I would love to hear them. Thank you in advance!
