IMAPS Errors

Hi Guys,
Info:
Messaging Server 7u3 (7.3-11.01)
Comms DSsetup 6.4 (6.4-5.05)
Convergence 1u3 (1.0-10.01)
someone today pointed to me that he frequently has errors when sending a message, the error is:
"Message sent but save copy failed"
he is using Thunderbird 3.04 and he says that also happens with webmail, so I went to the imap logs and i see many errors like
[11/Jun/2010:13:01:35 -0400] mail imapd[4226]: Network Error: Socket error [192.168.2.1:4828] : I/O function error

the person was trying to send simple message, (no file attached).
I've plenty of space on the /mail/store
any idea what could be the issue
thanks a lot
Kenneth

Hi,
yes, they are from different ports, the address 192.168.2.1 is the IP od the firewall from where the request are coming in. The firewall does a full NAT (source + destination)
now, I start to doubt if Full NAT is the right thing to do or only DNAT, I got these errors all the time in */opt/sun/comms/messaging64/log/imap*

most of users don't seem to be affected or receive error messages on their side, but others receive this message "Message sent but save copy failed" using Thunderbird 3.04 or webmail, are these errors related with the imaps logs ?

  • IMAP error messages "Error while parsing IMAP response"

I'm getting thousands of IMAP errors every hour, can I shut those off?
My console log is flooded with them and it keeps me from seeing anything else
in the system log.  The IMAP errors happen continuously while Mail.app is running.
It looks like debug output from Mail.app !?!
IMAP server is Beehive Server -- it's my company email so I need to use it.
Windows Outlook (Windows 7) shows no errors, possibly they're silently ignored
on Windows.  My disk is writing almost continuously when Mail.appo is running.
Sample error:  (thousands are generated per hour)
Apr  8 10:29:18 Js-Coolio-iMac.local Mail[22903]: Error while parsing IMAP response (null): Incomplete response
              Remaining text: <    Gian Luigi<br>>
              Full text: <    Gian Luigi<br>>
Any idea how to shut these off?  I reinstalled Mavericks, no improvement as expected
since this seems to be Mail complaining about IMAP protocol issues.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.  And yes I've rebooted, reinstalled the IMAP account,
    reinstalled Mavericks, etc.

My Apple ID is my AOL email address. Since I set up iCloud &amp; another email address, I only have an Inbox.  I kept getting a IMAP error.  How do I restore to a previous iCloud backup before this happened?

It may be that the process you used to change the iCloud ID created these issues.  What I would suggest you do is the following:
If you have any photo stream photos on your device that you want to keep, save them to your camera roll by opening your photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.
Go to icloud.com on your computer, sign into your iCloud account and check to confirm that your data is all there.
Assuming your data is on icloud.com, go to Settings>iCloud on your device, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted.  This will only delete the account and your synced data from your device but not from iCloud.  Your data will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.
Go to Settings>iCloud, sign back in with the correct iCloud ID and password and turn your iCloud data syncing preferences back on.  This will sync your iCoud data back to your device and recreate your iCloud email account.
Try your Mail again and see if it works properly now.

    Hello,
    There may be configuration problem.
I suggest you run the cmdlet “ get-receiveconnector | fl to check authentication and permission groups on client frontend receive connector.

  • IMAP Error - All attachments showing as MIME - can't open

I am using IMAP with VPN to access our cos email server on an iPhone 3G.
Everything looks good and appears to be working well -- one weird thing is happening and one error.
    1. Every message is showing an attachment (i.e., paperclip) - when I scroll down in the message it shows a gray box with MIME written on it. Why would every message have an attachment? This is annoying but not a deal killer.
    2. In messages that I know have an attachment (PDF, Word, etc.) - it also shows the gray box at the bottom with MIME written on it. I can't open the gray box or see the attachment in any way. This is more than annoying - it is problematic as I need to be able to see/review attachments to my emails.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've done a lot of searching and can't seem to find anything. Our email server is an Exchange 2003 server.
    Thanks!
    Douglas

I'm having the same issue, but only with ical attachments, which is very strange.

  • IMAP error in Outlook 2010

    Hi,
I have been having a persistent Outlook error connected to my Gmail IMAP account. A separate POP3 account in Outlook works fine, and the SMTP server portion (outgoing mail) works. But the incoming IMAP server does not sync and has not responded to any fixes,
    updates, or investigation.
Does anybody have any idea what might be the problem? It appears to have originated on Friday night after a routine Microsoft update.
    Thanks,
    JP

    Hi,
Here are several steps we can try on this issue.
Repair the Outlook Data File. If the Outlook Data File is corrupted, sometimes it may cause the sync issue:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227
Disable the firewall and anti-virus program, test if Outlook will sync properly again. If there's no issue when they are disabled, go to check if there are any settings may cause the sync issue.
You can also create a new profile to setup the account, test if the issue persists:

  • IMAP Error File Size Too Big

Have Outlook Office (on Windows 8.) synchronized with four mail addresses; work, etc.
No problems for six months, and then this past week, I started randomly receiving error message (see below).  I have checked the address files sizes and they are each unlimited?
My old mail files are compressed and archived to my PC once a month.
Any suggestions other than removing Outlook and taking a change of losing my calendar, mail, and contacts?

MESSAGE: Microsoft Outlook "Your IMAP server wants to alert you to the following: Email is too large, limit size to less than 20MB.

    Hi,
If an email in your mailbox is larger than 20 MB, you may get this error message.
You'll need to delete the large email or move it to local pst-file to resolve this issue.
If you cannot find the message, you can follow the steps below to find it:
    1. In Outlook, press Ctrl+Shift+F to open the
    Advanced Find dialog.
    2.
In Advanced Find dialog, click Browse, and check all the folders (and subfolders) in the
    email account. Click OK.
    3. Under the More Choices tab, click the check box labeled "Only items with one or more attachments".
    4. Click
    Find Now button.
    5. In the searching result list, click Size column to sort the results by email size.
    6. Find the large email and delete it, and then delete it from trash.
    Hope this helps.

  • IMAP errors

    Hello
I am having some issues with my email server. Things get so out of whack that i have had to stop and restart messaging services three times in the past week. we have around 8 thousand users on this machine, but not all of them are very active.
    here's the version:
    bash-2.03$ ./imsimta version
iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 HotFix 2.04 (built Feb 8 2005)
    libimta.so 5.2 HotFix 2.04 (built 03:57:18, Feb 8 2005)
    SunOS stewie 5.8 Generic_117350-28 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-880
    and here are some errors
MailException: type=9 (EXCEPTION_InvalidEnvelopeIndex), description: Invalid message index for folder INBOX. start/end is 4/4 when message array size is 4
MailException: type=9 (EXCEPTION_InvalidEnvelopeIndex), description: Invalid message index for folder INBOX. start/end is 4/4 when message array size is 4
MailException: type=9 (EXCEPTION_InvalidEnvelopeIndex), description: Invalid message index for folder INBOX. start/end is 135/135 when message array size is 130
MailException: type=9 (EXCEPTION_InvalidEnvelopeIndex), description: Invalid message index for folder INBOX. start/end is 80/80 when message array size is 0
These errors are not being thrown in the mail.log of my email server but rather a portal application that has a built-in email client that connects to the email server (imap and smtp). The portal is Luminis III.1 if anyone here is familiar with that.
basically we have some serious performance issues after the services have been up for a few days. The only fix has been to stop and start services. once i stop services i always have to kill off a few tcp_smtp_server and/or job_controller processes by hand. services take 3-5 minutes to stop, but start almost immediately. imsbackup takes days to run. however even if i stop imsbackup, the problems still exist.
These problems started on 9/26. we had a problem on that day with this machine where it had a very fast hard reboot. it happened so fast that nothing was logged, all messages were sent to the console and of course we weren't prepared to capture that output. we do have a laptop connected and recording console output now, but naturally we havent had that problem again.
my question is, could the imap store be corrupted, or do i have some other problem? if it was corrupted during that crash, which seems likely, could re-hashing the store help at all?
    Thanks for any input
    Brad

    Hi Jay,
I have looked in the imap file
    in server5/msg-server/log/imap and I'm notseeing
    any
    errors at all.
I'd actually expect to see these in the "default"
log, not in the imap log.The poster is seeing errors within their portal application which uses IMAP to read the emails, so if there was an issue which the portal was reporting then its fair to assume that the imap log would be where the errors were assuming the IMAP daemon noticed anything. The default log is a good call though for other store related errors (expiry of messages and what-not).
From what you wrote it sounds like I can run the
reconstruct command with services running. Do I
    need
to stop the imsbackup process before I run this?reconstruct -r is disk intensive, and is also
    database intensive.
    imsbackup is database intensive.
How long does your imsbackup run? Personally, I
would wait for imsbackup to complete, or stop it. No
need to stop the server, though."imsbackup takes days to run" ... better to reconstruct now and live with the potential slowdown in access. Also if the imsbackup is running so slow, chances are it is not consuming too many resources.
    Shane.

  • IMAP error:  failed: Constraint violation

    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-1.04 (built May 9 2007; 32bit)
Has anyone seen these errors in their IMAP log?
I have seen several periods where these crop up combined with an inability for user to login via imap or http.
Logically something is happening at the DS end of things to cause this though I have yet to pinpoint it and b/c the directory logs do not show any clear
evidence of bind failures that correspond to the imap log entries it has me puzzled.
[25/Aug/2007:04:02:11 -0700] mina imapd[8231]: Account Warning: [128.111.207.54:34317] ldap bind (uid=help,ou=People,o=education.ucsb.edu) failed: Constraint violation

    Thanks Shane

When do these periods occur (busy times etc.) and for
how long? Oddly, I saw this happen for an hour starting at 3AM (not a busy time with my users) Logs show another single user occasion happening in the PM at 16:00, but only for a few minutes.
    >
Do you have to change anything (e.g. restart IMAP/DS
server, reset passwords) to get things to work
again? In the case of the hr long event I first restarted the DS which did not appear to fix the problem. I then restarted the msg-instance. The problem did not immediately clear up but did so shortly after.
Are all users affected for a period of time or just
some users. Any pattern? In the case of the long event I tested a variety of logins, which failed, and the logs showed that a variety of users could not login. There did not seem to be a pattern and as far as ican see all users were failing to login.

Do the LDAP logs show any bind attempt or any
communication at all related to the user(s) in
question. Are there any errors in the LDAP error
log(s)?I have not been able to definetevely correlate any errors in the LDAP logs at the time. However as far as I could see (with my account) I was binding OK at the time ( eg err=0) though I was not authing per the msg serv.

What version of DS are you running and do you use SSL
between the MS server and DS server?5.2 sp2, No SSL is used between the DS and msg-serv

Are you running any kind of load-balancer/directory
proxy etc. between messaging server and the directory
    server?NO

Are you using account lockout/password expiry?YES, a lockout after 6 failed tries.
    >
Do you see any err=49 or err=19 log lines around the
trouble periods?Yes, I see err=19 for the whole hr period in question as well as some err=49, though I do also see err=49 for other times but no err=19 at other times.
    >
    >>
There haven't been any reported cases of this
particular error in the IMAP logs but most constraint
violation problems revolve around either SSL issues
or account lockout problems. So more investigation
needed at your end.Ok I will log all this info and am logically thinking that if this IS an account lockout issue it seems to point to an automated DS attack of some sort ?

  • Disable IMAP Error Mail

Since connecting our new ERP to out Exchange 2010 Server our users are getting the following Mail from time to time.
"The name of one or more of your folders includes the character "/" or more than 250 characters. Folders with names that include this character can't be downloaded to your IMAP e-mail program. Please rename these folders:"
Since our users won't change their folder names, we'd like to suppress the mail being sent.
So - is there a way to turn it off?

Yes, I've seen this too, before. Doesn't help me, since this is not a Blackberry related problem, but an Exchange related one. I think that the statement, that the server is not sending the mail, is wrong.
The only other thing that I could find about it was
    this
Why do I get an error when downloading my folders in Outlook Express using IMAP?
IMAP doesn't let you view / subscribe to folders with a "/" in them or if they are more than 250 characters.
Exchange 2007 doesn't inform you of the issue whist Exchange Server 2010 tell you there is a problem.
So that makes me assume the message is in fact send by the Exchange, although "sender" is displayed as "Microsoft Outlook".

  • IMAP Error Message

I continually receive the following: Your IMAP server wants to alert you to the following: Message too large.

    Hi,
When did you get this error message? When you try to send a message or when you launch your Outlook?
We may get the error message when one email message is greater than 20 megabytes (MB) in total. We can try to find out that email and move it to a local or archive folder. For detailed steps, please refer to the "Most
    Helpful Reply" in this thread:

Or, we can just change the maximum size limit, see:

    Hope this helps.

  • Mail Throws IMAP Error When Accessing POP Server @ Gmail

This is my first day with my new iMac and I must say that the most frustrating experience so far has been using Mail v 4.3
I have several accounts, and never had a problem until now. In the setup, it assumes incorrectly that my Gmail account is IMAP, which is isn't... and never will be considering I don't need that redundant files on a server nonsense for my personal mail.... so after it discovers there is no IMAP connection on my Gmail and it fusses about it, I switch the setting to POP.
Then when I try to download some e-mails later, it throws the following error: "Mail can't verify the identity of pop.gmail.com" ...because when you check the certificate error, you see it is querying imap.gmail.com instead of pop.gmail.com and hence getting a mismatch on the security certificate.
So I can't download Gmail emails at all for the moment.
I took a screen shot of the error message because I don't want some tech dude telling me I am imagining things or set it wrong.
Other than giving up and agreeing with Mail that I should be using IMAP, I'm stuck.

    Ernie,
I have already tried this. But I did it now, strictly following your suggestion. Here's what happens:
After the first screen of account setup, Mail offers for Incoming mail server imap.gmail.com, which I duly change to pop.gmail.com.
In the next screen I manually add the "@gmail.com" part of the address to the User Name field. Then click 'Create'.
A looooooong wait later I can click on Create twice again and it's done, supposedly.
But then, it fails to get anything from Google. The particular account shows up in Mail main window as a spinning gear forever, before giving up with no email downloaded. The account ends up showing in grey in the list of accounts, with the tilde ~ next to it.
This has happened many times, like I said.
    Really frustrating.

  • Mail setup can't connect to server. IMAP error?

I'm trying to setup Mail. I get the error message "Logging in to the q.com IMAP server "mail.q.com" failed." Same error for gmail. The user name and password are correct - I went to the website and can log in. What is the problem? I've setup Mail on other computers without problem. The auto-setup doesn't give any options for troubleshooting.

I have the same problem, It's been two days. I'm curios is it something with goole removing labs... cause everything is fine with yahoo, I don't change anything in mail.app and everything is fine until the last two days...

  • Outlook 2010 IMAP error 0x800cccdd and Timeout

    Dear all, need your help,
Users in branch office reported error popped up in Outlook 2010:
Your IMAP Server closed the connection.
Clicked the detail and the following are shown:
    Timeout
    Protocol: IMAP
    Server: xxx.xxx.xxx
    Port: 143
    Error Code: 0x800CCCDD
We have tried replacing user profiles, disable automatic send/receive for IMAP, run scanpst.exe to repair the PST files but none worked.
In our Exchange 2007 server (SP3 RU11), we found warnings in IMAP services:
An IMAP client has specified a literal whose value (132192474) is larger than the configured maximum of 52428800.
User: <one of the user name>
Client IP address: <branch office IP>
We are not sure if these 2 are related.  Please advice.

    Dear all,
I have retrieve the logs from one of the users that has this pop up.
At end of the IMAP log, I found the following:

IMAP: 13:52:48 [rx] + IDLE accepted, awaiting DONE command.

IMAP: 14:02:45 [db] ERROR: "Your IMAP server closed the connection.", hr=0x800CCCDD
    In those successful case:

IMAP: 13:52:07 [rx] 4u0o OK LOGOUT completed.

    IMAP: 13:52:07 [db] OnNotify: asOld = 5, asNew = 0, ae = 5
I noticed that in the " + IDLE accepted, awaiting DONE command.", successful case will have a [tx] DONE, but not so for those error case.
Any idea how this could happen?  I though it is Outlook to send out the DONE as it is a [tx].
    Please advise.
