Imbedded link to downloadable .PDF file not working in Safari

Two questions:
I imbedded a text link that is supposed to download a .PDF file from my iDisk. However, when I click the text link from my Safari browser I get this error message:
"“A network error occurred while accessing this document on the Internet. Would you like to close the document or reload it?”
When I retry by pasting my iWeb published page into Mozilla, the linked file downloads quickly with no problem. However, when I paste it into Internet Explorer's browser, it takes about 4 minutes to download!
Second question: I can't seem to link an image that I inserted on a "My Photos" template page. There is no way to select the image--when I do, it just shows the "blue box" around the image but it doesn't actually select the image itself so I can link it.
I was able to link images in my .Mac pages so I don't know why I can't on iWeb.
If anyone wants to try it, here is the link to that page. ONLY CLICK ON THE BERMUDA AMEX TRAVEL PLANNER TEXT as that is the only link I've imbedded thus far. This page is obviously still under construction.

This is correct, you cannot make the image holders hyperlinks. The solution is to put a Shape over the top of the image that you want to be a link, then Opn Inspector, Graphic Link and make the Opacity 1%, no more no less. Then make this shape a link. Beware that this image will still display in a slideshow and if you insert more images and it moves, the shape will not move with it.
You may also want to click on the shape and then go Arrange > Bring to Front.

    Hi,
Are you trying to open a portfolio or a pdf with attachments on Adobe Reader on Android or a pdf file with links(in form of text) to other pdfs? Would it be possible for you to share the pdf with us at [email protected] so that we may investigate?

  • Links to embedded pdf files not working in iOS reader

I have created a pdf document that links to a variety of embedded pdf files.
When I open this file in the iOS reader on my iPad 3, the links are not active. All of the embedded files are listed in the attachments list, but the links themselves do not launch the attachments.
    Please help!
    Thank you

We only support internal and http links in the current reader, not including links to attachments. However, PDF attachments should be open-able using the attachments button (bottom right). It should also work for password protected documents. If it does not, please share a sample file with us at [email protected] so we can investigate.
    Thanks!

  • Hyperlinks to pdf files not working when project is exported out as SWF and uploaded to server

    hI all
I'm using CS5 and i have hyperlinks to pdf files in my indesign project. However when i export to SWF, although the links work locally, they do not work when i upload all the relevant folders and files and test it from a server the links to the pdfs can not be found, the error messages indicates its looking for the files on my hard drive. I have also noticed that if i copy all the relevant folders and files and exported swf to a different directory and then launch swf from there the links do not work there either.
Other than seperately uploading each pdf indvidually on to the server and then creating a hyperlink to it from the local indesign project i don't know what else to do.
    Any advice much appreciated.

I have your same problem, but didn't consider uploading the PDFs and then linking to them. I'm willing to try it. Let me know if you ever found a better way, ok?
    Thanks.

  • PDF files not showing in Safari Windows

When clicking on a link to a pdf file (example: <a href = 'xxx.pdf'>
    I get a blank window.
Have Acrobat Pro, latest version installed.
Is there a special process to install it in Safari? (Windows)
Note: there is a Plugins folder in the Safari app folder, but inside it there iare only two Java plugins.
Maybe the reader is not installed in Safari, if not, how would I install the reader for Safari Windows only?

Make sure you have followed the directions below copied from this article....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4227
    Syncing and saving PDFs
To add PDFs to your iTunes library on your computer, simply drag and drop the PDF into your iTunes Book library.
To sync a PDF to iBooks on your device:
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in the Devices list on the left in iTunes 10.1 or later.
Click the Books tab in the resulting window.
Ensure that the Sync Books checkbox is enabled.
If iTunes is set to only sync selected books, be sure to enable the checkbox next to the PDF you want to sync.
    Click Sync.

  • Cannot download PDF files from Internet with Safari.

What must I do (after resetting Safari) to be able to coherently download PDF files from the Internet

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • All of a sudden certain sites will not download pdf files; they work fine on Internet Explorer

This started happening a few months ago; I have two W7 laptops and same problem on both; Thoughts?

Firefox has a setting for what to do with PDFs. The options include displaying it in a Firefox tab using a built-in viewer or the Adobe PDF viewer, or opening it using an external application such as Adobe Reader, or just saving the file. It sounds like you may want to experiment with that setting. This article will get you started: [[View PDF files in Firefox without downloading them]].
The settings file that stores those choices sometimes becomes corrupted. In that case, the standard medicine is to remove the file and have Firefox generate a new one with default settings. If you find that Firefox ignores your selections in Options, then here is how you would do that:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
    * (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
Start Firefox back up again. If desired, using the History menu to Restore Previous Session so you can pick up where you left off.
By default, PDFs should now display in the built-in viewer. Does it work?

  • Search in saved preview .pdf files not working any more

When I download a .pdf file from the internet and open it in preview, the search command works ok. When this same file is saved to disk and opened again, search is not working any more. Is this a bug, or my fault. Regards Rolf

    Hi,
    I hope this helps...
A while back we have more than one browser running on our PC (IE, Firefox, Chrome) and we messed by how Acrobat views documents over the web.
I think that this has some relevance here, as around this time LC also started falling over previewing forms.
Now if we open LC and Acrobat is not running, the "Preview PDF" is not present or accessible. So now we fire up Acrobat before we open a form in LC Designer and the preview tab is there and functioning.
Not much of a workaround; but I am hoping that someone will have a better one!!!
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • Hyperlinks to pdf file not working

I hope someone will be able to help me. I have been using PDF
converter online for awhile now and on some of my websites. I know
how to use hyperlinks (I am a webdesiger). All of a sudden, my
hyperlinks are not working on any NEW ones I create. I click on the
link on the website and it comes up with Error 404, Page not found.
I am using regular word documents.
The support team keeps instructing me on how to set up
hyperlinks - I know how to do that.
Is anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks!

I am a new user to OnLINE Adobe. My hyperlinks from Word

  • MS Word 2010 to PDF, links to other PDF's not working

I've go a Word .docx in which I've created hyperlinks to existing PDF's. The hyperlinks work within the .docx.
When I save to PDF and attempt the hyperlink I get the following message... "This document is trying to connect to:" and it lists the hyperlink in not exactly how I specified it. Even if I click "Remember this action" and Allow the hyperlink does not work
The hyperlinks in the TOC work... and links to emails or websites work... just not the ones to the PDF's
    Thoughts?
    Thanks
    Mike

Adobe Reader 10.1.2 cannot convert DOC files to PDFs. You will need Adobe Acrobat to do this.
Save As > Adobe PDF feature is using Microsoft's PDF converter. You may need to follow up with them regarding the same.

  • Full Text Search in PDF file Not Working in SQL Server 2012

OS: Windows Server 2012 @ Azure
DB: SQL Server 2012 SP 1 with Cum Update 6
Filter: OfficeFilter installed, PDFFilter64 11 installed (actually I tried 9 too)
I have done the following steps:-
    1. Configure SQL Server Instance to enable FILESTREAM for Transaction-SQL Access (IO Access and Allow Remote Client Access to FileStream data) and restart the instance service.
    2. Set Stream Access Level to Full Access and
    3. Create Database with file stream folder and set the created database Properties.Options: FileStreamDirectorName = fileContainer and FileStream Non-Transaction Access = Full.
    4. Create a FileTable with file director
    5. Execute the following scripts to ensure all installed components working. PDF is listed as one of the supported filter.
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service @action='load_os_resources', @value=1;
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'verify_signature', 0 -- don't verify signatures
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'update_languages'; -- update language list
    EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'restart_all_fdhosts';
    EXEC sp_help_fulltext_system_components 'filter'
    reconfigure with override
    6. Copy a few PPTX, DOCX, PDF file into the file director.
    7. Search the data by following command. I can PPTX and DOCX files can return right result but PDF is not returned although it contains the searching contents.
    SELECT *
    FROM dbo.Course
    WHERE CONTAINS(file_stream, 'Counsellor');

Are you seeing any errors in the SQL Server Error Log, the Windows Application or System logs?  How about in the Full-text crawl logging?
Troubleshooting Errors in a Full-Text Population (Crawl)
If your server has a mix of multi-threaded iFilters and single-threaded iFilters, this can cause serious problems with building the full text index.  (How do I know this?  Well, let's just say that I have suffered as well. And I was shocked!)
The efficiency was greatly increased by this article:
Troubleshooting: Slow Full-Text Indexing Performance Due to Filtering Process
This means changing the threading model for the multi-threaded (e.g. Microsoft Office) filters to be Apartment Threaded.  Or perhaps if you are full text indexing PDF files, abandoning the free single-threaded Adobe IFilter and purchasing the FoxIt
(or some other) multi-threaded PDF iFilter would benefit you.

  • Opening PDF Files Not Working Sporadically

I inherited a VB.Net Windows application. It uses MDI Parent and MDI Child forms. Two of the child forms have viewers that open PDF files. In both cases the child forms are launched and the PDF file opened when the user selects a menu item. My application has references to four Adobe dlls, AcroPDF.dll, adodb.dll, AxInterop.AcroPDFLib.dll, and Interop.AcroPDFLib.dll. In both cases when the menu item for the desired document is selected (this raises a button click event) a very simple line of code " AxAcroPDF1.src = [path]\ [name of PDF file] " is executed. When executed from a CD, the application works fine on the development machine and on some user workstations, but on at least one workstation when the user selects the menu item that open the PDF file they get an unhandled exception error. The error message is quite lengthy, so I will only include excerpts. "0x8000405 Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component" is the meat of the error message.
The user's machine on which the error occurs has Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Distiller, as does another user workstation on which the application runs fine. Windows Vista is the standard, so I do not believe it is being affected by the version of Windows. All of our workstations are supposed to be imaged using the same master; however individual users can have other software installed as needed. We do have some stringent security requirements and they vary depending on the network the particular user is on. I do not think this would have any affect on a standalone Windows application running from a CD, however I am not certain that is the case.
Any answers, suggestions, thoughts, etc. on why this error would occur on some machines but not others will be greatly appreciated. There is so much on the net that my Google searches return it is difficult to filter through all of it. The error message in question can apparently be generated many ways and so far I have not found anything that is specific to the error occurring when attempting to open a PDF file within a Windows application.

The user's workstation on which the application throws an error has Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro as does one of the other workstations on which the application runs correctly. I verified this with the user, so we can eliminate the version of the software as being the culprit. Please express any thoughts or ask any questions you feel are pertinent. I would like to get to the bottom of this and will gladly do whatever will help other posters help me. Thanks.
