  • HP Monitor going to sleep on start up

Ok, I've dealt with this problem long enough. I have an HP pavilion Elite, hpe 400f. Monitor worked great on it, then one night while I was checking my email, the picture went scrabled, and ever since I am faced with a "Monitor Going to sleep" error on start up. I can not get into my settings or do anything.
It does not work on other working monitors, I tried a whole new set of cables and when that did not help, I went and bought a new graphics card. That did no good either. But I can not install the drivers until I can actually see how to do it.
So what now? Nothing HP told me works. I am about to go crazy with this.  I've begged HP to help me for a year off and on to no prevail.
    Can you PLEASE help me?

  • Sleep or Start up?

Hello. I wanted to ask the question of whether it is better on an everyday basis to put your computer to sleep, or to shut down and start up every morning. I know there are differing views, but what are some of the positives and negatives on both sides? Thank you!

You mean I'm the only one seeing this problem? Guess I'll call today for a RMA.

  • Screen distorted after sleeping or start up

When I wake my computer up from sleep the screen  used to, at times, be distorted in that the words would be widened.  I would put it back to sleep and usually it would fix itself but not always.  Sometimes I would have to restart it or completely shut it down but as of today I can't get the distortion to go away.  It started doing this within the first year I bought my laptop; I've had it about 27 mo. now.  Could someone tell me what I need to do to fix this annoying problem?

    Hello,
    1. as advised above make sure you have latest bios installed with your unit (F.29 for 1/2015)
    2. check your VGA driver and if you have newer than in hp.com go back to HP driver (sp56458)
    3. your unit use VGA chip in AMD cpu and shared memory. Try to move your 4gb memory module to second memory slot and test
If none above will help you can backup your personal data and do factory reset = recover your SW image to factory SW installation (F11 when system starts)
If none above then you have hardware issue and your unit need HW troubleshooting. There might be memory, CPU or mainboard issues. Please contact HP service for more help.

  • HP p6040d monitor going to sleep when starting

Hi our desktop does not start anymore. Everytime I turn it on, monitor says "no signal", and goes to sleep.
My sister suggested me to check the cables. I reconnect all the cables, and it turned on successfully. The next day, when we turn the pc on, it does the "no signal" again and goes to sleep. I checked the cables again, but this time it does not work.
I don't have another monitor to check if this is a monitor/cpu issue.
By the way, the last 2-3 times I turn it on the cpu beeps(long beeps, for about 2 seconds each) multiple times.
What are your suggestions? Buy a new vga cord?
This pc is not that old, it's just 4-5 years old.

    Any suggestions?

  • MacBook goes dark on/off, sleep light starts to fade in and out...

I have started experiencing this issue where the macbook will go to sleep in the middle of me doing something. I am not tilted, the istat shows the temps and fan ok. Usually clicking on the keyboard (space bar) awakens it. Same behavior continues once battery has been removed and macbook is running off the power adapter. Below are the spec and a screen shot of the stats with the battery removed, running on AC. I have searched google and threads but could quite find the same scenario as this. Recently it has started to give me problems. When I power up or restart the screen goes black after the chime and apple logo - it remains like this although you can hear the drive and fans working, but when i close the lid and then reopen the book the screen comes on. When i close the lid the light glows indicating that the mac is in sleep mode?
I have reset the NVRAM / SMC and also opened the mac and cleaned/checked connections.

My Powerbook G4 won't start up. It gets to the screen where the blue bar starts filling across. It gets usually less than half way and then goes to sleep.
The only way to get any response is to disconnect all power and then start over again. I have tried resetting things by holding down various keys and starting up- all of the different variations that are on the different support pages, but I always get the same result.
    Please help.

  • When does "Display sleep" time start?

I've set my "display sleep" to anywhere from a couple minutes to over an hour. The problem is that the screen dims while I'm using the computer. Specifically, I'm usually playing online poker.
    My question is:
When my Display Sleep is set to, e.g. 15 minutes, when does that 15 minutes start?
It's obviously not starting when I click the mouse because I'm doing that a lot.
I type on the keyboard once in a while. Does that start the clock?
Okay, that's my only guess. Thanks for any help.
    Bruce

I have an interesting related problem...I am running an IMac with a Thunderbolt display second monitor.  When the iMac dims prior to going to sleep, the Thunderbolt display does not dim with it.  Only when the iMac monitor actually goes to sleep, does the Thunderbolt monitor go to sleep with it.  It makes no difference if I make the primary monitor the Thunderbolt Display or the iMac's Display, either way only the iMac dims.  I would like both of them to dim together since it helps to keep the Thunderbolt display's life longer and it saves energy.  I am at a loss as to how to make it work.  Is there a bug?  I am runniing the latest version of Lion, and I have the lastest version of the iMac, which I just purchased in  July.

  • My Outlook prompts for password every time it comes back from sleep or started

I've Microsot Outlook for MAC 2011, version 14.4.1 installed on my MAC Book Pro Retina Display with OS X Version 10.9.2 and everytime my outlook comes back from sleep or is started or there is a little fluctuation in Wifi signals, prompts me for my email password. I checked the option of save my passord, deleted all previous passwords from Keychain but it doesn't works, so please help. My email at my official domain (not free domains) address is configured perfectly and my send and received is working fine.

I have that problem in Outlook, too. When I get the Yes/No dialog box, I simply click "No" and my machine continues to receive mail.
It's most certainly a pain, but coming out of sleep, your network doesn't kick in for a minute or two. I don't think that it's really a bug in either OS X or Outlook: it just takes that minute or so for the network to wake up.

  • Sleep problem, takes awhile to go to sleep, then starts up again??

Hi, when I put it to sleep, it takes awhile for the screen to go black, then I hear the click of it turning back on ... hope someone knows what's going on, I've tried unplugging it, it didn't work. Thanks very much.

    Hi Barry,
Here's what I found, I don't know what it says though, does it make any sense to you?

  • Qestion: my mac book shuts during my pauses while using keyboard.. first warns with drop down box (restart sleep cancel start).. if i don't hit cancel immediately it shuts down.. any help?

Question: My computer shuts down while I am pausing briefly during use.. first display drop down box "RESTART, SLEEP, CANCEL, SHUTDOWN" warns me of shutdown coming.. If I do not hit cancel immediately, computer shuts down and I have to employ start up procedure each time.. very annoying.. I must admit that I am a novice user and suspect that there is some simple setting that I am overlooking.. however, I have gone through all the relevant settings in Apple System Preferences and cannot connect with one that solves this problem.. Any help greatly appreciated

I think it's time to buy a new battery

  • IMac goes to sleep after start up

    Hi,
I've got a 2011, 21.5" iMac. I've had a few screen problems with it, and it's had two replacements now.
The first problem was a screen burn, or some cloudy patch behind the screen, so I got the screen replaced at the Apple Store under the warranty. The new screen worked fine for about a week, then wouldn't turn on, so I took it back, and they replaced the screen again, as well as the baclight board. This seems to have (for now) solved the problem. It's been about a week since I got my iMac back, and it's screen is now going to sleep when it starts up. So, it boots up, with the Apple logo, then the screen shuts off and it goes to sleep. I have to press the power button to get it back on. I've also noticed this only happens when I boot it up at the start of the day, so if I were to restart it now, it won't do it.
I've tried resetting the PRAM and stuff, but it's not made a difference... Does anyone know what the problem could be, or has anyone had this issue?
    Thanks

    Hi Sam,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
    Reboot, test again.

  • WiFi issue when resuming from sleep or start up

Just got a new Lenoco U410 which has the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 wifi card in it. Right out of the box it had a hard time joining the wireless network. After a few minutes of reboots and going to Intel's site on another PC and downloading newer drivers, I got it to connect. Speed wasn't as robust as I'd expect on new hardware - my 5 year old Dell was TX'ing at higher speeds. But it was working and not too bad either.
Problem that I see happening is if the laptop sleeps or shutsdown and then powers up, the wifi doesn't have Internet connectivity - only has limited access. So it is authenticating (WPA2) and I can see my LAN, just no WWW access.
IPCONFIG shows valid IPs for the PC, gateway, DNS, etc.
My Dell sitting right next to it works fine - never hiccups.
    4-5 bars of signal strength
    Tried release/renew  - no affect
Here's the intersting part: I run the Windows problem diagnostic wizard and it fixes it everytime. It returns the error found as, "the default gateway is not available", and resets the card as the fix. IPCONFIG returned the correct gateway, and my Dell has no problem either. And, I can add to the list of devices that use the same network with an iPhone, an iPad, a Galaxy 10.1 tablet, and a Moterola Atrix phone. Ya, I'm a tech junkie. So why can't it find the gateway, or is this a false positive - be my guess.
The U410 once woken stays up on the WLAN once connected, never losing the connection. It's only when turned back on either from a shut down or a sleep. I googled around and the only "fix" people posted was to turn off the Windows power management of the card, which I did do. I also did update the Intel driver which looks to be built just last month. Hoping that would have been the fix, but no.
Any thoughts anyone? Does Lenovo Support monitor and throw out suggestions (please keep it civil)? I don't want to return it, but might have to go back to Dell as I need another laptop as well. Holding off on the second one until (or if) I can get this issue fixed - not making the misses happy.
    Thanks in advance!

You mean I'm the only one seeing this problem? Guess I'll call today for a RMA.
