IMessage activation. The username or password was incorrect. Try again

It keeps telling me that and my password is correct I even changed it but still d same thing. It has been like that for almost a month. How can I make it work pls?

I know this is really late, probably won't help you, and might not even be related, but this is about the only Apple Discussions result for this specific error message. I'm using two-factor authentication and it turns out that recently, Apple started requiring app-specific passwords for Facetime and iMessage. You might not even realise that this is the case until you stop getting iMessages and try to fix it, only to start getting this error instead.

    I could do that, however when I select the icloud button (or whatever the heck it is) I am asked to enter the apple id and password. So if you are suppose to create another one for icloud you'd think it would give you the option at this point which would be logical.

    For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices. 
    That all works.
    It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
    I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

    1. Make sure software is up to date
    2. Make sure Messages is enabled; Settings>Messages
    3. Make sure Date and Time is correctly set; Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>On
    4. Make sure Push Notification is enabled
    5. Make sure phone number or email address is correct
    6. Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) until you see the Apple Logo

    You can not merge accounts.
    Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

    So I reset my Apple ID password. Which then stopped my MobileMe account from working. Hang on - these were 2 different accounts a while ago, with different passwords!!!
    So I have logged back in to MobileMe with my AppleID, and that's working again. After a short wait I can now create Home Sharing again.
    Folks, I think we have just had our Apple IDs merged with our MobileMe accounts!! With no consultation or warning.
    My guess is that this is the most seamless way for Apple to do it, as the vast majority of people use only one email address and one password for everything. Only those of us who had the same email adress but different a different passwords for MobileMe and Apple ID will have noticed. Annoying for us few, but a clever strategy on Apple's part, becasue we have been driven to fix the issue ourselves by chaning the password, and in doing so we have realised that our mobileme account is now the same thing as our Apple ID.

    I got it going again... What I did was recreate my iCloud "[email protected]" email address through the "advanced" method on the ipad.
    So, it was  Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > iCloud > Then went manual from there on out. (Didn't use the suggested email address and created my own.)
    I created a NEW me.com email address. Nobody had my old one, so it's just as well... This may not work for some people...

    Check capitalization. The password is certainly case-senstive, and your username/email address might be as well. In the case of the password, you must get it exactly right. In the case of the username/email address, you can usually enter it as all lower case. Also, try your username with the @gmail.com suffix; your username might not be accepted without it.

    Check your password at the webmail site for AOL - if the password is correct delete your email account on the iOS devices and re-enter the user name and password to rebuild the account.

    Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

    Everything works/worked fine but now it doesn't want to allow the autologon, it says "Username or password incorrect".
    Where is this autologon password stored? Note: I commented out the autologon in unattend.xml, have set the customsettings.ini, the customsettings.ini for specific server to correct logon info. Changed also the bootstrap.ini
    DomainAdmin=Administrator    
    DomainAdminDomain=ourdomain
    DomainAdminPassword=ourdomainpassword

    There are *multiple* levels of credentials used within MDT, don't get them confused.
    First there is the password for the *local* Administrator account: AdminPassword
    Secondly, there are the credentials used to connect to the Deployment Share over the network (if any): UserDomain\UserID USerPassword
    Finally, there are the credentials used to join the machine to a domain (if any):
    DomainAdminDOmain\DomainAdmin DomainAdminPassword
    These passwords/accounts can be different...
    What you are looking for to autologon is the AdminPassword value.

    If it is random that means there is another email client also accessing the server; perhaps your computer is set to automatically fetch mail. When a POP3 server has an open session and receives another open request it closes the session and sends an "incorrect password" message to both clients. This is a holdover from the time connections were unreliable and lost connections while a session was open were common. So the message is misleading; all it means is that another session was not closed properly.
