IMessage and FaceTime will not activate.

I have an iPhone 4S iOS 6.1.3 on Verizon. My iMessage and FaceTime will not activate.
I have wiped my phone multiple times trying both setting up as a new iPhone and restoring from back up.
I've also reset the settings and network settings.
Any help would be appreciated.

To activate you need to be able to send SMS and in some cases that is an international SMS.  The SMS is hidden and goes to a numbe rin the UK starting with +44.  Are you able to send international SMS?  Check with your carrier.  Read http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4268

My internet connection is fine, my username/new password have been entered correctly, my time/date are correct, I have the latest software installed, and I have turned it on and off again, yet the same problem keeps arising.

  • Hi I have an iPhone 4S and iMessage or FaceTime will not activate. Even if I switch it off and and switch back on. I get an SMS with the following kind of message. null5245472d524553503f763d333b723d34663866363832353b6e3d2b323534373030303036343 6333b733d30

Every time I try to activate face time or iMessage it return s with an SMS containing the following null5245472d524553503f763d333b723d34663866363832353b6e3d2b323534373030303036343 6333b733d30323532324143323037464646464646464633323034354630434242383838413032353 931433836453844354139343542334635303138303936
The numbers are different every time though. I have tried rebooting the iPhone using power and home button. Tried restoring it. Tried erase all content and settings
Tried reset all settings. Tried reset network settings. It was working flawlessly before the update. And also it works with my email address it just doesn't work with my phone number. I cannot understand the problem.  Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

DO you have a texting plan that provides for international SMS?
    ACTIVATING FACETIME AND IMESSAGES
Activating Facetime and Imessages on your phone requires the ability to send SMS messages and depending upon where you are that might be an international SMS.  Check with your carrier to see if your plan supports sending of international SMS messages.  If you are having trouble activating Facetime or Imessages turn them both off on your device and reset the device (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost)).  Wait for the device to restart and wait a minute and turnFacetime and imessage back on and wait for activation.  If that does not fix things read the following articles:

  • IMessage and Factime will not activate

Hey everyone, I have ran into an issue where my iPhone 4S cannot activate iMessage or FaceTime. My phone is not jail broken and I have tried almost everything I have read about on the Internet. Can anyone help me with this issue?? I moved to a community in northern Ontario when I don't have 3G service however it has worked for 6 months while I have been here and now all of a sudden just stopped working. Can I fix this issue with wifi only or do I need 3G service to fix this??

This should help.  WiFi should be sufficient - you should not need 3G as long as your telephone number still works.

  • IPhone 6 iMessage and FaceTime will not connect.

I just upgraded to the iPhone 6 from a 5 and now I can't use iMessage or FaceTime.  I checked all of the troubleshooting tips and actually went through all just to make sure it's not something I'm doing.  I still get a connection error on iMessage when I try to connect using my Apple ID and password.  The message I get is "Could Not Sign In.  Please check your network connection and try again".  This continues to happen for many hours.  I reset the network connection, made sure my phone number was in the right place on the phone, checked my credit card on the Apple ID, etc.  Nothing works.  Any help out there?

I have the same problem with my iPhone 6. It seems that my wifi connection will go down after using iMessage, Facetime or other apps. However if I go to settings to check my wifi connection, it shows connection, but there is no internet connection. I have tested my wifi connection with other devices, and they are running perfectly.
I think there is still a bug in the iOS 8.0.2 concerning the WiFi.

    Howdy eewebe13,
So you have no cellular service but are on Wi-Fi yet iMessage and Facetime are waiting for activation.
Please step through this article for that scenario.

    Hi Heva79!
You may want to try simply restarting your phone to see if you are able to get past that page after a restart. Instructions for doing this can be found here:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If you are still experiencing this issue after a restart, you may want to attempt the steps for a reset as outlined in that same article. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
