IMessage between iOS devices?

I understand that using iMessage between iOS handset devices shows the conversation in blue, while the text messaging is in green, but Apple mentioned this iMessage can be implemented onto other iOS devices like iMac, MacBook Air, etc.  Anyone know how/if you can put iMessage on those systems to allow for messaging to another iOS device?

There is currently no iMessage implementation for OS X devices. So, no.

According to Macworld it is a lowest common denominator situation. If any of the people on your list are not iMessage people then all the messages go out SMS and will count against your messages from your provider. Bummer IMHO, but that is the way it is.

  • Messages on the Mac (10.8.4) no longer syncs with iMessages sent between iOS devices

I've been running Messages on the Mac since the Beta, and I've always had messages sync to the Mac and all iOS devices. In the last week, the Mac no longer posts imessages... only messages sent from the Mac trigger the Messages app to start tracking the message thread.
I've got my iphone number and three emails in both the Messages preferences (using my Apple ID) and on all of the iOS devices. So I should be receiving messages to four addresses (one phone number and three emails). I did get a new iPhone 5 on Wednesday, but the issue started prior to loading the new phone with my backup.

Hi, Ralph. Thanks so much for taking the time to address my discussion. While your solution did not correct the problem, it did bring clarity that it's the Mac–not the iPhone or other iOS devices–that is the entity having trouble.
While going through your solution steps on the iPhone, I decided that I should probably take the same actions on my iPad (Wi-Fi Only). When I turned to the iPad, I realized that both the iPad and the iPhone have remained in sync with all messages: only the Mac has not been posting some iMessages.
So I did perform your solutions steps, but they did not have an effect on the Mac Messages. I then removed my Apple ID from Messages on the Mac, quit Messages, and Shut Down the Mac. After a few minutes, I started the Mac, launched Messages on the Mac, and activated an iMessage account using my Apple ID. No improvement on the Mac side was realized.
I think I have the issue better isolated to... Messages on the Mac was not accepting iMessages sent to or received from my telephone number. I've always had my Messages preference set to Start Messages from my Phone number (and again on my iPad and iPhone Settings), so I'm not sure what changed.
Once I triggered a new message on the Mac starting from my Phone number and being delivered to my Phone number, the Mac seems to have regained its knowledge of iMessages–originated from an iOS device using a phone number and being sent to a phone number–that should also be synced to Messages on the Mac. I'll keep an eye on it this week before closing this discussion.

  • Can I use IMessage between 2 devices on the same ITunes account?

I have2 IPads.  One is and IPad 2 the other is an IPad 3.  The 3 belongs to my daughter.  We have wondered if she could IMessage me from her IPad to me on my IPhone or IPad.

Yes you can. I use 4 devices that share an Apple ID and we can FaceTime and Message with all 4 of them. You do need to create additional email addresses for three of the devices. You can use the Apple ID email address as the contact at email address on one of the devices. Some people suggest creating a new ID and iCloud account for this purpose, but you can do it with existing email addresses as well.
This is quite helpful. Give it a look.

  • Does home sharing work between iOS devices

Or is it only from a mac or pc to an ios device.

    HI there,
Home Sharing in iTunes is designed to let you easily share your iTunes media libraries between up to five computers in your household. You can also use Home Sharing to play your iTunes content on your iOS devices and Apple TV (2nd generation) if they are connected to your home Wi-Fi network. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Syncing notes, highlights, and bookmarks between iOS devices

    Hi,
I've decided to digitize my technical library by purchasing ebooks from now on. The problem is which ebook format to go with. My ideal requirements would be to be able to purchase books from various sources and be able to read them both on my Mac and on iOS devices. Additionally, I want to be able to sync the highlights, bookmarks, and notes among all of these devices.
Currently, the real winner that satisfy all of these conditions is Amazon mobi format. The only problem is that I can only purchase books from Amazon if you go with this platform.
On the other hand, Apple iBooks is a close second here - the lack of a solution for a Mac is a problem, but I am hoping that Apple is working on the iBooks application for the Mac. The syncking of notes, highlights, and bookmarks among various iOS devices is a nice feature, and it does not require a tethered connection to iTunes - instead, these items they can now sync wirelessly among devices on the same iTunes account.
My question is if the syncing of notes, highlights, and bookmarks works only with ePub books purchased from the Apple's iBooks store or if this feature works with unprotected ePub books purchased elsewhere and loaded on iOS devices via the iTunes syncing feature. For example, most of the technical books I am going to be digitizing are Cisco books published by Cisco Press. As of late, most of their ebooks are available in the unprotected ePub format, and I would be using the iBooks app to read these books. So, if I were to purchase ebooks from Cisco Press, would I be able to to make a note in a book on one iOS device (e.g. iPad), and later see this note in the same book on my iPhone?
    Thanks!

This page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4059 says (I havn't tried it though) :
iBooks will automatically remember where you left off each time you close a book or return to your Home screen. Tap the bookmark icon in the upper-right corner to bookmark a specific page. Wirelessly sync your Bookmarks, Highlights, and Notes with your other devices using your iTunes Store account by tapping Settings > iBooks > Sync Bookmarks > ON.

  • Sync problems between iOS devices and iMac desktop

    Hi Folks,
I am having an odd prolem which has started to cause me some concerns with possible lost contacts.   I have been adding contacts normally using my iPhone especially when out and about.  Sometimes to make the typing a bit easier I have done it in a web browser into iCloud or on my desktop iMac.  All sounds normal right ?
Having been searching for some contacts I have suddenly been unable to find them, weird - I am sure I put that guy in there a few days ago.   Ok so look in the iPhone contacts and its there, look on the ipad and its there, but in the web access icould it not.   Stuff entered on the iphone or ipad do sync to ech other, but apparently somehow bypassing the web accessed icloud.
Dig a bit deeper and find that about 300 out of 3500 contacts are not in all places.
Contacts added on the iphone are in the ipad and vice versa, but they arent on the icloud web or in the iMac on my desk.
Has anybody got any ideas whats going on here ?  I do knwo that I often see at the foot of a contact in the iphone LINKED contacts that have all the same details.
Can somebody please xplain what all these different data sets are and how can I get them all merged into one set and have that data everywhere ??
    Any advice much appreciated
    Thank you !

    On the iMac open iCal.
From the menu bar click iCal > Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
Select iCloud on the left under Accounts.
Make sure:  Enable this account is selected
And select Push from the pop up menu next to:  Referesh Calendars
    Now reset your iOS devices.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • IBooks do not sync between iOS devices

I have used iBooks since '10 and it has worked up until the latest release fairly well. My problem is iBooks no longer syncs the last or furthest page read as it once did. Kindle does this without a problem but the iBooks application does not function.
Both iOS devices are signed in with the same Apple ID.
Example: I download a book on iBookstore to my iPad. I read the book to page twenty, exit to the home screen, then put the iPad to sleep. Later, I open the same book on the iPhone, and the book is still on page one. The page does not change to page twenty. I open iBooks on the iPad, and the page changes to page one (to match the iPhone).
I am continuously losing my place in the book. I contacted AppleCare and was told (paraphrasing) that there was nothing they could do since there is no sync button, everything is supposed to be done automatically.
Please advise if you have any advice here. I will not be purchasing any iBooks until the issue is resolved.
    Thanks!

I contacted AppleCare and was told the following...
The only time iBooks will sync is when pressing the Library button to close the book and return to the iBooks library.
    Press the Home button
Press the Home button and completely close the app (double-tap home button, swipe up on iBooks)
I have tried everything and they are sending an escalation to their engineers for an update. Until then, no news and nothing left to report.
I tested this same issue with Kindle and Google Books; Kindle syncs only the furthest page read, Google Books syncs the current page read (as iBooks is supposed to do), and it works reliably in both cases.
I'm guessing this is a bug in the iBooks app as I did not have this issue with iBooks since iPad 1 in 2010.

  • Sync problem through iTunes between iOS devices and iCal

This is a mess and has been troubling me for months. Please help!
    ***Devices:
    iPhone 5, iOS current
    iPad 1, iOS current
    MacBook Pro 10.7.current, iCal (2.8 ghz ICD2)
    ***Sync setup:
I have and have used a MobileMe account but made sure both iPhone and iPad were set for *no* calendar sync. There's no sync checkbox for Calendar sync with the MobileMe Systems Preferences (there was in earlier versions). For the sake of thoroughness I went into MobileMe via it's web interface and deleted each calendar (creating a "tossme" calendar with no events in it because Mme requires one calendar). I signed out / sign back in periodically because I was getting errors occasionally. The online Mme Calendar is completely empty as far as I can see.
After a sync (for backup) I unchecked the Info > Calendar box and agreed to delete all events on the iPhone and the iPad. That wiped off whatever was on the iPad and the iPhone. Then I re-checked all calendars for both devices, setting them to not sync events over 30 days. The calendars on both the iPhone and the iPad now had events from the iCal calendars on my MBkP. But the iPad and iPhone calendars *also* had a few events not on the MBkP: They had "New Event" from when I created an even not he iCal calendar and then renamed and / or changed the calendar for that even. They *also* had the blank and default New Event.
    ***Test events
I then went to each device in turn and created an event at 4 PM today in the default calendar called, respectively, from iPad, from iPhone, from MBkP ical. I then synced both the iPad and iPhone through iTunes as usual. What happened is *exactly* what's been happening for about 6 months. Here was what was on each device after a successful sync:
MBkPro: Only the "from MBkP iCal" event and no other of these test events.
iPhone: Four events: New Event, from MBkP iCal, from iPhone, from iPad
iPad: exactly the same events as the iPhone has.
I then deleted *all* of the four events *just* from the iPhone and synced these devices in this specific order: iPhone, iPad.
After the deletion inn the iPhone and the since I end up with this: Just the from MBkP iCal on all three devices.
    ***Conclusions:
    These devices sync but
--the MBkP *only one way*, that is *to* the iPhone and iPad, including (annoyingly) every iteration of an event instead of the final form of an event (hence every "new event"….)
--Both the iPad and iPhone sync all events back and forth amongst themselves and take as separate events every stage of any event *from* the MBkP iCal but nothing *to* the iCal on the MBkP. (This generates lots of other dups, by the way…I'm outlining the simplest case here.)
    ***Other stuff I've tried
Back when I could get iCal to sync calendars / events with Mme I using that as a conduit for sync between the three (i.e.: telling iTunes to ignore calendar syncing). And a bunch of other stuff. Same result.
I've examined lots of settings repeatedly. No change.
    ***What I want:
I'd like all three of these devices to
--sync as equals--each of them to sync their calendars / events back and forth (i.e.: the iCal on MBkP taking events from both the iPad and iPhone).
--Each of them to only have the most recently modified version of an event.
--ideally (but not as important) a copy of all these calendars and evens on the web-based MobileMe calendar (although I recall hearing that Apple is phasing out this function).
(Note that I rarely post here, please e-mail me at [email protected] if you comment here. Or does this system notify me automatically of any comments?)

    I'm having the same issue.
It started when I updated the iOS 7 on my Iphone 5 and my ipad mini and downloaded de iTunes 11.1.
Now I can't sync my playlists all at once or even in few selections of playlists, because it gets stucked on fourth step "waiting for changes to be applied" and after some minutes the sync simbol disappear on iphone and continues on iTunes, but it does nothing.
I also left an entire night to see if the problem was slowness to sync, but it did nothing, it really gets stucked. I've also tried a few different ways to sync (restart, reset, clean logs), but it doesn't work and it isn't allowing me to sync a couple of playlists in a row. Sometimes even a single playlist is not syncing.
I believe a new iTunes release it will be required

  • IMessage between iOS7 devices

Hi everyone. I've been trying to help out my parents for the last two hours with iMessage issues however I'm having no luck so I'm seeking assistance here.
I'll set the scene: Dad - iPhone 4 (device 1), Mum - iPad 3 wifi (device 2), me - iPhone 4S and iPad 3 wifi (devices 3 & 4). All devices have been updated to iOS7.0.2 (latest version at time of writing).
The problem: iMessage fails to work in one direction only, between devices 1 & 2, messages sent from device 1 state that they are delivered but never arrive, however messages from device 2 are sent and received with no problems.
Devices 3 & 4 have simply been used to test further:
Device 1 sends and receives from both of these and vice versa.
Device 2 sends and receives from both of these and vice versa.
So I'm really struggling to find the issue. I've signed devices 1 & 2 out of iMessage, hard reset, then signed in - no change.
One observation I did make was if I went to type a new message from device 1 to 2 for a brief moment the email address I selected went green and then blue, could be a red herring?
Could anyone suggest which device is failing here as I can't work it out together with any suggestions (shy of factory resets).
I'm tech savvy but this has beaten me for tonight!
    Thanks MJ

There is currently no iMessage implementation for OS X devices. So, no.

  • Copy folders or homepage shortcuts between iOS devices

I want to copy a folder of webpage shortcuts on the Home Screen that I have made from my iPod Touch to my new iPhone. It doesn't seem to be possible!
Drag and Drop from the screen arrangement page onto the other device would seem the obvious way to do it.
I have a folder of 12 shortcuts to the national rail departure boards for the various journeys I make. I want to save time not having to recreate the shortcuts again on my iPhone.

    Lyssa wrote:
The only way to do what you want is to create a backup of the iPhone and the restore the iPod touch from that backup.
    ~Lyssa
I think its the other way around ... the shortcuts are on the iPod and they want them on the iPhone.  Restoring an iPhone to an iPod Touch's backup is possible, but may be a problem if the iPhone already has setup/content that Touch does not.
Rather than transferring these shortcuts via restoring from a backup, one could select each shortcut one by one on the Touch and let Safari open the link, then share that link (tap the "Send To" icon) via AirDrop, iMessage, or email and then open and save the location from the iPhone.  Or if you have Safari activated in the iCloud account, if Safari is open on the Touch then the iPhone's Safari should show a cloud icon which if tapped would open the same page that is open on the Touch (but in my experience this is hit or miss).

  • Keyboard shortcuts do not sync between iOS devices

I use keyboard shortcuts a lot - mainly because im lazy but also because I have fat thumbs and tend to make lots of spelling mistakes. Prior to upgrading to iOS 8.1.1 I had the same problem reported elsewhere that my shortcuts kept disappearing but after the upgrade that no longer happens (touch wood). Now however I find that if I add a new shortcut to my iPhone 4s, it doesn't get synced to my iPad mini. Both devices are running iOS 8.1.2 and both have iCloud drive enabled and signed in to the same Apple account. I've tried doing a hard reboot on both devices, signing out and back into iCloud. Not sure what else to try. Any ideas?

I contacted AppleCare and was told the following...
The only time iBooks will sync is when pressing the Library button to close the book and return to the iBooks library.

  • Music ratings sync between iOS devices

Hi. Is anyone aware of any possibility to sync song ratings between iphone and ipad without using itunes? I use both the devices to listen to songs and don't sync them to my PC often.

If I go to the My Account Settings (clicking on my name on the Home page of iCloud) the Apple ID indicates [email protected]
That is not my Apple ID (at  least as far as I am concerned!)
As I indicated, my iCloud email account in the iCloud web page only shows a few very old emails, none more recent than early August.
The iCloud control panel on my PC is the most current as of today.
    Keep the ideas coming.
So far, been there- done that on everything suggested   :-)
