IMessage between iOS7 devices

Hi everyone. I've been trying to help out my parents for the last two hours with iMessage issues however I'm having no luck so I'm seeking assistance here.
I'll set the scene: Dad - iPhone 4 (device 1), Mum - iPad 3 wifi (device 2), me - iPhone 4S and iPad 3 wifi (devices 3 & 4). All devices have been updated to iOS7.0.2 (latest version at time of writing).
The problem: iMessage fails to work in one direction only, between devices 1 & 2, messages sent from device 1 state that they are delivered but never arrive, however messages from device 2 are sent and received with no problems.
Devices 3 & 4 have simply been used to test further:
Device 1 sends and receives from both of these and vice versa.
Device 2 sends and receives from both of these and vice versa.
So I'm really struggling to find the issue. I've signed devices 1 & 2 out of iMessage, hard reset, then signed in - no change.
One observation I did make was if I went to type a new message from device 1 to 2 for a brief moment the email address I selected went green and then blue, could be a red herring?
Could anyone suggest which device is failing here as I can't work it out together with any suggestions (shy of factory resets).
I'm tech savvy but this has beaten me for tonight!
Thanks MJ

There is currently no iMessage implementation for OS X devices. So, no.

  • IMessage between iOS devices?

I understand that using iMessage between iOS handset devices shows the conversation in blue, while the text messaging is in green, but Apple mentioned this iMessage can be implemented onto other iOS devices like iMac, MacBook Air, etc.  Anyone know how/if you can put iMessage on those systems to allow for messaging to another iOS device?

  • IMessages problems between iOS7 devices and others ?

    Ho all again !
Another bug I seem to have noticed : Whenever I try sending an iMessage to anyone who's NOT on iOS7 from my iPhone, the message wont go. Either it will hang there on "sending", or will transform into a simple text message.
The same problem seems to occur the other way around. When a frien who's on iOS6 tries to send me a message via his 3GS iphone on iOS6, it will not be sent, and will be transformed into a regular text message.
Anyone know about this ? Or is it a misconfiguration somehow ? We've checked everyone's Apple ID, iCloud settings and everything should be rolling...

I have had a similar problem.  And, two things I've noticed.  One is that I can break it out and send as a text message.  Two is that when the person writes back to me after that, it cures the problem.
I think there have been problems with the way iMessage has been tracking who is a registered number.  For instance, I noticed that my Dad who was using iOS7 and iMessage was showing up green.  He and I have clearly imessaged before.  But, once he wrote me back I was able to use iMessage properly with him.  It was like the first time you text someone who has iMessage and the system doesn't know that they are registered.

  • Can I use IMessage between 2 devices on the same ITunes account?

I have2 IPads.  One is and IPad 2 the other is an IPad 3.  The 3 belongs to my daughter.  We have wondered if she could IMessage me from her IPad to me on my IPhone or IPad.

Yes you can. I use 4 devices that share an Apple ID and we can FaceTime and Message with all 4 of them. You do need to create additional email addresses for three of the devices. You can use the Apple ID email address as the contact at email address on one of the devices. Some people suggest creating a new ID and iCloud account for this purpose, but you can do it with existing email addresses as well.
This is quite helpful. Give it a look.

Can i set up my iPad and iPod to use iMessage between the two devices with the same Apple ID? SO i could iMessage if out from my iPod to my iPad at home to be viewed by a family member?

Look into using Apple Configurator.  It's the easiest way to "reimage" and Manage iPads that I know of right now.

According to Macworld it is a lowest common denominator situation. If any of the people on your list are not iMessage people then all the messages go out SMS and will count against your messages from your provider. Bummer IMHO, but that is the way it is.

  • IMessage on multiple devices with 1 Apple ID

    Hi all,
I previously had my iPhone 3GS and iPad 2 set up with 1x email under the 1 Apple ID.
I was able to test this by sending an iMessage to myself and it would then message to both my devices.
My wife now has my old 3GS as I have since upgraded to the 4S.
I set up my new 4S with no problems, all works perfect.
I then went to update the old 3GS by removing my email address and adding my wife's email address under the Settings > Messages > Receive At > Add Another Email
After adding my wife's email, I had it verified and it then let me remove my email address.
Tested iMessage between my wife's 3GS and my 4S – no problems.
I have now gone to gone to compose a new iMessage on both my iPhone 4S and iPad 2 and I can now no longer send a test iMessage to myself.
Am I perhaps missing a setting or left something out?
    Much appreciate any advice.

After more testing it seems I can only send and receive iMessages on the 4S to phone numbers, not email addresses.
I tried to send an iMessage to my listed email address from the 4S but nothing has come thru yet.

how can you use iMessage between 3 iPads with 3 different users but only one Apple ID?

No you do not need separate Apple ID's in order to use 3 devices with one Apple ID. I use 4 devices to Message and FaceTime and all use the same Apple ID. You do need to add additional email addresses for the other devices.
Look at this very informative video for the instructions.

  • Sharing music between two devices, iPhone & iPod Touch

I have a company iPhone with all of my music bought through iTunes.  I just bought an iPod touch and need to know if I can share my music and apps between both devices.  I want my iPod to use my yahoo account as the default mail app and the iPhone needs to keep my company Outlook mail.  How do I set this up?  If I go into an apple store, will they help me/

    - For this:
Thank you very much!  I just need to be sure my texts from my work iPhone don't show up on the iPod. I can turn off the iMessage app
Go to Settings>Messages>Send and receive and make sure you emaill address and phone number do not appear. Delete them if necessary. You can then add her own email address so you can message her.
    - The iPod will only use a phone number for Messages if the Account used to set up the iPod includes an iPhone and the iPod has iOS 6. You can't add non-iPhone number to Messages on an iPod.

  • IMessage between iPhone 4S and iPad Air

I have an iPhone 4S for years but haven't used iMessage.  But when I recently purchased my new iPad Air I turned on iMessage on both devices to experiment with how it worked between the two.  I had my iPad setup using my phone number so that they synced with each other and others would see the message as coming just from my phone no matter which one I used.  Well that was fun, but in the end I would rather just use iMessage with my iPad and go back to using standard SMS with my phone.  The problem is now anyone else who is using iMessage tries to text me, it would go to my iPad and not my phone, even if I started the conversation with SMS on my phone.  I went back to my iPad and switched from using my phone number back to my Apple ID.  However, now when an iPhone user sends me a text, it sends from them as an iMessage, but it just dies in space; I don't receive it on either device.  Non-iPhone users get through just fine, but it seems like somewhere out there in iOS land, my phone is still seen as an iMessage user even though it's not.  Any clues as to how this can be resolved?

On your phone and your mother's iPad, are you using the same Apple ID in iMessage?
Settings > Messages > Send As > what does it show.
On your phone: Settings > Messages > Caller ID > does it show the phone number or email address?

  • IMessage across multiple devices - not working the way it should?

OK, here's the problem: I'm seeing conversations in iMessage on my iPad, but yet I'm not seeing any of those conversations on my iPod Touch.
My guess this problem exists is because I've used a different iTunes account on my iPod Touch to experiment with iMessage between my iPod Touch and iPad. I did this before I signed in with the same iTunes account as on my iPad (my primary iTunes account), but then again, I don't event know what the problem is.

    Hi frankct,
iMessage do work as advertise for an AppleID; i.e. all your devices will show in sync all your messages.
For this to work like this, you obviously need to login into the same account for all your devices.  Go, in the settings of your iPod Touch in the Message section.  There, at the bottom, tap "receive at" and you will see to which account iMessage is linked.  Most probably in your case, your iPad and your iPod aren't loged into the same account.
I haven't try it you can independently log iMessage with an AppleID different than the one use for your purchase but you could try it.
If I may suggest; if you own your these two devices, you should chose one of your AppleID and use it only for now on.  If you don't, you nightmare will continue while you may mix other sync iCloud info and having purchased on two accounts.
Even if you only purchase from account A from now on, you simply have to keep your devices also authorized to play your content purchased brom account B.

  • Synchronise iMessage between two iPhones?

It's widely documented that iMessage will synchronise between an iPhone and and iPad using the same Apple ID on both devices, but is it possible to synchronise iMessage between two iPhones using the same method? In other words, if someone sends an iMessage to one iPhone's mobile number, would it be possible to read that iMessage on another iPhone if the two iPhones are linked with the same Apple ID?

You are getting in an understandable twist over this. I guess iMessage works in a the iCloud. The way two devices connect is not by dialling a phone number in the traditional way. Apple devices do recognise eachother. As do websites which refuse to play media as Apple does not support Flash Player.
Get your head out of the phone number thing.
iMessage will only work between Apple devices for a start.
The connection with iMessage is done somehow, somewhere and it works between people with Apple products.
If you have two Apple iPhones. Make sure they are set up to access the same Email account and then select that as your Caller ID
I have friends with Apple iPhones, I don't know all their numbers and yet can communicate with iMessage. I receive and sync all communications with my WiFi only iPad and iPhone by setting their respective Caller ID's (my iPhone & iPad) to a shared Email address.
If that works for me it has to work for your two  iPhones................
