IMessage Caller ID

When I use iMessage, my email address is shown at the top of my friend's message window (ie, it is coming from my email).
When ONE of my friends responds, it goes TO my email (the rest come to my phone properly as far as i can see).
I am unable to do anything to my apple ID to add a phone number. When i go into "Settings - Messages - Receive At", my only option is to add another email.
How do I get my iPhone's phone number on there???
Thanks

Go to Settings - Phone - My Phone.
What you see there?
One of my friends had the same problem. He just done this -> "Settings - Phone" and then the iPhone had added automatically his number to "My Phone" and then you should see under "Settings - Messages - Receive At" your phone number.
Till this you should have seen "waiting for authentification" or something. True?

  • Iphone4s - iMessage, Call & battery issues

I cannont receive text or picture messages via imesssage every once in a while, it never appears to be an issue when i receive from OTHER phones on other networks. I am able to send the messages though. and this issue is not consistent. it happens every now and then.
While i was testing this, i also noticed that when i send an iMessage the receiver is seeing my email Id instead of my phone number. I donno how frequent it is, but i noticed it once.
also, whenever someone calls me i get the call very late, i.e. just when the caller is about to reach my voicemail or disconnect. I have tested this by dialing my phone from a number of other phone including iPhone 4 & 4S from At&t
coming to the battery issues, i ALWAYS have my time zone off(i put my clock 10 min ahead), so i dont see the issue others are facing. But once in a a while i can see the battery dropping from 80% to dead within an hour or two without any usage. I got my iPhone 4s on day 1 and this happened about 4-5 times till now. Everytime i saw this happening, i would terminate all the background apps but that dosent stop the battery from draining.
I went to the apple store yesterday to have it diagnosed and they sent me away telling that I need to make an appointment.
Is anyone else facing the same issues?
Please share the solution if anyone was able to get around these issues.

    Hi,
I had battery issues with my iphone5 ever since I updated to the latest IOS. My battery was draining really fast and my phone was really warm. What I did to solve this problem was: Go into Settings>Mail>Fetch New Data>Push, and make sure you switch push off. In that same section make sure that fetch is set as manually. This means that you have to check your emails when you want to - instead of the notifications going off every minute draining your battery.
I hope this helps anyone with the same issue.

  • IMessage caller ID 'reset' every time I change SIM card

I travel fairly regularly and therefore frequently swap SIM cards on my iPhone.
In order to reduce the dependency on a single phone number for iMessage, I enabled my email address for this, and have been using it as the caller ID as well so my contact can always reach me - whatever the country I may be in (as long as I have local data coverage).
However I noticed that everytime I power down, swap SIM, and power up -- the caller ID systematically reverts to the phone number tied to the newly inserted SIM card.
Is that supposed to be a feature? Did anyone else experience this?

Have to agree, this is quite irritating.
I have my iMessage defaulting to my .me email address, and whenever I travel and swap a SIM to take advantage of local cheap data, my iMessage defaults to the new phone number.  So new imessages now start from this temporary phone number.  Now there are multiple threads in iMessage.
I then have to go into settings/message and reset so that new messages only start from my regular email address, and delete the redundant thread started from the temporary phone number.
Can't see the reason for this "feature"

  • IMessage Caller ID for iPhone 4S

I just bought a 4S for my wife and when she sends me a text in iMessage it comes up with her email in the caller id. On my iPhone 4 I can go to settings/messages/receive at/caller id and select number or email. On the 4S under settings/messages there is no 'receive at' option. Any other places to go and make the change?

iOS 5 is the same across the board for both iphones except for Siri. Their should be a receive at option in iMessage settings

  • Phone number not listed in Imessage Caller Id

Okay i'm having a problem with my texts being sent as my email address using Imessage instead of my phone number.   The problem is when I go into settings, messages, received at ect....  My phone number isn't listed there.  It only has my email!  It also doesn't allow me to select the email to delete it.  My phone number is listed under phone in the phone settings, and will also show up as my number if I turn the imessage off.   The country seems to be set up correctly and I have verizon so I can't take out a sim card.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

Just thought I'd let everybody know how it finally got resolved 1 week later!
After trying absolutely everything, and I mean EVERYTHING that Apple support, apple forums etc told me to do, the only thing that worked was turning iMessage off, waiting for at least 24 hours at then turning iMessage back on.
It activated itself within a few minutes, no dramas at all!
    Hope this helps!

  • How do i get other iphone users names to display in imessage

my phone will only display the phone numbers for iphone users but not their names

You can put their names/numbers in your Contacts and the name will show when they text you, depending on how they have their iMessage Caller ID setup... Settings > Messages > Receive At > Caller ID

  • IMessage sending as email instead of number.

When using iMessage, is it normal for it to be sent as an email? My friends with iPhones will txt me and when I txt back it starts a new conversation entirely with my email as the contact. Is there a way to set it to my phone number? When I recieve iMessages it's never an email.

Settings > Messages > Receive At > Caller ID.
What do you have selected for your iMessage Caller ID - your cell phone number or an email address?
If an email address and changed to your cell phone number, this will not prevent someone you have exchanged iMessages with to address an iMessage to the email address.

  • My phone number is wrong on FaceTime & iMessage

My phone number is incorrect for Facetime & iMessage calls, but correct for cell & landline calls. Anyone else having this problem?
My correct number is listed under Contact, but not under FaceTime & iMessage page. It's some funky number.
    Thanks!

@trdewa - that is exactly what is happening to me. Same funky number too. I spoke to geek squad at best buy and they directed me to apple customer service. I spoke to a tech, who said they are aware of the problem and that sprint customers are experiencing this, although my husband isn't and we're on the same plan.
We also tried all the tricks including a reset and nothing worked. They said that the problem is noted and will be fixed with an update that Apple plans on putting out in the next week or so. I would suggest you call and put in a complaint, and maybe they will roll out the update sooner.

Whenever I send a message to another iPhone user via iMessage it is sending my Apple ID instead of my phone number. Could someone help me with this???

Check this article: iOS: About Messages
    Additional Information
You can change your iMessage Caller ID setting on iOS devices in Settings > Messages > Receive At > Caller ID. Note that the Caller ID setting is used only for new conversations. If you would like to change the address from which messages are sent, first change your Caller ID, and then delete the existing conversation and start a new one.
iMessage responses will be sent from the address the recipient most recently messaged. For example, on iPhone you can receive messages sent to your Apple ID and phone number. A friend sends you a message to your Apple ID. Responses in this conversation will be sent from your Apple ID, even if your Caller ID is set to your phone number.

  • How to retain chat/iMessage history when syncing with new computer?

For years, I have synced each new iPhone that I’ve purchased with an older MacPro.
Recently, I bought a new iMac to replace the MacPro.
I chose not to use Migration Assistant and have not transferred any of the data from the older MacPro to the newer iMac, primarily because I wanted to completely ignore all the AAC and mp3/mp4 (lossy) music files from the old computer and replace that music on the new iMac with Apple Lossless Encoded files ripped from my CD collection.
Meanwhile, I bought the new iPhone 6. I have never synced this new phone with the new iMac. Instead, I set it up using a backup of my iPhone 5S that was on the older MacPro (or possibly in iCoud—can’t remember). I did this because I want to preserve older texts/iMessages on my iPhone. It’s my impression that that data ‘lives’ in the backups of our phones, so syncing it with a brand new computer would erase it, right?
The problem is, I don't want to use the music files/playlists on the older MacPro. I want to load my iPhone 6 with the newer music files and playlists found in the iTunes folder on my new iMac while still retaining the text/iMessage history from previous backups. Is this possible? If so, how do I make this happen?
I do not use iTunes Match and want nothing to do with it, so that is not an acceptable solution for me.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

When syncing with a new computer, technically, all information on your iPhone 6 will be erased. If you really want to keep the chat history/imessage, call history or even contacts, I suggest you backup your iPhone 6 to iCloud before the sync. After sync your iPhone 6 with your new computer, you can try Dr.Fone for iOS to extract chat history/iMessages, even contacts and notes from the iCloud backup file and save them to your iPhone 6 again.

  • IMessage 2 contacts for the same person?, iMessage 2 contacts for the same person?

My girlfriend has both the 3GS and iPad 2 with iOS5. We have been using iMessage with no problems phone to phone.
She sent me an iMessage for the first time using the iPad 2 and now she has doubled in the iMessage contacts field. The conversations are not linked together. I have messages from her sms and imessage from her phone and then imessages from her ipad as another contact all with the same Contact name (all her details are stored as one contact). She only has 1 iCloud account, the ipad was set up on that.  Why would there be two "girlfriends names" when you go into messages?

It has to do with the iMessage Caller ID of your girlfriend's iPhone. That setting can be found in Settings -> iMessage -> Receive At. If your girlfriend sends an iMessage, replies to the message will be send to the Caller ID.  The default on iPhone is the phone number of the phone. So, if she sends you messages from both her iPad (with her emailadress as caller id) and het iPhone (with her phone number as caller id), those will end up as two separate entries in your iMessages app.
A way around this is to ask her to set the caller id of her iPhone to her email adress (the same as for her iPad). The downside of this might be (I'm not certain of that) that if she sends an iMessage to someones iPhone and goes offline afterwards, replies send to her from that iPhone won't automatically switch to SMS.

  • 2 iphone 4s on the 1 itunes account

Hi I have 2 iphone 4s that are sharing the same itunes account, one is mine and the other is my nieces. The problem I'm having is that everytime she texts me or any other iphone my email address comes up instead of where her name should be. Why is that? and how do I stop that or change it back to her name?

Since you are sharing the same iTunes account/Apple ID, what does she have selected for her iMessage Caller ID on her iPhone at Settings > Messages > Receive At > Caller ID?

  • How should I move to a new Apple ID?

    Hey everyone!
With lots of problems with my new iPhone 4s, studying Apple's devices and services such as Apple ID and iCloud,
it's time for me to create new Apple ID. I have made a lot of mistakes... New Apple ID! :)
    So here's my question:
How to move to new Apple ID (which isn't created yet) properly?
I mean, how to save everything which I can save from my actual/old Apple ID? (And transfer/move to a new one?)
Apps, Songs, SMSs, iMessages, Calls History, Calendar, Contacts, PHOTOS, VIDEOS, apps' and games' data, Game Center account, Notifications, Notes, Passbook, Mail, Safari History and Bookmarks, Mail, FaceTime, Dictaphone's recordings, iMessages account and everything that I didn't write...?
(Like for example accounts which are using my Apple ID [such as Apple Discussions Account])?
+I want to change Apple ID, because I have downloaded apps from few iTunes Stores (Poland, U.S., Germany, Japan) and it is all messed up...
Also, should I completely restart my iPhone (like, to 'activate your device' window) or just log out from my old/actual Apple ID and log in to new one in iTunes Store on iPhone?
Maybe there's a different way to untie my apps and other purchases from my Apple ID? (For example turning off iCloud?)
Sorry for not meshing it a little, I am really bad at it :(

Okay, so I can create new Apple ID and act like it is my first, but I can use the same email on my new Apple ID only after changing it on the old ID? I get it.
Now, how to delete every important data or accounts on that old Apple ID to know it can be gone forever, without any consequences for my iPhone/new Apple ID? (I want to break up with it, like it never even existed)
By that I mean: turn off iCloud or delete all my data stored in iCloud, delete game data and account in Game Center to use Game Center on the new Apple ID, things like that (Get rid of old ID forever and delete all it's data from iCloud, iTunes, or smth...)
What should I do to go to 'Activate your phone' screen (start everything from beginning)?
Also, isn't there any way to not lose all stuff (except for apps, music) which I have written before?
SMS, iMessage messages, PHOTOS, VIDEOS, Dictaphone recordings, etc.?
Or is it possible to have it all on the computer and transfer them later back to iPhone, on the new ID?
Thank you for your time and support!
    I really appreciate it! :)

  • How to recover deleted back-up file(s) from iTunes?

I'm needing to figure out a way to recover back-up files that iTunes removed during the recent install to the update 11.0.1.
I went to back up my phone manually. (Which I've been doing for years) I've never used or enabled auto-sync. Before I start a back-up I re-name my phone in a format like this "iPhone0913" This is to eliminate any confusion. That iTunes might try to interpet as, a duplication of another back-up file. By it having the same name (Which I know it won't but I do it anyway) Before the installation of the new update. I had 8 back-up files all dated and in order with the name designation that I've proivded. For example: 1. iPhone0105 2, iPhone1106 etc. as the numeric designation is for the month and year. So Oct. 2005 was my oldest back up file.
Once the installation/update took place, I plugged my phone in and clicked on back-up to this computer. All was moving along as it should, since this was only a back-up. Not a back-up and restore!! At any rate, I went through iTunes to verify that the back-up was there. (As I always do) And low and behold.. GONE!!
The only back up that was showing, was the back-up of "iPhone0913"  I did'nt go into panic mode at that point. Thinking that maybe iTunes moved or maybe archive the back-ups. I was trying to remain optimistic, but I knew there was'nt much that could be down. But maybe, I'm missing something.. I was able to locate 4 of 8 back up files. Only because I had backed them up from another drive.
I don't have Windows System Restore, enabled, So I was'nt able to recover that way. I'm still beside myself that this even took place.
At this point, I'm looking for any recommendations, sympathy.
Thanks in Advance for your help and support!
