IMessage combining child and parent text messages

When my child sends a text message it appears that the message comes from me, the adult. When I try to text my child she doesn't receive the message and I text myself.
I've tried to find ways to untether child/parent but I can't.
my iMessage settings show only my Apple ID, email, phone number
child doesn't have a computer of her own
I logged into her iCloud but didn't find settings that applied to imessage.
Please help, I am flooded with tween-aged text messages!

I have a Mac and she only texts from her phone. I think your instructions are for a Windows system maybe?
Whichever Apple ID is currently logged into "iCloud" (located in Applications>System Preferences>iCloud) will be the Host who's iMessage account is sent from.
Anyway, you gave me a great tip.

These are iMessages only.
He activated iMessage on his iPhone with the same Apple ID that you activated iMessage with on your Mac.
On your Mac, go to Messages preferences.
Under the Settings selection for your Apple ID, deselect your brother's phone number for you can be reached for messages at.

I only have access to wifi, imessage started defaulting to green text message instead of blue imessage to people who it previously worked fine with. Now I can't send outdoing messages, i have turned SMS off and it still does this, any suggestions?

iPads only support iMessage. You cannot send SMS with any of the native iOS functionality on it. There may be some apps in the app store that will, and certainly several messaging platforms (but read the descriptions carefully).

The reason I don't want to set it off is because I want to let others send me iMessage - most people prefer that according to their plan.
How do I bring this request to the hands of the people doing the ios updates? Maybe they could work on this for the future...

I'm sending and receiving text messages in pairs (iMessage & Text)

Hello Apple Support Community,
I recently started sending and receiving text messages in pairs, one as an iMessage & and the other as regular text message (through Verizon).
This is happening automatically and apparently I'm not the only one with this problem.
Does anybody know the reasons to this problem and is there a solution to this?
Is Verizon just trying to charge my text messages so that I can't utilize apple's iMessage anymore?

The same thing is happening to my fiancé. Whenever someone sends him an iMessage as a text message, he will first receive the text, and when he'll connect to wifi or 3g, he'll receive the iMessage as well.
He has an iPhone 4s (in case that has anything to do with it - I have the 5s and we both have the same iOS, but somehow this never happens to me).

Like I said, we share the same email address and woul like to keep it that way to keep up with our email together. the appleID is really meant as the handle that identify you it was not meant to be shared
but can see that people may want to do not buy apps more then once

No. Regular SMS's require a cellular connection. However, iMessage will work in Airplane Mode, as all that requires is an Internet connection. You can turn WiFi back on while in Airplane Mode.

My iphone 4 will not send and receive text messages at random times. My brother has the same phone, lives in the same home and doesn't have this problem. I can't receive messages without my iphone displaying a message asking for my phone number at random times. It happens intermittently. Does anyone know why this happens? I've been an AT&T customer since they were under different names in the 90s and have never heard/seen that. I would check with them. I'd really like to see that error. To get a screenshot on the phone, press the home button and sleep/wake button together quickly and release. You will see the screen flash slightly and hear the camera shutter noise.

I can send imessages. I can sometimes send texts. But I cannot ever send picture texts. and I am not receiving texts.

Yikes, this is no bueno let's get these messages back up and flowing. Are you able to send out regular text messages ok? Ensure your Picture Messages feature is turned on, follow these steps: Settings>Messages>MMS Messaging. Also ensure Send as SMS is turned on as well. If these features are turned on then try this: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings then retest. Keep us posted please.

Imessage stopped sending my SMS text messages, do you know why?

I updated my MacBook Pro a while ago to Yosemite - and surprisingly it worked out (together with my iphone4) to send imessage AS WELL AS normal text messages. However 2 days ago it stopped working and logs out all the time. Only imessage come through (but not always).
Do you guys have a clue, what the problem could be?

Thanks Malcom! I just tried inserting the short characters before the message and it works.
But it's really boring having to type *# etc in front of a text message. The iPhone keypad doesn't lend itself very well for such exercises...
But thanks a lot for pointing me to a temporary workaround.
It's a bit embarrasing for Apple that Nokias, Ericssons, Samsungs etc do this automatically and you can chose delivery report on/off in settings for all these phones. But with Apple iPhone you have to write your own little string of code to get this basic functionality...
YOu actually have to make an extra 10-15 key presses in front of EVERY sms/text message you send for this to work... Something truly time consuming and boring. When I just want to send a text-message saying "yes" I have to type in *#KV and jump between character sets etc. Not nice.

Is there a checkmark by the phone number, or is it just grayed out? If there is no checkmark, then turn off iMessage, wait a moment and turn it back on. See if it activates. If so, then go to Send & Receive and you should see the checkmark. The phone picks up the number from your phone when it activates iMessage.
