IMessage contacts are not registered
Since two days, when I want to contact some friend(s) on iMessage I got the error message "{contact} isn't registered by iMessage".
On my iPhone there aren't any problems, only on my MacBook Pro 13" non retina 2012.
Is there somebody that can help me? It's really annoying...
Yours sincerely,
Patrick
Hi,
Both FaceTime and Messages (for all accounts) use a support app called IMAgent that does start when the Mac does to "Listen" to the servers from new Calls in the case of FaceTime and new Messages for the Messages app.
IMAgent will not do this for FaceTime if it is specifically turned Off.
In Messages > Preferences > General section there is a a line that reads "When I Quit, Set the Status to Off line". This refers to all accounts that have Buddy lists (Bonjour, AIM, Jabber and Yahoo) but as you can see not the iMessages one.
This means you can set everything but the iMessages account to stop Listening to the various servers.
There is also an App called SOAgent that also "Supports" Messages and FaceTime and has taken over some features that IMAgent used to do.
It seems that part of it's function is to link sites/Accounts that deal with the more social aspects of Facebook, Google+ and others and link them into Messages.
So, whilst not a precise term, things relating to Messages do start up without the app itself when the computer starts up.
To be clear:-
Whilst there does seem like there is a sort of Central Clearing server when you use your Apple ID in various places it is in fact those server that check and then "register" you and your Computer on that server.
So for iTunes for instance you can link in 5 computers to the iTunes account. each VM or even separate Install on Partitions and External drives counts as One in each case (I have had to "de-register" some older builds that my G4 had over 4 internal drives one of which had a Partition. This includes OS 9 builds).
As the Money in iTunes you might have yet to use also shows up in the App Store there is a closer link here than first appears.
The Game Center seems to be a separate server (I don't use it so I don't know if the games in use can have In game purchases which would be linked to the app Store).
As the iMessages account in Messages invokes FaceTime to do Video and Audio chats it makes sense these uses the same Apple ID.
The outcome is however you can use different Apple IDs in different places when the overall Apple services.

Phone numbers are not registered with iMessage
Hey all.
I've installed Mavericks a few days ago .
I've synced my contacts with iCloud to my macbook air and noticed that I can send iMessage to email adresses only, not phone numbers. while on my iphone it is possible to send iMessage to any number (if it's iphone of course).
if I type the name of the contact or his phone number - it turns red and says "contact is not registered with iMessage".. Clearly they are, because i can send them iMessages through my iPhone.
What am I missing ? Is there any way to fix it ?
Thanks in advance,

IMessage on my mac says every contact is not registered with iMessage
When I type a contact to send an iMessage to from my mac, it turns red and says "message could not be sent, contact is not registered with iMessage"
Hi,
Start with the Apple ID site and the Manage ID option.
Check your Apple ID is verified and also that any Alternative email including the Recovery ID is also verified.
Check in Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages account that the Apple ID is actually set to be active "Receive At" option
Same for any other email you have added.
In Contacts app check the Preferences > General section is set to the same Country/Region as the computer.
In System Preferences > Date and Time make sure the Date and Time are correct including the Time Zone and Daylight Saving if it applies.
It is worthwhile setting the Automatic Time Server function.
In the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Server enter ~/Library/Preferences into the dialogue box that appears.
In the Preferences find the com.apple.imessage.bag.plist file and (With the Messages app Quit) drag it to the Trash.
This file will hold the server the iMessages account is trying to use.
(Restart the app afterwards)

You are not registered to use this service
We have everything with BT including a new TV box with netflix etc, which is currently at the end of the 14 day cooling off period. If the following problem isn't resolved today I will be considering cancelling the TV contract and leaving BT all together.
Our phone was working ok on the 15/4/2015. I tried to dial a local number last night (16/4/2015) to hear 'you are not registered to use this service please contact your service provider'. I dialled again with the area code, same thing. Also with national and mobile calls. We can receive incoming calls. I rang the Indian call centre who said there is no problem with the line or the account (which is in credit) it must be the handset. I am waiting for them to ring me back but having searched the problem online I think this will be to no avail. I have read about prefixing phone numbers with 1280 and this has worked when trying to ring my own mobile, so it can't be a problem with the handset, can it?
I've seen it could be a problem with Indirect Access IDA being removed from my account (no idea how this might happen). I also know that there was a major outage last week (around 6/4/2015) in our area which led to the freeview HD channels not being available. I had to reset our router which cleared the problem but were Openreach in our area doing something to the exchange boxes etc?
I need this problem sorting out A.S.A.P. please. The fact that if you use 1280 it allows successful calls suggests your line is set as CPS , carrier pre select, if this has just happened it suggests a CPS provider has taken your 'line' for calls if not for line rental, but it's not properly set up otherwise calls would terminate it would just be billed by the mystery CPS provider
Have you had any approach by company's that sell this product ?, sometimes ISP's who's product includes calls can use CPS, if not, and you haven't been 'slammed' you need BT to set your line as non CPS , so BT handle your calls automatically without using 1280
This should be easy to get done, but the drones that answer the calls probably won't have a clue, hence the 'it must be your handset' nonsense they come up with, report the line faulty, don't accept an appointment, and insist they sent the problem to what was once called BT Operate, they look after the telephone exchange equipment and it's 'data', -
My contacts are not showing up on the PC app or the web interface. Message+ works fine on my Note 4 though. My contacts are saved in my Google account.
I've tried several things but message+ acts like there are no contacts in the app yet there are names and pictures in my conversations. Can anyone help me?matthttam,
Let's make sure that we get you up and running with no issues. I want to make sure that we are on the same page. Are your contacts actually listed in the address book on your phone? Are you using Verizon Messages? Or the third party Messages from the Play Store? Please keep us posted.

The names of my contacts are not showing up when I receive text messages
The names of my contacts are not showing up when I receive text messages, only the number is showing up. How can I fix this?
This is a HUGE iOS bug.. Following a tip from another poster, I was able to fix the issue (temporarily).
This worked for me on Verizon.
I dialed *228 on my Verizon phone. I pressed "1" to activate it over the air. I then went into task manager and killed all the running apps.. Waited a few minutes.
The next text I got displayed the number correctly!.. Until I rebooted, that is.
PLEASE, call Apple and speak with a senior engineer on this. They can't fix it if they don't know it's a problem! (800) MY-IPHONE -
All of my contacts are not showing up
Once I updated my phone to to iCloud, now all of my contacts are not showing up in my contact list but if I type in the number, they show up. How do I fix this?
I also have this problem, just from the iPhone 5s which makes my life crazy, too.
The problem of having multiple devices doesn't seem to help, but the odd part is when everything I am doing is correct, it still doesn't sync like it used to do before iCloud, and when we had to USB wire connect the iPhone to the Laptop to make contacts sync.
Might I add that I am not using MAIL on my LAPTOP?
but ?Britty sounds like her issue is easier as gmail sometimes can create duplicates so you are in good if you are not having that problem or nightmare...
IF ANYONE ELSE can PLEASE ADD to this THREAD? I would be thankful
as there seems to be a TRENDING on iPhone 5s not syncing with other devices or backwards.....(I have added contacts to the iPhone 5s and they never get added to the iCloud or the iPad or the Addressbook or CONTACTS on the LAPTOP....
This should be working and I have checked the CONTACTS on the laptop GROUPS , iCloud, vs ALL ON MY MAC
it just isn't syncing and in some cases I am getting a WEB DAV error or CAL error...-1
what is that? iCloud will not sync all contacts?
something is crazy
but I want to remain at 10.8 MOUNTAIN LION and not upgrade to MAVERICKS......or use MAIL on my LAPTOP...just CONTACTS ONLY...... -
My iphone contacts are not updating to Icloud or Outlook, I can create a contact in Icloud/Outlook and it will update to my Iphone but I cannot create a contact on my Iphone to have it update in the Cloud/Outlook, I am using Itunes as the bridge. I originally installed the Icloud manager to sync my contacts to Cloud/Outlook, but I did not like the functionality, when I uninstalled the Cloud manager and and installed Itunes I noticed that the none of my contacts in the phone updated to Outlook.
