Imessage facetime not signing in

I can not sign in to iMessage or Facetime on my Macbook pro with OSX 10.8.5

Ok, I fixed this issue on my own. I purchased this Macbook Pro used from Craigslist. About a week later I found out there was no serial number in the "About This Mac" window. So I think the logic board was replaced by a non Apple or non lisenced Apple tech.
iMessenger and Facetime could not authenticate the device so the login process would just loop for a few minutes then throw an error.
I downloaded the Apple Blank Board Serializer 3t106 063-7137 which is what the Apple techs use when they replace a board to burn the serial number into the firmware. I copied the serial number from inside the battery bay into this serializer and rebooted and poof - my serial number now appears in the "About this Mac" window.
AND both iMessenger and Facetime instantly logged in with no problems.

  • Imessage could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again

Since I updated yesterday I have been wanting to try Imessage on my Ipod Touch 4G, but I keeo getting this message:
imessage could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again
Any ideas? I checked internet it works in other apps, in email and in safari.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
The Apple ID does not have to be an iCloud listed one.
If you notice in System Preferences > iCloud or Internet Accounts you cannot enable the iCloud account for Messages.
Linc has posted a Starter Document for you to look at.
If you have upgraded from Lion then you could have an issue if your Serial Number is not on your Logic/Mother board.
This should be replaced if the board is replaced through Repair or Refurbishment.
Use the Apple Menu > About this Mac.
Click twice on the line that is the Current OS level.
This will change to the Build Number (Another counting method for the OS) and then to the Serial Number.
This should of course match the one on the back/base/battery compartment of your Mac.
Apple uses this to generate the Authorisation tokens for the app (And FaceTime and the Games Center)
If the Serial Number is Missing you will need to have it installed at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP)

  • IMessage/ FaceTime not going on iPad. Have internet connection but 'network connection error' message coming up

I Have seen similar questions to this but still can't seem to be able to fix the issue...
a Few months ago my iMessage and FaceTime stopped working, along with any notifications from apps such as Facebook. iMessage comes up saying 'iMessage activation. Could not sign in. Please check network connection settings.' I am currenttly using wifi on my iPad so I have internet, I've signed in and out of iTunes - as apps such  as Facebook when open come up with 'connect to iTunes to receive push notifications.' I've checked the date and set it to automatically update and I've tried using different wifi And I've tried resetting the network settings. Does anyone have any other ideas? It's really annoying!
    TThanks

    Hi, Trinahughes.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try updating your devices to iOS 7.0.3 which was recently released as it provides a fix for issues with  iMessage and FaceTime.  If the issue persists, try the troubleshooting steps in the article below.

  • IMessage & FaceTime Not Working on iPad after iOS 6.0.1 update?

I have an iPad 16GB 3rd Generation and whenever I try to sign in with my Apple ID to Messages and FaceTime it pops up with "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again." I have tried so many things for this including resetting my network settings and creating a new Apple ID but my wifi connection works perfectly fine on safari etc but not on iMessage and FaceTime. Please Help?

Tried that already. It doesn't work.
The problem isn't that the app is frozen, it just blinks, then closes when you attempt to launch it.
Thank you for the suggestion, though. I appreciate your willingness to help.
I may try restoring my iPad tomorrow.

  • My iMessage will not sign in

    Why won't it let me

If it will not sign in, the vast majority of the time the issue is due to invalid credentials.

  • Can't signing in iMessage , (could not sign in. please check your network connection )

I has already enter correct apple id and connect to wifi but it still can't sign in to iMessage and faceTime . the notification shown (iMessage Activation . Could not sign in. please check your network connection and try again )

I GOT IT! I tried all of the other things people suggestions and nothing worked for me. Don't change your DNS.
I had to back up all of my everything, turn off facetime and iMessage, and reset my entire phone under settings>general>reset>erase all content and settings. back sure you back up contacts, pictures, apps, etc. on iCloud and your apple ID because it will all be gone. then configure your phone at sq. 1, and in the first couple steps you're gonna wanna skip registering your apple ID, and then move along until you're at the home page. then go to settings, turn on facetime, turn on iMessaging, try to log in. It should work after your phone has reconfigured. then go ahead, once iMessage is working, log into iCloud and your Apple ID so that you get all your **** back. I really hope this helped... blood, sweat and tears went into the process of finding this answer..

  • IMessage Could not sign in - Using Mac Pro

Completed the upgrade to Yosemite for laptop. Everything working just fine.
Completed the upgrade to my Mac Pro and iMessage is coming up with an error
"Could not sign in to iMessage.
Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."
Everything else is working. Connected to the cloud. Connected to FaceTime.
iMessage is the only thing that's glitching.
I've tried logging in using my hotspot connection too to make sure it's not a true network issue.
Anyone else out there having this issue and hoping someone smarter than I resolved it.
I've read in other forums it could be something to do with the DNS so I've included a screenshot of that.
    Thanks for any help.

I was having the same issue and called Apple customer support.
They suggested to restart my Mac Pro (early 2009) in safe mode and login back to iMessage, it worked for me!
    Turn off your computer.
Turn it back on holding the shift key
You are now on SAFE MODE
Open iMessage and login back on, you will login without any problem!
At this point you can reboot the computer in NORMAL MODE!
    Hope it helps!

  • IPhone 4S - iMessage & FaceTime not working.

My FaceTime and iMessages are not working. (iMessages show as "Not Delivered" and will not receive messages either.) Regular texts work fine though.
FaceTime loads for ~ 1 second and D/Cs.
I'm on the iPhone 4S (White). Verizon.
I have done many things to try to fix it including:
    - Turn off/on Messages and FaceTime
    - Set Date/Time to automatic
    - Restart, reboot, hard reset device
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore new
    - Gone to a genuis at an Apple Retail Store (Irvine)
I have yet to find a solution.

Exact same issue -- except I'm with AT&T and I have an iPhone 4 not 4S.  Time to get a new phone?  I finally had to turn off the iMessaging feature just to send, reliably, text messages.  I have had some texts not sent for 45-60 minutes.  Most simply turn to "not delivered" after 15-20 minutes.  For a month or two now I have also noticed that my wife (we got our iPHone 4 on the same day) will receive group text messages seconds to minutes before me.  Sometimes 5-10 minutes before me.  I feel like the dope on those goofy commercials.  But we've got the same phone and we're sitting right next to each other.
So.... for now I'm stuck with SMS-only texting.

  • IOS 6 iMessage/FaceTime Not Working

I was using iOS beta 1 on my iPad but iMessage/FaceTime won't activate - kept telling me my password was incorrect, while it worked everywhere else. Some downgraded to iOS 5.1.1.
Today, I downloaded the public iOS 6 release on my iPhone, and it's not working. Still says wrong password. Because of this, I haven't yet updated my iPad.
    Any help? Thanks.

HI All, I think I finaly solved my issue - not really but at least now I am working again- I had a friend's brother who works in apple HQ to check my account and found out that no matter how many times I change my password it doesnt reflect on the server. It works but doesnt show up on his screens that I changed the password so the last password was showing 2009 - offcourse I changed password many times since than- so I figured out maybe its a region issue or Apple is ignoring the rest of the worl d. SO what I did was:
    - logged in VPN connection to USA.
-Created an new apple ID and tested - guess what it worked. ( I have tried new apple id with no vpn and it didnt work) this brought me to the conclusion thatits the region.
    - so I went in to my original ID changed it to another email. than went back and changed the new ID to use the old email address and it was still working fine. offcourse t I had to remove all crdit card details and stuff from the old ID and anything that I bought is still under that ID no way around that, but now I have a new apple ID with the old email I wanted and its working on oall my devices. It took me nearly 2 months to figure this out and still its not the idel solution but for me it worked.

  • IMessage - could not sign in please check network connection

    Hi,
I have 3 macs and a couple of iDevies. All was working fine... Suddenly iMessage does not work on my iMac. All other devices tied to the account have no problem with messages. At first it gave me: "could not send the message please check network connection". After tinkering and waiting a couple of days I then tried to log out and then log in again... Bad idea; I now it gives me a similar message but that it cannot sign in.
AIM and all other internet services work without an issue, no problem with other Apple ID services.
Thanks for any and all ideas.
    Regards,
    Philly

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are many possible causes for it. Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
Before proceeding, test on another network, if possible. That could be a public Wi-Fi hotspot, if your computer is portable, or a cellular network if you have a mobile device that can share its Internet connection. If you find that iMessage works on the other network, the problem is in your network or at your ISP, not in your computer.
    Step 1
Check the status of the service. If the service is down, wait tor it to come back up. There may be a localized outage, even if the status indicator is green.
    Step 2
Restart your broadband device and your router, if different. You may have to skip this step if you don't control those devices.
    Step 3
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ About This Mac
Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.
    Step 4
Take the steps suggested in this support article. If you don't understand some of the steps or can't carry them out, ask for guidance.
    Step 5
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If the box marked SOCKS Proxy is checked, uncheck it. You don’t need to change any other settings in the window. Click OK and then Apply. Test.
The result may be that you can't connect to the Internet at all. Revert the change if that happens, or if iMessage still doesn't work. Remember that you must Apply any changes you make in the preference pane before they take effect.
    Step 6
    Select from the menu bar
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Storage
    and click
Block all sites from storing information on this computer
    Close the preference pane.
    Step 7
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to find and delete all items with "iMessage" in the name. Log out and log back in.
    Step 8
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
If iMessage worked in the guest account, stop here and post your results.
    Step 9
Boot in safe mode and log in. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and test again.
If iMessage worked in safe mode, but didn't work when you booted out of safe mode, stop here and post your results.
    Step 10
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Step 11
    Reinstall OS X.
    Step 12
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or contact Apple Support.

  • IMessage, FaceTime not working...

    Hi,
It's been about a week that my iPad2/iOS 5.0.1 stopped pushing notifications (twitter Facebook VIBER and others)
FaceTime on iPad stopped working though it's activated...
iMessage sends or receives no messages (gives message failed)...
I have tried Resetting network settings, resetting all, restoring as new iOS...
I read a few people saying that I need to turn off the show in lock screen and many other suggestions...
    But alas...
No push notifications from servers, no FaceTime no iMessage
Only notifications are the ones that happen in iPad (calendar, reminder...) along with push email for iCloud and gmail...
Knowing that I have tried many tips and none worked...
Does anyone have a working tip???
And please do not tell me to check notification and wifi and 3G!!! I've done that all!!!
It's more like a communication problem with apple servers...
    What can I do???

  • Imessage in not signing in on new ipad

Hello - I am unable to sign in to Imessage on our new Ipad we purchased. It looks like others are having the same issue, but are there any answers from Apple?

I was having the same problem few minutes ago. Here's the solution I found. You have to do these settings in all your apple devices (ie: iPhone, iPad, etc). In your iPad: first got to Settings, then to messages (make sure iMessage slider button is ON), the go to Receive at, then in the apple ID you have to sign in with your full email address (not your short apple ID) the same one you use in iCloud, iTunes, etc, then after you put your password your are sign in with your iMessage account.
After that go to You can be reached for messages at, and then enter you full email address and since you are already signed in your email address it will be verified in your device. In you iPhone use your cell number instead an email address since most of your contacts know your phone number, but you have a choice to use your email address instead with your phone. So it's up to you what you wanna use.
Rememeber you also have to do this same procedure with Facetime to work with all you devices. To test Facetime i called my iPhone with my new iPad and voila...it worked. Good luck trying these settings.
