IMessage/FaceTime problems

Hello, I am currently using iOS 7.0.3 on an iPhone 4S and last night I found the problem of my imessage and FaceTime not activating. Recently I just fixed the problem of iMessage not starting. Each time I try to activate iMessage or FaceTime, I get "iMessage activation, an error occurred during activation. Try again." And when I try to sign in it says"could not sign in, check your network connection and try again." Could someone please help me figure out what's going on?!?

Hello Java_SE_Binary,
We've an article that can help get iMessage and FaceTime activated.

  • IMessage & FaceTime problems of authentication

    Hello.
In advance, sorry for my poor english speaking...
    - I've one iPhone 5s + one iPad 2, all twice upgraded in iOS 8.1 since few days, without problems
    - I've also, one MacBook Air 11' + one iMac 24', all twice upgraded in Yosemite since few days (or hours), without problems too.
    - the iMessage and FaceTime on my 2 iOS devices, work perfectly and I didn't experienced problem during conversation or call with my friends.
    - the iMessage and FaceTime on my 2 Mac with Yosemite are not be able to communicate with anybody since few time, and probably before the launch of the Yosemite upgrade (last messages on my iMac are dated for end of august without synchronisation with my other iOS devices).
Each time I try to open iMessage and FaceTime on my 2 Mac OS devices, it's needed to enter my Apple ID Password, and I obtain always the same messages :
1°) a popup windows with "FaceTime veut utiliser vos informations confidentielles gardées dans IDS : <my email>-AuthToken de votre trousseau" / "Voulez-vous permettre l'accès à cet élément ?"
=> on this windows I clic systematicaly on button "Toujours autoriser"
Then a second message appear :
2°) "Votre identifiant Apple <my email> ne peut pas être utilisé pour configurer FaceTime à l'heure actuelle....Pour utiliser cet identifiant Apple avec FaceTime, contactez l'assistance de l'app FaceTime avec le code ci-dessou." / Code client NNNN-NNNN-NNNN (N = différents numbers). This number is different on my 2 Mac OS devices.
I would like to add that my Apple ID & Password is correct, because it's the same used on my iOS devices, and all other function like Mail, iCloud, Calendar, etc... works correctly with it. I presume that a small problem persist for one or more line (perhaps) on my "Trousseau", but it's only a doubt.
    - I've try to contact HelpDesk, but it seems that is necessary to have a specific Apple Care to be helped (49€ !)
Now I try to contact the community to try to found somebody be able to help me with precise information about this problem. I've see other has encountered similar problem, but I doen't find clear explanation for correct that.
Thank you in advance for your help if you can.
    Best regards to all.
    Daniel

There is no official public documentation of that alert as far as I know, but apparently it can sometimes mean that the primary or alternate email address is invalid. Search the Web for the phrase "My Apple ID." The top hit should be an Apple web page with that title. I'm not giving a direct link because such links are never to be trusted. Sign in and verify the ID.
Otherwise, do as the alert directs. According to reports, you won't be charged for the support call if you select "Apple ID"—not the hardware model—as the product you're asking about, and cite the "customer code" in the alert as the "validation code" when you speak to the Apple representative. I can't confirm.

  • Mavericks upgrade - iMessage/Facetime sign in problem (MBPro 2010)

After upgrading to Mavericks from Mountain Lion, now I can't sign in with iMessage and Facetime:
In Console I'm getting this errors logged:

I've tried many solutions with no positive result. It appears something is wrong with the Keychain. Something is missing or was not correctly upgraded.

I've solved my iMessage/Facetime problem. This is the solution I've posted in another discussion.

  • Apple ID, FaceTime, iMessage, Mail problems

It seems the Apple ID has become a bit of a problem with various iOS apps on my iPhone as well as my MacBook's Mail app.
First off, I've been a .Mac/MobileMe member since it's inception following iTools, so I have the dual [email protected] and [email protected] email addresses. My iTunes account as well my Apple Store account use the same name as my email before the @ symbol.
So when I installed iOS 5 and then switched on iCloud, I was asked to use the email for my Apple ID which I used the [email protected]; however, it named my Apple ID w/ the [email protected] but stated the me.com was my email address. Ok, whatever...still can sign on w/ either.
My problem came about trying to sign up or sign in w/ the newest iOS 5 apps of iMessage, FaceTime, Find My Friends as well as Mail. Each stated I could not use the Apple ID I provided because it was already in use. With FaceTime, I tried the [email protected] and it worked but stated that people could contact me using that email...which of course now no one uses anymore.
This similar circle happens as well with Mail (unable to d/l new messages) as well as the Mac Mail app; both keep asking for my password, over & over. Find My Friends keeps sending me to Apple's Apple ID sign in page, but I can't see anything there that allows me to authorize the app w/ my Apple ID.
Long story short, the Apple ID seems to be a bit of a mess right now, and I can only suppose it is due to the major traffic going thru the Apple servers right now w/ the launch of 10.7.2, iOS 5, iCloud, etc.
However, if someone knows of a work around or solution, I'm greatly appreciative for that information.

  • Factory Unlocked on T-Mobile: iMessage & Facetime Both Verified As Activated But Do Not Work

    Hardware: Iphone 4
    OS: 5.1.1
    Factory Unlocked
    Network: T-Mobile (USA).
    Hi all.
Like many I am having a problem getting iMessage & Facetime to work, however, the unique problem I seem to be having is that while both iMessage & Facetime report back that they are activated, neither work.
Anything attempted to be sent through iMessage fails to send. Standard SMS/MMS is only available. Iphone users attempting to send me iMessages are only able to transmit via SMS/MMS as well.
Facetime will not connect to anyone. Every attempt is met with an immediate "Call Failed." prompt on both my end and the Sender's end.
I am completely miffed as up until this on my other iPhone, a 3GS running 5.1.1  also on T-Mobile, there were no problems with iMessage or Facetime (unofficial tweak)
Thus far I have done the following which has yileded no success:
    - Delink my Apple ID from iMessage & Facetime > Turn off Services > Turn off Phone > Restart > Reactive Services >  Relink Apple ID > Reactivate and Verify iMessage & Facetime.
    - Hard Reset (Power + Home)
    - Change DNS to 8.8.8.8
    - Remove my Apple ID > Turn off Phone > Restart > Reactivate & Verify iMessage and Facetime w/o linking Apple ID (Phone no. only).
I'm at a loss at this point. Does anyone have any other ideas? It cannot be a factor of Tmobile as Tmobile plays no factor in iMessage & Facetime ability, they are both network agnostic features as I understand. Additionally, both these features work on my 3GS.

    At another users suggestion I:
Disabled both iMes & FT, turned off wifi, rebooted, and then enable both without wifi.
    Waited 15 minutes to activate
No dice. They both required me to enter my Apple ID, gave the me the warning about charges for text message to activate, waited 10 minutes and again both reported as activated.
Tried sending an Imessage and it failed (both with Wifi off and then Wifi on). I have not tried Facetime but I expect more of the same.
As a final measure, I reset the phone, restored and re-activated which did not solve the problems.
Immensly frustrated at this point. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Lame huh?? Well, I'm SO FRUSTRATED!!!!
    Please help me!
I have tried changing the DNS, I have turned wifi off and on, I've tried connecting elsewhere, restarting my whole iPad, soft reset and hard reset. Resettled my wifi. And still NOTHING!!! My dad went away for a few months, and that's why I got my iPad, now I haven't been able to talk with him for over a week... I'm desperate people!! ;) help mee pretty please with a cherry on top!

  • Can not use imessage/facetime on new iPhone 5 and can not get iPhone 4s and 5 to remember any wireless networks.

Two weeks ago I got an iPhone 4s and an iPhone 5 from a local carrier in central and eastern Kentucky called Appalachian Wireless. We had our numbers ported with AT&T. My iPhone 4s can use imessage/facetime but my wife's iPhone 5 can not. It just says waiting for activation and after several hours it will then say activation unsuccessful please turn imessage/facetime off and back on to activate. When we got the iPhones my carrier said it could take 30 days to activate due to our numbers being ported. My 4s took less than 3 hours to activate imessage/facetime but my wife's 5 still hasn't activated. A few days ago we went back to our carrier to get a problem fixed with our regular text messaging and we informed of our problem with imessage/facetime and they told us the most it has taken to activate was 2 days. I know I can use an apple id/e-mail to use imessage/facetime but I want her number to show up. Also neither iPhone will remember our wireless network. Every time we leave our house and come back we have to go to settings and choose our network. Is there a way I can fix these problems and have her imessage/facetime activated and use her phone number and have our iPhones remember our wireless network?

As these are user to user support forums, there will be no official response from Apple posted here.
Basic forum ettiquette is search before posting, so why post again if you've already searched?  Seems rather unintelligent.

  • Can't log in to iMessages/FaceTime on Mac

I am having trouble logging in to iMessages and FaceTime on my Mac.
I read everything here and have tried a bunch of suggestions (if not all of them) in an attempt to rectify the problem. No luck. MBP 17 (late 2010), Mavericks 10.9.4
    Here's what I've done and/or tried:
    - Rebooting (duh)
    - Resetting keychain (many times)
    - Repairing permissions
    - Trashed related preference files
    - Booting in safe mode and attempted to log in
    - Created another account on my Mac and attempted to log in to iMessage/Face Time
    - Reset time zone and date/time settings to "auto."
    - Disabling iCloud on my computer and re-logging in
    - The mDNS/Bonjour fix via Terminal
    - Disabling Flash from storing data locally
    - Tried booting into Open Firmware to reset VRAM, but couldn't (may try again)
    - Checked my Apple ID to ensure there are no other phone numbers/emails associated
    - Enabled my email address as well as my phone # in FT and iM on my iPhone and iPad
    - Disabled two-step verification on my Apple ID (just in case that was it--I've seen stranger things happen.)
    Here's what DOES work:
    - Logged into Game Center on my Mac
    - Logging into iTunes
    - Logging into iMessages on a different Mac
    - iCloud, iMessages, FaceTime on my iPad and iPhone
    - Checked for my Mac's serial no. (it's there)
Just updated to Mavericks 10.9.4 on 7/7/14, updated MS Office and Adobe Reader, then repaired permissions. After that, my keychain locked up, and I spent six hours figuring that all out. Once that was sorted out, the next day, I noticed I couldn't log in to iMessages. I don't know if it's a certificate problem or a server problem or what.
The error I get most commonly in Console is "unrecognized leaf certificate."
    Appreciate any help.

I solved it! I solved it!
Reinstalling did not work, neither did creating a new user account. Skip down to the TL;DR section for what I did.
I created a new user and installed OS X Mavericks again. I didn't re-format the HDD, because I did not want to re-install all of my applications and wait for all that (hours and hours). This did not work at all and in fact, even more stuff "broke." After the reinstall, I could not (and still can't) log in to Apple Support or my Apple ID via Safari (have to use Firefox). Safari is telling me it can't establish a secure connection to the idsma.apple.com or to the appleid.apple.com servers. iMessages and FaceTime were still preventing me from logging in, and everything went to Hades in a handbasket. Oh--I couldn't log in to the App Store, either. I also repaired permissions while booted from the OS install disk--that didn't help either.
However, I DID FINALLY manage to get iMESSAGES TO WORK on my Mac! (This is in my original user account, not the new one I created, just FYI.) I again changed the time zone preferences from automatic to manual (with my correct time zone) and I made a change to the time preferences so that the date is displayed in the menu bar. I did that just to ensure the .plist file was updated by the OS. (I'd done this before, but since this was a new OS, I figured it might help). Then, after reading another user's tip in another thread, I logged completely out of iMessages (and iCloud, just for kicks) on my iPhone and iPad. I also went to Sys Prefs > Users and re-added my Apple ID to my computer's user id/login.
I don't know how much this matters, but when I did that, the "caution" icon (yellow triangle with exclamation point) appeared next to the Apple ID info in the Sys Prefs. I double-clicked it to see if it would tell me anything, and it disappeared. I re-launched iMessages, and I kid you not, it logged me in! WOOT! Then I logged in to iTunes, iCloud, and the App Store. I also re-logged in on my 2 iOS devices, and it's all good. <happy dance>
Now, if I could only figure out the screwy problem with Safari and the idsma.apple.com and appleid.apple.com servers. Meh. I can log in w/ Firefox, and at least I can actually do some damned WORK on my computer now (it's only been 4 days iof this BS)!
    TL;DR, try this:
    1. Make the time zone on the Mac not automatic (but correct to your time and zone), and change something in that pref. pane so that it overwrites the old prefs file.
    2. Log out of iMessages, iCloud, etc., on your iOS devices
    3. Un-associate your Apple ID with your computer user login (in System Preferences > Users and Groups).
    4. Sign out of iCloud on your Mac.
    5. Reboot.
    6. Re-associate your Apple ID with your user login. If you see a caution icon next to it, double-click. Should disappear.
    7. Launch iMessages and attempt to log in.
    8. Then log in to iCloud via System Preferences > iCloud
If that doesn't work, do these steps, then go back to # 1, above.
    9. Delete all the Apple tokens and keys in the Keychain (might break some other things--may be why I can't log in via Safari right now).
    10. Reinstall Mavericks/OS X.
    11. Repeat steps 1–8.
Final thoughts: My serial number did appear in System Information, and I'd never had the motherboard replaced (or anything else, for that matter) on this Mac. However, this is an Apple Certified refurbished Mac, and it could be that the motherboard was replaced before I ever even owned it. Again, my S/N displayed as it was supposed to, but it could that this was part of the problem. Seems far-fetched, but...

  • Unable to sign in to iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, or App Store

Ok, this is STUPID frustrating. I'm NOT a novice user with Mac's, but I'm stumped to figure this bug out...
    13" MacBook Pro 5,5
    2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo
    8GB Ram
    120GB SSD - OS & Applications
750GB 7200rpm HDD inplace of optical drive.  - User files/profile set on this HDD.
Fresh Mountain Lion/10.8.1 (clean) install from USB (formatted HDD first).
    Problem:
    1. Can not sign in to ANYTHING that uses my Apple ID (except iTunes. iTunes seems to be working, I think). Specifics listed below:
    Error Messages:
    iCloud (System Preferences):
You can't sign in at this time.
    Try signing in again.
    iCloud - Calendar.app (Preferemces>Accounts>Account Type: iCloud):
Sticks on "Searching "iClound.com" for calendar servers" for quite a while then shows the message:
"Calendar found a CalDAV server but couldn't log in with the user name "[email protected]". Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then try again."
    FaceTime:
Sign in with my Apple ID username and password. Another box pops up reasking for my password, then I get the screen telling me my FaceTime address, where people can call me (my Apple ID). I click "Next", it says "Verifying" then "Verified" then boots me right back to the innitial sign in screen with the error message "Incorrect Apple ID or Password"....     FRUSTRATING!!!
    Messages.app (Preferemces>Accounts):
Enter Apple ID & password, a box pops up asking me to reenter my password, so I do. Then I get the error message:
"Could not sign in to iMessage"
"Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."
    App Store (Store>Sign In):
Enter my Apple ID and password. It sits and thinks for a bit, then the box disapears like it accepted my input, but then does nothing. Doesn't show me my store account, and when I reclick on the "Store" Context Menu, I see the "Sign In" option like I never gave it my username and password to begin with.
I've tried to create new Apple ID's (through the menu choices), both using an external email address, and creating a new .me email address. No good there either:
Click create a new ID> Location = United States, Birthday= my birthday (im 32 so no limit there).
Doesn't matter if I choose to use an existing email or wish to create free apple email.  I get the "Terms of Service" screen, click the "I agree box" and then I again get the "You can't sign in at this time. Try Signing in again." error message...
I've searched and searched all over Google, even tried some of the fixes the Hacintosh folks are using to correct similar issues, but in-so-far nothing has worked. I'm at an impass here.
I installed Mountain Lion over my Lion install, and everything worked. I reformatted my HDD and installed a raw, fresh copy of Mountain Lion, and  *poof*  no workie, workie all brokie, brokie.
Before someone states the completely obvious, yes I know my Apple ID and pass are correct. I signed in to Apple.com, iTunes, and iCloud with it just fine. Using my computer's built-in service fuctions, or individual apps that I can point to my Apple ID, it wont let me in. I can't do crapall. Can someone here please lend a hand? Hopefully I'm not the only person having this issue?!?!?!

Called Apple and was surprised that the problem was actually solved in one call! Here is the fundamental problem (and I think it is mostly Apple's fault):
The Apple ID used by iCloud (and iMessages, Facetime, etc.) is DIFFERENT from the Apple ID used by iTunes etc. In my case, I had set up an Apple ID awhile ago with the format xxxxxxx, and then when iCloud started, Apple automatically set up an iCloud account with the format [email protected] because iCloud needs an email address. These two are different accounts in Apple's system. When I reset my password for xxxxxxx, it did not change my password for [email protected]
In case my problem is not your problem, here was my situation. All my services were working on my iPhone and iPad, until I went to iCloud.com and couldn't remember my password. I used the iForgot service, and entered my Apple ID (xxxxxxx), and then reset my password. This is where the trouble began.
I could log into appleid.apple.com, and "Manage my Apple ID" using the xxxxxxx name and the new password I had set. For the life of me though, I could not sign into iCloud, Facetime, Find My Friends, iMessages, etc. iTunes worked fine. I think this is similar to the OP. I tried signing in as xxxxxxx and using [email protected] and [email protected], all using the new password I had reset, and none of them worked. I knew the credentials were correct though, since I could "Manage my Apple ID".
    Here's the solution:
Go to iForgot, and instead of typing in your Apple ID as xxxxxxx, type in [email protected] (or whatever your iCloud email address is). Answer the security questions, and then reset your password. In my case, I reset it to the same password I had reset to with xxxxxxx. Then everything worked for me.

  • IMessage & Facetime log in error - The server encountered an error processing registration.

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. Both my iMessage and Facetime was working fine until yesterday when I get logged out all of a sudden. I tried signing in to my iMessage & Facetime and all I keep getting is an error saying "The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."
My Apple ID is active and working on my iTunes, iCloud, Macbook Air and iPhone but it's only on my iMac that's giving me this problem. Both my MBA and iMac are running on Mountain Lion.
I tried deleting the  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imessage.plist method as suggested by others. It did NOT work. I tried setting my date/time automatically. It also did NOT work. I'm just puzzled as to why my MBA is able to log in to Facetime and iMessage but not my iMac.

    Hi,
Try booting into Safe Mode and if successful reboot and use Messages normally.

Restrictions is not active, we don't use it.
First time I try with her mail @ gmail.com don't work
Try why a new account and apple (on @me.com)
On iMessage, I don't see her phone number too ?
I do this " SETTINGS>MAIL,CONTACTS,CALENDAR>CONTACTS>MY INFO" and select her card info.
    still not work.

    Yes,
First time I use her gmail addres for the apple-id., try to active don't work
After I restore the iphone and create a new apple-id by using @me.com of apple.
So she's got two apple id : [email protected] and the other [email protected]
When I try to activate, I have got the message " en attente d'activation" and few times later i've got an error message "activation don't work, re-rety"

  • Cannot sign in to iMessage/FaceTime

Ever since I upgraded to iOS 7, on my WiFi-only iPad Mini, when I tried to sign in to iMessage or FaceTime, I get this message:
"iMessage (FaceTime) Activation: could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."
I've tried many ways to solve this issue, including:
    - Rebooting my iPad
    - Reset network connections
    - Connecting via a different ISP.
    - setting DNS server to 8.8.8,8.
    - Setting Date/Time to "Set Automatically"
    - Stuffing with airplane mode.
The only thing I've not tried is to do a backup, reset and erase all and restore. I don't want to go along that route because it is **** of a time-consuming thing to do and there's no guarantee that it'll work. I simply don't have the time to do that.
I've looked around the Net and Twitter and I know there's a lot of people having this issue too.
Can Apple fix this? It's already 10 days already and Apple has no comment, solution and fix to this problem?

  • Using alternative email for iMessage & facetime

    Hi there.
    My apple id is *******@gmail.com
I have been using my ******@me.com address for all my emails, imessage, and facetime.
I am fully aware that apple will not let me change my apple id & primary address to me.com. So the ******@gmail.com is essentially a username.
However for the past year or so i have had no issue at all using my ******@me.com address for signing into imessage & facetime.
Today i cannot use my *******@me.com to sign into my factime or imessage.  It throws up and message saying "Error description not availible" when i try to sign into imessage or facetime.
it only gives me the option to recieve at my ****@gmail.com adresses.
It is to be noted that i can still sign into itunes etc. using *****@me.com as my apple id. also me ***@me.com emails work fine.
So i went onto the edit my apple id page and signed in.
    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
    it looks like
Apple ID & Primary Email address
    ********@gmail.com
    Alternate apple id
    *******@me.com
    Alternate email address
    NONE
(i tried putting in my ***me.com and my ****@gmail.com addresess and it simply does not let me.
Also i cannot get my new ****icloud.com address to work in anyway. Send, receive. Nothing. And yes i have added it to accounts etc.
Your help would be much appreciated

Does anyone have a solution? I have the same Problem here... I cannot add my @me Address for iMessage on any of my Device (Macbook Pro, iPhone, iPad). I always get the error message "Error description not availible".
    Pls Help!
    Thanks

  • IMessage Activation Problem in Iran

we have problem to activate the iMessage , FaceTime and new IOS 8 Feature in Iran , is there any solution ?
by the last announce of USA Department , the IT restriction is over of Iran , but we cant use the iMessage and FaceTime and any Phone number based services , in Iran .
I guess the +98 Country code is blocked by Apple , and according to last announce about finish of restriction in IT field and services for Iran , I think , Apple may review these restriction to bypass them .
please inform me about the situation and if there is any way to solve these problems .
    Regards
    Aka

I want Apple customer care that investigate about this problem , because this is problem of more than 1 million Apple product users in Iran .
an unlikely scenario Apple do NOT sell or support the iphone in your country
but i think in the UK carrier or the UK mobile operator , the IRAN country code(98) , has been Blocked
    very likely
