IMessage & FaceTime stopped working on iPod Touch.

My daughter's iPod touch had both iMessage and FaceTime working fine since she got it almost a year ago.  All of a sudden, neither app allows us to get into it.  It opens with the signup screen, I entered her ID and password, then click "Sign In" and it goes to the Email address we'd like to use. When I click "Next" it tries to verify, and goes nowhere, then bounces back to the first Sign In screen.  We even tried opening a new email address and Apple ID for her and it still does the same thing. She has some games she really doesn't want to lose, otherwise I'd see if I could do some sort of hard wipe out/reset, but don't even know if that would work.  Anyone with ideas on how I can resolve this?

If you have no luck with this, make a new email and a new apple ID and try to send the Validation link.
You can also try Resetting all Settings in the Settings App. This WILL NOT delete anything!
1. Go to Settings App and click General.
2. Scroll to the very bottom and click Reset.
3. Click the first menu that reads: Reset All Settings.
4. Wait for your device to shut down.
5. It might restart again and go to a screen where you see a Loading Bar and Apple Logo, Just wait for that to finish, your device will reboot and begin to start completely up.
6. Sign into all your Apple Accounts.
7. Turn on iMessage and send the Validation Link.

  • Imessage stopped working on ipod touch

Imessage suddenly stopped working on my iPod Touch 4th generation on 3/16/15.  It's running IOS 6.1.6 and will not take anymore software updates.  Is the ipod out of date and suddenly no longer compatible with iMessage?
I've tried most of the suggested remedies suggested on various forums and blogs and have yet to find the solution.  I've tried restarting imessage, signing in and signing out, I restored the ipod, reset network setttings, etc,

I restored to factory settings.  ipod is 4th gen, purchased about 3 years ago.  Does not receive or send messages.  When typing contact name -- the red ! comes up with message that reads ".... is not registered with iMessage".  This happens with every contact.   doubtful that everyone of the contacts is no longer registered at the same time.
have not tried it on another network-- just on home wifi.

  • Why is the facetime not working on iPod touch 4 generation

I just set up the two iPOd touches I purchased for my son and daughter. Everything works except for iMessager and facetime. I will for them to call me on my iPhone.....however no luck at all

Are the iPods signed in with an Apple ID ? (Go to Settings-->iTunes and App Stores and see if they are signed in)
Are they connected to a Wi-Fi network ?
Try calling the iPods from your phone.

  • Skype stopped working on ipod touch w 4.3.5?

My skype stopped working on my ipod touch (3rd gen), maybe when I upgraded the ipod touch software to iOS 4.3.5. I have looked everywhere online for an answer (well, looked in the places I could think of). If, for example, I delete my Skype app and re-install it (from my ipod touch device), it doesn't fix the problem.
If I delete my Skype app from iTunes on my laptop and re-install it on my laptop, and then sync it to my ipod touch, this doesn't seem to fix it.
Finally (and I don't know how I did this, as can't seem to find other references to this, I went to safari and googled my problem, from my device. I received a 'skype blue' page stationg 'skype isn't available for your phone' (heading), then 'Due to a mobile upgrade? why not find an iphone, Android or
Symbian phone that works with skype? etc etc. Obviously this is not the right spot (apart from the bleeding obvious, ie that skype doesn't work any more). I am not using it from a smart phone.
when I install or re-install skype on my ipod touch, and click on the skype logo, the skype welcome page has 'skype name' and 'skype password' but I can't enter any data, nor can I hit the 'sign in'. The only thing that works is 'create account' (which I don't want to do, obviously, as already have a skype account).
Any suggestions (written Saturday 3 September 2011). thanks very much
Perhaps the answer lies in returning to an older software version (iOS I mean)? But can only see how to 'restore factory settings' so presumably that would be to a much older software version (or not fix the problem). As you can tell, I may be talking rubbish, sorry.
ps - I have 'flashed my firmware' once some time ago on a laptop I had (PC), but I would be hesitant to try something dramatic, given my lack of knowledge!
FINALLY (promise) in the drop-down box below, after choosing my Product, when choosing Operating System, the highest choice is '4.3.3'. I have 4.3.5 I think. Maybe THIS IS MY PROBLEM??

OH MY GOODNESS, apart from now realising that I wrote way too much (sorry), I have just fixed it (after 1 week of trying, within minutes of posting my first query above). Sorry folks, I told you I had no idea. I won't confess what I did to fix it, unless someone asks me. thanks, Caroline in Sydney

  • TS4268 IMessage and FaceTime not working on iPod touch

Hey, so I got this iPod fifth generation three days ago. I have been iMessaging and facetiming a couple of my friends and it was working great up until yesterday morning. I have tried several other suggestions off the apple help site but none have worked and I don't want to have to restart my iPod because I will lose the information that I already have. My Internet is working great because I am on it right now. If anybody has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

    Have you tried:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime
    Can you receive them?
Have you tried when connected to another network?
What exactly happens when you try? Error message?

The iPhone is not user servicable. You can get an out of warranty replacement from Apple for $149. If you open the phone yourself, you forfeit the ability to do this.

  • MacbookPro (Late 2013) FaceTime/iMessage suddenly stopped working "FaceTime Failed"

FaceTime/iMessage suddenly stopped working "FaceTime Failed" although i am calling the same number, what can i do to fix this?

    Hello cameronmhill,
It sounds like you are unable to use FaceTime on your Mac with an error that it has failed. I recommend these troubleshooting steps from the article named:
    FaceTime for Mac: Troubleshooting FaceTime
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4185
Check that your email address is verified in FaceTime > Preferences. If FaceTime > Preferences shows your email status as "verifying," follow the instructions in the verification email that was sent to complete the process.
Toggle FaceTime off and on in FaceTime > Preferences.
If still unable to Sign In follow the instructions in FaceTime, Game Center, Messages on OS X: Troubleshooting Sign in
    Troubleshooting FaceTime for Mac
You can make FaceTime calls using the FaceTime app. You can call FaceTime users whose contact information is in Contacts. You can add contacts and edit contact information in either FaceTime or Contacts. To place a video call, you may use a phone number or email address.
If you encounter issues making or receiving FaceTime calls, try the following:
Verify that FaceTime is enabled in FaceTime > Preferences. If the issue persists, or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation", try toggling FaceTime off and then on.
Verify that the Date, Time, and Time Zone are set correctly:
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time.
    Enable "Set Automatically".
Click the Time Zone tab and confirm the closest city is correct
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,

  • IMessage and FaceTime stops working in iMac after carrier change

    Hi all,
I have done a fair bit of googling and had a look at the discussion history here but couldn't find a solution to my problem. Apology if it has been raised and discussed before and I woud appreciate being re-directed to the thread.
I have got iMessage and Face Time running smoothly on my iPad 2 wi-fi, iphone 4S and iMac OX 10.8.4. However, on the day of my changing carrier (17/09/2013), iMessage and FaceTime stopped working on my iMac as well as iPad 2. It can longer recieve or send messages or receive or make Face Time calls. All the settings looked the same - tick mark next to both my Apple ID email and mobile number, and conversation has always been set to start from mobile number on all devices. iMessage and FaceTime continue to work on iphone 4S without any issues. New sim card but same mobile number. I don't worry too much about the iPad. I just want to make it work again on my iMac and appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Steps I have attempted to make iMessage work again (I left Face Time turned off on iphone and iMac during this time)
    0) I disabled/removed Bonjour (GTalk) in iMessage setting in iMac
    1) I have turned off iMessage and FaceTime on all devices and swtiched iMessage only back on in iphone 4S first and then iMac. I got the message on my iphone that the iMac will start using the mobile number and Apple ID to send iMessages. However, iMac still fails to send or receive messages.
    2) I have updated Apple ID on the web (removed the phone number, saved, and then re-entered phone number assoicated with Apple ID). Then repeat #1
    3) I have tried changing "start new conversation from Apple ID email" across all devices - did not resolve anything
    4) I have added a friend's Apple ID in iMessage on my iMac -mobile number automatically appeared and tick marks for both her mobile and Apple ID email but unable to send or recieve messages still while it continues to work from her iphone
    5) I have also done a PRAM reset - I got the 2 chimes - did not resolve the issue
There's a clear trigger for this problem - change of carrier but I don't understand why it is affecting the iMac (and ipad) but not the iphone itself. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do about it?
Thanks for your help in advance.

    Hi,
At the OS X 10.8.2 update things regarding the iMessages Account's login were changed.
It now requires that the Mac's Serial Number is held in the Memory for it on the Logic Board.
It can get missed in Refurbishments and Repairs.
This is used to generate the Auth-Token for your Apple ID in the Keychain.
Go to Application/Utilities and open Keychain Access.
In the Login Keychain look for "IDS: (Your Apple ID)-AuthToken"
Double clicking this will open the Info Panel.
Check the Access tab and make sure it is either allowing Any App or lists Messages, IMCore and those in this pic.
Although it is know that the Mac has to list the Serial Number it is not clear if other info is needed.
It is possible that it also refers to your Public IP address in some way, this would seem unlikely as most people's ISP issued IP address is from a DHCP server - you basically keep the same IP as you are "Always On" between the router and the ISP but it can change.
If it is not allowing access then change the settings.
There are also two .plists that contain the word imessages
One of these refers to the server you connect to.
com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist contains the Info you have in the Preferences of Messages (Apple ID, Linked iPhone Numbers and any additional emails)
com.apple.imessage.bag.plist contains which server at iMessages you connect to.
I would try deleting (drag to Trash) the second of these and then restarting Messages.
If that does not work Quit Messages and delete the AuthToken for your Apple ID (if the AuthToken appeared to be allowing access above.)
    Restart Messages.

  • Can't message or FaceTime between iPad2 and iPod touch on same apple I'd

Here's my story.   Have an iPad2, works great, love it.  husband loved it too, but big and bulky, he goes with the iPod touch.  Tonight we set his up using the same apple id, because we want it to be simple and we truly want to share everything.  BUT, we want to be able to FaceTime and message one another.  Obviously realized we couldn't when the other was always busy, so I use an addtional e-mail to assign to him.  When it didn't take initally, I think ok, I need to turn off iMessage and FaceTime to get them to reset.  when I go to log back in, our apple id wasnt recognized and I eventually reset our password as a last ditch effort.  That gets me to the next screen, "what e-mail address do I want to use?"  I choose the secondary one, but it acts as if it hasn't been verified, but I've checked my settings information and it has been,  I've actually deleted and verified it twice now. I even tried the main e-mail address.  I've also powered off the touch too.  So what am I doing wrong, because at this point I can't even get messages or FaceTime to work on the touch.  I do not want to remove my log in from my iPad for fear of it locking me out there as well, but I need help! At a minimum I should be able to get our messages from both devices!  Thanks!

I decided to reset the iPod touch to factory new settings and then it worked fine.  I have no idea what glitch I came across, but am glad that I can now FaceTime and message with my husband!

  • HT204380 facetime stopped working

Suddenly, FaceTime stopped working on both my computer (I have a Mac Air) and my iPhone4.
Any ideas why this might have happened?

    FACETIME ISSUES
Devices capable of running iOS 7 must be upgraded to iOS 7.0.4 or later, while devices unable to run iOS 7, such as the fourth-generation iPod touch, must upgrade to iOS 6.1.6.
If you started to have issues making or receiving FaceTime calls after April 16, 2014, your device or your friend's device may have encountered a bug resulting from a device certificate that expired on that date. Updating both devices to the latest software will resolve this issue.
If you're using iOS 7.0.4 or later or iOS 6.1.6, this issue doesn't affect you.
If you're using these versions of OS X or FaceTime for Mac, this issue doesn't affect you:
    - OS X Mavericks v10.9.2 or later
    - OS X Mountain Lion v10.8 with the latest security updates
    - OS X Lion v10.7 with the latest security updates
    - FaceTime for Mac version 1.0.5 or later for Mac OS X v10.6
While FaceTime does work with iOS 6.1.6, that particular update is not available to recent devices that are able to run iOS 7, which means iOS 6 users with newer devices who wish to access FaceTime must upgrade to iOS 7. Read http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5419

  • The FaceTime app on my iPod touch refuses to go any further than the email verification part of the setup process. It just goes back to the sign in screen every time. How can I fix this?

My built in FaceTime app on my iPod touch will not proceed from the email verification step of the setup process. I have tried going into settings like app support showed but when I click FaceTime it just shows the sign in screen just like before and does the same thing. Please help me to fix this.
