IMessage has been hacked? My account used?

It appears my iMessage ID has been hacked or stolen, my best friend is on iMessage and receives messages from me, using my name, but not my Apple ID, but my name appears, and has a URL Link and that's it.
Questions:
How have they done this?
What can I or Apple do to prevent this (without adding the person to the contacts list and then blocking!)
If they have my name, how do I know they don't have other things like my password or account details, and therefore can use my account?
Anyone else had this?

Hi - this happened to me last night.
A message on my phone showed that I had signed on to my iPad to use iMessage and I had assumed my niece was playing around with it so I hit OK. This morning a couple of messages were sent out to my family that were sent from my "iPad" well after I was asleep ... I have changed my password and disabled iMessage for now till I can look into it more.

Did you set up your kids phones using the same computer? Is there any chance one of them synced their iPhone/iPod/iPad to the same computer she syncs to? If so, Their device may have been inadvertently set up with her information.

I believe my computer has been hacked.

I belong to a google group and receive emails from the group. I was told by the adminstrator (University of Illinois) that my computer was responsible for sending out spam and that I should change my password. Excatly what should I do if my computer has been hacked? I use yahoo for my email and sometimes directly from my mac. I did see that my "Console" showed up on my dashboard and several lines said "swallowed up". If anyone has an explanation as to what may have happed and how to fix it I would appreciate it.

I doubt your computer has been hacked, it's more likely that your email account has been hacked. There's big business in firstly finding email addresses and secondly cracking them, either through Windows malware, password guessing or exploits against the email provider. Change your email password, and to be sure, your Mac's password.

Run windows in safe mode (with network) and change your password on your email account.
Then
run several anti-malware programs (there are many free ones, but not all are trustworthy)

Apparently my Spotify account has been hacked last night and the password & email address have been changed so I can't reset my password. My hacked account is "mrouhiai" I created this new account "mrouhiai_2" to post this message to this forum. I have never shared my account with anyone, and my email has not been compromised. I can prove my identity in many ways if necessary. This new account I've just created is using my old email from the original account. You should be able to verify these details easily. Same here, today somebody changed my account norre01 e.mail address. Now it is [email protected] and I can't reset my password anymore (I tried, didn't got any e-mail). I still can access my account through Facebook login I changed my FB password, their security check didn't find any abnormal activity on my FB account.I sent also message to Customer Support, but probably it takes time. That does not mean your account has been hacked.
All it means is that some spammer has attached your email address to some email he sent. That is incredibly easy to do (just change the From: address) and does not require access to your account.
Spammers do this all the time. There's nothing you can do about it. Just delete the bounced emails and it will subside when the spammers move on to other email addresses.

However, if the emails are not in your Sent folder, it's unlikely that your account was hacked. More likely some spammer is just using your address as the send from address. This is easily done and does not require access to your account to be done.

I have just found out my old skype account has been hacked within the last few days. The hackers added two pakistan subscriptions and my debit card attached to my account was charged $49.99 and $29.99. I immediately cancelled the subscriptions and changed my password. If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare (or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

My account has been hacked and my credit card charged by the hacker and all Skype has to say about it, is that I need to wait 72 hours for them to look at my query? I cannot log into my account. I have filled in the support form, but I haven't received an email notification from Skype that I have submitted it. I'm guessing that's because my account is now in the use of someone else, as the hacker changed the account over to his email address. I know he did that, as I got a notification of changing the email address at the same moment as I was logged out of Skype. I use Skype professionally and this issue is causing me a world of trouble. The fact that Skype is a paid service ought to mean that there is better support than 'we will look at it within 72 hours.'

So nearly 24 hours later, and still no information either in this forum or via email notification from Skype. Does this mean that Skype is instead communicating with the person who hacked my account? Since the hacker now has my account registered with their email address, It seems that's the most likely situation, given the unparallelled course of incompetence I'm experiencing from them. If Skype had taken action on this right away (the moment I made the complaint, which was minutes after my account was hacked) the charge that the hacker made on my credit card would not be lost due to his usage of my account. But apparently, stopping fraud is so low on Skype's agenda that this can go on and on. If I had not been on Skype when it happened (prompting me to instantly block my credit card) there would have been nothing to stop the hacker from making multiple charges to my card, potentially running into the hundreds of dollars. Instead of action to deal with my problems, I'm receiving notifications that I have earnt 'a new rank' in the Skype community. Whoop-dee-bleedin'-doo!
