IMessage hiccups

Not always, but several times a day, an iMessage will never show up as "delivered" to other party, though it shows up as "delivered" on my other devices. Other party will get it several minutes later, sometimes twice.
Selecting "send as SMS" seems to force it to work, but that often results in sending it twice.
Sometimes the delay is several minutes, then when I come back it shows "sent as text message."
This is all only since upgrading to iPhone 5. I've tried signing out, then back into iMessage, resetting phone's network settings, and doing a full reset of the phone through iTunes.
Driving me crazy. I hate not knowing whether my wife has even gotten my texts. Kind of renders iMessage pointless. Help anyone?

If you or your wife has a bad signal whe the message is sent, then it can take a few mins to go through, also if same scenario, it will turn from a imessage to a sms text if the imessage takes to long to go through, its designed to do that.

  • SMS relay not working with non-iMessage users?

One of the features I'm most looking forward to in Yosemite is the ability to text people without iPhones. I attempted to do this tonight, but the message failed to send and the person's name was in red. I got the standard "message failed" note, like I get on my iPhone when a message doesn't go through, but I thought it should have gone through just fine.
More info: the contact is in red, not blue or green, and when I type the phone number I get the "this contact is not registered with iMessage" error message. Of course it's not - the contact is not an Apple user!
My iPhone is an iPhone 6 running iOS 8.0.2 and my Mac is running Yosemite 10.10.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!
    Michael M

I am fortunate to report that it is, in fact, working for me, as evidenced by the fact that I sent and received an SMS to and from an Android user. There was a bit of a hiccup when I enabled SMS relay on my iPhone, as the code which was required popped up and then canceled itself. Once I canceled the entire process, and re-linked the two (Macbook Air and iPhone 6) the pairing and relay went off without a hitch.
Try this: start from the phone, then the iMac. Only input the code in Messages on your iMac after the link is established. I have a feeling it might not truly be synced yet.

  • IMessage & FaceTime sign in fails - incorrect username or pwd MSG

I've been using iMessage and FaceTime for ages with no hiccups. Then I think someone using my iPad signed me out. Now they won't let me sign back in. It says username or pwd is incorrect. I've signed in with my apple I'd online to confirm I'm doing it right so I certainly am I putting my pwd correctly. I also tried creating a new apple I'd to test and I got the same message back. Apple help says, this is the resolution.
To use FaceTime with your Apple ID, navigate to Settings > FaceTime and tap "Use your Apple ID for FaceTime."
To use iMessage with your Apple ID, navigate to Settings > Messages > Receive At and tap "Use your Apple ID for iMessage."
But when I go o settings it doesn't even have that option it's just "sign in"
I have found from googling lots of people have the same issue but I can't see any responses with the fix. Would greatly appreciate any help as this is sooo irritating!

  • Imessage wont send unless i add email in a seperate contact

i have just updated mine and the hubbys iphone 4 and mine works fine i can send imessages to family without any hiccups just by goin into my contacts findin them and sendin a txt as you normally wud except it says now imessage... but when i try and send to my hubby it says normal text message yet hes got the new software??? so i tryed his phone to text my cousin and it worked for imessage it just wont send to me unless i type my email in his phone and then it wil send as an imessage but then he has 2 boxes of messages from me 1 normal green tetxs and 1 imessage box in his messages when mine are all under the same messages he text me yesterday and when i replied testing earlier mine was sent in the same message list bit confusin to explain lol its very strange his is playing up yet works to everyone else and my family  just by using there numbers he has in his contacts already not emial as i dont have there emails yet he has to have my email to allow it to work??? any ideas???

about 10 minutes ago, we tested out if he was able to send to me, he was able to and i was able to send back.. to be honest, its pretty frustrating as to why this was such an issue for me and not for him, and was fixed with a single imessage from him (that up to 10 minutes ago was not accessible to me because he was not "registered"). Anyways everything is fine now. thank you!

  • Poor iMessage Synchronization on MacBook

I have noticed (over a long period of time, and multiple OSX versions) iMessages behaving strangely on OSX, including:
    1) Delays.  Sometimes messages sent from MacBook are not received and do not appear on my iPhone for a period of time, up to minutes of delay.  Similarly, messages sent to me sometimes arrive on my iPhone minutes before they appear on the MacBook.  This doesn't fall within the timelyness of "instant messaging".  Usually e-mails don't take minutes to be received these days!
    2) Synchronization hiccups.  Sometimes iMessage decides it is out of sync, and begins to pull in and cycle through messages from previous days.  The result is a conversation thread that is much out of order.  Other times it doesn't pull old messages at all.
    3) iMessage seems to go inactive.  If I don't send or receive a message in a few minutes, iMessage seems to go asleep.  Messages will stop being received, and sent messages are delayed by at least 30seconds-1minute.  A sent message seems to wake iMessage up for another few minutes.
I have tried various things to fix this, including signing out of iMessages on all devices and signing back in.  I have tried it on multiple networks with the same results.  My friend and I have tested synchronization and delays by monitoring it while chatting by a different service.  We both expirence the same synchronization and delay issues.
Is iMessage just this poor on MacBook?  I imagine most people only use it on iPhone, where it appears to work in a timely fashion.
    Thanks for your input.

    Hi,
Unfortunately the issue about how soon the iMessages appear in each version  is due to the way they are "pushed" from the servers.
At various times the Mac version does seem to suffer this lag you talk about.
There is not a lot you can do about it.
Depending on your Mac some apps will "micro sleep" to save power.
Some Apple ones can be set to not sleep by setting an option in the Info Panel (right click the app in the Applications Folder and then Get Info).
I am not sure Messages is one of these  (I don't have the issue on my iMac)
The displaying of Older parts of the conversation may depend on whether you deleted it or not.

You can seach the net for solutions like this one http://appletvvpn.com/how-to-connect-apple-tv-2-to-vpn/ another idea is to use a PC as the control and fit that with a wireless card and set up a ad hoc wireless network that the Apple TV uses.

  • Can not clear all data in iMessage

My iMessages was taking up along of room so I deleted every message in my iMessage. But when I go to settings>general>usage iMessage is still taking up 600mb! There are no messages what do ever in my iMessage.
I tried doing a back up and resource from I tunes but that did not work. It's still showing 600mb. Then I cleared my iPhone and restored and that seams to clear it. But as soon as I do a restore it gets back to 600mb of usage! Obviously something is corrupted. I need to know how to clear iMessage completely with out loosing he rest of my phone profile?
    Thanks
    I'm on iPhone 5 s with 7.02os

Also looking for a solution, Messages was up to 2GB so went through and got rid of all pictures and videos, still taking up approximately 600 MB when I go to General > Usage
    Any ideas?

  • Issues with iMessage when switching data carrier (wifi - cellular)

So I have had this issue with my 5S and now my 6+ in iMessage. Not *always* but often enough I've run into issues sending messages via iMessage when I associate with wifi in that they don't send. I'll get an error message saying "not delivered" and it will stack as many outgoing messages I try to send. However, if I force the first message to send as text, subsequent messages will go through afterwards without issue. If I go from wifi to cellular I have no issues whatsoever and when I have these issues on wifi, my data works fine (incoming emails, Facebook notifications, etc.). I used to run cellular data only because I had unlimited but now I have a cap so I intend on using wifi when possible...but to have to send my first message as a text just so I can use iMessage is annoying...

    Hi there BigDogg795,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps for iMessage found in the article below.
iOS: Troubleshooting Messages - Apple Support
To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps
Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you selected iMessage for use. If the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use, troubleshoot iMessage registration.
Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. If a data connection isn't available, troubleshoot cellular data or a Wi-Fi connection.
iMessage over cellular data might not be available while you're on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn which network your phone supports. If your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while you're on a call.
    Restart your device.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
If you still can't send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that the contact you're trying to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your device as new.

  • We have three Ipads in our house.  We have one itunes account with multiple devices like two Iphones and Apple TV.   My question is about our three Ipads.   How can I set up the imessaging and facetime on all three devices while only using one Itunes acct

Okay.  We have three Ipads in our house with only one Itunes account.   When I go into imessaging and facetime on each of the devices, it wants to start switching my wife's cell phone and then the three emails associated with each Ipad to the contact information for all of the Ipads.    As of this morning, only the imessaging and facetime are turned on my wife's iphone and ipad.   My kids imessaging and facetime is turned off.     Do you really have to have an itunes account for each device to make then work???    Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Ryan

There is only one solution. Each user must have their own separate user account. All of their respective data would be contained in their separate user accounts. This also means each will have a separate iTunes Library. If you all use the same third-party apps, then each will have to purchase their own copies under their own Apple IDs. Some data sharing is possible. See:

I have one apple ID for multiple devices in my family.  I'd like to keep it that way for itunes/app purchases.  I would like a simple step 1, step 2, step 3 response on what I need to do to separate all other features like imessage, contacts, emails, etc.
I have been reasearching how to do this on the internet, but I haven't found an easy explanation yet.  My family is going crazy over each others imessages being sent to others in the family and not being able to use FaceTime because of conflicting email addresses.  I have read that if each person gets their own iCloud account, this would work.  However, I need to know what to do after I set everyone up with their own iCloud account.  Do I make that the default email address to be contacted or can they still use their hotmail email addresses.  Any help- with easy explanation- would be much appreciated!!

We do this in my family now.  We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores).  Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud.  That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup.  That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice.  You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.
In answer to what iCloud does for you: http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response.  What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures.  Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures.  1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.

  • How do I set up multiple iMessage emails with one Apple ID?

We have one Apple ID and many family members with iPads, iPhones etc... As it stands we all receive all incoming imessages and this is impracticle moving forward.
Other than setting up multiple Apple ID's how do we set up each user with an individual iMessage address?
I understand how to do this using a phone numbers but cannot stop all users getting imessages sent to the Apple ID email address. I have tried inputting secondary email addresses but get error messages advising "account already in use".
Long story short.....Can I set up all family devices on the one apple ID but designate each member with an individual email address that precludes them from receiving iMessages sent to the "master" Apple ID address?
    Phew
    Thanks

To my knowledge, yes, this is impossible.  Your primary iMessage account is your AppleID account, so as long as you all share the one AppleID, then all messages will appear on all iOS 5 devices using that AppleID for their iMessage account.
The only thing to do is have people set up their own iMessage ID.  They can stil then set up unique "receive at" addresses, but these are really additional addresses for messages to go to, and do not get around the fact that the account itself is defined by the AppleID.
P.S. there is nothing stopping you from using the one, common AppleID for the iTunes and app store, then setting up a new one and just using that for iMessage.

  • IMessage on MacBook Pro - how to use mobile number?

So I upgraded to 10.8.2 on ML and IOS 6 on other devices. I notice on the iPhone that my iMessages can be received by default only to the mobile number.
I previously turned iMessage off because frankly it was a complete PITA and more trouble than it was worth.  The mess created for recipients with messages coming from apple IDs when sent from the iPad and from a mobile number on the phone, then messages sent from one not showing on the other, replies not going from one device becase there was no internet available but the message had come to the apple ID and not the phone number etc etc.  The woes went on.  iMessage thus went off.
Now, the ability to use the phone number as the default across decvices did sound appealing and I THOUGHT that when I activated imessage on the Mac and iPad it would automatically show up with the option to use the mobile number on those devices.  Instead I just get the email option and can see phone number at all.
Am I correct in assuming that I need to add the Apple ID so messages can be sent there BUT configure it somehow so that iMessages going out from those devices are sent as coming from my mobile and not an email address?  last thing I want is the dog's breakfast that the last incarnation of iMessage brought and I would hope this time around that "It just works".  I'm gettng more and more used to having to probe around with Apple though, to find ways to make it work.

Finally got this to work, coincidence or not i'm not sure, maybe the system was just catching up.  On the iPhone I ONLY had the telephone number enabled.  I then added the Apple ID and all the test messages arrived, as did the mobile number verify message.  I then went and turned the Apple ID email off as a 'receive at' source.  After that the mobile number was verified on the Macbook and was available to add as an iPad 'email address'.
