IMessage in IOS 8

I don't understand why I can't find posts about IOS 8 iMessage problems.  I have had a great deal of difficulty with iMessage since I downloaded IOS 8.  I have an iPhone 5S and a  iPad mini.  I have been having problems on both.  I also have an iPad (New iPad) that still has IOS 7 on it and I have no problems with iMessage at all on it.  The biggest problem for me is the trash can in iMessage.  When I want to select messages to delete, sometimes the trash can is there after I select them, and sometimes it is not.  It is very frustrating to select a bunch of messages and then not have a trash can to send them to.  I have gone to the Apple store and they completely reset my iPhone.  I lost everything but contacts which they preserved for me.  I was out-of-town so I couldn't back up my iPhone before I went to the Apple store.  It didn't help.  It helps for a time or two and then the problem returns.  I push the two buttons on my phone until the Apple logo appears and that temporarily gives me a trash can, but not for long.  It is obvious to me since I have two different items with this problem which started when I downloaded IOS 8, and since I have an iPad with IOS 7 that doesn't have the problem, that the problem is IOS 8, yet no one is talking about this.  Maybe I am the only person who selects messages to delete!  I would love it if Apple gave us a an iMessage archive where I could put messages I want to keep and could then do a "delete all" on the remaining messages.  It takes too much time to select messages to delete, but I haven't seen any sign of that occurring.  If there are others out there with this problem please let me know.  Thanks.

What I did to fix the problem is: Go to your contacts and create a contact for yourself. Make sure you enter your name, your phone number and your apple ID email address. Then go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > scroll down to CONTACTS then select "My Info" > select the contact for yourself. Hopefully this works for you!

  • How do I sync iMessage on iOS with Messages on OSX Lion?

This morning, an Update for Messages on OSX was announced.
I just downloaded the Beta and it is running quite well.
    There is one last question!
How do you sync iMessage on iOS with Messages on OSX Lion.
    Example:
I'm texting with Jana on my Mac - but I can't see this conversation on my iPhone / iPad even tho´ the email adress is added in my "iMessages-Settings" on iPhone/iPad.
I also can't start a conversation on my iOS devices and continue them on my Mac.
Anybody out there knowing what to do?
    Best regards from Germany.
    Andreas

    Hi,
I contacted my son on his iPhone by his number.
He did not have his email linked to his Apple ID
When he did that he could message me with that ID rather then the phone number.

Using iMessage on iOS 8 with family sharing can other people linked to the account see my iMessages? We each have our own apple IDs.

no… the way to confirm is make sure in settings>messages>send and receive that all the apple ids are different in there.

How to delete a phone number in "send and receive" imessage option (iOS 6.0) ?
    Thks for tip ;-)

Why? Is the number incorrect? It gets your phone number from the SIM.

  • Cannot activate iMessage after iOS update.

Cannot activate iMessage after iOS update. "Activation unsuccessful" I cannot activate it.

Have you updated your iOS to 5.1? Just confirming as it says "iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1" in your thread.
Double check if you have credit in your mobile in order to activate iMessage.
Turn iMessage off and on again, than turn off your phone (long press display off and on button) and slide to turn off. Turn your phone back on, enter your "Apple I.D" in the iMessage window and wait till it verifies everything.
Tell us if it solves the issue.

  • IMessage between iOS devices?

I understand that using iMessage between iOS handset devices shows the conversation in blue, while the text messaging is in green, but Apple mentioned this iMessage can be implemented onto other iOS devices like iMac, MacBook Air, etc.  Anyone know how/if you can put iMessage on those systems to allow for messaging to another iOS device?

There is currently no iMessage implementation for OS X devices. So, no.

  • My iPhone 6  is deleting contacts after sending them a message on iMessage, using iOS 8.1.2

    Hi All,
My iPhone 6+ is deleting contacts after sending them a message on iMessage, using iOS 8.1.2.
Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone have a fix?
It was not doing this until today.
    Cheers Nic

    Hi Virkit,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  It sounds like you have already tried some of the troubleshooting steps below.  If your Touch ID is not able to enroll any of your fingers, it may need to be serviced.
Use Touch ID on iPhone and iPad - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-is/HT5883
    Get help with Touch ID
Make sure that you're using the latest version of iOS.
Make sure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.*
Cover the Home button completely. Don't tap too quickly, don't press down hard, and don't move your finger while Touch ID is scanning. Make sure that your finger touches the metal ring around the Home button.
If you're using a case or screen protector, make sure it doesn't cover the Home button or the surrounding ring. If it does, remove the case or screen protector and try again.
Tap Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on. Also make sure that you've enrolled one or more fingerprints.
    Try enrolling a different finger.
If you can't enroll any of your fingers, take your device to an Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact AppleCare for help.
    * Moisture, lotions, sweat, oils, cuts, or dry skin might affect fingerprint recognition. Certain activities can also temporarily affect fingerprint recognition, including exercising, showering, swimming, cooking, or other conditions or changes that affect your fingerprint.

  • I know Imessaging between IOS 5 devices is free, but when sending group texts to both IOS 5 phones and nonIOS 5 phones, is it still free to those with IOS 5? The text bubble is green.

I know Imessaging between IOS 5 devices is free, but when sending group texts to both IOS 5 phones and nonIOS 5 phones, is it still free to those with IOS 5? The text bubble is green.

According to Macworld it is a lowest common denominator situation. If any of the people on your list are not iMessage people then all the messages go out SMS and will count against your messages from your provider. Bummer IMHO, but that is the way it is.

  • Why can't I log into iMessage on iOS 6.1?

I still have iOS 6.1 on my iPod 4 and I've been using iMessage for approximately a year now without any problems, so this is my first (and hopefully only).
Whenever I go on the "iMessage" app, it sends me to the beginning iMessage page (the one where you "Get Started") even though I've already done this when I went on iMessage the very first time. I followed the iMessage account setup thingy, where you enter your Apple ID and password. After that page, it sent me to the page where it asks me if I would like to be known as "[email protected]" and I tapped "Next". It makes me wait for a while before going back to the iMessage account setup (where I enter my Apple ID and password). I tried repeating the account setup but it just keeps on sending me back.
Also, whenever I go to Settings ----> Messages, it sends me back to the Account setup page. What do I do?

I have an old iPod Touch with old software that can no longer be updated:
    iOS version 6.1.6
I've been searching for a solution to my iMessage login problem for months and tried everything from those frustrating links and all the tips from other users.
    Here is what finally worked:
    1) Settings > Privacy > Location Services > On
    2) Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically > On
    3) Reboot device until Apple logo appears
    4) Settings > Messages > Sign In

  • Cannot delete individual conversations in an imessage in IOS 8.1.3

After upgrading to iOS 8.1.3, have lost the feature to selectively delete specific messages in an imessage conversation thread. The 'Trash Can' symbol that usually is present in the lower left hand corner does not show up; its always the camera icon... at all times!
So only option i get now is to delete the entire conversation thread!

That still works for me in iOS 8.1.3.
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds). No data will be lost.

  • Changes to iMessage in ios 8.3

Has anyone else noticed a change in the way iMessages are displayed as a notification in iOS 8.3?  Particularly when I get a group message, it shows who the message is addressed to. (Ex. To: "you", "someone", "someone", "someone").  Its very helpful to see right from the notification.

  • IMessage in iOS 8 won't send/receive from my mobile number, but will send/receive from my email

When I send a message in iMessage it will only send using my email address, but will not send using my cell number (Verizon). When I go to Settings>Messages>Send&Receive I see my cell number and my email address (Apple ID) but I cannot select my cell phone number. I am only able to select my email address. This is the same under "Start new conversations from:". I have both iMessage and send as SMS on. Because of this I am not able to send a text to anyone not using iMessage.  I am running the latest build of iOS 8 available, per the Software Update section in my settings. Any help is appreciated.

What I did to fix the problem is: Go to your contacts and create a contact for yourself. Make sure you enter your name, your phone number and your apple ID email address. • Can't send text message only iMessages on iOS 8

Afree I updated to IOS 8 I can only send imessages. Once you start a imessage conversation it stays as iMessage even after you turn off your wifi and data. This only occurs for people that have iPhones though! I have tried resetting the network settings, restarting my phone, and deleting the conversation.

I am having the same issue I thing what the guy is trying to say is if you're sending messages to someone that has the same phone it will automatically send as an iMessages. but if the person is not connected to wifi or data you need to send it as SMS. So Im trying to send it as SMS but it will stay as an iMessage."We all know if the recipient is not connected to wifi he/she can not receive the imessage"
so the question here how to change it as sms?
here's what I did so far....
    turn off/turn on
    settings/iMessages off
    settings/iMessages on/send as sms on
    Still does the same thing...
the only thing that I'm seeing is when you send it immediately tap and hold onto the bubble and it will popup option send it as sms
but what is the function of "Send as SMS Turned on" it says there send as SMS when iMessage is unavailable. Carrier messaging rates may apply.?

  • Using iMessage in IOS 5

I am currently using my iPad 2 without a smart phone or iPhone -
my question is: how does iMessage work?  How do I figure out what phone number it's using? In other words, if a friend wants to send me a text message - how do I figure out what number to tell them to use?
I have been using TEXT NOW (which is okay, it mostly works) on IOS 4 up until now - and that assigned a whole other number.  But what does iMessage do and how do I get a number?
(the TEXT NOW people actually advised everyone not to upgrade to IOS 5 for the time being, because they say TEXT NOW will not work with it right now ... so I'm going to hold off, unless I can be 100% sure that iMessage will work, and know how it works... I use text messaging like crazy now, especially because it's easier to type on the iPad...)
    thanks!
    will

iMessage doesn't require a phone number since it isn't SMS/MMS exchanged via a cell phone carrier's cellular network.
You will use an email address.
