IMessage in Lion
Hi everyone,
We have a MacBook that is currently using Lion 10.7 and that will not support Mountain Lion 10.8. My issue is to find my option in order to intall iMessage on it. Since Mountain Lion is out, Apple seems to have removed the iMessage beta download.
I'm unable to understand why Apple would not support iMessage for Lion. The beta proved out that it can work, so why leave Lion without a proper way to exchange with the rest of the Mac family?
I tried my Mountain Lion copy of iMessage on Lion without success. Is the only way is to go will be to find a copy of the Beta on the web? That's odd, Apple made this soft for Lion in the first place, why not supporting it? Am I missing something? The only reason I can find is to advertise this function with Mountain Lion...
Your not missing anything, your right on point.
Messages beta worked for Lion, but may have been more of a test of their servers than the OS it was present on. It obviously ran, but Apple may be pushing the upgrade to ML, leaving a lot of people out in the cold if their system doesnt support ML.
We may see an update down the road, but really its up to Apple what they are going to do down the line.

IMessage on Lion. - why not? - or... what else can I use?
I was really looking forward to getting iMessage on Lion.
Surely that's the point of iCloud to unify your devices and enable you to e.g.. come in from work, put down your phone, switch on your iMac and go through your messages continuing conversations.
My scenario:
My business partner and I are constantly messaging each other but we each have to move around during the day.
We simply want a messaging programme that will work with our iphones, macbooks and imacs.
I want to see the record of both sides of our conversation whichever device I use.
Looks like I'll have to stick with clunky Skype which does at least have this feature.
Any better suggestions?For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4.0, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 . <br />
http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
Or use Firefox 3.6.17: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html -
I've been researched to find the solution.
Since I installed the mountain lion, IMessage not working.
Already have activated and deactivated the email account in settings. Already deleted the messages on imac and ipad. and nothing.
Whenever I write a message it does not appear in the IMessage, and the person does not receive the message. If mandar ipad works well.
In these images is a conversation, and as you can see is empty and did not receive the messages. Nor can receive messages on Imac.
I also did reset PVram and neither worked.
conclusion:
Ipad works well
Imac does not receive, not send, and will not appear messages.
Ps - I used the google translator sorry for the bad english
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6wuz7psk76jfqli/vkPTrojLjuYour phone number is not associated with your Messages account. You must set that up, first. Although the Preferences say Add Email, you can add a phone number. It must be in the International mobile phone number format (ie + country code, phone number).
Setting it up from the preferences may not require you to delete the converstations from your phone.
Also note that Messages will not send to non-iPhones nor will it sync messages from your iPhone that are to non-iPhone users. -
Does iMessage work with Ichat?
Will IChat work with Imessage or, will apple be creating an App for Imessage for Lion.
Hi,
In Messages you can have AIM accounts (Now listed as AOL)
Some Apple IDs issued by Apple (@mac.com and iCloud linked @me.com and @icloud.com) are also valid AIM names.
This may mean you had entered the Apple ID you used for iMessages as an AIM account before.
iMessages and AIM are separate Services and you cannot chat from one to the other.
To be clear the app is called Messages.
It can have an iMessages account based on a "registered" Apple ID.
It can have AIM accounts which might be based on Apple IDs as above.
It can have Jabber accounts which include Google Talk and Facebook Chat IDs
It can use Yahoo IDs (Must be registered with Yahoo) for Text only chats.
There is also a Bonjour account which can be enabled and this allows you to Chat on your LAN with other Macs (using iChat or Messages Bonjour accounts).
Whilst you do not have to have the iMessages and the Bonjour accounts active you cannot delete them from the list in Messages.

Can't sign in to iMessage and and Facetime on Mountain Lion 10.8.2
Since I upgraded to OS X 10.8.2 I can't login to iMessages or Facetime.
When I go in my settings to login I enter my Apple ID and my password (100% it's the right one, I still purchase apps on the App Store with it) and then it acts as if it logged in, but everything is greyed out and there's a little grey spinning animation, then it asks for my password "Please enter your password for [email protected]", I enter it, wait 5 seconds, and it asks again and again and after 3 times it says "Could not sign in to iMessage" "The credentials of the registering device have expired".
It seems to me that the problem started appearing when I updated to 10.8.2, but now I restored from a 10.8.1 Time Machine backup and it still does the same thing.
Also, I created a new account to try to login to iMessage with it and it did work.
Finally, I often get a message "com.apple.dock.extra quit unexpectedly"
Here's the log of that crash message:

The IMCore mentioned near the top of the Log and IMFoundation are support apps on the system side of things.
It would be best to do the Mountain Lion Restore and reinstall the OS.
It may also pay to open the KeyChain Access App in Applications/Utilities and check the iMessages Certificate and passwords
Apple ID Authentication is one.

After installing Mountain Lion, iMessages and Facetime does not work. When I try to sign-in I get a message that says: The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later. After 4 calls to apple and 8 and a half hours on the phone. The apple people does not how to solve the problem. The last thing they told me is that they will send the problem to their engineers and I will hear from them. unfortunately they have not contact me.
During the phone calls I tried putting the date and time in automatic, changing the username and password, I even tried using somebody elses username and password. Please help, facetime is my tool to telecomute, and it is hurting my job.I had the same problem and found the solution here:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3189272 -
I currently have a MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad with working iMesagge, all these i use to chat with my iMessage contacts without conflicts, recently I've been assigned a MacBook in my job which can't be upgraded to Mountail Lion and currently has iChat 6 installed.
When i log in using iChat, it doesn't list any of my contacts. Adding them manually gets them in the buddy list but still doesn't allow to send them messages since they all appear offline.
I already signed in with my Apple ID in the MacBook, the same one I use with all my working devices mentioned above. There is only one user account in the MacBook which i have created since this computer has been assigned to me only.
Any ideas?Hi,
Messages is iChat+
The Plus bit being the Apple iMessages service.
Apart from the iMessages service both apps can join:
AIM (with AIM registered or AIM Valid Screen Names ending in @mac.com @me.com and @icloud.com from Apple)
Jabber (with names registered at Jabber servers. Two exceptions are GoogleTalk IDs and Facebook IDs)
iChat 6 and Messages can also Join Yahoo. Must be a registered Yahoo Name and not one of the ones that can be used with the Yahoo App itself.
All these chats will be AIM to AIM, Jabber to Jabber or Yahoo to Yahoo.
The confusing can be that each can use email looking names and IDs.
Jabber Names (with the exception of Google) are in the form of [email protected]
AIM registered names don't normally have any @AOL/AIM.com suffix but @ is an allowed character and as mentioned @mac.com, @me.com and @icloud.com names are also Valid.
Yahoo are also email looking names in the form [email protected]
This does tend to mean it is easy to add an email to any Buddy list and it is initially accepted as it conform the the format.
Mostly they will appear Off line in an AIM list and Awaiting Authorisation in a Jabber list.
iChat as such will not chat to your iMessages Contacts.
It is an extra service that the Message App can join in addition to AIM, Jabber or Yahoo.

Can I use iMessage on mountain lion with 2 Apple ID's?
I have an Apple ID for my mac and iCloud and one for my iPad. I am not able to add the ipad ID to my mac imessage app so I am not able to sync the messages. Is there a fix to that?
ipad using my itunes ID
Mac using my old moblie me adapted to icloud and it is not the same as the itunes ID because it had already been taken at the time of my registration.
ThanksHi,
Right at this minute I am having a nightmare with this as well.
I have two.
One users the older original Apple ID I was talking about and the other uses the @me.com name I created
Yesterday I notice that the older ID iPhone was saying it was not doing iMessages and needed to be set to do so.
The "Waiting for Activation" spun for ages. My Mac Messages app had "lost" the iPhone Number.
It was late when I discovered this and today I left the phone at work.
With my Second phone it was also saying it was not Connected to the iMessages server.
It too said "waiting for Activation"
When it did send a Message to the Mac the iPhone Number here was Greyed out and I could not set it as the Send From ID.
I set it about 7.30PM here and it still says "Waiting for Activation" even thought it shows the no present iPhone number as an Option and the two Apple IDs and I can receive and Send iMessages.
I still can't use the iPhone's Own Number !!!
So it has been doing this for at least 2 and 1/2 hours.
Even tried resetting it with no Apple ID so it would "register" the iPhone Number.
Bizarrely it is showing the Absent iPhone's number as a Alias.
I am wondering if you can only register one iPhone Number.
I was trying to keep one iPhone out of the Sync process but it seems to have gained the other IDs whether I enter them or not.
At present I cannot work out if the apps on the iOS devices are failing, whether the Mac version is at fault or if it is a Server thing.
As it was set up and was working I am presuming the server is the issue as we also have not had Updates.
As for providing an Answer I am stuck myself right this minute.

How do I sync iMessage between my iPod touch and my MacBook Pro on Mountain Lion?
I have just recently downloaded Mountain Lion and I also have an iPod touch that I use iMessage on. I was wondering if there was any way to sync the messages between the two devices.
"I just got a new laptop and downloaded itunes, but the itunes library doesn't have any songs."
Probably because you didn't put any music on your new computer. It doesn't magically appear.
"Does this mean that if I sync my ipod on my laptop all the songs on my ipod will get erased?"
Yes.
Move all of the music ( and all of your other info/pics/docs/etc) from your old computer to your new one.
As provided you can just use your backup copy for this. It is one of the many reasons that ALWAYS maintaining a backup copy is basic. -
How do I install iMessage on macbook running os lion
How do I install iMessage on macbook running os lion 10.7.4?
Isn't it supposed to come with iMessage on it? or do I need to install it somehow? If so, where can I find it?Here is some info:

It's called Messages (on a Mac) and it is included in Mountain Lion. (iMessage is the iOS version for your iDevices) -
Can I install IMessage on a Macbook Pro running OSX Lion 10.7.5?
Is there a reliable way to install imessage on a Mac running osx lion 10.7.5 with no complications?
iMessages comes with iOS.
Messages comes with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8
There was a time when Messages Beta was available for Lion, but not anymore.
Best. -
IMessage won't sign in after upgrade to Mountain Lion
Just upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion. FaceTime and iMessages can't log me in. In iMessage Setup, I use my default AppleID and password (that I use on my other iOS devices), and it says "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again".
I partook in the iMessages Beta programme (and uninstalled it months before Mountain Lion came out).
Also some other points:
* My time is set correctly
* My DNS resolvers are working (actually using 8.8.8.8)
* My certificate chain doesn't have any invalid or out of date certs
* I can log into iCloud (from Preferences panel) just fine
* I can log into the Mac App Store just fine
* I've tried clearing the relevant Cache/preferences *.plist files in ~/Library/[Preferences|Cache]/*
I noticed in the console logs this error that crops up all the time:
Jul 27 09:14:00 tinea-mac.local apsd[55]: Certificate not yet generated
as well as:

Any ideas?Well, I finally got this to work. My symptoms were; after Mountain Lion install, I cannot log into iMessage, FaceTime or the App Store. Getting many certificate errors from websites using Safari. Console log shows various certificate error messages such as Failed to get client cert and Certificate not yet generated each time an Appleid login was attempted.
After carefully following these instructions, step by step fixing cirtificates in the System Root Folder of Keychain, it finally started working. The first time I used these instructions I was apparently in the wrong Keychain Folder.

Facetime and iMessage not working after upgrade to Mountain Lion
Was running Messages (beta) and Facetime on my Macbook Pro with Lion. I used both Facetime and sent iMessages through the Messages client, and they were both working 100%.
Today I upgraded from Lion (latest version) to Mountain Lion. All is working except iMessages (through the Messages application) and Facetime. When I try to log in, using the same @gmail.com account as I had done before, I get the message saying "The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later".
I know that iMessage, with that account, is working. I am using it from my iPhone and it works ok. And I use the same account in iTunes, and it is ok there as well.
So what is wrong ? What happened with iMessage and Facetime connectivity after the Mountain Lion upgrade ?backup the device with itunes.
Restore the device with itunes and set up as new.
Sign into the facetime and imessage to activate it.
After that is done and activation is good.
Restore from the backup.
Then make sure to sign into facetime and imessage again and you should be good to go -
IMessages not functioning on OS X Mountain Lion's Messages
I just noticed that I am unable to send or receive iMessages on the Messages app on OS X Mountain Lion.
I checked the accounts, and the only two active are my facebook chat (which I regularly use) and Google talk. I do not see an iMessage account. When I try to add an account, the types are Yahoo, Jabber, AIM, and Google Talk. It doesn't seem any of these fits.
I am signed in to my Apple ID on my Mac and iCloud has everything enabled. What is the issue?Hi Plasma,
It sounds like you may be looking at the Mail, Contacts & Calendars option under System Preferences. You need to set the iMessage account information up in the Messages app. Open the app, then select Preferences from there:
Cheers,

I've always had this kind of issue. When I write a new message on Ipad using 'iMessage', it appears immediately even on my Imac running OS X Mountain Lion. But when I delete on Ipad a message, I always had to do the same operation on my Imac because the deletion is not automatic in Mountain Lion. Is it normal? Is it a normal feature of the OS X or is there something wrong with Icloud? Has it ever happen to anyone? Thanks if you can help me.
Hi,
for the Points
Sometime I think I would like it if I could delete an iMessage completely.
Other times when reading them on my iPhone I wish to leave them until I can answer them with something that is on my Mac.
It seems that as a device or a Mac that is off line can "catch up" on iMessages sent within a few hours would suggest that the iMessages are held on the server for a period.
It would be handy for different levels of "deletion".
