IMessage in Mavericks - the screen goes black
the screen goes black if I am not using it. Messages works fine, but it's annoying to have to click on the window to get the screen from black to text
Hi,
Use CMD+Shift+ 4 anf the scribe round the window (with some other space around it) and then use the camera icon in a Post to navigate to it (the Screen grab should be on your Desktop) and post a pic here please.
You may want to use Preview or some other app to anonymise any info shown.
I can't say I have heard of this.

The video on my iPad 2 is frozen on a tv show, although it will play the tv show until the end. At the end, when I click 'done' the screen goes black so I can't see the other movies that I've downloaded. I've shut down a few times but it reverts to the same thing. How can I re-set the video feature or do what is necessary to get it working again?
Have you tried resetting the iPad:
Reset iPad: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. -
So I have had this problem before, and know that you hold down the top Power button and the Home button, at the same time, for roughly 10 seconds, or until the apple logo comes on.
The problem is, when I press the buttons and the screen goes black, like it's supposed to before the logo pops up, the apple logo isn't appearing.
I was wondering if that's because my I pod touch was drained when I plugged it in to charge, and I tried to turn it on when it was still charging?
What can I do?Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Just recently my ipod nano 4th generation's battery seems to be messed up? I plug it into the charger and the ipod says it's charged, but when I take it off the charger, the screen goes black. What is going on and how can I fix it? I'm really sad because it happened so suddenly.
Yes. The battery appears to be shot and in need of a replacement. This can either be done by Apple or a third party repair company.

just bought a new iphone4 and was loading os6 and now it won't turn on. the apple glows like it is starting up, then the screen goes black and then repeats the same process over and over. i have tried to reboot multiple times now
I am assuming the phone was working prior to you installing IOS 6? Did you use itunes to install IOS 6 or just run from the phone?
When I tried to do the Over The Air update to IOS6 on my iPhone 4, it errored out and I had to connect it to iTunes and select "Restore" from the summary screen after iTunes finds the phone is connected. If this works for you, it will go through a couple of reboots that take a few minutes to complete. It should then give you the option to start with a fresh new phone or to use one of your previous backups to load your contacts and other information, provided you have backed up the phone previously.

I tried replacing the screen with no luck. The same thing happened with the new screen. I replaced the backlight coil and the backlight ic and still have the issue. I don't know what else could be the problem. If the battery is completely dead and I plug it in the "charging battery" symbol shows just fine during the entire time it is charging, but as soon as it starts to boot up the apple logo shows for a split second then the screen goes black. The rest of the phone still boots up just fine. I can use SIRI, press the lock button like I'm about to use my phone and slide my thumb across where the "slide to unlock" would normally be and it will make the unlock noise just no picture display. I am pretty tech savvy when it comes to repairs and all of the connections look fine, replaced backlight coil and ic, replaced LCD/digitizer, tried a restore, tried a DFU restore, multiple hard resets, but I am at a loss as to where to go from here. I had dropped the phone and put a minor crack in the screen but the phone worked just fine for a couple months after before this started to happen. The phone is still under apple warranty but apple won't cover it because Apple is stating that it is "caused by the crack in the screen." But being a repair technician I know that is not the case... Good one apple. So I took it upon myself to try to determine the REAL problem. Anyone with a little more knowledge have any ideas? Any suggestions are appreciated!!
Yes, I understand that. But The screen issue is not a result of user damage. The phone was not dropped when the screen got cracked. My daughter was standing in a chair at the table and dropped one of her toys onto the bottom of the phone and cracked it right by the home button. (Nowhere near the LCD/digitizer flex cables, connections, or logic board components) then a few months later my phone had died, I plugged it in, it showed it was charging, then Apple logo disappeared and screen didn't work. AFTER contacting Apple about the issue and them telling me that it "is a result of the very minimal crack to the sheet of glass that has no relation to the LCD or Digitizer and that the warranty does not cover it I had taken it upon myself to change the LCD/digitizer to no avail, as well as backlight ic and backlight coil to no avail. But how do I go about letting Apple know that it is in fact NOT due to the cracked screen nor is it due to the flex cable connections? I can't. So the lady that works the call center phones trying to "convince" me that she knows what she is talking about and "convince" me that it is from the cracked screen I have to take her word because I can't show Apple that its not because of that without paying them $199 to fix the screen in which case they will just send me a new phone rather than fix the faulty hardware under warranty.

While browsing the internet with my iPhone 4S the screen goes black and it looks like it's turning off, but it pops up to the unlock keypad screen. It has plenty battery and I was wondering if it is an issue of using too much of the iPhones RAM or not. I have no other apps open besides Messages. I am getting kind of worried as it started around two weeks ago and it has gotten increasingly frequent.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these steps in order until the issue is resolved.

On my touch I have an iCloud backup message asking me to check my settings, when I click on settings nothing happens and the screen goes black. It will not allow me to turn my touch on or off. What should I do to rectify this?

Firefox comes on, I go to a site rich w/ visual content & then the screen goes black & then white w/ with a bubble from the bottom bar saying recovery from igfx display failure..this used to happen on my Chrome browser (the Chr browser recovered spontaneously But I removed & reset it... still the problem went on & I quit using Chr for2-3 mos. There never was a problem on Opera. Hey! OPERA rule. As foe IE 8. That instrument is completely useless. Even all areon IE appears to be dead...Thanx!

My computer will not start up. It powers up, I get the gray screen with the apple, then the loading progress bar starts loading to about 25% the the screen goes black. what can I try to get my computer up and running?

Contact HP Direct Support on line chat and they will help you with troubling shooting and making adjustments to hibernation mode software. If they are not able to help you then repost. Most likely it was software not installed right. Like my computer was. I was missing some software completely and HP Direct Support gave me the links for the missing software. -

I don't see any common link. Sometimes it is just one 'instance', sometimes it is several in a row. But there doesn't seem (to me) to be any sort of common circumstances. (Other than that I am using the computer!!)

My nano generation 6 now stops playing music when the screen goes black
The nano recently started to do something weird. I have been using it for a couple years with no issues. Recently it will stop playing music as soon as the screen goes black (sleep). it never did this before. I have checked the settings, nothing was changed and I updated it - Restore default settings. that didn't work.
Settings: Sleep Wake = next track
It seems to work fine when I use a speaker accessory; the music continues to play when it sleeps.just to confirm, it is not a issue with the earphones being only partially plugged in. I have verified this already.

I haven't been able to find any answers that solve my problem. My Ipad will not leave the Apple logo. I hold both buttons and the screen goes black and then the Apple logo immediately pops back up. I can't get the red slider screen at all. No matter how many times I hold down both buttons the screen goes black and then the Apple logo pops right back on.
Before you do anything else, try charging via a wall outlet for a while, since its off. Then try turning it back on.
When you put the device into recovery mode it allows you to restore the device when no other options work. You do risk losing everything currently strored on the ipad itself. Hopefully you've performed regular backups either via itunes, icloud or both. Evern if you have synced content to either of those, you may not lose everything. All previous purchases have been saved in the itunes and app stores, so you can dowload them again.
while the ipad is off, press and hold the home button and plug the usb cord into the ipad. You should see a message pop up on the itunes window on your compoter screen that state it has discoverd an ipad in recovery mode.
You should now be able to restore
