IMessage: in Yosemite

iMessage: in Yosemite, the font in the iMessage pane is too small for me, even after enlarging it with the only apparent way it allows. Can something be done about it? The font has more adjustability on the iPhone.

Ramon, there is a discussion and answer in this thread:

  • Syncing iMessages post Yosemite Update

I am SO frustrated. I've read forum after forum and CANNOT seem to set up text message forwarding. I've signed into just one apple id across all of the devices (@icloud.com), I've selected receive from and only had my email address selected. I've toggled the iMessage on and off on my phone (sometimes crashing iMessage - it says it's activating and then says it can't connect to iCloud).
There is a SERIOUS bug in iMessage and this problem only started after I updated to Yosemite and iOS 8, on my new iPhone 5.
Before updating anything, my MacBook Air and my iPhone 4 were working together beautifully. After updating to Yosemite, still having my iPhone 4 (without iOS 8), suddenly I could receive messages on both devices, but they would show up unread on my phone even though I checked them on my laptop and vice versa and my replies would only show up on the device where the replies originated. When I switched to the other device, conversations appear one sided - I can only see the series of messages my friends sent me in the conversation on the other device (without my replies).
Today, I was furious because I texted someone from my phone while at work and then thought that I never heard from them. I went home to discover that their reply only went to my Macbook Air, which had been sitting at home, closed, on the kitchen table!
    PLEASE FIX THIS BUG, APPLE.
    Kind regards,
    K

I just opened my laptop and it's WORKING!
I am assuming syncing everything to the iCloud Apple ID was what did it. Make sure you're signed into icloud ID across all devices. Ignore all of the postings on toggling iMessage on and off and checking certain "Receive At" IDs.
Simply ensure you are logged into your @icloud.com or @me.com Apple ID on iCloud on all devices, and then ensure you are logged into that same ID in iMessage. When you open iMessage on your device, you can see the email you are logged into at the top of the options. If it isn't your @icloud or @me address, tap the ID and you get the option to sign out and then sign back in. Sometimes this makes the phone hang up, when it tries to activate the ID, but you can just rest the phone (holding the power and home button at the same time until you see the black screen with the apple), an it should be set.
    Then, give it 24 hrs.

  • Authentication iMessage Error Yosemite

I have a collection of Apple kit here (Who doesn't eh!) but have an issue with JUST ONE of them a MacPro using a FireWire Camera.
    With the Messages Application.
When I try and log into iMessage via Messages/Preferences I get the following message.
"Could not sign into iMessage - An error occurred during Activation. Try again"  I have tried again several hundred times over several weeks. No change. Sometimes it looks like its going to succeed and the menu options start to appear but then exits and reports back as above.
I know the username and password are correct as that is the same information I use on other machines fine (typically a 2013 MAcBook Air).
    Any thou

    Eric,
thanks for the response. Sadly not solved yet.
I checked through the link and did the imagent force quit. It went for a second then re-appears. Started Messages and get the log-in screen, but sadly still doesn't work.  checked the hosts file and there isn't a firewall issue here.
    Any other ideas?

  • Downloading Message Backlog

I don't turn my Macbook on every day but I do send a lot of texts (SMS and iMessage) on my iPhone 6. In theory Messages on Yosemite should have all the texts I send on my iPhone because of Handoff but I find it takes a while (30-45 minutes) before my Macbook starts downloading the "backlog" from the cloud. Is this delay normal? During this time I can send iMessages from Yosemite (haven't tried SMS) and see them in the conversation screen on my phone but the replies I get on my phone aren't showing up on my Macbook. Is this a problem or am I being too picky?

    Hi,
Each iMessage that is sent to your iPhone number or Apple ID is "copied"  and duplicated so it can be sent uniquely to each device that is registered with the iMessages servers.
They are then "pushed" to each devices whether it is accepting them or not.
The info seems to suggest that once logged in the accounts is "Always On"  until you quit the app or Shut Down the computer.
Handoff is the Blue Tooth bit that allows Macs that are not too old  and good enough iPhones to Pair and then continue the same actions across some apps.
The Text Forwarding is linking the iPhone and Mac using the Network the Mac  is on. It does not use Blue Tooth and the specs of the devices that can do can be lower than Handoff.
Your iPhone has to be integrated into the LAN before the iPhone can pass on the SMS texts.
The Messages app on the Mac should start getting iMessages as soon as it connected to the Server.
I turn my Mac Off everyday  and don't use my iPhone as extensively as you seem to be doing.
When I am home and turn my computer On the Messages DOCK Icon has the Unread Badge showing those iMessages or SMS I have had.
I normally start up Messages after the computer has fully finished Starting Up.
Messages has several support app and parts that divide up some of the work involved.
An App called IMAgent starts up when the computer does and this does the "listening" to the servers to see if there are any new messages (of any sort).
Effectively you have to wait til this gets the all clear from the system before it starts work.
Having said that the 30-45 mins you describe does seem a very long time.
    I would tend to:-
    1) Repair Permissions  (Open Disk Utility in th Applications/Utilities folder).
    2) Open the Activity Monitor in the same folder and check that some process is not getting stuck and holding  the Start Up process up. (High CPU cycles and "not responding" messages are the things to look for).

  • Unable to use iMessage on Mac with non-IOS contact with Yosemite and IOS 8.1

I have an iPhone, an iPad running IOS 8.1, and a Mac running Yosemite.  I have set up all 3 to use iMessage, entering the codes as requested.  The 2 IOS devices work fine and the Mac works fine on messages to contacts with iPhones but non-IOS contacts remain red and are not accepted and if I try to send a group message with a non-IOS contact I get  "XXX cannot be added to the group chat - XXX is not registered with iMessage".  I have tried deleting and replacing the contact and it still will not accept her.  I understood that this would be fixed after updating to Yosemite and IOS 8.1 but the upgrades have not resolved the problem for me.
    In my Mac iMessage preferences:
1-I am signed in with my Apple ID and the account is enabled.
2-In the "You can be reached for messages at" field, I have my iPhone number, preceded by a +1 and the area code and 3 email addresses (icloud, me, and gmail)
3-in the "Start new conversations from" field, I have my cell phone number  - also with a +1 and area code.
4-I have checked all of my Apple ID and iCloud details and they are all correct.
All other Handoff features appear to be working correctly.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks very much -
    Mary Ellen

    Hi,
It will suggest and look like it will auto-complete until you type further.
As 204 is unlikely to be the full number the issue does not arise.
For instance if I start typing my name every option that I have listed with my name over three Contacts card (for my three computers) and some Accounts not linked to Address Cards are listed
Of course this lists also shows cross connections between the accounts making the list longer.

  • Updated my Macbook Air to Yosemite and now IMessage won't open pictures

I updated my Macbook Air to Yosemite a few days ago and since then IMessage has been acting up. It won't let open pictures now. A picture comes through titled "IMG_2882" but when I click on it, it comes up with a description of the image - the type of image, when it was last modified, etc. I click the 'Open with Preview" option and nothing happens. I'm regretting updating to Yosemite now. Is anyone else having this issue? I have no idea how to fix it. Please let me know if you have any ideas! Thank you!

If it is the third party apps crashing - try downloading another app - any free app is fine. See if that resets the other apps.

  • Facetime and iMessage on Macbook Pro Retina display slow after Yosemite 10.10.3 Update

    Hi
I recently updated my Macbook Pro Retina display to Yosemite 10.10.3 update. I see that the Facetime and iMessage has become relatively very slow. Like for example when someone calls on my phone it takes like more than 15 seconds + to show up on my macbook. Earlier it used to be like instant!
I started seeing this problem on Yosemite 10.10.3 update only. Also the same is the story with iMessage. When I get an SMS or an iMessage from my friends it takes like a good 30 seconds + to show up on my macbook pro.
Just for your information, this is the version of macbook i am using
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
    2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    251GB Flash storage
As Suggested by someone I also tried RESETTING my computer's PRAM. That didn't seem to help either. Can anyone help. If it is a genuine bug in Apple Yosemite, I'd like to file a bug in the community.
    Regards

  • My mac keeps telling me my apple ID and imessage is being used on a new iPhone, help? is this related to Yosemite?

My mac has popped up with these alerts twice now, one saying 'Your apple ID is now being used for iCloud on a new iPhone.' followed by 'Your phone number is now being used for iMessage and facetime on a new iPhone.' what should I do?
I haven't got a new iPhone obviously and my current one is already been signed in and always has been, i tried changing my Apple ID password but the alerts came up again.
I recently updated to the OS X Yosemite update and have been having some isues with my wifi since then so I'm not sure if this could be related. I also had my last iPhone stolen about half a year ago but used the Track my iPhone on my cloud to set it so if it did become online it would be wiped, but obviously i am quite concerned.
    Thanks!

After updating a while back, I got some false alerts myself but they were for devices I owned.  In your case you might want to contact the Apple account security team and ask them their advice: Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security - Apple Support.

  • Updated to Yosemite, iMessage fusing different people and numbers to same conversation

I recently updated to Yosemite and my iMessages is getting some contacts mixed up. For example, I had previously used iMessage to communicate with my dad who has an iphone and imessage. Now with Yosemite my mom who uses SMS with a different number as my father, is added to the conversation with my dad. It makes no sense and two different numbers are used in the same thread, I have no idea who I message from my computer. On my phone all is normal.

    Hi,
Do you have an Address card in the Contacts app that has both sets of info on it ?
DO they share and Apple ID ?
You may find that the name in the "To" spot has to be used like a drop down to select the "right" number.

  • Copy iMessages from Mavericks to Yosemite?

    Hi all:
I just did a clean install of Yosemite, looking to copy my iMessages history from my Mavericks system over. I tried copying the contents of ~/Messages over, but once I launch Messages, I it says "Messages is updating... The Messages database is being upgraded, please wait...". I let it sit for over 20 minutes, Activity Monitor shows little to no disk activity. Has anyone done this before? Seems there must be a bug causing the database upgrade function to hang. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

The solution, for me, is here.

  • SMS in Yosemite messages not working. "Not registered with iMessage"

Just updated today to Yosemite. Macbook Pro 2013 (current retail model) with upgraded RAM and flash storage. iPhone 6 running 8.0.2 with recent back up to iCloud.
When sending iMessages to my normal iMessage contacts, everything is ok. This update should also allow for continuity with SMS, that they show up as Messages in the same application. I cannot get any messages which are not iMessages to send out. Each time I attempt this, I get the error "User is not registered with iMessage." Which, yes, duh. That's the point. I've sent and received SMS messages on my phone with out error, but still have not been able to initiate or respond on my Mac with Messages. My contact card only has the same phone number which is registered to the same iCloud account for both the phone and the Mac.
I've restarted the phone and logged in and out of iMessage in hopes of a refresh. I'm out of ideas as to how to get them to sync up, or whatever it is they need to do.
Is there a step that I am missing? It should, in theory, just work, but I can't find any messages on this. Any guesses?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
It seems that some people are experiencing issues with Logging in fully to the iMessages Servers from their Mac.
There is one Error Messages that is seen that is known to be very similar.
This Error can only be fixed by Contacting Support.
What is does prove though is the The Apple ID in use can be rejected on a  Device by device basis, i.e. it will work on a iOS device or even another Mac but not on one particular one.
Sometimes deleting the Keychain item for the iMessages Login can help (then Restarting the app)
It is called IDS: yourApple ID- Auth Token
If deleting this does not work try repairing the Keychain.
After that I would contact Apple Support. You may have to speak to a Level 2 person as Level 1 people try to fit everyone into Software or hardware issues and charge for Out of time Apple Care.
Fixing and Apple ID/Account is free.

  • Yosemite and iOS iMessage Syncing Problem

I am SO frustrated. I've read forum after forum and CANNOT seem to set up text message forwarding. I've signed into just one apple id across all of the devices (@icloud.com), I've selected receive from and only had my email address selected. I've toggled the iMessage on and off on my phone (sometimes crashing iMessage - it says it's activating and then says it can't connect to iCloud). I've turned on BlueTooth and tried connecting my devices and then clicking "Enable Test Message Forwarding." Whatever I do, I CANNOT seem to get the activation code to pop up on my laptop. It just won't.
There is a SERIOUS bug in iMessage and this problem only started after I updated to Yosemite and iOS 8, on my new iPhone 5.
Before updating anything, my MacBook Air and my iPhone 4 were working together beautifully. I thought I fixed it because one or two messages I sent from my iPhone showed up on my laptop when I used it later in the day. However, I have yet to see this successfully happen again.
    PLEASE FIX THIS BUG, APPLE.

    Hi,
What I am understanding form your post may not be what you think you are telling me.
Nor does it quite match what I thought I had posted.  (post/message  is only as good as it is understood by the recipient)
On the iPhone in the iMessages setting remove all additional emails.
Remove the Apple ID you are using for iMessages
Then place in Airplane Mode (ON) which turns everything else Off effectively.
this will leave Messages with just the iPhone number listed when you go back to the settings.
Wait for the iPhone Number to Verify (re-register) with the servers.
    Apple IDs
I have an Apple ID I made years ago using an external email address from a Dial up provider.
At the start of iCloud I linked it to iCloud and received an @Me.com email ID either works in iTunes and logging in to the web page for iCloud.
    Later I also got an @icloud.com email/ID
Sending an email to @me.com or @iCloud.com gets to my Mail App that lists the @me.com variant.
Emails sent to the original email address do not come through the Apple servers.
iMessages treats each as a separate ID.
It is important that the Apple ID used on the Mac and the first one used as the Apple ID in Messages on the iPhone are the same - even if they are linked elsewhere.
(It can be different to the iCloud setting on each device)
when you add the Apple ID to the iPhone the mac should get the Pop ups to say what the iPhone is using.
Accepting them adds the iPhone number to the Send and Receive options in the Mac version (And th Start conversations from drop down).
At this point on the Mac you should have only two IDs active to Receive and Send (the Apple ID and the iPhone Number).
Text Forwarding should then be enabled on the iPhone, prompting the Mac version to show you the code, which then needs entering on the iPhone.
There are limits to some Model of Mac regarding Handoff and Airplay (my mid 2011 iMac will do Airplay between Macs but not with iOS devices).
I am not sure if there are limits to Text Forwarding though.
