  • Programs keep not responding, computer freezes often, apple mail won't open

Starting yesterday my computer has been running very slowly. it takes almost 15 minutes to start up and then programs won't open or will quit unexpectedly or not respond. Not to mention that my computer freezes every 30 seconds or so. I have 4gb of crucial ram that system diagnostics say is ok. i don't know what is wrong.

Have you tried opening Mail from the Applications folder. The Dock alias may be corrupt.
    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

  • My Facetime and iMessages are not responding anylonger. When I push the app and put in my Apple I.D.

The Facetime and iMessages used to work just fine on my iPod Touch.  Now, for some unknown reason, they do not.  When I push the app on my home page, they ask for the Apple I.D. and password and I enter them, then it goes to 'Verifying' and suddenly bounces back to 'Enter Apple I.D. and password' again and again.  I have checked and my I.D. and password are correct.  Does anyone know what could be the problem and how I can fix it?

If you head to Settings -> General -> Date & Time is it set to Automatic?
Try a hard reset of your device.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake andHome buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, try using Google's OpenDNS servers to address the issue. Head to Settings -> Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected to. Scroll down to the DNSfields and enter in 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

  • IMessage will not deactivate please help because apple wont

I need to turn off iMessage for one of the phone numbers on my account. My email address is signed in the App Store on 2 phones but my phone number is on my phone and my dads number is on his phone. He is currently using an android phone and we are trying to get everyone else's phone to stop sending the messages as iMessage to him. I put his SIM card back in his old phone and turned iMessage off. Before I would do that I would go into that receive option and it would not give me the option to uncheck his phone number. I also signed into the website and it does not show his phone number on my account it only shows mine. What else can I do to get this to actually deactivate?

    Hi Criesofthepast44,
If you are having issues deactiving iMessage for an account that is no longer using an iPhone, you may find the following article helpful:

  • Ipod 1st generation click wheel not responding - won't reset - apple icon

My ipod won't reset or show up in itunes when connected.  Apple icon seems to be frozen on screen.  How can I reset it?  Help!

This is really the 1st gen iPod from 2001, with a non-touch non-click wheel that physically turns, and connects with a FireWire cable?
Make sure the Hold switch is not in the ON position?
The older iPods did a reset differently from more recent iPod that have a click wheel.  Be sure you are following the appropriate reset steps in this document, based on the actual iPod model.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If it's a 1st gen iPod, it would be How to reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector).  The buttons to press and hold are different from later iPods.

  • HT5225 .Mac mail is not responding! Had to go through the whole "Move to iCloud" *twice because iCloud/Apple "acted all brand new" as if I hadn't taken care of this days ago! .Mac mail still not responding! What gives, Apple?

Like it says in the title, I already transfered to iCloud days ago, and now I go to check my e-mail and VOILA! Apple/.Mac/iCloud are acting all brand new, like I never did any thing!
So I go through the palabra again to continue using my .Mac e-mail, part of the whole *Family Pack* set-up I paid for each year circa $200 for the whole nine yards for the past six years, only to be told that in their infinite wisdom dwelling in their cushy bubble in Cupertino, Apple will no longer have the service I've been paying for, and "oh, don't worry, you can still have your e-mail"...
Still no e-mail. Still no consistently working .Mac service. Congratulations, Apple. Y'all are starting to look more and more like Microsoft, and no, that is not a complement.

i didn't read a lot of your 2nd paragraph, but it seems like the password is the issue, right?
    do a true clean install
reboot your machine and hold down command+option+r, you should see a spinning globe - if you don't see the globe or anything that reads internet recovery, shut down and try again
at menu, chose disk utility and once there, find your HD on the left side, select the physical name and erase it as mac journaled
    exit disk utlity
    at menu, choose install OSX
this time, when it asks for a password just hit continue, it will let you complete without a password
you should be able to get into your laptop, now figure out what password you'll be able to use with your kb issue

  • Imessages Not Responding

I recently upgraded my 2014 retina macbook pro with Yosemite and not my imessages is not responding.  When it is open it uses 100% of the CPU and freezes.  I can only force quit the application.  Usually it shows when I get a message even if its not open but that is not the case now.  I was wondering how I could fix this and is this related to anything else that I need to worry about.

    Back up all data.
Quit Messages if it’s running. Force quit if necessary. After each of the following steps, restart the computer and test. If the problem isn't resolved, quit again and go on to the next step.
    Step 1
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select
               My Certificates
Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them is marked with a red "X" as expired or invalid, delete it. Also delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name, whether valid or not.
    Now select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL.
    Next, select
                Passwords
in the Category list. Enter "ids" (without the quotes) in the search box in the toolbar of the window. Delete all items of type "application password" that have a name beginning in any of the following ways:
                ids:
                IDS:
                com.apple.ids:
Quit Keychain Access. Log out and log back in.
    Step 2
Hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (some may not exist):
              Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd
              Caches/com.apple.Messages
              Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
              Containers/com.apple.iChat
              Containers/com.apple.soagent
              IdentityServices
Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in.
    Step 3
Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
              Messages
Note: you are not moving the Messages application. You’re moving a folder named “Messages.”
If Messages now works, delete the Messages folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Messages again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place.
    Step 4
In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files having names that begin with any of the following strings:
              com.apple.iChat
              com.apple.ids
              com.apple.imdsmsrecordstore
              com.apple.imessage
              com.apple.imservice
Move them all to the Desktop. There may also be a file with the name "com.apple.imagent.plist". Move that to the Trash.
Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
Log out and log back in. Test again. This time Messages should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes Messages to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Messages again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post your results.
If you later decide that you don’t like the results of Steps 3 and 4, you can undo them completely by quitting Messages and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup.

If you are running iTunes 11 - make sure that the iPad is not being seen in iTunes and do it like this. Enable the sidebar. Launch iTunes and from the menu at the top - View>Show Sidebar. Once the sidebar is enabled, connect the iPad and see if it appears in the left sidebar under the devices heading. If it does, then you can restore the iPad using iTunes and you might even be able to backup before you restore.
iTunes: Restoring iOS software - Support - Apple
If the iPad is not being recognized in iTunes, you will have to use recovery mode which will also erase the device. Recovery Mode is mentioned and linked at the end of the article above.
    Additional Information
If your device is continually restarting, not responding, or showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, place the device into recovery mode and try restoring again.

  • Itunes 11.2.2 not responding

Recently updated to 11.2.2 and since then my itunes keps timing out with the spinning wheel and is constantly stuck, not responding, any advice please apple ?
This is not good, i have re loaded it 3 times and still no good.............

    Hi jamesfrancis42,
The first thing I would suggest to troubleshoot your iTunes issue would be to create and test using a new iTunes library. This article describes how to do so -
iTunes 11 for Mac: Use multiple iTunes libraries
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12166
If iTunes behaves in the same way with a new library, you can continue to troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Why Apple is silent about 4s wifi getting greyed out and not responding to this issue? many ppl suffer from this and this is absurd!

Why Apple is silent about iPhone 4s wifi getting greyed out with iOS updates 8.0.2 and 8.1 and did not respond to this issue officially? Many people are suffering from this affected service. How can you trust us to buy new iPhones when you stop supporting us with the ones we have since they are still upgradable to the latest iOS.
Is there any chance that we will be given the support and would this issue be fixed with any upcoming updates? My iPhone when its battery is drained totally and I start it again the WIFI works until I try to choose another network or somehow I disable it then blackout!
This is definitely a software issue that we never had problems before this update.
Show us that you care for your products at least and provide us with a solution please.

    nartal wrote:
That doesn't help at all.. I can only have it enabled if the battery gets drained out totally then when I restart it the WIF is on. then back greyed out.. that is not a serious reply, really!
Yes, it's a serious reply. Did you actually read the information at the link I posted? Especially the last sentence? The fact that it appeared when you updated to iOS 8 has no bearing on the validity of the article. It is not specific to any version.

  • Imessage internal error on start up/not responding - mac

    Hi,
Unfortunately I'm having another problem, this time with the imessage application.
When I open the app, the imessage window does not open up. When I double click the application it says "application not responding" I then force quit. One forcing the quit I try reopening the app, the same thing happens again!
I changed the preferences for the app to open at login, so when I shut it down and reopen it 'has to' open. But this does not happen and a message appears 'internal error' or something like that and then it quits on me and suggests I reopen the app. I did reopen it the same issue still occurs.
The only time the app opens is when i get a notification of a message from the notification centre, I click to open. It only opens up normally after like 15 minutes of waiting and works fine. But when i quit the app the same original problem occurs.
    Looking forward to any suggesting
    Thanks
    Katherine
