IMessage Lag?

So, I recently updated my iPhone 5 from iOS 6 to iOS 7 and I was able to send and receive texts and iMessages instantaneously. Now, it is a bit of a hassle. If you swipe to the left on the screen in iMessage, you can see the individual time stamps of your messages. I am not sure if this is a bug in iOS 7's iMessage or if this is a hardware problem. Essentially, if both parties are either on the network (Wifi or Cellular Data), then of course all texts are sent instantaneously as iMessages. However, if one person is off (as I show in the picture as me being in green) and one person is on, then there is a distinct time delay in when I actually receive the message. Note below that I sent my mother a text at 20:38 but it wasn't until I turned iMessage on that I see that she actually responded two minutes earlier at 20:36. Both are iPhone 5 running iOS 7 and "Send as SMS" is turned on. Any ideas as to how to fix? Both are iPhone 5 running iOS 7 and "Send as SMS" is turned on.

Hi there hcouv,
You may find the information in the article below helpful.
iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
If you still can't send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that the contact you're trying to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your device as new.

  • Iphone 4S Imessage Lag.

    Hello,
I do not have a lot of time, so if this been asked again I do apologise.
One of my questions was about sync/back up and restore but thanks to Allan, all is answered.
Question I have right now is, why 2-3 days into using my Iphone 4s (16gb, Vodafone, had it for nearly 2 weeks now) all of a sudden Siri stopped working - She kept saying something on the lines of sorry, this is unexpected, i cannot help you right now. I would try to send any messages they wouldnt go through and just get stuck on imessage and wouldnt allow me to send as SMS only copy option available - only few hours later, after a phone call, i got a massive push of messages, mainly from my partner who is also using Iphone 4s but on Orange.
Since than, everyday my iphone, if left in standby longer than 5 min, later collects all messages I get, and pushes them 30-60minutes later in one go. Or if i send a imessage, or make a phone call or use internet, only then i receive the messages. While i use messanging everything seems to be fine.. like Iphone4s antenna goes to sleep mode or something if I dont.
My iphones battery life is as bad as my 3gs was, which mean.. it just gets me from 12 to 20-00 with 30% left - although i am bit heavy on messaging with my
partner and her battery life isnt much better.
Frankly, I dont really care about battery as long as it can just about last a working day, I have plenty of chargers at home, charge overnight, and about to buy a charger in car - and i spend a lot of time in the car so battery is not my concern. What does annoy me is this silly message delay - this problem I never had whilst using my 3GS on the same 5.0.1 OS.
Can this be fixed somehow? I tried multiple restores. Only thing left to try is having phone restored to new - just need to write down notes, as some information very important.
Shall i give up and take it back to vodafone and ask for replacement, or take it to apple for diagnostics?
    Please advise.
    Kind regards
    Igor

Also, I noticed the same lag with iMessages while I am on home wifi :/ so perhaps it's a hardware problem?

  • Am I the only one with iOS 8 iMessage lagging

    I'm sure I'm not.
Every time I open my iMessage the keyboard slowly pulls up onto the screen.  It started doing it since I updated to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5S and now it's still on my iPhone 6+.  It also seems to lag while I'm sending a text and I'm receiving a text at the same time.  The new message coming in disappears down behind the keyboard.  Small issue but it's starting to get annoying.  I hope Apple fixes this bug with an update soon.  iOS 8 in general seems to lag a lot more than iOS 7 so far.  It's not just iMessage.  My "Paper" Facebook app also went crazy after the iOS 8 install, I just deleted it because of that.  It was updated for iOS 8 but didn't work.
Or is there a fix to this already?

No, same here.  I notice the same as you describe, sometimes I think the message I'm sending disappeared, but in a couple seconds it sends and shows up.  Plus, when in a message chain if I receive more messages (from the same person), my messages arrow in the top left will indicate that I have unread messages (example (2) ), I have to go back to the main message screen and back into the same chain I was just in to clear the (2)... strange since I already read those messages.  Seems like a message syncing issue, worth reporting to Apple.

  • IMessage lagging, freezing

My iMessage has been super slow recently. It keeps freezing and slowing down. If I try to send multiple messages in a group they will take a long time to send. Also, I will open a chat and it will take awhile to load the chat, and then will only show the most recent message. If I close out the app and then open it back up sometimes it is better but sometimes it's not. I find myself shutting off the iPhone often to give it a rest.
Could it be the group chats? If I have a few group chats, does that clog the memory?
Is there a cache that can be cleared in order to speed up the performance? Any tips to increase performance?
    Thanks!
    Mike

    Another thing it could be...
When was the last time you restarted your phone?
When I say restart I mean held the lock button and swiped to power off, let it sit for a minute, then held the lock button to power it back on?

  • IMessage Lag Issue

I have an iPod touch, the person I am trying to contact has an iPad.
Whenever I receive a message from the iPad and I tap the notification, it will say the message was sent approximately 2 hours earlier. Does anyone know why:
    a) the notification would be sent late
    or
    b) It would take so long for me to receive it.
Also, we are in separate time zones.
Please reply. If you have any questions I will reply soon.

EMail the person and ask them to tell you when it was sent. It could be due to the zone difference.

  • Iphone 4, ios5 upgraded, issues with iMessaging.....activation unsucessful, no associated telephone number, just email.

    1. upgraded to ios5
    2. activated iMessaging
    3. get message saying carrier may charge for activation texts - never received these - no matter how many times i try to activate
    4. keeps saying activation unsuccesful
    5. allows me tho, to sign in with apple id
    6. recipients receive iMessages in their text inbox but from my email address
    7. if i sign out of apple id cannot use iMessages
    8. iMessages has defaulted to email address, not telephone number as it should
    9. if i try to add another email adress it will alow me but there is nowhere anywhere at all for caller id
    10. i cant delete that email adress as it is the primary one that im signed in with as my apple id
    11. i have done a hard restore, ive turned all my notifications, imessaging, face time off then turned phone  off and on again....
    12. considering a restore thru itunes
    13. also considering a DFU
    14. and finally considering flushing  the bloody thing!!
    can anyone help?

iMessage is a strange one for me too...
When I first activated it, it would not show up texts I sent or rcvd on both my iPhone and iPad.. just iPhone... I played with this for a long time before changing the "Caller ID" setting from within iMessage settings... NOT the one in the phone settings...
After I chose to use the email (Apple ID) assigned to iMessage the syncing worked! this doesn't change the fact that my regular phone number shows up to non iOS5 devices I text... very strange for me too...
it does work however I had to change that setting in order to get it to work...
As for cant activate... I had that issue at first but after first day it worked fine...perhaps network lag or iMessage lag due to too many users in at once...

  • Phone lagging when using imessage

When ever I am in a group imessage, my phone "freezes and lags". Any idea why? Does this happen to anyone else?
    Using iphone 5 on Verizon.
    Thanks
    SS

Do you have a large number of messages?
If you can afford to get rid of a few conversations, that can always help.
Is your phone on the latest software?
settings>general>about>software version. should be 6.1.4 If not, backup and then update through itunes.
you can also sign out of your imessage and then back in..
    good luck:)

  • IMessage & SMS 5.1 lag

This only started recently & it happens with both iMessage & SMS. There is a noticeable lag receiving messages. When I am sending someone a message or when I have their messages open instead of receiving them as usual on my screen I get the little number on the top left screen. Ill select it & after takes me to message list it says there's new message in the same messages I had open. It's almost as if it's like a refresh button like on Internet explorer.

It just happened now actually. Someone sent me a text message & while I was answering their first the number top left showed up as they had sent me another message. Instead of getting it then after I hit send & went back to message list it showed up. Ill answer one & then while answering I won't get the other they sent until done sending the first. It messes up the conversation & puts things out order. Someone asked a question earlier & while I was answering instead noticing they texted back to say nevermind I send answer & ugh it's annoying

  • Lagging iMessage

I've looked around everywhere, and every time I look into a discussion about "lagging imessage", all it talks about is delays on sending and receiving messages. That is not my problem, though. My problem is this: Every time I open a message, iMessage or text message, everything loads, and I can still click the home button and everything, but any inputs I do to the screen it's self don't load until 10-15 seconds after.
Therefore, every time I open a message, I have to wait 10-15 seconds until I can start a reply to any message.
This doesn't only occur when I first open the message though, it also covers whenever I open the magnifier to change the spot where the courser of the text is at. It lets me go to wherever I need to go, then once I let go of it, that is when the lag begins.
    Side notes:
    This just started last night.
I only have a month old iPhone 5.
    I am running iOS 7.0.2.
    I've reset my device.
I've tried Hard Resetting my device.
I turned off my "iCloud documents" option, because I heard this helped others.
It is very aggravating, and I would love some assistance..

Ok, I had the same problem. Tried a lot of the same solutions to no avail.  Then I remembered I had copied something rather large to my clipboard the other day.  For the heck of it I typed a small word, highlighted it, and hit copy. Problem solved.

  • IMessage not showing contact names

I just recently downloaded and installed OS X Mavericks on my 2011 iMac and trying to get up and running with the new iMessage app. But there are two major bugs I can figure out how to fix if anyone can help me fix these problems or comment if your having the same issues that would be a big help.
1: When receiving a message from someone in my contacts list/address book, their names do not apper next to the message, but rather only their phone numbers. I have went thought the view options and selected show contacts name and also tried adding a name to the existing number with no results. Does anyone know how to fix this bug?
2: The lag time between SMS/iphone messages and the time it takes to show up in iMessage on my mac is rather long. There is about a 3 minute delay before the text message conversation shows up from my phone to computer. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Re 2).
This is a bit of a "known Issue" with no current fix.
The issue is related to the fact a iOS device seems to get the "first " push of the iMessage and that the Mac only gets "Sync" push which seems to be slower (and for some bizarre reason not always in order)
Re 1) I have seen this reported but maybe not as clearly as your post.
No-one seemed to make it clear the Contacts were in the Address Book (Contacts app) and that it seemed to be ignoring the Names for just the Numbers.
Obviously you can use the View Menu > Messages > Show Pictures and Name (or Show Names)
As you say this should link the ID or iPhone Number being used in the iMessages to the "Real Name" in the Address Card for that person.
    The options are:-
    A) You are receiving an iMessage from an iPhone Number but the link to the Address Card is not working.
If you make sure you are sending to an Apple ID what do you see ? (Apple ID or Real Name or in fact the iPhone number again)
This may be because you have lost the ability to "read" the saved data for the Contacts app.
    B) Check the Contacts app and see if it is Syncing properly with any iOS device (i.e that all items have the Name as well as an iPhone number in the Address Card.)

  • How can I get my email address off of iMessage?

Yesterday I decided to try Messages Beta but it obviously required that I use an email for sending messages.
I wanted to see it working between my iPhone and MacBook, so also entered my email on my iPhone.
Now though I want to revert it. I don't want my email address used for iMessages.
How do I remove it? I go to Messages and it says there are two places to recieve at, so I click on my email, but the "Remove" button is faded.
I thought that some messages were lagging to arrive, so I thought I'd turn iMessage off until I get rid of my email. Now if I turn iMessage back on, it doesn't do anything, it sits there saying "Waiting for activation".
The kind of things Apple are forcing us to do...I can't wait to see how little I can do in Mountain Lion...

you can try this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3735390 I posted that thread with no feedback so far. So what happens is that if you want iMessage with no email associated, strangely, if iMessage has been turned off for a while, when attempting to turn it back on, if you're prompted to enter your Apple ID password and you don't (cancel), iMessage will still activate with just your phone number as reachable contact. That's a bug I think, but well here's the trick for now

  • HELP please! my macbook keeps lagging after i transferred fonts into my comp.

i got my macbook about 2 weeks ago and recently i transferred fonts into my mac and after that when i would use InDesign, it would take forever to open up like 1 min + and when i would go and change fonts or scroll through fonts it would lag. the rainbow thing would spin for a long time.
also in iMessage when i want to change the font, it doesnt change unless i close the program and reopen it compared to when i first got the macbook, it would change right on the spot.
should i take this to apple for them to have a look at it?
also im wondering if this happens to anyone else?but when i have safari on full screen and i go to my top site page, i have to click once before being able to click on any of the grids. is this normal?

I've over 2,200 fonts installed on my 15" late 2011 MBP - while you might have a font problem (some or even one might be damaged or corrupt) I don't think that your problem is with 'too many' fonts. Although I've an SSD and InDesign CS6 opens in seconds, it should load in a matter of seconds on a spinning platter hard drive, too.
Did you install the fonts via Font Book? It will usually let you know if there are problems with any font that you install.
Disable certain fonts that you installed by using FontBook. Then activate them, one set by one set to make sure that they aren't damaged.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Imessage sent as SMS after 5 minutes

So, I recently sent what I thought would be an imessage to someone with an iphone whom I used to text frequently. The imessage never went through, and after 5 minutes it was sent as an SMS. I know this will happen when the phone is turned off, but will this 5 minute lag to SMS also happen if the user has selected to turn imessage off? And, obviously even if the user is no longer using IOS or imessage, I'm assuming the iphone's memory will at first attempt to send as imessage considering that was the service used in the past to that specific user, correct?

Also, it never had the red exclamation point. Just no delivery, then sent as SMS 5 minutes post hitting send.

  • IMessage delays. Up to 15 minutes.

    iPhone 5 user. Latest updates.
Basically. incoming iMessages can be delayed by up to 15 minutes. Sometimes I'll get a bulk of 5-10 messages suddenly appear on my phone. Sometimes without a 'Text Tone' alert..
Regardless of being at home or out and about. WiFi, 3G, anything...
Have tried with three separate iPhones now, multiple sim cards and the issue remains. The Genius at the Apple Store seemed as confused as anyone.
I have plenty space on my phone. As much as 50% space free at times. Still no fix.
Hard reboots. Reinstalled from backups. New iPhone. Nothing..
Absolutely stuck. Happy to post more info if required.
    Any ideas?

I was wondering (in my idle time) if this problem couldn't be simply related to my Apple Account? Lag between sending iMessages to my friends on other servers perhaps? I've been suffering this problem for almost 6 months now, and it's really putting me off continuing with Apple when the iPhone 6 rolls out.

  • Time lag

something terrible is the i OS 7, all interface such as big time lag and it is on iPad with retina!! It’s really sad that Apple started to do such mistakes…
iMessage is individually part, there is no iMassage on iOS 7 it's simply to say))) we have a lot of apple devices in our family and each of them have a problem with iMessage.
Safari crash , another problem... My iPad decided to reboot today himself))) ITS TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE STOP IT!!! i os 7 such as android with samsung good hardware and awful software...i disappointed

Mine does the same thing. It has to do with where it stores the music in memory I believe. It has to go to the location in memory and load all the screens and content. Same thing is true of any flash drive. In essence your iPod touch is just a big fancy flash drive.
