IMessage merging on two iphones

I have four  iPhones on one Apple ID using AT&T. Since updating one iPhone 4S to ios7 iMessages has merged my iphone with another iphone. We are seeing each other's messages. Any ideas?

I think your close I went to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and only my iphone is checked. It does have the other phone on the list but unchecked. I can manipulate the other number check and uncheck but my number is greyed out and not changeable.

It will. If the two phones are used by two different people, however, you will need to implement some careful management of your iMessage settings to ensure that you don't each receive each-other's messages. It is a much safer option to use different Apple IDs for each individual.
On iOS devices, you are able to use separate Apple IDs for iMessage and Facetime, iCloud, and the iTunes and App Stores.

  • IMessage trouble with two iPhones and one Apple ID

    Hi,
I'm having trouble with iMessage after updating both of my iPhones to iOS 6 and not being able to use iMessage with one of the phones.
    Some background:
-I have two iPhones, one on AT&T in the U.S., and one on NTT DoCoMo in Japan, both with separate phone numbers, using the same Apple ID.
-The AT&T iPhone is a 4, the NTT is an unlocked 4S.
On my 4 (AT&T), on iMessage, I have the option to send/receive as my U.S. phone number and my Apple ID. Works just like before updating.
On my 4S (NTT), on iMessage, before I updated, I was able to send/receive using my Japanese number and Apple ID. After updating, I have the option to send/receive using my U.S. number and Apple ID. My Japanese number is greyed out and I cannot select it. When I turn on iMessage, it says "Waiting for activation..." and does not do anything. Turning iMessage off and on, some times I get an error message staying that activation cannot be completed.
I have rebooted the phone multiple times, turned on/off iMessage and FaceTime, turned the Set Date & Time Automatically option on/off, and reset Network settings several times. Nothing works; iMessage will not activate on my NTT 4S. Please help!

Finally resolved this issue after months of off and on troubleshooting.
I have no idea exactly which steps "fixed" the issue, but here's what I did. None of the basic troubleshooting steps that are on here worked for me, and this is including restoring both phones in iTunes as a "last resort" step that two Apple technical service representatives suggested.
I found a post on here from user "tungddao" who suggested:
"Turn on iMessage then make a phone call to : 011+445773142076
                 With Facetime & Siri: 011+447786205094"
I called both numbers with my NTT 4S, and both numbers hung up right away. I also texted both numbers, and the FaceTime one went through, while the iMessage number did not. I then checked my SMS blocking settings with NTT. There were no blocks, but I reset the settings to "unblock all" anyway.
I was able to activate iMessage and FaceTime with my Apple ID and my NTT phone number. Halfway there.
I then turned on my ATT 4, and while I could send/receive using my Apple ID and NTT phone number, the ATT number was greyed out, which was the opposite of what had happened before, when I could use the ATT number, but not the NTT one. On my NTT 4S, I could select my ATT number, but it was stuck on "verifying" for days, and I knew it wouldn't go through.
So, I signed out of my Apple ID on iMessage and FaceTime on my ATT 4, and turned both services off. I turned on data roaming, and turned off WiFi. *This step was key to activating both services, as they would not activate over WiFi for some reason.
I turned on iMessage and FaceTime without signing in to my Apple ID just yet. They both activated successfully, and then I signed into my Apple ID on both services, and from then on, I can use both numbers and my Apple ID on both phones! Finally!
    These are my current options:
    Phone 1 (4S on NTT): Phone 1's #, Phone 2's #, Apple ID
Phone 2 (4 on ATT, roaming here in Japan on Softbank): Phone 2's #, Phone 1's #, Apple ID
Hope this helps someone out there, as this issue was real frustrating for me.

  • Separate "iMessage accounts" on two iPhones with the same Apple ID

I have two iPhone 4 handsets. One is for work and one is my private number. Currently I am using the same Apple ID on both phones, as I want to use the apps I've purchased on both devices and get my contacts from iCloud.
As I usually bring both handsets with me, it is annoying to receive the same iMessage to both phones. Is there anyway to create two separate "iMessage accounts" such that I can use iMessage on both phones, but messages sent to my work phone will only be received on my work phone, and similarly, the iMessages sent to my private phone will only be received on my private phone?

Sure, just create another Apple ID & use that for iMessage:

  • IMessage appears on two iPhones!! Help!!

    Hi
Simply to check if the SIM was locked to a carrier, one of my colleagues borrowed my SIM card for a minute. In, test, out.
After that all my iMessage conversations appears on his iPhone too!!
There is no SIM card in his iPhone, he only has access to WIFI.
This is a major bug and I sure hope this gets fixed.
We tried to reboot both phoness, but no luck.

Get his phone back, turn it off, put in your sim, turn the phone back on, go to Settings>Messages and turn iMessage off. Turn the phone off, remove your sim, turn the phone back on. That should fix things.
Don't do stuff like that again....

  • Two iPhones linked to the same Apple ID

Is there any way to have separate iMessage services for two iPhones linked to the same Apple ID? I share Apple ID with my wife for convenience of buying apps only once and sharing photo and music from one Mac. However, the my iMessages to other people seem to appear on my wife's iPhone.  The phone number is used as a Caller ID.

Use separate Apple IDs for iMessage (Settings>Messages>Receive At>tap the Apple ID at the top, sign out, sign in with a different ID).  You can still keep the same ID for iCloud (if you want to share contacts, calendars, photostream, etc.) and for store purchases (in Settings>Store).

  • I have two iPhones, 1 Apple ID can I have IMessage working from both different numbers? If so how?

I have two iPhones and need to use both with different numbers. I have one Apple ID, can I use iMessage on both phones with the different numbers? If so how

I have two apple phones too. One for work and my personal. When setting up your apple ID on the second phone under Messages settings -> Send & Receive -> you can select the other phone that has your apple ID. I haven't done it, bc need two separate phones. But i believe that sould work. Same on your Messages on you mac. But remember iMessages only works with Apple products. All your other buddies that don't have apple you won't get their sms, on the primary phone you want to use. Hope this helps

  • HT5621 When I got my new iPhone and was trying to switch everything over I accidentally set up a new icloud account with one email and had one on my old iphone with another account. Does anyone know how I can merge the two accounts?

When I got my new iPhone and was trying to switch everything over I accidentally set up a new icloud account with one email and had one on my old iphone with another account. Does anyone know how I can merge the two accounts?

You cannot merge Apple IDs but you can go to Settings > iCloud and 'Delete Account'.  When prompted to turn off documents and data, choose the only option which is Delete from my iPhone, but on the other prompt for Contacts, Calendars, etc you can choose 'Keep on my iPhone'  Then once the Account is Deleted form the iPhone, log back in with the correct Apple ID and choose Merge when prompted.  This will merge your data from this iPhone with that iCloud account effectively putting your devices on the same account.

    HI
I was trying to take my Mac air to factory default settings.
I've done all that it says in the documment i was following, and them during the process it asked me the APPLE ID.
I put the apple id i have in my iphone. But it's not the one... it's said that i don't have any OSX associated with it... so it can not install the OSX.
    So what can i do?

  • HT4847 I have an iphone and ipad, how do I merge the two icloud space together

I have an iphone and ipad, how do I merge the two icloud space together

Your iCloud account has 5GB space for email, for calendar and contacts syncing, for iWork documents and for iOS backups - all these live on the sever. Both devices access the account; the 5GB space they make use of is the same and is on the server. It's not a case of two spaces, one for each device.

  • Merge contacts from two iPhones

Hi! I own two iPhones and I need to merge contcat from the two phones. iCloud contacts updates smoothly bewteen the two devices, but I also have ciontact stored in two different "exchange" servers (one in each iPhone) and I would like to merge them alltogether. any suggestions? Thank you

If you're using Outlook for these exchange accounts, you can try exporting the account's contacts as a vcard file which can then be uploaded to iCloud (or Yahoo, GMail, etc.)  There are also apps you can put on your iPhone to export your contacts as a vcard file, and I'm pretty sure these will export contacts from Exchange accounts even though the contacts don't actually reside on your phone.

  • Merging two iPhone accounts

I'm trying to merge two IDs on two phones but I'm going to convert one phone to the same ID if I convert that phone to the new ID ,does all my information on that phone go away? I'm just trying to merge two iPhone contents from each phone.

You can't merge Apple IDs.  You can use a new Apple ID on your phone (in Settings>Store for example) and it will not delete your media unless the computer you sync with is not authorized for the new Apple ID (in iTunes>Store>Authorize this computer).  If it isn't, media purchased with the ID will be removed from the phone when you sync.  Any apps purchased under the other ID will continue to require you to enter the password for that ID when updated as apps are permanently tied to the ID used to purchase them (regardless of the ID set in Settings>Store).

  • Any way to link two iPhones (numbers) with iMessage and iOS6?

iOS6 unifies iMessage with your devices . . . but . . . what do you do to unify two iPhones for iMessage?? I have a work iPhone, and a personal iPhone, in the settings for iOS6 you can add multiple emails, but only ONE phone number. Any way to link more than one phone? Would using the same Apple ID work?

To those having the problem of un-linking your phone from your wife's phone, etc . . .
I am NOT linked with my wife's phone because she has a separate iCloud account, even though we use the same Apple ID for apps, music, etc. with iTunes. You can have a distinct and separate Apple ID for iTunes vs. the one you use for iCloud. Same setup on my daughter's phone.
My problem with my other personal phone may be that I have downgraded my phone to upgrade the rest of the family when I got my work 4s. My personal phone is now a 3G, and there is no iCloud or iOS6 for the 3G. I may have to wait until I upgrade to see if I can link them with the same iCloud account . . . and have iMessage relate to both.
On the same topic, I assume that this linking only works for iMessage, and NOT other text messages received from non-iOS phones/devices? Curious if I am correct on this.
When I had a work Blackberry, I had an app called txtforward on the Blackberry, that would send me an email to my iPhone (personal) when I got a text on my work phone. It made it much easier to not have to carry two phones. Have not found such an app in the app store to date.
