IMessage not responding

I had stupidly tried sending a message with a ridiculous amount of characters while trying to spam a friend and my messages app crashed. When I tried relaunching it all I get is a blank screen. So far I have tried: closing the app in task manager, hard restarting, turning my phone off and on, and restoring my phone, all of which have failed. What else can I do? Thanks.

Hope you've learned the lesson, try restore from backup

  • Imessages Not Responding

I recently upgraded my 2014 retina macbook pro with Yosemite and not my imessages is not responding.  When it is open it uses 100% of the CPU and freezes.  I can only force quit the application.  Usually it shows when I get a message even if its not open but that is not the case now.  I was wondering how I could fix this and is this related to anything else that I need to worry about.

    Back up all data.
Quit Messages if it’s running. Force quit if necessary. After each of the following steps, restart the computer and test. If the problem isn't resolved, quit again and go on to the next step.
    Step 1
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select
               My Certificates
Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them is marked with a red "X" as expired or invalid, delete it. Also delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name, whether valid or not.
    Now select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL.
    Next, select
                Passwords
in the Category list. Enter "ids" (without the quotes) in the search box in the toolbar of the window. Delete all items of type "application password" that have a name beginning in any of the following ways:
                ids:
                IDS:
                com.apple.ids:
Quit Keychain Access. Log out and log back in.
    Step 2
Hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (some may not exist):
              Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd
              Caches/com.apple.Messages
              Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
              Containers/com.apple.iChat
              Containers/com.apple.soagent
              IdentityServices
Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in.
    Step 3
Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
              Messages
Note: you are not moving the Messages application. You’re moving a folder named “Messages.”
If Messages now works, delete the Messages folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Messages again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place.
    Step 4
In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files having names that begin with any of the following strings:
              com.apple.iChat
              com.apple.ids
              com.apple.imdsmsrecordstore
              com.apple.imessage
              com.apple.imservice
Move them all to the Desktop. There may also be a file with the name "com.apple.imagent.plist". Move that to the Trash.
Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
Log out and log back in. Test again. This time Messages should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes Messages to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Messages again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post your results.
If you later decide that you don’t like the results of Steps 3 and 4, you can undo them completely by quitting Messages and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup.

  • Macbook Pro iMessage Not Responding

Hi, I have a problem. I always used iMessage on my Macbook Pro but for some reason for the past month it hasn't been responding. It will work for a couple seconds but will slow down my computer and I can hardly do anything. The loading circle goes and then when I right click I have to force stop it. I haven't found any results on how to fix it. Please help!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

When you log into you icloud account on your computer you are viewing data that you sync to icloud not the backups.  You can't view the backups.

  • Imessage internal error on start up/not responding - mac

    Hi,
Unfortunately I'm having another problem, this time with the imessage application.
When I open the app, the imessage window does not open up. When I double click the application it says "application not responding" I then force quit. One forcing the quit I try reopening the app, the same thing happens again!
I changed the preferences for the app to open at login, so when I shut it down and reopen it 'has to' open. But this does not happen and a message appears 'internal error' or something like that and then it quits on me and suggests I reopen the app. I did reopen it the same issue still occurs.
The only time the app opens is when i get a notification of a message from the notification centre, I click to open. It only opens up normally after like 15 minutes of waiting and works fine. But when i quit the app the same original problem occurs.
    Looking forward to any suggesting
    Thanks

    Hi evan191,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has some steps you can try if your messages aren't sending as iMessages:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
If you still can't send or receive iMessages
Ensure that iMessage is turned on in Settings > Messages.
To send and receive iMessages, your device must have a valid cellular or Wi-Fi data connection.
    iPhone: Troubleshooting Cellular data
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
iMessage registration validates your Apple ID for use with iMessage. If you are unable to activate iMessage, follow this article.
If an iMessage cannot be sent, it will be resent using SMS or MMS, depending on the content. You can turn this behavior on or off in Settings > Messages > Send As SMS. Carrier messaging rates may apply.
Verify that the Apple ID or phone number is listed in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.

  • ICloud-server not responding

Hi, after having worked fine for long time, after a vacation this July "access to my mac" doesn't work any longer on my MacPro: saying that "iCloud-server is not responding".
At the same time, iMessage (but NOT the other iCloud-linked services) stopped working, demanding a new login at the start, but without succeeding in re-login and re-registering.
But this problem appears only with my MacPro (2008), not on my MBP (2013), my iPad 2 and my iPhone 5 when used in the same Wifi Network (home). So, I don't think that the problem is with the router settings (upnp allowed). All iCloud services work fine on the other three devices.
Anyone having the same problem lately?
Anyone having a solution for this?
Thanks in advance and best greetings.

I have found the solution for all of you interested: after I had have installed a new logic board, my Apple Reseller has forgotten to re-serialize my Mac Pro about 2 years ago. Only now, this had consequences - see my question above. The solution was "easy"...: I asked my Apple Reseller to re-serialize (= re-introduce the old/first serial number written on back of device) - and there we go: iCloud-server responding normally and so do. Back to my Mac ("Zugang zu meinem Mac"), iMessages and FaceTime which were down lately, probably due to some silent change Apple has introduced lately...

  • I have 2 people in my contacts that I'm unable to text. The SEND button does not respond

I Have 2 contacts that I'm unable to text to. The SEND button does not respond. Other contacts will send message.

    Hi Gaylene1949,
So the issue is isolated to two contacts only.
There are a couple sections in this article for troubleshooting contact specific issues.
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
If you still can't send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that the contact you're trying to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
    and
If you still can't send or receive SMS, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact who's trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that you're using the area code with the contact's phone number. When sending messages internationally, you also need to use the contact's international code.
If you're using a "Pay as you go" SMS plan, make sure it has enough available balance. Contact your carrier if you're unsure of your SMS plan or the available balance.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact from the Contacts app. Send a new message to the contact.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • 'send' icon on imessages not working

I have the ipad 4th generation and was able to send and receive imessages. Now I can easily receive messages but not able to send messages. I can type it up but when it is time to send it the 'send' icon is not responding. What can I do to rectify this problem

Thanks Demo for the suggestion. I contacted Apple & they told me to reset my iPad & that worked. However when I restore from my backup it stopped working again so I had to reset again and manually put my stuff back on the iPad. Thankfully my iMessages is now working again.

Why not just create an Apple ID for her and then you wont have any problems. Login on iMessage and Facetime using her ID and do the rest with your ID. It will work i tried it on my iPad

  • Messages not responding

My "friend" was being an idiot, as usual, and was sending me hundreds of messages on iMessage really quickly. There was no problem at first, but then I went over to chrome for half a second to look up something, and then when I came back, Messages was completely frozen. I force quit and then tried to reopen it as you usually do when an app ins't responding, but then it wouldn't reopen. It would just sit there and use ~100% of one of my CPUs and just say not responding. I also looked at my phone and iPod who recieved the texts and managed to delete the conversations entirely. I am unable to do anything with the computer version and don't know of any way to fix it. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

My iPhone 4S is not responding. It is on but my alarms won't go off, I cannot access my settings, wifi is not being detected but it says there is no intent connection when it's on 3G.
