IMessage not working between iPhone 4 and iPhone 5?

Hi,
Three friends of mine have recently upgraded to the iPhone 5. I'm still on iPhone 4.
Since the switch over, iMessage has stopped working  between my phone, the iPhone 4 and their's, the iPhone 5.
iMessage still works to my other friends on their iPhone 4's....
Can someone explain/help fix this please? We all live & work in bad reception areas in the countryside so having iMessage work to send messages over wifi is super important!
Thanks so much,
Jen

  • Group Messages Not Working between Android and iPhone Users on iOS7

    Hi there,
I am a former iPhone user.  I recently converted both my line and my wife's line from the IPhone 5 to a Motorola X Android phone.  We kept our same phone numbers, but we completely switched from Verizon to AT&T.  I have noticed that text messaging works perfectly on an individual basis when I correspond with individuals who have the iPhone, but Group Messaging is not working correctly.  I am able to send messages to a group and they receive them just fine, but when they respond back to me, I do not receive their responses (as it appears they are going through as iMessages).  My wife is having the same issue on her phone.  After doing some detective work, I have found that hundreds of other users are having the same issues on their smartphones when they make the switch from an Apple product to an Android phone.  There are a variety of "bug fixes" listed on the web, but I have completed all of them and I am still having the same issue.  Here is what I have done so far...
*Factory reset both of our phones and removed the SIM cards (since we are with a new phone carrier)
*Changed both of our apple ID passwords
*Removed both of our phone numbers from Apple's database all together
*Unregistered both of our iPhone products with Apple
*Had all of my friends/family switch SMS to "On" in their Settings tab
So now what?  I read one post on an Apple forum that said that they are aware of the issue and we can expect a fix in a future iOS update...but when is that going to occur, if at all?  It is problems like these that led me to leave Apple all together, and here I am after having left the company, and I am still left high and dry searching for solutions to my problems.  Who can help, and how can I remedy the situation?
Anything you can provide to help out would be great.
    Thanks.

There are reports of iOS7 altering the settings on iMessage's connection to the iPhone. Verify that each of the iPhone and the Mac is receiving on the "channel" (phone number or email address) on which the other is initiating iMessages.

  • IMessage not syncing between MacBook and iPhone

Normally, my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.4.9 w/ standard hardware) and my iPhone (iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2) sync iMessages perfectly. Recently, I turned my MacBook off for the weekend and was messaging solely through my iPhone. When I turned my MacBook on again and launched iMessage, I noticed that the conversations were not synced between the computer and phone.
I've already tried the fix suggested here, and I got the notification, but the conversations didn't update.
All messages sent since the MacBook was turned on again have synced between both the phone and computer, but messages sent during the weekend only appear on my phone (the device used to send them). Any suggestions?

    Hi,
You are leaving conversation "open" (still displayed) in Messages when you Quit ?
If you closed off all the chats and conversations in Messages you will need to re-connect to the people involved for the app to then display the previous part of the conversation.

  • IMessage not syncing between iPad and iPhone.

My mom got an iPad and she is having trouble with iMessage between her iPad and iPhone. On my iPad when I go to messages settings and it shows how I want to iMessage, it shows my cell phone number first then my email address second. So when anybody iMessages me I get it on both my iPhone and iPad. On my moms iPad in the messages settings it's showing she sends and receives iMessages through her email. Her cell phone number associated with her apple  id isnt showing up. When she gets an iMessage its only showing up on her iPhone. Not her iPad. How do I fix this? I honestly don't know how I did mine. I think it did it automatically.

If you go on the iPad and look at Messages in Settings, what do you see in Send & Receive? You might try turning off Messages and then wait a minute and turn it back on. If you log in with the same Apple ID, it should automatically populate the phone number. Then check the phone and see if you can see in Settings>Messages that you have Text Message Forwarding.

  • IMessages not mirroring between Mac and iPhone

Trying out Messages like everybody else!
First I signed in with the wrong Apple ID. Now I'm actually logged into iCloud with the same Apple ID on both my Mac and my iPhone. Parenthetically, I would like to wonder out loud how synchronization of addresses, calendar items and notes ever happened before, with mismatched Apple IDs.
The problem is that I don't see that the iMessages I send in Messages on the Mac are mirrored in Messages on my iPhone. Anybody else seeing this? It makes me wonder, whether this is beta behavior or whether I still don't have everything configured correctly.

Actually even now its operation seems to be sporadic in success.
Below I have 3 different devices setup with the same credentials (using [email protected] as the Apple ID and caller ID).
    1. Test One, I started a new conversation on Messages on the iMac, that message gets synced over on the iPhone but doesn't make it to the iPad.
    2. Test Two, the Second message was typed on the iPhone and syncs through on all devices.
    3. Test Three, the Third message was typed on the iPad, this message gets synced on the iPhone, but doesn't make it through to the iMac.
So all devices prove to a point that they are setup for the same account but have limited success in syncing through to the other devices.
I know this is only Beta, but I'm worried that such a fundamental flaw in the system causing intermittent syncing of messages across devices is technically a catestrophic failure at the end of the day, imagine a real world situation where I'm sure I had a conversation, but until I check several devices, I can't be sure what was said just in case some messages didn't sync through!?!?!    That has the potential of making the service completely useless if you can't trust the accuaracy of your message history!!

  • IMessage not syncing between mac and iphone

I recently upgraded to Mavericks (10.9.3) and iMessages no longer sync between my iPhone and my Mac Pro.  I've checked the Support data base as well as Google and have followed the recommendations to check preferences on all devices and to restart all devices, but that doesn't seem to have solved the problem.  Messages being sent from my iPhone 4S simply don't show up on my Mac.  Can anyone provide assistance/ideas??

Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so.
Sign out of iMessage on the Mac:
Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
    and on the iPhone:
Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out
    Then, on the phone, tap
Use Your Apple ID for iMessage
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test. If there's no change, you may have to wait for a change in network conditions.

  • Imessage not working, both ipad and iphone

I've been using imessage for the last few weeks, and suddenly a few days ago i stopped being able to send texts as imessage. aswell, i stopped recieving messages that were sent to me using imessage (they just dissapear into cyberspace). this problem is not just on my iphone, but on my ipad too. im wondering if it has something to do with a problem with my apple id. i can still facetime from both devices.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

first, turn off Send As SMS. This will ensure that your iMessage will only get through as an iMessage over Wi-Fi and not as a regular SMS charged by your carrier.
And ask someone to send you iMessages on your iPhone. Don't use your iPad. Let's try to isolate the problem. You can do further reading about iMessage activation in here: http://iphone-and-i.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-activate-imessage-in-iphone-4s.h tml

  • Continuity not working between iPad and iPhone

I have an iPad Air and iPhone 5 S. Both have been upgraded to iOS 8 and both are on the same wifi network. I do not get any notification of incoming phone calls on my iPad when my iPhone rings. As well there is no option in the wifi settings on my iPad to activate the personal hotspot on my iPhone.

Alright. It's convoluted, but it works.
Settings>iCloud. Sign out on both devices.
sign back in to your apple I'd with your original email address: NOT YOUR @me OR @icloud ADDRESS.
once those are done, go down to settings>FaceTime. Make sure the apple ID signed in is the same Apple ID that you just used. Again, not your @me or @icloud address.
lastly, there should be a toggle in FaceTime settings for both that says "iphone cellular calls". Switch it on. If it's not there, reboot your devices and try again!

  • Airdrop does not work between Mac and iPhone

    Hi,
i have an iMac 27" late 2013 with OSX 10.10.1 on it and an
iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1.1 installed.
Both have WiFi and Bluetooth turned on.
The iPhone can see all other iPhones around me but neither my iPhone nor alle the other iPhones can see my Mac and visa verse.
I could not yet test if the Mac is able to see any other mac in Airdrop because i have no other Mac around.
I already did a PRAM reset but that did not help.
    Any suggestions?

I think you have to be running the same OS on those two devices in order for AirDrop to function properly.
Aidrop is pretty much usless unless you are in a need to transfer files between your macbooks and iMacs and vice versa; how many average OS users have two macbooks or two iMacs????
But that's why a great number of Apple users would like to transfer their stuff from their iPads and their iPhones to their Macs every day. I really hope this is on the to-do list by Apple, otherwise it would be shame not to have Airdrop that is cross-platform functional.

  • Handoff not working between iPad and iPhone

i have installed ios 8 on both my iPhone 5 & iPad 4th generation. They are both on the same wifi network & both have Bluetooth switched on. In settings I have made sure hand off is switched on.
I can make a regular call on my iPad but that's where the continuity seems to end. I don't see a button to open Safari on the lockscreen when it is in use on another device, I cant pass a half written email from one device to another, or see Pages documents etc. I'm at a loss.

I know it can be frustrating sometimes when things aren't working well but I must say  I think you are being a bit unfair. At the end of the day Apple are a business not a charity. I'm sure they love being able to survive being the company for rich people.
"I have to BUY A NEW COMPUTER TWO YEARS LATER to use your shiny new "killer" app??"
The two year old computer you have works fine, you don't have to update anything. You survived without the "Killer app" prior to it's release.
Also they have released a brand new operating system that they will give you FREE OF CHARGE that is backwards compatible to the iPhone 4s. Thant's a pretty good effort considering they could quite easily not bother.
Complaining that a phone company is just "another money hungry capitalist maw" and that "EVERYTHING THEY DO is designed to make you keep spending more and more money" seems a bit naïve. It's like complaining that politicians are only interested in getting votes. It's what they do.
I'm not trying to start an online fight. It just seems like a waste of energy getting angry about a tech company. Why not switch to another make of phone. Life's too short to be getting angry about stuff like this.

  • HT6337 handoff not working between MBPR and iPhone 6

    tried everything

I got a similar problem. Phone calls, SMS work fine, even Handoff works fine one way, from my iPhone (5S) to my MacBook Pro (13" retina late 2012), but not the other way. I literally tried everything, no idea whats wrong.
Edit: all devices run the latest (final) os versions.

  • Photos not syncing between Mac and iPhone since update to Photos on Mac.

Ever since I updated to Photos on my Late 2013 macbook pro retina, photos are not syncing between it and my iPhone 6. Both are updated to the most recent software update. Photo stream is on. Does anyone have this problem or know a solution?

You will have to go the the Photos tab in iTunes when you connect the iPhone.  Then reset the photo sync options.  They were reset with the upgrade to use iCloud by default, but you can change the settings back to sync folders, just like before.

  • Polarioid pogo printer not working with ipad and iphone

And I can not believe how that truly *****... I am traveling through the states and bought the pogo to print on the road... Only to find out that it does not work with ipad and does not work with iphone... Unless I jailbreak my phone which I don't really want to do...
Apple wants us to go mobile and clouding and all those things, yet, when we do go mobile and try a mobile life style, we are encountering so much technical crap that we loose the will to live...
I could have spend the hundred dollar for the pogo to have pics printed out in every kiosk in the country...
WWhen is Apple going to come to its senses about little life savers like the pogo and bluetooth???????
Is anyone aware of a work around so I can print on the go? And a solution that does not involve a programmers brain because my single braincell is not working while traveling... It needs to be easy!

To cut through all the rage and anger and "knowing" who wanted what, the Pogo has been out for a year or so, well before Mr. Jobs' passing, and Apple did not make any mention of supporting printing on anything other than Airprint compatible printers.
Since Airprint is a Wi-Fi/ethernet thing, Polaroid would have to make a significant redesign to the Pogo.  Considering that the first iPhones only supported Bluetooth headsets and Apple didn't provide any indications about increasing Bluetooth support, Polaroid's decision for the Pogo to be Bluetooth was obviously not with iOS devices in mind.  This is why initially Polaroid had links on the FAQ to tell Apple to add Bluetooth printing support (so that in effect, asking Apple to pay for the expenses to make the iPhone compatible with the Pogo, rather than Polaroid paying to make the Pogo compatible with iOS.)
I come from a photograpic background.  I got the Pogo as soon as it came out.  I quite literally was on Polaroid's website every day checking to see when I could order it.  Having "instant" sticker prints is wonderful at family picnics with all the kids.  While it would be great to be able to get Pogo prints from anyone's iPhone, I stopped holding my breath when Apple announced Airprint, which came well after the Pogo was released.  So I took that as the sign that it was probably never going to happen.  (I knew that the Pogo wasn't iOS compatible when I bought it so not having compatiblity is not a deal-breaker for me.  But, yes, it would be nice.)
I now use a Polaroid Z340 since it's a 14 megapixel camera that prints larger 3x4 Zink prints.  Polaroid makes the GL10, which is basically a Pogo using the same printer as the Z340.  But it's still Bluetooth only.   So while I sympathize with the desire to have a really compact portable printer like the Pogo, iOS compatibility just does not seem to be on the horizon.  IMHO, it would be more realistic that Polaroid create an app to do Bluetooth printing.  But considering Polaroid's financial issues, I'm not holding my breath
