IMessage not working. Can't add mobile number!?

I had never use IMessage before, ever. Only a few days ago did I turn on iMessage which then it said "waiting for activation". I then texted a friend and it was an iMessage BUT she said it was coming from my email. This is really annoying my friends and myself, and it's using up my data on my phone which I have to pay for. I've read related discussions, and have tried everything possible. I've restarted my phone. Signed out and back into Apple. It still uses my email and it does not show my number nor does it let me add my number. All it shows is my email as my address, then underneath says "add another email address".

This may have worked for you, but for a growing number of people, it's not working for us.
-We have no option to select between our phone number or email
-We have no caller id selection option
-Recieve & Send only has the email listed (phone # is greyed out and can't be ticked)
-Signing in and out does nothing
-Resetting network settings doesn't work
I'm thinking some of you were just lucky and it started working on it's own again after you did reset the power and what not. For the vast majority and the 290,000 plus views from this topic alone, it isn't working.

Both you and the recipient have to have active data connections, and both devices have to have iOS 5 or higher to be able to use iMessage. Also, they both have to have iMessage activated. If that is already the case, there is a possiblility that iMessage is down. It has gone up and down several times in the past week. Having a lot of issues manipulating points on paths in Illustrator CC - this is a fundamental feature of creating vector graphics and it's very annoying I'm paying for this and it's just not working. Eating up a lot of my time simply because I can't select or convert or add the anchor.

Presuming we are not just talking about more or less hidden Anchor Points as in View>Show/Hide Edges/Bounding Box, you may try to start on the following list (5) seems unlikely in this case).
You may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps (the following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file; 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder Other options (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

If someone addresses an iMessage to an email address that you have selected under - you can be reached by iMessage at, the reply will be from that email address.

You do know with absolute certainty he, that the mic does not work at all? Have you tried recording a video with sound to test to make sure that the microphone isn't working?
if you have tried recording a video with sound and that did not work, have you tried any troubleshooting steps at all? Have you looked to see if there is any debris covering the mic? Or do you have a cover that could be interfering with the microphone?
you can start with a reset of the iPad if you haven't done anything else. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time, for about 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears on the screen. When you see the Apple logo on the screen, you can let go of the buttons and let the iPad start up. Try the microphone after the iPad starts up again.
You could try restoring the iPad to factory settings and see if that recovers the microphone for you.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
It is also possible that you could have a hardware issue which you will not be able to resolve on your own. If you cannot find any other way to get the microphone to work you may end up having to take it to an Apple store and let an Apple genius evaluate the device.

BTW- Your profile shows you have iOS 6.1.4 installed. The max iOS for an iPad is 6.1.3. iOS 6.1.4 is for iPhones only.

IMessage not working even after 'fix'

My iMessage on my iPhone 4 is not working. Phone is updated to most recent update. Sends iMessages to some people but not others and the people who I cannot send to also can't send to me, regardless of being on wifi or mobile network. I have tried the turn off imessage, reset network settings etc but still no improvement. Would be very helpful if anyone could give me some advice?

Macrumors posted a solution for this. I used it and it seems to have worked for me.
Here's what they said:
1. Turn off iMessage in Settings > Messages
2. Reset networking settings in Settings > General > Reset
3. Reenable iMessage in Settings > Messages

Here's how I fixed the issue.
I did an iCloud backup
Did a full reset
Restored backup and guess what.... it didn't fix the problem.
However.... here is what did fix the problem
I went into Settings --> Messages
Listed under the "Send & Receive" button it only showed one address listed.
On the 'You can be reached by iMessage at' it only had my email address there with a check mark. My phone number was unchecked but i couldn't check it for some reason. So what I did was click on my Apple ID at the Top and choose view account. Entered in my password and that made the phone number show as checked. Then I started getting iMessages on my iPhone again. If that doesn't work. Click on Apple ID at the top and choose LOCATION

The wish list only works on apps you have to pay for. To get it tap the icon of the app you want to save. After it opens at the upper right corner is a box with a arrow. Tap that then tap add to wish list list in the box that opens.

Edit: Some of us don't have the option of resetting our DNS servers. I run my own for example for caching purposes.

Imessage only works to other folks who have a device on ios5, and who have activated i message. In their set up, theyndeclared one or more specific 'receive at' addresses. Are the folks you are trying to reach on apple devices with i mesage? The red exclamation means, i think, that the apple server did not find that address as registered.

iMessage not working on new Macbook Pro. Issue began after I downloaded latest version of Mountain Lion. After every message it says delivered then immediately a red circle with exclamation point says message not delivered. Any ideas?

I can also no longer text on my computer or iPad. Fine on iPhone. Same as you - I can see everything up until a specific day. But I didn't do any kind of update where it should have stopped. And it stopped working on my computer and iPad at the same time.
