Imessage on 2 phones?

my wife and i updated our verizon iphone4 with ios6, but now we see imessages on each of our phones intended for other people. i went to settings/messages/send&receive and her phone number, email, or apple ID is not linked to my phone. the problem has not resolved. fwiw, shes the primary account holder for the phones- does that mean she has the "administrative power" to change this (lol, lack of a better term?)
ps: ive called verizon and they told me to update with *228 but i doubt that the solution. anyone encounter this before? thanks

TechCrunch posted a solution today that applies to this problem, I think.
    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Click your old iPhone and "unregister" it.

Hello I send imessages to a phone number I receive delivery notice but sms does not show on receiving phone. Otherwise when receive imessage from other phone I reply and receiver sees SMS !!! Any explanation ?

To my knowledge, I've only seen this for imessage only and not SMS.
The other users would need to have send read receipts enabled on their phone.

  • I have two iphones, personal and work.  Same icloud account.  Now i get my imessages on both phones.  I dont want that.  How do I stop it?

I have two iPhones, personal and work.  Same iCloud account.  I updated my work phone last night.  Now I get my imessages on both phones.  Incoming and outgoing.  No matter which phone I use.
Help, I do not need my work phone to have my personal text.

    Settings>Messages>Send & Receive...edit on each phone here.

  • Using iMessage on separate phones on one iTunes account

I have 3 x iPhone 4 on one iTunes account - each being used by a different person.  Is it possible to use iMessage on these phones without them receiving each other's texts?

Yes, use separate iCloud accounts. You can still share the same ID for purchases though, or use Family Share for purchases.

  • If i have an iPhone and an iPad on the same apple id, what do i do to NOT have my iPad get the imessages for my phone?

If i have an iPhone and an iPad on the same apple id, what do i do to NOT have my iPad get the imessages for my phone?

    On the iPad:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Uncheck your phone number from both sections
    To turn it off completely:
Settings > Messages > turn off iMessage

  • How do you combine iMessage sent to phone number and email?

I talk to someone who sends me imessages to my phone number from their phone, and also from their ipad to my email. Both phone number and email are under the same contact. But the mesages go into 2 different threads. Id like to combine them since being under the same contact they show up exactly the same in the messages list.. so i cant tell if im messaging the ipad or the phone..
ideally id like to write a message to that contact and it would go to both their ipad and iphone...
anyways.. how do I combine them?

This is possible and you can also send and receive iMessages to your MacBook from one phone number without having to use any email address whatsoever. This also means you will have one chat thread with all of your messages not two.
Anyone will tell you that I am a hardcore Apple Fan, however, sometimes they lack in the instructions area. For a while now I have had a problem with iMessages being sent from my MacBook. I could send an iMessage from my phone with no problem and my friend would receive it from my phone number however, the problem would arise when I would send a iMessage from my MacBook to to the same friend and a new thread would be created, so in essence she would have two different messages for me, one from my phone number and one from my email. After numerous attempts of contacting Apple Customer Service with no avail, I eventually figured it out on my own. I did aggrate some friends because I had to send messages relentlessly. In the end I found a solution and here are the instructions.
You’re going to go into iMessage on your computer, go to messages in the top left, click on preferences and then click on accounts. Look under “you can be reached for messages at” you should see your email and or your phone number.
If you do not see your phone number you need to add it to your account at this site. “https://appleid.apple.com/” click on manage your Apple ID and then sign in. After you sign in you will go to another screen and on your left you’ll see a list of choices click on phone numbers. Add your phone number and click save changes. It usually takes a few seconds for your iMessage account to update. Completely quit iMessage in the toolbar and then reopen it and go back into messaging preferences and then accounts.
After that has been done your phone number should now be added to the “you can be reached for messages at” section. Click on your phone number and then uncheck your email address.
Then go into your iPhone settings, messages, then scroll down to send and receive. Uncheck any email, only your phone number should have a checkmark, if your phone number does not have a checkmark... check it. You should receive a pop-up on your iPhone saying so-and-so’s MacBook is now using “insert phone number here” for iMessages.

  • How can I connect my imessaging from my phone with the imessaging on my macbook?

I want my imessaging from my phone to correlate to my computer.

Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so.
Sign out of iMessage on the Mac:
Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
    and on the iPhone:
Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out
    Then, on the phone, tap
Use Your Apple ID for iMessage
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test.

  • Help removing imessage from a phone number no longer being used by an iphone

Hi everyone. Hoping for some help with a bizarre issue. I switched from an iphone 3gs to an android a few months ago, but when some (not all) friends w/ iphone's text me, it tries to send it as an imessage from their phones. I  don't receive the texts for hours at a time. Is there something I can do to prevent this? Or is on their end? This has even happened with people who I have exchanged numbers with well after I made the switch from iphone to android which I find particularly weird.

If you still have your 3GS put your SIM back in it and turn off iMessage.  If you don't have it but you did register it with Apple, do this:
    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in
    Click on "edit products"
Click on the "x" to the right of the product
    Click "unregister"
    This deactivates number with iMessage.

  • How can I only receive my iMessages to my phone without it going to my iPad as well?

Didn't know which forum this would go to, so I figured I would ask. How can I only receive my iMessages on my phone without it going always to my iPad, without turning iMessage on my iPad off?

Go to Program Files - Windows Searchqu Toolbar. Then click on uninstall app. It must be good. This s--- doesn't appear in the ADD/REMOVE PROG.
if you can't escape from him, go in partition C and search "Searchqu" and delete everything that shows you the "searchqu".

  • All of a sudden this morning my iphone will not send imessages from my phone number but only from my email address. When I go to the settings for my imessages to choose where they are coming from my phone number is greyed out....Is there a way to fix this

All of a sudden this morning my iphone will not send imessages from my phone....

    Hi Chas869,
Hmm, that is strange that your phone number is greyed out. There are a few things that we can try. First would be to turn iMessages off, then back on. See if you are able to select your phone number. Then if that doesn't work, turn iMessages back off, then reset the network settings....settings>general>reset>reset network settings, this will reboot the phone. Don't worry, it won't delete anything from the phone, it simulates a battery pull. Once the device comes back on, then turn iMessages back on. Keep us posted if that works!

  • HT204053 In Messages, my phone number is in gray. Why cannot I be reached in iMessage using my phone number?

Why is my phone number is gray... indicating that iMessage will not work on my phone? It has always worked. I changed my Apple ID password and now I do not have iMessage on my phone. Any ideas? Thank you.

Mine has been acting up all day like this.  Was perfectly fine last night.  Grey bubble for texts sent to me, and blue bubbles when I send text to iPhone users.  This morning, without doing anything different to my phone other then texting, it was green bubbles when I send to iPhone users.  And no replies ALL DAY.  I texted Android users I know, and they received my texts, and I received theirs.  Just when I got home, I finally received a text from my brother.  But when I replied back, it was still a green bubble.  But he tells me, it's blue for him when he sends to other iPhone users.  Yes, iMessage is turned on.  Short of resetting my phone to factory, I've done all the troubleshooting involved with fixing iMessage issues.  All of it.  No luck.

  • I had an iphone 4s and it worked nice with facetime and imessage using my phone number but  it was stolen on December so I buy a new iphone 4s using the same cellphone number  but now imessage and facetime does not work with my number, it only works with

I had an iphone 4s and it worked nice with facetime and imessage using my phone number but  it was stolen on December so I buy a new iphone 4s using the same cellphone number  but now imessage and facetime does not work with my number, it only works with my apple ID.   Please Help me I speak Spanish so  if my English is not ok  I´m sorry about it.
Do you think that apple has to   reset in their database of the old serial number attached with my phone number and that’s why I can´t activate imessage and facetime with my number in the new iphone 4s??

I understand all of this Meg; that is why I bought an Iphone; but never expected my phone not even give a at least a 24 or even 12 hours....I work 12 hour shifts and also would expect to have to charge each night but not twice a day or more.  I am not always somewhere I can charge my phone.
Your points are true; however it doesn't help me......

  • If I set my phone to receive Imessages with my phone number ONLY, will that prevent someone else from having them sent to their device?

If I set my phone to receive Imessages with my phone number ONLY, will that prevent someone else from having them sent to their device?

If I'm correct, as long as someone is logged into your Apple ID, they can receive your messages. If you think someone else is using your Apple ID, change your password.

  • HT1766 after i delete an iMessage on my phone, is it deleted permanently?  How long are they saved on the backup?

After I delete an imessage on my phone, is it permanently deleted?

Yes, the message is permanently deleted.
However, these messages are retained in your latest iTunes or iCloud backup.  If you need the message back, you can restore the contents of your iPhone using that backup.
