IMessage only comes through on MacBook Pro
Hello,
Basically, if I start a message on my phone through iMessage, I would expect to see the reply on my phone (as well as my laptop when I get home).
This is not the case. I sometimes don't get any replies through my phone but when I go home, they all appear on my side bar of my MacBook Pro!!!
I have set it up so that I can only be reached by my phone number (in the iMessage preferences on Mac) and no E-Mail address is ticked.
In saying that, on my phone, it is set to 'You can be reached by iMessage at:' my phone number, 2 E-Mail addresses (personal, iCloud and @me).
I have no clue what is going on but basically only want to have iMessage on my phone all the time and only working with my laptop when it is in use.

No error as such but a message saying 'The registering device does not have appropriate credentials'.
However, I have got the correct details and tried a million times and can login to this page with the same details.
In the console I see the following:
[Warning] Empty account query with service: iMesssage
Killing auth hosts
Session **** destroyed
Session **** created
Not sure why it thinks the account is empty as there is definately something typed in.

hello all,
i wanted to post about a bug i am experencing on Messages app under os x mountain lion...
when someone tries to send me an imessage with a picture it only comes through to my iphone and ipad but not my laptop.. OR it will come through on my computer but not on my iPhone and iPad
This issue is intermittent it will basicly work when it wants to....
also upon closing imessage i get a message saying there is a file transfer in progress... when i review file transfers it shows any picture file that my friends have attempted to send to me but dont download.... It seems that the picture is trying to download but never does.
anyone else have this problem?Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so.
Sign out of iMessage on the Mac: Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out.
Sign out on the iPhone: Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out.
Then, on the phone, tap Use Your Apple ID for iMessage.
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test.

I tried that but on my iphone i can only click on my email and my number is checked but its in grey doesnt allow me click on it and on my Mac, its the opposite, my email is checked but in grey so doesnt allow me to click on it. im realy confused

If you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and you use iMessage, you can use it in your Mac if you want. OS X Mountain Lion includes Messages, that allows you to use iMessage.
First, check that your computer is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If so, open > About this Mac, and see what OS X version you have:
10.5 or older: you have to upgrade first to Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
10.6 or 10.7: open > Software Update, and install the most recent version. Then, open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion.
10.8: you are already using OS X Mountain Lion, so open the Messages app.
While OS X Mountain Lion is being downloaded, make a backup of your files and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
If you aren't referring to iMessage, you can't send text messages in your computer -
I have an email account causes the machine to hang up after being in use for a day. It only occurs on my Macbook Pro and only one particular account. The problem account works fine on my iMac and Windows Machines. I have been to the local Genius bar and through trial and error we have determined that Mail is working ok but somehow the account is causing the problem. I have used this account for years. Any ideas what is causing this?
No idea why, but one thing you may try if you have the time, is create a new user, and set up the problem mail account in the new user space. See if it causes your MBP to hang as well. That will tell you if it is something wrong with your main User, or something wrong with MBP.
Assuming this works, I'd nuke the problem account in your main user space, re-start, and reinititate the account and see if that helps.
Depening on how many email accounts you have setup, it may be necessary to nuke the whole Mail folder in your User/Library.... Hard way to get it to work, but just my idea. -
Is there a keyboard shortcut (or a custom keyboard shortcut) to close notifications that appear from iMessage, ical, etc. on a macbook pro - the notifications that appear on the top right of the macbook. For example, I do not want to go to my trackpad and click "Close" on the notification. I simply want to trigger a hotkey or keyboard shortcut that will close the notification as I see it.

By upgrading to OS X Lion 10.7.2 or higher (required for iCloud). First check to see if your system meets the system requirements to upgrade.
Lion system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space

If you can run Mountain Lion, you can purchase an upgrade from the Mac App Store. If you can only run Lion, contact the online store in your country and purchase a download code to download it from the Mac App Store.

How do i find lost contacts after i installed ios5 through my macbook pro?
I upgraded my iphone by syncing through my MacBook Pro. When it finished all the messages and original contacts as well as games and software were deleted. It even took away my wallpaper which was a picture of my grandson. I am really upset!
Did you perform the update on the computer you normally sync to? Did you get any errors during the process? Did you wait for the restore to complete after updating? Were your apps in the iTunes library BEFORE you started the update? Were you syncing your contacts to a compatible address book or cloud service?
We need more information to even begin to guess what happened. -

Theres almost a trick to it for first time users, goto SETTINGS...General......Cellular (if Verizon) ....Personal Hotspot, turn it on.....turn on wifi on your Mac, select your Iphone. Enter password.
If you take too long doing it, youll need turn turn off and on real quick the "personal hotspot" slider on the Phone.......then go quick again thur the Mac. -

Hello All. This is ASIF MALIK from India. I tried many time to update my iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1 through my MacBook Pro but every time I recieve an err=-3259 or err=-3156 etc. errors. I was highly disappointed by doing this from passed 4 days gone maaadddd.
But TODAY I tried it updating my iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1 through MY HOME PC Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit after downloading iTune 10.5 & Guys good news is that I UPDATED my iPhone 4..... The plus point of using my windows 7 ultimate PC, even i got the same error twice or thrice but I REUME ALL & then I got the result. I don't know what was the problem updating with my MacBook Pro but FINALLY I SUCCEDED:-) ENJOY GUYSjust try downloading the *.ipsw file and then update the phone. Setting up new ipad 2. Won't accept my PW for my Airport Extreme (Wi Fi network?) Where is the PW for my Wi Fi? I am stymied. Can I set up through my MacBook Pro, which IS connected to my WiFi network?
If you could provide the make and model number of the modem that the AirPort Extreme will be connecting to, we can likely tell you a bit more about what to expect in the way of getting the AirPort set up and working.
Unfortunately, "plug and play" does not apply here. You will need to set up and configure the AirPort Extreme using your iPad or iMac to name the AirPort as a device, assign a device password, name the wireless network, assign a device password and a few other things.
Once the AirPort Extreme is set up, you can connect the PC to one of the LAN <--> ports on the AirPort Extreme using an Etherent cable.
The iPad and iMac will connect to the wireless network that the AirPort Extreme provides. -

FaceTime can run in the version of OS X that you currently have. To get Messageyou need Mountain Lion. The protocol used by Messages is iMeassage.
