IMessage photos keep disappearing

I'm finding that my iMessage photos keep disappearing. Both my sent and received photos turn into an image of a question mark. How do I prevent this from happening? Restarting my iPhone / closing out completely of messages does absolutely nothing.
Any ideas? Thank you.

Hey tmgater,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues sending pictures via iMessage. A quick troubleshooting step for this symptom is to turn off iMessage, power cycle your device, then re-enable it. For additional troubleshooting information, check out the following resource:

  • Photos Keep Disappearing

    Hi,
I've only recently started using iPhoto '08, and twice within the last week I've lost my library. As in, all the thumbnails are there, but when I click them I get that big exclamation point. So I'm now in the process of rebuilding the library again. I understand that this is because iPhoto has lost the connection between the thumbnail and the actual picture. My question is, Why? Why has this happened twice now and what can I do so that it doesn't keep happening? I have hit "Show Package Contents" on the iPhoto library before, but I haven't actually moved or changed anything. I haven't messed around with anything. It worked last night, and now it doesn't work today. Very frustrating. Any idea why this is happening?

The "!" problem happens when there's an interruption while iPhoto is writing to its database file, Library6.iPhoto. The tip at the end of my signature below describes an Automator workflow application that will copy that dB file to the Pictures folder. You can use it like you would the Save command in many other applications, often. iPhoto doesn't have to be closed to use it, only idle.
If you then experience another "!" problem just replace the dB file inside the iPhoto Library with the latest copy (that's why it's important to use it frequently). Put it in the dock and click on it after every import or change to a slideshow, book, etc.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Why do my projects and photos keep disappearing?

So I've imported a bunch of photos into Aperature, and into a specific project and then I leave thre program and re-enter the project and the photos are no longer there, I just get a untitled project with no photos in it. Any ideas? I've lost over 1000 photos and have no idea where they've gone.

So after the subscriptions disappeared yesterday, I resubscribed to Democracy Now! and Bill Moyers Journal.
This morning, I went to check iTunes... and two of the subscriptions were gone -- AGAIN! And the episode of Democracy Now! that remained behind was now listed under real Tim with Bill Maher.
I'm getting so frustrated with this... why am I having to re-subscribe to podcasts every day now?

  • Why do my downloaded photos keep disappearing?

Hi......its me again! Thank you for your previous help Lt. Leviathan.
I managed to download photos from my laptop to my ipod touch 4th gen. Your instructions were brilliant, and it all worked a lot easier for me than I expected! My problem now is that I can download one folder fine, but when I download another one its deleting the previous one!?
This is what I am doing........I select a folder to Sync. The bullet mark shows in "all folders " (can't change as "selected" is greyed out). I click on "apply". Once everything is synced I then hit the Sync button bottom right of screen. I check my ipod and all pics I want are there. I then choose another folder and do the same thing, but when I check my ipod all the previous pics/folder have disappeared!.  Any ideas what I am doing wrong please?
Also I tried to create an Album title for each set of pics, but how do I actually get the pics into that album............thats when I can get round the above problem of course!
Thanks for your help.......I know I am a frustrating woman!!! lol.

    Thanks for your reply.
Can I get this straight in my mind? Does this mean that I will have to put ALL the photos stored on my Laptop into ONE  large folder, then divide it up into sub-folders? Then I can copy each sub-folder?
Sorry to sound stupid, but most things I try on my ipod don't seem to work for me. I think I am getting a bit old for all this.....lol.
.......Actually thinking back, a while back I did click on my main folder called "Nikon" and that did copy everything in it, but just in one whole lot, ie 1,000 photos.........................so nothing was sub-divided into folders, ie. holiday 2010, holiday 2011. Is that another problem I have created for myself?
    Thanks for your patience.

  • My iMessage photos have disappeared

    Hi
So I just opened my iMessage, was prompted to sign in which was odd,  and realized that all my pictures, sent and received, are gone!!! All my messages seem to be there but instead of pictures, there are white boxes with questing marks in them! I didn't delete them nor have I set my messages or pictures to expire, in iMessage settings. I still may have some of my sent picturesin the photo app... But not my received photos! Can someone explain this and how to get them back please???

If you synced to create a backup (or backed up to iCloud) while these photos/videos were still on your phone you could try restoring your phone to this backup (which will revert all settings and data to those contained in the backup, not just photos).  If you have already synced again since losing your photos this won't work as your backup will have been overwritten.
To do this, prior to connecting your phone, open iTunes and to to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Next, connect your phone and right-click on its name in iTunes on the left sidebar and select Restore from Backup, choosing your most recent backup.  When done, you can go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing.

  • Why do my photos keep disappearing

Okay  I am now on my second Macbook air, and for a second time my photos just start disapearing. No not allat once but every once in a while I go bakc and check events and sure enough some of them have now disappeard. When I say disappeard I men the thumbnail is still there down at the bottom, but when I scroll through the event a big black screeen with a excvlamation point in a silver triangel appears.  Yes I have been backing up but when I bring back my old library from months ago same deal.
This has never happened on my wifes Mac dek top or our previous HP Desk top, so nit sure what to think, two laptops same thing.

This indicates a disconnect between the Thumbnail and the original
this can be caused by two things
1 - User action deleting items from inside the iPhoto  library - can be directly - can be from the All images list (never delete from there) - can be from running cleanup software like MacKeeer, CleanMac2  or other dangerous, defective software that improperly deletes or changes things in the iPhoto library - if you have done any of these things you must restore your backup from before you did them and damaged your iPhoto library - and I recommend getting rid of any "clean up software" ASAP (although being essentially MalWear it is not easy)
2 - corruption of the iPhoto library - If it is not #1 then Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your database

  • Photos and photo albums disappeared, but iPhoto library still has 60 GB.

Photos and photo albums disappeared, web gallery titles remain but show (0). iPhoto library still has 60 GB size. How do I retrieve photos, events and albums. Thanks in advance.

Are you getting an "!" in the window when you try to edit a photo. The "!" means that the library has lost the file path to the original file. This happens when there has been an interruption to iPhoto while it is writing to it's database file, Library6.iPhoto. Moving, renaming files or folder inside the library package while in the Finder is another way you can get that indication. Try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. • Photo subpages disappearing from album page in iWeb 2009

One of the pages of my website is an album page. Theoretically, an album page should allow multiple photo subpages. Initially my album had two photo subpages. Now, however, I want to add additional subpages.
The problem I'm encountering is that these new subpages keep disappearing. Every time I quit and reopen iWeb, the original two subpages and any subpages created in the last session are present, but any subpages created in earlier sessions have disappeared. The disappeared subpages show up in the column of created pages on the left-hand side of iWeb, but they do not appear in the album page, and all photo content for the subpages has disappeared (although formatting and text boxes are unchanged).
I've tried multiple strategies to get around the disappearing page problem: duplicating existing album subpages, adding a new page within the album, adding a new page outside the album and then dragging it into the album, deleting the iWeb plist file and restarting the computer the page.
Any ideas how to fix this?

  • Some photos have disappeared!!

My mac froze so I turned it off and rebooted it, and when I reopened iPhoto afterwards, more than half of my photos have disappeared from the Library. I went to the iPhoto folder in the Finder and it shows all the pictures are still there, in their dated folders. When I tried to import them back into the Library, it comes up with an error saying that they're already there ... even though they aren't showing up. What's wrong, and how can I fix it?

    callmezoe:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Unless you have a backup of either the iPhoto LIbrary folder or the Library6.iPhoto database file you've lost that library are it was. The dB file has been damaged. You can try rebuilding the library but I don't hold much hope for success. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
If that doesn't work you'll have to create a new library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title.
Once this is completed you can delete the Originals folder from the desktop and the iPhoto Llibrary folder. If desired, you can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup. See the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?

  • Why do my footnotes keep disappearing on my new Macbook Air?

My footnotes keep disappearing on Microsoft Word, on my Macbook Air. I have only had the computer (and Word) for a week or so. Do you know why this is?
The footnotes do reappear when I close the document and reopen it, but it means I am unable to work uninterrupted!

I agree with -Sheridan- that this is an AutoRecover issue.  I write a lot of Word documents with footnotes and never had the "disappearing footnote" issue until I switched to an iMac and MS Word for Mac 2011 (which I bought together in December 2013).  I tried changing the footnote line spacing to "exact".  I tried unchecking all of the Word compatability rules.  None of that worked.  And, the footnote disappearance happened, like clockwork, at the same intervals as AutoRecover was saving my document (every 10 minutes), whether I was typing anything or not. I could tell when it happened because my document text and inserted photos would suddenly shift out of place and my footnotes would disappear.  (This only happens with footnotes of more than one line).
I also agree that it is safer to have AutoRecovery on, but I did not want to have to close out my document and reopen it (and realign the text) every 10 minutes so I turned it off.  I hope the maintainers of MS Word for Mac will see this and fix this obvious bug.

Thanks...I have tried the various options and the only item of interest is that my only account on this computer says it has 102 gig of memory used up.  However, when I open and look at the individual files, they add up to less than 15 gigs.

Before the long winded uninstall / reinstall hoopla, did you just try trashing your preferences? Might be all you need. You can do it manually of course but the free Preference Manager tool from Digital Rebellion handles it easily plus allows you to create preference set backups and more : http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
