Imessage seems to be missing files or something.

Yesterday I was having trouble getting imessages to work so I followed all of the suggestions in https://discussions.apple.com/message/19635377#19635377  topic which none of it had seemed to work.  Today I got imessage to work how ever I cannot change the settings, cant close any windows it might open the section that has my list of conversations are blank (I can still change convestations by guessing were they are on the blank area).  Does anyone know how I can possibly fix this?

  • Time machine missing files

    Timeline
    1. 11 days ago I buy a new 15" retina haswell macbook pro running mavericks, and a new 2TB time capsule.
    2. Yesterday I returned the macbook pro because it was making creaking noises and had it replaced with a new one.
    3. Now I try and restore my backup.
    Story
I restored from my latest time machine backup by pressing CMD-R while booting and specifying to restore from the Time Capsule. It took a couple of hours over wifi and finally restored, when I came back to it, the machine had rebooted and I was at my normal login screen.
So I thought the restore had been successful at this point and I log in, however it asks me for my Apple ID login as if i've never entered it before (I have), and I have some new mavericks icons at the end of my dock that I had previously removed. I open up my terminal (i'm a web developer) and I notice its missing my custom prompt (oh-my-zsh) which I track down to the .zshrc file missing.
I check my databases and they are all corrupted. The MySQL error file is constantly spamming itself saying the data is corrupt and that it might be missing its binlogs. A number of my apps don't remember that they are licensed. The machine has forgotten most of my preferences such as tap to click, however it has remembered things like my desktop background and my safari preferences (they were not synced from icloud I made sure).
I dig into this a bit more by mounting the time capsule and having a look around in the terminal.
    cd /Volumes/Time\ Machine\ Backups/Backups.backupdb
    ls -lah 2013*/Macintosh\ HD/Users/jon
This prints out the contents of what the backup considers my home folder to be like at every backup (there were 23 backups stored over the 10 days). First backup being on the 2nd of November, most recent being on the 12th November.
I see that from the 7th my .zshrc went missing, it was not in any subsequent backups after that, so I tried restoring back to that date. After restoring my terminal preferences are back, but the databases are still corrupt and I notice other things missing instead.
I dig into it a bit more and list the files again.
Then I notice just how bad it is.
On certain backups it has missed massive numbers of files, including directories such as Downloads Library Desktop etc. Then they come back in the next backup, or go missing forever. I know time machine doesn't backup the entire computer each time, but I know that it should be creating HARD links in the filesystem, so that EVERY backup appears to be a complete system backup. This is not the case.
I can rebuild this new macbook pro to have everything I need on it again, but I CANNOT trust my £250 Time Capsule to take backups, in which case it becomes an extremely expensive router + hard drive.
I think this might be a bug in Mavericks, 10 days is not very long for backups to start going astray!
Is there any way I can repair this somehow? Has anyone else had this kind of problem? I phoned apple support and they just tried to guide me through doing a re-install, when I explained that the backups themselves seemed to be missing files the support agent just didn't seem to understand, not very helpful at all. As a fellow engineer I would prefer to speak to another engineer and I could provide all the diagnostics they could want, short of giving them ssh access.

Sorry to hear about the same bug on your system, seragan.
I would suggest the following, if you still can find an older TM backup that has a full data set:
    - Export all your current local ("On my Mac") mailboxes from Mail to a safe place
    - Quit Mail and manually replace the whole folder ~/Library/Mail/V2 with the one from the last good backup
    - Start Mail, and then reimport the mailboxes you exported previously
    - Manually move the appropriate emails inside the "Import" mailbox-hierarchy to the correct mailboxes
This is an approach that at least would have worked for me, as my faulty local  Mail data seemed to have collected emails correctly since the first day of backup failure. ...meaning that the old, good backup plus the current state of my mailboxes would have resulted in a lossless, complete set.
(There can be another, more-or-less cosmetic, bug with Mail Import - showing numbered folders with duplicate mail which can be deleted afterwards).
To re-iterate the TM bug: Same thing also happened on my parents' MacBook. This time the missing data was a a folder inside ~/Documents.
To break the buggy backups and force TM to do a complete backup, the following worked as a fix:
    - In TM system settings, add the problematic parent folder of the missing data to the list of excluded items
    - Run a backup
    - Remove the excluded folder again from TM system settings
    - The next backup will take longer and TM does a "deep traversal" or such, and in the end all data does show up in the backup
Theoretically you could exclude/include your whole hard drive (to play safe), but that only works if there is another, secondary drive backed up also. (TM needs something valid to do a backup. If your primary hard drive is the only source for your backup, you would have to exclude/include several folders in two or more steps to cover all existing files).
In any case, the terminal command "tmutil compare" will serve well to show if anything is missing in the last backup.
Time to report this to Apple. Can we be sure this is only a bug in 10.9.2/3?

  • Firefox wants me to upgrade Adobe. However, there's a missing plug-in; something about xpi files. Is there a free fix to this problem? The ones I saw cost $.

When Firefox upgraded, it said I needed to install a newer version of Adobe. When I went to do that, I got a message that a plug-in was missing; something that needed to work with an xpi file. When I click on the link for that, it brought up some websites where you download the software, but it doesn't tell you how much it costs (only that you are purchasing the software).
It seemed that the xpi file plug-in was only because I'm using Firefox.

No, not OK! There are big security holes in the last couple of versions. My favorite place to get the latest without the extra bullyware adobe tries to stick you with is Filehippo. Install both so IE is not vulnerable too.

  • I write both JPG and DNG files in the camera.   Camera is a Leica Monochrom.   Photo, unlike iPhoto, seems to ignore DNG files and only imports JPG files.   What am I missing here?

I write both JPG and DNG files in the camera.   Camera is a Leica Monochrom.   Photo, unlike iPhoto, seems to ignore DNG files and only imports JPG files when both are present on the SD card.  JPGs are used for quick proofing on an iPad.    DNG RAW files are edited on a Mac Pro (2013).    Other than deleting the JPGs before importing images from the SD card,  is there any way to force Photo to select and import only the DNG images?

    Thanks Larry,
I did see the J stacked in the lower left of the thumbnails but couldn't figure out how to get to whatever is below it.   How do you select R?
I use an iPad to do quick proofs of my images.   A JPG is good enough for a proof ( dust on the lens,  composition, blown out image, etc. ).   The iPad is JPG friendly and can load the images quickly.    Serious editing takes place on my Mac Pro with the DNG files.   I use the same workflow with the the Leica M 240.   iPhoto has been a quick and easy importer to the Mac capturing all of the metadata in the EXIF sidecar file ( location, date, time,  camera settings, lens type).  A quick scan in iPhoto for the "keepers" let's me export those worth editing to Lightroom/Bridge/Photoshop.  I typically shoot 50 images from three locations in a normal day.  If I'm lucky I'll get 1 worth real work to add to the portfolio.

  • For all of you, who gets "missing file" error on syncing theirs photos

I dont really knows any better way of correcting this error when deleting "iPod photo cache" -file doesn't help, but here is my answer to that. If somebody knows a better solution, plase tell it to all of us.
I was getting an "unknown errorcode -39" and that "missing file" messages every time i try to sync my photos from my Windows 7 based computer to the iPad. It seems to me that there are something wrong on the iPed side but how to corrrect it (and i dont know anything on how apple works)?
Just as i was gioing to give up, i realize that there must be two caches in sync, one for sender (for itunes) and one for a receiver (for example iPade) side. Both must be in sync whith themselfs and in a filesystem on their side. Easy part is on iTunes side, just delete the cache (thats because its contents can and will be recreated using the local filesystem information only).
The other side (iPhone or iPad) is much more harder to do as there are not (or i dont have found it) any simple solution to do it. There are only one solution which i have found to be solve this problem (every time) and it is that you have to get a sync target to think that it is being sync on a different iTunes photo library (even when its empty). If this works, then you get a iTunes message saying that "are you sure?, as if you continue ALL FILES ARE DELETED when your are resynced on different photolibrary". That is just what we wanted. For myself it has worked every time, but it takes time, as you must resync it twice (once in an alien or differentt, and back to the original or updated photolibrary).
Those who knows better, comments please?

    Part 2.
Another thing that all Encore users ought to regularly offer up a daily prayer of thanks for is the PSD support for menus.
Let me tell you a little story, all about how bloody awkward it
    i can
be, again using Industry Standard "Flagship" applications.
The little saga above about the additional _HL_LB image completely forgot to mention that there is a very nasty scaling issue awaiting the ignorant (like me).
It doesn't scale the letterbox image automatically.
SO, it's a case of as usual, preparing all Widescreen assets in anamorphic mode (create & design in PS using PAR correction, reshape image to Square Pixels)
Duplicate the _HL for the _HL_LB image.
Now, because of the rescaling issue, take this into PS, and resize the image to 720x360, then resize the
    i canvas
to 720x480, making certain your background is white, as failure to do this will mean the Letterboxed SPHL are incorrectly scaled, although the button hotspots are in the right place.
Aargh - if it was not for the "Phone A Friend" option, I would still be stuck on this.

  • Time Machine and Excel Missing File

Hello, this is my first posting here and I would appreciate some help.
An important Excel file of mine just disappeared both on my hard drive as well as on my Time Capsule backup, which is really puzzling me. Here are the facts:
    1. I am using an iMac, running Mac OS X 10.5.8, with Excel:mac 2008 version 12.2.7. I religiously update both my OS and applications, so they are both up to date
    2. Within Excel, if I go to File/Open Recent, there is a dropdown of recently opened files. The missing file is shown there but the "xlsx" tag is missing on that name, oddly. The other files (which are all still there) still have the "xls" or "xlsx" tag. When I click on that file, I get that error message that the file cannot be found
    3. I then opened up my Time Machine on my Time Capsule and went scrolling back in time, and really weirdly, this file is missing in every version of backup. My Time Machine has the default backup of hourly for the past 24 hours, daily for the past month, and weekly before. I went into the folder where I kept the file all the way back to July (when I got the Time Capsule) and this file is missing from EACH backup. All other files are there.
I work on this file every day and I tend to keep it open on iMac. Usually when Excel crashes or something, it reloads with a recovered version but Excel hasn't crashed recently. I worked on this file as recently as yesterday and saved it in the same place where I've been saving it for the past several months.
OK, what's changed from yesterday to today? Last night when I updated my software there was an update from Microsoft for a security patch. Could it have detected a virus in this file and deleted this file from my hard drive and then from each and every backup in Time Machine?
The second change was that I selected "Back Up Now" for the first time on Time Machine last night after that patch. I usually had Time Machine run automatically, but while I was updating, I decided to do a forced backup. Could this forced backup have deleted all prior instances of this file if it was missing on my hard drive then?
This file is important to me, does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can retrieve it? I thought having Time Capsule would save this kind of headaches. I did a search within the backups, in case the file mysteriously "moved", but the file is just plain missing on all backups and on my hard drive. To make things worse, I Emptied my Trash last night, so I can't see if it is in there. Though, I didn't delete the file.
    Thanks for any help!

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Could it have detected a virus in this file and deleted this file from my hard drive and then from each and every backup in Time Machine?
Seems very doubtful, especially since there are no viruses that run on OSX.
There is a small amount of malware, but you have to actively participate in getting it onto your Mac.
But . . . are you running any anti-virus software? Some of it does cause all sorts of problems on Macs.
The second change was that I selected "Back Up Now" for the first time on Time Machine last night after that patch. No. A backup is a backup is a backup; they're all the same, no matter how they're started. And Time Machine only deletes things when it "thins" backups. Basically, it keeps all backups for 24 hours, except the first of each day, which it keeps for a month, and the first of each week, which it keeps as long as there's room.
So it's a bit unpredictable, but if a file is on your Mac for at least 24 hours, its backup will be kept for at least a month.
This file is important to me, does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can retrieve it? I thought having Time Capsule would save this kind of headaches. I don't use Excel, so can't help much with specifics. Is it possible this is some sort of temporary file that's either never actually saved to disk, or is saved with a different name each time?
Are all your other, similar files in your backups?

  • Missing Files not Missing...

I have all my media on an external 4TB drive which is directly attached to my Mac Mini via USB 3.0 and which my MacBook accesses through Sharing on my home network. At the moment, both computers have WiFi turned off and are directly plugged into the router. Both the iTunes library on my Mac Mini and my MacBook are set to see this drive and all of its folders and files as the source for their media in the Advanced tab.
Previously, I had all my media on two external 2TB drives with this same set up, having used TuneSpan to allow both machines to find the files I put on the second drive. Previous to copying over everything from both drives to the new 4TB drive everything was fine with both machines seeing everything they were supposed to both before and after using TuneSpan.
I will note that the two machines are using different iTunes .itl library files, with the MacBook having less content in general but also a number of songs which are not included in the Mac Mini's .itl file.
On my Mac Mini which is running the most recent versions of Mt. Lion and iTunes, everything is good, all files are seen, no problem. On my MacBook which is running Leopard and iTunes 10.5.8, there are a number of movies which have exclamation points next to them. When I try to direct iTunes to locate the missing files, it sees the files just fine but the Open button is always greyed out so I cannot select the files; these same files are found and play fine on the Mac Mini and the file sizes are the same on both the old 2TB drive and the new 4TB drive. When I recopy the file from the old 2TB drive to replace the existing copy and then again direct iTunes on the MacBook to locate the file, it will now allow me to Open it even though it's the exact same file. When it asks me if I want to use this location to find the other missing files, it goes through some process and tells me this was not possible.
If I grab a bunch of the folders for the films that this is happening with at a time and recopy them over to the 4TB drive, the MacBook's iTunes continues to refuse to see the files. Only if I individually go through and recopy only the exact file it is refusing to use will it then agree to Open and Locate the file.
This is effecting about 65 movies which vary in size from 700MB to 3.5GB. They are films from every genre, some converted from VHS, others extracted from DVD, others re-encoded from .avi or .flv and some which originated as .mp4s.
The only other thing which seems worth noting is that the video files which the MacBook refuses to Open are depicted as music files with a music note on them despite them all either ending in .mp4 or .m4v and on the Mini they are shown as they actually are with the album art as the icon.
What is going on?! Why is it doing this?! How can I force the MacBook's iTunes to use the files it sees?!

I tried something almost like you suggested, John.
The problem was, as I perhaps didn't explain properly, that the files were in places and exactly where LR thought they were (and still listed as missing!). Because I can right-click and select "Show in explorer", and the file will be shown in the correct folder.
But you gave me an idea to the simple solution:
    Select All -> Delete Photo.
Instead of Delete I chose Remove, so that the files only would be removed from LR but not deleted from the disk.
Then I could synchronize the folder with the files. They showed up again and is no longer listed as missing.
Not that they ever really were missing, but still ...

  • Event Says Missing File, Can't Remove It.

Final Cut Pro X is telling me that a file in my event needs to be relinked.  Basically it's a .psd file that i have since removed from the event.  honestly i was working so fast I dont know if i made a careless mistake but for some reason FCPX seems to think I still need to relink that file.  But the file isn't even in the event.  I tried to locate it and just delete it so FCPX would realize I don't have that file anymore.  I even tried relinking another .PSD file with the same name to just overwrite whatever it was and then just delete it but it keeps saying that the PSD File i'm trying to replace it with doesn't have the same framerate or filesize or something so it isn't compatible.  which doesn't make sense because I literally made a cloned copy of the PSD file that I had deleted.
I even browsed through the actual  event folders on the drive just to see if I could find where FCPX was getting confused but couldn't find the psd file it thinks it's missing.
can anyone help me with this absurd prediciment?

I have had problems with FCPX ever since I bought it and have discussed some of the issues in these forums.  I now have 10.0.5 and it seems to be better but have found in editting my latest project that each time I quit FCP, all my work is lost: I either get an empty grey canvas like I would if using it for the first time, or I get an accurate Events list but no timeline or I get the red "Missing File" alert in the timeline with no Event listing.  The only way I found around this was to leave the computer permanently on and FCP loaded for the duration of my editing.  All the files are in the Finder, but if I try to import them, although they are FCP files, the program will not open them (it will reimport event lists but not projects).  Only once in many quit and reopen episodes did it correctly load everthing I had worked on, but I have found today (now the project is complet but not deleted) that it is still in its bad habits.

  • Locating and reinstalling missing files in Lightroom 1.4 ....

I would like to know how to re-install missing files once you locate a missing folder or set of files, I don't understand what to do next (once you have found the files) in order to put the file back into it's original location so the files will work in Lightroom (i.e. change the "red" wording back into "white wording" in the folder column). Initially I click onto the red word and a"locate missing folder" window pops up indicating the files original location at the bottom of the window. I have tried putting that file back into it's original location but nothing changes in Lightroom.
Also I notice that the file will still be listed in the library so when I have tried to just drag that fie back into Lightroom, I am unable to because a window pops up saying the file is already in the catalog. At which point it ask me if I would like to see that file in the Library. Once I see the file in the library I have to delete it in order to re-install the original file.
EEEEKKKKKS there must be a simpler way than this just to re-locate files and make the work again ????? I have tried finding information in Adobe's support manual for Lightroom but can't seem to find the answer. I have also tried using other sources like Scott Kelby's book on Lightroom.
This seems like such an obvious problem that would occur with all users so I know I must missing or overlooking something here. I love Lightroom but this is one of the little frustrations I have with the program. I wish a better manual came with the program when I bought it......
I would appreciate any help anyone has on this topic..... Wesley Wong

    Hi Marc:
Thank you so very much!!  Your recommendation worked.  I was able to do a complete search of my computer and found that LR actually stored the originals on my external HD.  I was able to link the missing photos from there and I am back in business again!  Thanks again for the advice......you are a lifesaver!!  Still learning the ins and outs of LR, but I'm getting there.
Glad to hear it all worked out !

  • Error opening document: missing file

I have a Pages template that has started opening up with the following error box:
The following errors occurred while trying to open this document:
    Missing file: businesscircles_logosgrey.pdf
When I hit "continue", the document (template) opens up fine and appears to be missing nothing. I've searched my computer for the missing file and it doesn't exist (and I have no recollection of why I'd insert a pdf into a template anyway...)
Within Pages I've clicked in View>Show Invisibles, thinking that might reveal something. It didn't.
    Any ideas? Thanks!
PS I am running Pages 2.0

    Hello,
I had this problem a while ago with an old version 1.x file when open it in Pages 2. After some examination, it seems to appear with placeholder objects mainly (like the image you are writing about). But this was the only time I encountered the problem.
    Argelius,
try to copy the image from the business letter template with this steps:
    1) Click on the Pages app icon with holding the control key down and choose the item "Show the Package Content" of the appearing menu.
    2) Navigate to the business letter template "Contents/Resources/<YourUsedLanguage>.lproj/Templates/ISO/Stationery/" (or "Traditional" instead of "ISO" if you are using Legal and no DIN letter sizes).
    3) Do "Show the Package Content" on the letter icon and you will see a new window with all the content of the letter.
    4) Search for the image and copy it.
    5) Show your own letter document (the document should be closed in Pages), with which the error appears, and show the package content.
    6) Paste the image into the package folder.
Now the error message should not appear by opening the document. Search your document if the logo image is placed in it. If yes, have a look at the menu "Format/Advanced/" if the image is marked as a placeholder image. Deactivate this and than delete the image. Save the document (perhaps as a duplication) and close it. See if the problem is gone by open the new document again.

  • Installer won't initialize, "missing file"?

Hey all, I'm pounding my head against the wall here trying to install CS6 Design Standard on my Mac (OSX 10.7.3). I first tried to install last night, and everything seemed to be going just fine. The installer opened, I entered my serial number and selected the products I wanted to install. The problem started when my damned computer locked up in the middle of the install. I tried to restart the install multiple times last night, but I think I had to many other things going on for the system to handle and it kept locking up.
I went to bed last night without having time to troubleshoot. This morning, I try again and now the installer gives me the "installer failed to initialize. this could be due to a missing file." error. Never seen that before. I immediately thought there could be something wrong with my disc, from all the locking up last night, so I did a system-wide virus scan, verified and repaired the permissions, verified and repaired the disc using the Startup Disc Utility. I came back and the installer still gives me the same error. I deleted the entire 4GB package I downloaded from Amazon, emptied my trash bin and downloaded a "fresh" copy from Amazon. Same problem.
I have no idea what to do now. Please help.
    Regards,
    James

Any reason you're downloading from Amazon instead of from the Adobe website?
The "failed to initialize" error usually indicates that the extraction process after the download did not complete correctly. In most cases, you can re-extract to resolve the issue, but sometimes you need to download again.

  • 11.5.9 to 11.5.10 upgrade missing file error - adrelink exiting status 1

I am in the processing of upgrading our system from 11.5.9 to 11.5.10.2 on a Linux 4.5 system.
While applying patches 4337683 I ran into missing files which required me to apply patches 2214446 and 2284692. After going through the steps on both of those patches I am still getting a missing file error when it tries to relink ENCACN.
I am getting the following error:
$APPL_TOP/sht/11.5.0/lib/rwave/libstd8s.a: No such file or directory
I have searched for anything referencing this particular file and can find nothing on the web. I also noticed that I have no rwave directory and I have also searched the whole partition and that file does not exist. I must be missing another patch that I can not find.
Can someone point me to the missing patch?
    Thanks

Thanks for your help, that document worked great.
I have since experienced another issue now that is resolved. This issue is almost identical to an issue I started with originally.
    When relinking ENCACN
a couple messages about "more undefined refereces to '__pure_virtual' follow'
    /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/3.2.3/libgcc_.so: undefined reference to 'dl_iterate_phdr@GLIBC_2.2.4'
I had originally gotten an error about GLIBC_2.2.4 that was corrected by
    mv gcc gcc344
    mv g++ g++344
    ln -s gcc32 gcc
    ln -s g++32 g++
    in /usr/bin
My searches on this error seem to point to the same solution to fix this but it has been done. Is it perhaps a version problem the gcc344 and gcc32 were what I pulled from the website, are those based off of versions installed so they should be something different for my system?
    Thanks again for the help

  • "Missing files" that are not missing

I am running LR 1.1 on a Windows MCE (effectively, XP) SP2 machine. The
library panel in the library module (which lists "All photographs",
"Quick Collection", etc.) shows "Missing Files 11". However, on
checking those files in that collection:
1 There is no question mark on the thumbnails indicating that LR has
    lost track of them.
2 Right clicking on any of the thumbnails and choosing "Go to Folder in
Library" immediately shows the correct photo in the correct folder (all
are from the same folder and are Canon RAW files).
3 Right clicking on the folder name in the folder panel and choosing
"Synchronize Folder..." shows only one missing photo (which LR
persistently claims is damaged and refuses to import) - which is _not_
    among the "Missing Files".
In other words, and in brief, LR seems to think some files are missing
although it in fact it knows they are not. (I have checked they are
    present on the disk.)
For what it's worth, I usually do not tick "Include Photos from
Subitems" on the Library menu in the Library module - but even when I
did I could not get the problem to go away, so it doesn't appear to be
    related to that.
While clearly not a huge problem, I am baffled and feel I have
overlooked something obvious. Can anyone assist, please?

I really like your approach, since no XMP data or deleting and reimporting of files is needed. However in my case it does not work on all the pictures marked as missing in one folder. After copying (moving doesn't work in MacOS, since files can be located no matter in which folder they are situated, so moving them has no effect in Lightroom) and relocating the folder in Lightroom (version 1.4.1 for MacOS), only a few files (5-10) in each folder are removed from the 'missing files' list. Repeating the procedure a number of times eventually clears the list, but when there are 160 files missing in a 4GB folder, this can take a while...
By accident I discovered that there is a way to correct all files at once in one folder when this happens. After moving/copying the files to their new location and starting Lightroom, select the files in the 'missing files' list and export these files. Where or how is not important, neither is the output (sometimes Lightroom will give an error, telling you it could not export the files because they are missing, sometimes there is no error at all and the files are exported normally). What is important however, is that this export somehow makes Lightroom 'aware' of all 'missing' files in a folder and not only the first 5-10, as was the case before.
After the export, continue with the procedure as described by Bruno, so select one of the missing files and click on the question mark to point out what the new location of the files is. In my case all 160 missing files in one folder were removed from the 'missing files' list at once, saving me a lot of time and work :).
So if you also have problems with files not being removed from the 'missing files' list, here is the new procedure (new step proceded by + sign):
    - Close the lightroom library.
    - Move the picture files to a new directory.
    - Open the lightroom library.
    - Now all files will show as missing and a question mark will appear
at the right of each thumbnail. The folders will also appear in red.
+ Export all missing files in this folder, so Lightroom is 'aware' of
all missing files and will correct all of them.
    - Select a folder and click on the question mark of one of the
thumbnails to map the location of the picture to the directory in
    which it was moved.
    - Repeat the above step for each folder that appears in red.
Hope this is of help to others with the same problem :).

  • Imovie 10 library on external HD has missing files

So i was able to export my large library of home videos onto a new external hard drive. i also copied the events folder from the older version onto the same hard drive just in case something happened. I removed the external hard drive from my imac 2010 model after it seemed to be working fine. i plugged it back in today so i might be able to create a dvd of some videos which i haven't done as yet. When i opened up imovie and the library from my external hard drive, it shows a missing file image and says "name of file" is missing, try reimporting the original source media. I've looked all around the forum and internet but cant seem to find a solution. also, when i go to package contents, the files are there but the file name has an added (id) and looks like below.
Can anybody please suggest what I've done wrong and how i can fix this?

how big is the project file, how many audio tracks were there, and how long was the project?
