Imessage send&recieve addresses

Hey all,
I Have 2 iphones registered to the same user.
They obviosly have 2 different phone numbers and I want to get imessage on them separately.
If someone sends me an imessage to a phone number, I only get it on the appropriate phone as it should be.
However, if someone sends it to my email, it gets recieved on both devices.
I tried removing the email from imessage send&recieve addresses on one phone and keeping it on the other and that works - for a couple of hours.
After that, suddenly, the email is being added again as though it ges synced from the other device.
Is it a feature or a bug? Is it possible to do what I want?

  • IMessage send/recieve problem. ios 6.1.3

I'm having a problem with my iMessage. I just updated my iTouch 4th gen to ios 6.1.3 then all of the sudden i can't send/receive anything. pls help me. i tried logging in and out of iMessage but still, can't send/ receive

@diesel vdub 1st off, no need to insult a person's intelligence. The question is very genuine, and it is being asked across all forums by people all over the globe.
I have to ask how the iOS release, Quote:- "was not specific to the iOS version on the device.  That issue has since been resolved" when clearly it only occurred after the update to iOS 6.1.3 and it is not fixed. If it is who and how was it done? That information would be more useful than throwing insults. Anyone I have spoken to who have not yet updated to the new rev of iOS have no issues, but all those that have do.
The post with the "http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/ "link indicated that a fix had been given and from the comments that followed showed that people had followed whatever instruction was given and that it fixed the problem.
So, as you seem to have all the answers, kindly advise on what the fix is so as I and all the others can resume using iMessage to send picture messages.

Family of 5, all use the same Apple ID/Password/Account.  In settings/messages/send>recieve you can "check" my email and up to three phone numbers.  Essentially allowing all iMessages to be copied to shared account numbers.  Please help me figure out  how to prevent my children from recieving my text correspondence.

On the devices for the members of your family that you DO NOT want to see your iMessagees, go to
    Settings App
    Messages
    Send and Receive
You should see a list of available contacts which would make messages appear. Make certain that each family member has their own individual contact and NOT the same one that you use. I find it useful to have each family member have their own icloud email and use that for iMessaging my kids. My kids do not have iPhones, but if yours do, their phone number should be listed as well. For iPads and iTouches, use icloud email addresses. If you need to send a message to all 3 kids, say, you can just add all three emails to the To box on your iMessage.
    Hope that makes sense.

  • When i send a imessage the reciever see's it as sent from my email adress why and how do i change

when i send a imessage the reciever see's it as it was sent from my email adress rather than my phone number, why, and how do i stop this?

settings -> messages-> receive at-> caller ID ->  [choose your phone number]
The advantage of using your email address is so that imessages sync across your icloud devices.  But if the only apple device you have is an iphone, then your phone number would be the obvious choice to pick here.
Once ios6 comes out, this situation won't matter (they're fixing the sync of imessages across devices)

You might want to try contacting Apple for assistance by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click See All Products and Services>iTunes>iTunes Store>Passwords & Security Questions>Lost or Forgotten Apple ID password.  They should be able to explain what's going on and help you reset the password for the old ID if necessary.  The call should be free.

  • IMessage sends from different email addresses

iMessage sends messages from different email addresses when it used to just say my name associated with my cell number. How can I change it back?

    Try this:
Sign out of iMessage on all devices. Sign back in on your iPhone. Wait until it is completely activated. Then, sign back in on the other devices using the same Apple ID.

    Hi,
The Messages app can join 5 different services.
The "iChat Originals" that include AIM, Jabber and Yahoo (although they were added at different times to the app)
The Bonjour account that has been present for LAN based Mac to Mac chat and lastly the iMessages account in the Messages app that iChat has become.
Google email IDs can be used as a Jabber ID in Messages as Google run a Jabber server.
As the Google server does not follow conventional naming formatting it has it's own Add option in Messages.
Effectively all the services are separate.
Any email used as an Apple ID can be the iMessages account.
Of course this may be a Google one like you have that can also be used as  Jabber/GoogleTalk ID or it may be an Apple issued ID (@mac.com @me.com or @icloud.com) that will also work as a Valid AIM Screen Name.
It may be that someone has their Yahoo email as their Apple ID.

You can only uncheck the cell phone number. The only way to delete it is to use for FaceTime and Messages an Apple ID not associated with the iPhone.

    Hi lfeddrix,
You can send and receive Messages from the Apple IDs and phone numbers signed in to your iMessage section in the settings of your phone. We have an article that explains a little bit about this, and it can be found here:
    iOS: Using Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3529
This section is the most appropriate for your situation:
You can change the address that new iMessage conversations are started with in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Start new conversations from:. Note that this setting applies only to new conversations. If you would like to change the address from which messages are sent, first change this setting, and then delete the existing conversation and start a new one.
iMessage responses will be sent from the address the recipient most recently messaged. For example, a friend sends you a message to your Apple ID. Responses in this conversation will be sent from your Apple ID, even if you've selected new conversations to start from your phone number.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • Help with iPad Identifying Phone Numbers in iMessage Send & Receive Settings / iMessage Syncing Help - iOS 6 - iPhone - iPad

With iOS6, iPhone and iPad users will see that their Send & Receive iMessage settings have updated across their devices to be made available at both phone numbers and email addresses. You may have also seen alerts on one or more of your devices advising that another device is now using the same Apple ID/phone number for iMessage.
Being able to be reached on iMessage on both Apple ID and phone numbers across devices means that iMessage can keep the same thread and sync across devices.
Due to having 2 iPhones on different phone numbers running along side my iPad at one time, (whilst I was waiting for my phone number to be moved to a new provider), my iMessage settings on my iPad lost my phone number completely. I thought I would document the steps to recover this for anyone in the same boat.
    1. Check that you are signed in with the same iCloud Account on both iPad and iPhone.
    2. Turn off iMessage on your iPad from Settings > Messages.
    3. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. You should see your phone number and your iCloud email address in the 'Your can be reached by iMessage at:' list. Make sure both are ticked.
    4. At this point, I synced my iPhone with iTunes, then synced my iPad with iTunes.
    5. On your iPad, turn iMessage back on - your phone number should now show in the 'You can be reached by iMessage at:' list. Tick the phone number. You should receive an alert on your iPhone.
    This should resolve the issue.
With the above set up and with the iOS 6 updates, iMessage should now sync fine across devices however I have still found the most successful way to run iMessage is to always start new conversations from your Apple ID and to start new threads by addressing the first message to an Apple ID from an Apple ID.
To do this, go to Settings > iMessage > Send & Receive and tick your Apple ID in the 'Start new conversations from:' list, then start a new iMessage thread to the recipients Apple ID. This way, the thread will sync across iPad and iPhone. Note that a thread set up this way will not fall back on SMS, so you get a clean iMessage thread. This method also worked/works on iOS 5, as long as you send the first message of a new thread from an iPad (which can only send via Apple ID) to an Apple ID.
    Hopefully this helped someone!

ipad has no phone number, you use a same email address for both devices. and set it in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive

  • Anonymous login in sender, reciever file adapter

    hi all xi's
i dont know what is the need of anonymous login option in sender, reciever file adapter and the other thing is if i use check anonymous login there is no option for
    specifing username,pwd,ftp server ip.
    early anser will be appreciated.
    bye.
    regards.
    seeta ram.

    Hi,
when you configure your FTP server you can opt for anonymous login.
It means anyone can log on to this server just by using the IP address.
No user creation.. so ..No need for user id or pwd. i mean no authentication.
FTP connection parameters.. i.e. server n port will always be there if you are going for FTP.
It wont ask for these if you select NFS.
Being Anonymous only removes the user id n pswd option.
Anonymous login is "Never suggested"..Pretty insecure..
Dont forget to award SDN points Seeta.

  • IMessage sending as email instead of number.

When using iMessage, is it normal for it to be sent as an email? My friends with iPhones will txt me and when I txt back it starts a new conversation entirely with my email as the contact. Is there a way to set it to my phone number? When I recieve iMessages it's never an email.

Settings > Messages > Receive At > Caller ID.
What do you have selected for your iMessage Caller ID - your cell phone number or an email address?
If an email address and changed to your cell phone number, this will not prevent someone you have exchanged iMessages with to address an iMessage to the email address.

  • Will iMessage deliver to recipients iMessage through email address if their phone off etc..?

Most discussions keep saying it will revert to SMS but that is only when iMessage is sent to cell #. With email method it just sits not showing delivered message.
Will it deliver once they turn on their phone or come into range or should I delete it and just try sending it later?
Also my friend has read receipts on and all along we were texting (iMessage ) by cell#. Then one day she sent by the email address instead. I get those read receipts but suddenly if I imessge to her cell# I never get the read receipt eventhough it shows delivered. I don't think she ever got the message to her. Cell#. That method of imessaging her used to work like a charm.
I find with the iMessages to email address , during instant chat it will take 10 min for me to get her message after seeing the three typing dots.
    Any explanations for these issues?

correction... it is 'receive at'.. not 'receive from'..

  • IMessage sending from my email?

I recently switched to an iPhone 6 (from a 4s) and ever since, if I text someone else with an iPhone it generally pops up on their phone as my email address, not my cell phone number. Anyone know why and how to change it?

It has always been this way.  The iPhone can use its phone number for iMessage and FaceTime. But other idevices have to use their Apple ID.
You can change to just your phone number in settings, iMessage, send and recieive.

  • HT3529 Will iMessage send messages to non Apple phones? If so, is it automatic or do I have to keep changing settings?

Will iMessage send messages to non Apple phones? If so, is it automatic or do I have to keep changing settings?

If the recipient does not have an iOS device (or Mac) with iMessage activated on it, then it will send as SMS or MMS as appropriate. You don't need to change any settings.
The only time you'll run into an issue is sending to someone who used to have an iDevice and neglected to turn off iMessage when they got something else. They will have to address that so that you don't have to forcibly send messages as SMS/MMS.
