IMessage sending to non-iphone?

Hi there,
I've been using iMessages to contact people on my iPhone.
One of my contacts has just switched from an iPhone to a S4.
However, my iPhone still sends iMessages.
I've deleted and readded the contact several times, yet it keeps sending iMessages.
Any solutions?
Thanks.

They need to disassociate their phone number from their iMessage account.

So I woke up and my messages won't send to non-iPhones but they will to other iMessage users. Then , I go to my dial pad and I can call out to non-iPhones. This freaking ***** and I need it fixed NOW or I am switching back to android.

Did you make sure that "Send as text if iMessage is not available" is activated in Settings/Messages?

My texts are not being delivered to iPhone operators as an iMessage, only to non iPhone operators?

Check that iMessage is turned on in Settings > Messages and that the Apple ID in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive is correct, along with your phone number and email account(s).

  • IMessage with a non iPhone

My phone is using iMessage with a contact that does not have a compatable device.  This contact isn't even using a smart phone.  I have only noticed this with this one particular contact.  Occassionally, the phone will resend the message as an sms after a few minutes, but not always.  Most of the time, despite saying that the message is delivered, my contact never receives my message.  Is there a way to fix this problem without turning iMessage off totally? Thank You.

I have been reading up on this because I also saw the recent news article about stolen iPhones still receiving iMessages, even after the iPhone is wiped remotely. Apparently the iMessage server links the Iphone's unique ID to the iMessage ID.  That being said, when you godforbid go to a droid, and forget to turn iMessage to off on your iPhone, you're stuck in iMessage la-la land. So, the trick is to reactivate your # on the iPhone, turn off iMessages, then reactivate the # back on the droid. Then you will be able to receive text messages from other iPhone users without it always defaulting to iMessages. Frustrating bug to say the least, especially if an iPhone is lost or stolen!!

  • IMessage won;t send to non iPhone users

iMessage has always worked just like texting on my phone. I use ATT and would simply text from my computer and would perfectly integrate with iPhone and send messages to anyone on any OS on any network without fail. I do not have nor do I want an Aim account. I recently upgraded to MAvericks and now iMessage will only send emssages to other iPhone users. Please help make ti work just like it did with Mountain Lion and jsut like they promise it will work with Yosemite. Thanks!

You will be able to do that with Yosemite and iOS 8. Your Mac will connect with your phone over bluetooth and send an SMS message via the iPhone.
It never worked in Mavericks that way.
As KOT states, iMessages only works from AppleID to AppleID on iDevices.

  • Why doesn't my iMessage send to certain iPhone users ? And others as email address but Im on my phone?

I need help ! Why is it not letting me use iMessage with one person specifically big it sends to others with my email address not my phone number? Anyone ?

    Hi,
This has to do with what addresses you have linked with you Apple account and which you have set as a default to send/receive from. If you go to Settings--> Messages --> and note that your iMessages tab at the top is switched to "on" then scroll down to where is says "Send & Receive" and it will list something like your iphone number and any email addresses you have registered with Apple (I happen to have four addresses, 2 gmail, 1 icloud, and 1 me.com). Click on Send & Receive and whichever ones are selected are those that you will receive messages at or send from. If you scroll further down the page it says "Start new conversations from:" and you can select the one you would like to be the default whenever you're sneding from apps and the like on your iPhone.
Depending on which address a person has as your contact (and assuming that address is also listed under your addresses in the iMessage section), is why you might receive texts as just an iMessage and others an email address.
Also, if you go to Settings-->Mail, Contacts, Calendar: it'll show all of the email accounts you have associated with your iPhone and scroll down further you can see and change which is your default email account.
I absolutely loved my iPhone 4, it has been a solid workhorse and a true pleasure! I hope you enjoy yours as much.
    Cheers~

  • Messages not sending to non iphone users

I used to be able to run ALL of my messages through the message program on my macbook - including SMS messages. I upgraded from iPhone 5 16gb to iPhone 6 64gb yesterday and I can no longer run SMS messages from my macbook pro. Is there a way for me to fix this issue?

    Hi,
On the iPhone Turn Off the text Forwarding then turn it On again and then use the new Code number the Mac should show you.
    Basically reset it.
You may need to try different lengths of time before you turn it On again to prompt the Mac to deliver the Code number.

Thank you now how do I get the songs on to the flash drive?
Insert the flash drive into the other computer, and open it so it looks like a window.  Highlight the songs you want in his iTunes, and drag them into that window.
That will cause them to copy onto the flash drive, and will not affect his library.
If you normally run iTunes in full-screen mode, make it smaller so that you can do the drag.
Then insert the flash drive into your computer.  Find your Automatically Add to iTunes folder (it is inside the iTunes media folder) and drag the songs into it.

  • What is the trick to getting Handoff and texting to non-iPhone users to work?

    Hi all,
I recently upgraded to Mavericks and for the life of me I can't get Handoff or the ability to text to non-iPhone users to work. These are two of the main reasons why I upgraded.
When I try to text through iMessages to a non-iPhone user it says that I have to register the number. Not sure what that means. I have tried a variety of things from other posts for Handoff but haven't been successful. These involve resetting the network settings on the iPhone, turning on and off iCloud, pairing the iPhone with the Mac (not sure if that is required is it?), turning on and off Bluetooth, ensuring that both devices are on the same network, and turning on and off Handoff.
I am using a late 2012 MacBook Pro and an iPhone 5s.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Ed

Not sure where I need to look in Messages for my number. It is in Messages/Preferences/Accounts
Yes. Messages > Preferences > Accounts > select your iMessage account.
Is your iPhone number listed in the You can be reached at section and the Start new conversations from dropdown?
Not sure about the relay setting. How do I go about setting that up?
After I set everything up when I opened Messages it asked if I wanted to relay SMS and sent a verification code to my iPhone that I then had to enter in the prompt on the Mac.

  • How do I get imessage to send SMS texts to non iphone users?

I have read that I can use imessage to send and receive regulr SMS text messages to non iphone users; but, I can't seem to make it work.  When I try to enter a mobile number of a non iphone user in the new text address bar and send anSMS text the adressee turns red and I get the following message:
Your message could not be sent.
4342496xxx is not registered with iMessage.
Does anyone have a suggestion? I've checked my preferences and any articles I could find but so far I can't find anything that helps.  Thanks.

    Hi,
As I said the Menu Item has disappeared in Messages but you can still get it to send SMS Messages via an AIM Account to a "Buddy" that is the phone number with a leading + 1 for the country code (although it was never  rolled out world wide).
    Uploaded with Skitch!
The Menu items in the Buddies menu (This is from iChat 5) do not appear unless the computer ius set to be in the United States.
They don't appear at All in Messages (whether the computer is set or not.)
This Info card to show it has numbers

  • IPhone sends as iMessage first then sms text to non iPhone

Hi. My GF had an iPhone for a week in November and iMessage was activated. She didn’t get on with the iPhone so gave it back. Before doing so we made sure we turned off iMessage in the phone settings and on her Apple ID account and deleted her number out of it etc. However, still to this day when I send her a message from my iPhone to her non iPhone it sends as iMessage then immediately sends as text afterwards. It doesn’t always do this, maybe once or twice in the day and all other times it just sends as text straight away as it should do. Anyone shed any light on this? Thanks!

I don't believe there are any other settlings you could change. You may need to check with your cellular provider to be certain the SMS option is properly provisioned on your account.

  • Iphone trying to send iMessages to non iphone users - HELP!

My friend just switched from Verizon to Sprint. He has NEVER had an iphone. He currently has some type of galaxy or android. As of last night all of my texts to him are being sent as iMessages (which he obviously doesn't receive). He's had the phone for two weeks and up until yesterday we were able to text via SMS with no issues. I still get his texts - he gets nothing from me and it only shows on my phone as going through as an iMessage. I've tried deleting his contact and adding it again. It still shows up blue in my contacts as if it's an iphone (which it obviously is not). I know I can turn off my iMessage on my phone but I like using it because the majority of my friends and family have iPhones. Is there any way to fix this??

I am having the same issue in the US.
I had a 3GS and switched to an Android based phone.  My wife now has a 4s and all messages from her were going to my old iPhone instead of my new phone.  My old phone does not have service, but still works well on wifi.  My messages would send fine, and I could send and receive from non-iPhone users without issue.  I then tried sending to an iPhone 4, and once again got an iMessage back on my old phone from that person.
    Fix:
I pulled the SIM card from my new phone, had the iPhone users delete and re-enter contact info for me.  The first time they send a message to me it goes out as an iMessage, but then re-sends about 5 minutes later as a regular text.  Once the thread has started, it goes back and forth without issue.  If they delete the thread off their iPhones, the process starts over again and the first one takes about 5 minutes to resend as a regular text.
I know iPhones with iOS 5 will always send as an iMessage first if that is enabled (and why wouldn't it, it's a great feature) but it needs to go to Apple's servers first, then resent as a non-iMessage.
I am not sure if others are experiencing delays in first run text messages to others and think the delay is teh network, when it may the iMessage function.  I would like to see some feedback from others if they are seeing delays?

  • IPhone trying to send iMessage to non iPhone.

My friend had an iPhone 4 with iOS5 and has recently switched to a different phone as his iPhone died on him.
My iPhone is still attempting to send him iMessages and obviously they are getting lost in the ether...
I'm not going to switch off iMessaging each time I want to message him, that's just ridiculous.
Has anyone else had this issue?
    How can this be resolved?

You use Restore to get the latest firmware build, not the Update button. You can only use the Update button, if there is an iOS update, say iOS 5.1.
this link talks about updating to 9A406 to fix the "No Service" issue with iPhone 4S:

  • IPhone won't send a non iMessage text

    Hi Everyone,
My boyfriend and I both had iPhones with iOS7. He recently switched to a Samsung S4 and unregistered his iPhone with his iTunes account. My phone however, will not send a text to his phone unless iMessage is turned off in the settings. When I go to send a text, it still recognizes his phone as an iPhone. But he isn't having this issue with any other iPhone users. I've tried deleting him out of my phone, entering his number has a mobile not an iPhone, still nothing works! Any help or suggestions would be great! Thanks!

He needs to unregister iMessage on his old iPhone if he still has it.   If not, he'll have to call Apple to have them disassociate his # with iMessage.
While that's a possible root cause, the fact that he has no issues with other iPhone users suggests that it's something else at hand.
I would check the setting I mentioned, but also try the steps pdroth mentioned if that doesn't resolve it.
