IMessage stopped working on iMac

i message stopped working on imac

Oh I think I follow now.  So the problem you are having is on the phone.  iMessages will switch to text messages if there is not a data service avialablle, or the reciever is not currently on the network to receive them.  So you might be in a bad coverage area, or the people you are sending them may not have service or have their phones off.  Either way this is not a Mac question and should not be in this fourm.

My iMessage stopped working when I did the latest update on my phone. I have literally tried everything to reset it. I am currently not in the US, but my iMessage has always worked when I was in wifi and my phone is still activated. I have tried to reset my network settings, my location, and even the reset all settings. When I click on my settings and iMessage it says that it is still waiting for activation... and my phone number is grayed out. I am able to recieve an iMessage to my email and that could work for right now but i'm not sure how to start a conversation the defaults to being sent from my email and not my cell phone number. please help!

    Hi shanny202.
Really strange problem you have there. I have a few questions though.
Please try again and try to make the phone as a new without restoringen with you iCloud-data or backup-data from iTunes. Maybe it is something wrong with the data (strange).
Anyway, i think you should call Apple Support or visit an Apple Store, don't forgot to make a Genius Bar reservation.

I solved my problem by Resetting my iPod and then Restoring my files.  Only speed bump was losing two apps in the Restore, as the current versions now require iOS 7.1, minimum.  Apple makes Reset and Restore (two processes) painless with these Help articles:  "Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings," and "Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch using iCloud or iTunes."  The Restore took a while to synch my photos and iTunes libraries.

Try that. If it still does not work, try calling Apple.

  • I changed my Apple ID and then my imessages stopped working

I changed my Apple ID and then my imessages stopped working. I have logged out of the Icloud on my 5s and logged back in under the new apple id. No imessages on the ipad or phone.  Any suggestions

You can only update the apps using the original ID and details you provided to buy the apps in the first place.   You cannot merge IDs.

    Thank you

Nevermind I've solved the problem by downloading the Combo update 10.10.2 from here OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 Combo Update and reinstalled it. This fixed the problem.

Ok actually my mistake it says "an error occurred during activation. try again" I spoke with apple tech support right now and she mentioned they are having trouble with there servers.  Do you by any chance know what the restrictions area means? Should that be activated or deactivated, does that make a difference?

  • Why has iMessage stopped working?

My iMessage stops working for a while and then comes back on, any ideas pls?

It all depends on if you have internet connection available. Plus if your recipient hasn't got internet connectivity at the time you send the message it will revert to SMS

  • IMessage stops working after updating to ios 7

i have an iphone 4s and after updating to ios 7 imessage stopped working. i tried to activate it and it just doesn't. i tried to restore it and use a backup and it's still not working

I have the exact same problem that you have described. I have tried all the "fixes" that have been suggested and not a single one has worked.
Apparently we are part of a small** percentage of Apple users that have been affected.
Small to Apple is over 2 million people.
You would think that for such a large company who has had mutiple iOS update problems in the past ( The iOS 5 update bricked my phone ) they would have these issues resolved by now.
It's been 2 weeks and there are multiple contacts that I cannot text or they can't reply to me.
    It is very frustrating!
It seems the only solution right now is to do a complete factory reset of the phone, but even then it could take up to 24 hours for your iMessage to verify, if it infact works.
I am very disappounted in Apple and the service they have "provided" to solve this issue.
Perhaps next time they do an update they should restrict who can dowload it and when to avoid bogging down the servers and causing issued.
As perviously noted though this issue only affect a **small** percentage of Apple users, so I am sure they are in no hurry to fix this issue, after all it's been 2 weeks and even with the iOS 7.0.2 update the problem STILL isn't resolved.

  • TS2755 My iMessages stopped working

My iMessages stopped working two days ago. When I tried to reactivate my iMessage, it gives error message "could not sign in, please check your network connection and try again". I followed your support instructtions, and still could not solve the problem

You should check out http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4268 if you haven't already. It deals with activation issues while TS2755 deals primarily with being able to use the service once it's activated.
This issue is almost always network-related. As indicated by the error message. Make sure you have your cellular data turned on and you are able to send and receive reguar text messages. You need this ability to activate iMessage. Or make sure you have Wi-Fi as well as the ability to send and receive SMS.
Also make sure your date and time settings are correct for your time zone in Settings > General > Date & Time. If those have been changed, that may prevent activation.
Also make sure you're on iOS 7.1.1.
Also, keep in mind that this support forum isn't run by Apple employees. If you need them, you can call or chat them.

  • IMessage and FaceTime stops working in iMac after carrier change

    Hi all,
I have done a fair bit of googling and had a look at the discussion history here but couldn't find a solution to my problem. Apology if it has been raised and discussed before and I woud appreciate being re-directed to the thread.
I have got iMessage and Face Time running smoothly on my iPad 2 wi-fi, iphone 4S and iMac OX 10.8.4. However, on the day of my changing carrier (17/09/2013), iMessage and FaceTime stopped working on my iMac as well as iPad 2. It can longer recieve or send messages or receive or make Face Time calls. All the settings looked the same - tick mark next to both my Apple ID email and mobile number, and conversation has always been set to start from mobile number on all devices. iMessage and FaceTime continue to work on iphone 4S without any issues. New sim card but same mobile number. I don't worry too much about the iPad. I just want to make it work again on my iMac and appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Steps I have attempted to make iMessage work again (I left Face Time turned off on iphone and iMac during this time)
    0) I disabled/removed Bonjour (GTalk) in iMessage setting in iMac
    1) I have turned off iMessage and FaceTime on all devices and swtiched iMessage only back on in iphone 4S first and then iMac. I got the message on my iphone that the iMac will start using the mobile number and Apple ID to send iMessages. However, iMac still fails to send or receive messages.
    2) I have updated Apple ID on the web (removed the phone number, saved, and then re-entered phone number assoicated with Apple ID). Then repeat #1
    3) I have tried changing "start new conversation from Apple ID email" across all devices - did not resolve anything
    4) I have added a friend's Apple ID in iMessage on my iMac -mobile number automatically appeared and tick marks for both her mobile and Apple ID email but unable to send or recieve messages still while it continues to work from her iphone
    5) I have also done a PRAM reset - I got the 2 chimes - did not resolve the issue
There's a clear trigger for this problem - change of carrier but I don't understand why it is affecting the iMac (and ipad) but not the iphone itself. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do about it?
Thanks for your help in advance.

    Hi,
At the OS X 10.8.2 update things regarding the iMessages Account's login were changed.
It now requires that the Mac's Serial Number is held in the Memory for it on the Logic Board.
It can get missed in Refurbishments and Repairs.
This is used to generate the Auth-Token for your Apple ID in the Keychain.
Go to Application/Utilities and open Keychain Access.
In the Login Keychain look for "IDS: (Your Apple ID)-AuthToken"
Double clicking this will open the Info Panel.
Check the Access tab and make sure it is either allowing Any App or lists Messages, IMCore and those in this pic.
Although it is know that the Mac has to list the Serial Number it is not clear if other info is needed.
It is possible that it also refers to your Public IP address in some way, this would seem unlikely as most people's ISP issued IP address is from a DHCP server - you basically keep the same IP as you are "Always On" between the router and the ISP but it can change.
If it is not allowing access then change the settings.
There are also two .plists that contain the word imessages
One of these refers to the server you connect to.
com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist contains the Info you have in the Preferences of Messages (Apple ID, Linked iPhone Numbers and any additional emails)
com.apple.imessage.bag.plist contains which server at iMessages you connect to.
I would try deleting (drag to Trash) the second of these and then restarting Messages.
If that does not work Quit Messages and delete the AuthToken for your Apple ID (if the AuthToken appeared to be allowing access above.)
    Restart Messages.

  • Continuity, Handoff, Instant Hotspot and iMessage stop working

    2013 iMac with 10.10.2
       - Beginning two days ago, I think..(maybe coincidental with update to 10.10.2, but I thought things were working fine following) iMessage stopped syncing with other OS X and iOS devices on the same iCloud account.  All on the same network.
         - Instant Hotspot, Continuity and Handoff also do not work on the iMac...(worked great a couple days ago)
         - iMac is primary ethernet, but wifi is on also.
         - I have cycled power, turned on and off wifi, turned on and off handoff settings, turned on and off iMessage, cycled iMessage "enable account", logged out of iCloud, logged out of iMessage (on all devices).  When I turn on iMessage on the iMac - I do not get any notice on any other device that I have done so, like I do with all the other devices.
         - I did get notice on the other devices when I turned iCloud back on and wanted my keychain restored.
         - MPB is also updated to 10.10.2 and no issues.  All features work.
         - iPhone and iPad are at iOS 8.1.3
         - iPhone only sees MBP and iPad for "text forwarding"
When I send an iMessage on any of the three (MBP, iPad, iPhone) they each sync nicely.  No message received on iMac.  Before I realized I was having problems with the iMac I did see that more messages were going out as "text".  Also, when attempting to send to know iMessage account holders I was not getting the blue, rather the red highlight on the names and the "not registered with iMessage" notice.
I am tempted to just do a Time Machine restore back to a few days ago, but I would like to know if there is something else I should do first.  Seems a bit heavy handed to do that.
    Thanks
    Dave

They're going to treat every case individually.  While perhaps similar in nature, they will have to run through the same diagnostics with every new case the same way.  I have an applecare contract, and I started with online chat support for OSX issues.  Got the first level person pretty quickly who guided me through a bunch of diagnostic steps.  At the end of that session, when things were still not working, she set me up for a support callback from Level 2.  Call came in at the scheduled time less than an hour later, I got hooked up with a rep named Tyler, who had the ability to look at the devices registered under my apple id.  He said it was strange that he didn't see my macbook pro listed, though he saw my other products.  He said it would have to go to engineering.  Sent me instructions to prepare a dump file and email it to apple support, which I completed right away.  The next day, around mid-morning, my devices were getting the apple id popup message.  Tried imessage on the MBP and it worked.  Emailed Tyler that imessage appeared to be working, he replied, and it was done.  I was surprised that I didn't receive any sort of follow up that my issue had been worked and resolved, but I was very pleased with the experience with apple support.  For anyone who doesn't have an active applecare contract, I believe apple will handle Apple ID related issues for free, so that would be the path to follow.  I'm wondering if I started through support as an Apple ID issue instead of as an OSX issue, maybe it would have resolved more quickly.

    Messages stopped working on iMac

No luck with these troubleshooting tips either... I don't have a lot of time to dig in, but I did capture some console logs during an auth event this morning to see if it would show anything useful.
Console logs during authentication - 10:30am EST, 13 Jan 2014

It looks like there could be a certificate issue but I'm seeing a current valid cert for com.apple.idms.appleid.prd.xxx so I'm not sure which cert this could be referring to.  There's no indication in the console message and there is no useful information in the error message from the app.
I can log in to Messages on my iMac so I think it's a local issue only.
