IMessage stopped working suddenly

I just noticed today that I am unable to send or receive iMessages on my iPhone 4. I tested by using another iPhone (a 3GS) nearby to send and receive messages. SMS goes through, iMessage does not.
Changing the time zone settings and restarting the phone has not helped. Neither has changing DNS server to Google's (8.8.8.8). I do not have the time to restore the entire phone, and that solution seems like using a sledgehammer to me anyway.
When I disable then re-enable iMessages in my settings, it just shows the "Waiting for activation..." message forever. Also, attempting to sign in to Facetime (which I believe is related through my searching on these forums) with my Apple ID results in it saying it failed, and asks me to try again. One of the more useless error messages I have seen in my day, by the way.
So, basically, the other iPhone in my house, on the same wi-fi network, can send and receive iMessages. Mine however, cannot, and will not activate. Apple wants to charge me $29 for the pleasure of speaking with them, and that is not an option, since this is their software and the phone is not jailbroken.

The problem wasn't with your phone. Apple is having server issues. Of course, by the time you finish restoring your phone, they may be resolved. There are already reports of people being able to access iMessage and FaceTime again.

    My iMessages stopped working. I tried to turn off iMessages and back on, then tried to activate with my email address and when I try to sign in with apple id it goes to the screen where it shows the email address, and when I hit next it displays "verifying" and then goes back to the sign in page.  I am currently not in range for cellular signal but I am on wifi.  Shouldn't I be able to sign in with just my email address, as now it does not display my phone # because I do not have a cellular signal?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Update to my original issue:  Before this issue occurred, I changed the time on my iPhone to manual so I could set it to match the time zone I was in. Again, I had no cell signal which is why I set my iPhone clock to manual.  What I did to fix iMessages...I went back in under settings and set the clock back to "Set Automatically". Then I had to double click on the Home button to bring up the apps that were running in the background on my phone. I found the Messages app and deleted it from the apps that were currently running. I then went back under settings, into the Messages setting and tried to sign back in to iMessages just using my email address.  This time I was able to sign back in to iMessages. Then I opened my Messages app and was able to send iMessages again. Evidently when I messed with my Date and Time settings, it did something to my iMessages.  No clue as to why, if anyone has any idea why altering my time settings would cause iMessages to stop working, feel free to let me know so I can better understand this problem.

I am able to recieve an iMessage to my email and that could work for right now but i'm not sure how to start a conversation the defaults to being sent from my email and not my cell phone number. please help!

    Really strange problem you have there. I have a few questions though.
    Please try again and try to make the phone as a new without restoringen with you iCloud-data or backup-data from iTunes. Maybe it is something wrong with the data (strange).
    Anyway, i think you should call Apple Support or visit an Apple Store, don't forgot to make a Genius Bar reservation.

    I solved my problem by Resetting my iPod and then Restoring my files.  Only speed bump was losing two apps in the Restore, as the current versions now require iOS 7.1, minimum.  Apple makes Reset and Restore (two processes) painless with these Help articles:  "Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings," and "Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch using iCloud or iTunes."  The Restore took a while to synch my photos and iTunes libraries.

    If you do not find a solution in the iPod nano (6th generation) - User Guide, suggest that you call AppleCare if still under warranty or take a trip to your local Apple Store or AASP.

    With iMessages open on yuour iMac, from the menu bar top of your screen click Messages > My Status
    You can select Off or Online as necessary from there.

    It is pretty obvious from the post that this happens while loading WinPE, what is there to misinterpret?
    Are you using different WDS servers for your sites?
    If yes, try to remove the boot image from the 'Broken' one and re-import it.
    Comparing checksums is never a bad idea in such a scenario.

    I own a HP Pavilion dv6915nr, it stopped working suddenly last night. It was working perfectly, I was watching a video on HULU and I stepped away for 2 or 3 minutes, when I came back the screen was off. The laptop seemed to be on sleep, but when I tried to use it again it didn't do anything. When I try to turn it on the keyboard lights turn on for about 2 seconds, then it goes completely off and there is a faint cracking sound on the speaker bar. 
    I already tried taking the batteries off and using the AC/DC adapter only, it did not work. When I plug-in the AC/DC adapter the light around the power connector turns on.

    Try a hard reset, works sometimes.Disconnect all external devices first.
    1-remove power cord and battery
    2-press power button for 30 seconds
    3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.

  • NB520 - Wifi stopped working suddenly on its own

    Hi,
    I bought my NB520 in Singapore.
    The WIFI was working properly for almost 3 years until recently I have this strange problem.
    It stopped working suddenly on its own last June for almost 2 weeks.
    Just when I was about to send it to the repair centre, it came back on again.
    But the WIFI comes on and off for a few more weeks before it stabalised.
    It works ok ever since, until 3 days ago it went off again like the last time.
    Usually, when I switch on the netbook, the WIFI indicator (red light) will come on within seconds.
    To use Bluetooth, I just right click on the Bluetooth icon and press "Enable Bluetooth Function" and Bluetooth will turn on.
    But now when I do that, it tells me to "Plug in Bluetooth device".
    Is this a hardware or software problem ?
    I spoke with a local technician but she is unsure too.
    Would appreciate if you can help me with this problem. Thanks in advance.

    This can be answered very easily recovering the notebook back to factory settings.
    But I guess this is not an option for you at this time. Isnt it?
    However, the issue you are talking in your post looks like the WLan isnt enabled and chosen properly.
    Usually you can use the FN + F8 key combination to enable and disable the WLan and BT module.
    Pressing both keys would switch between WLan and BT as well as disable and enable the modules.
    Did you test this in the past?
    In case the FN + F8 would not work as it should, I would recommend you to download the Wlan driver from Toshiba page released for this notebook series and to reinstall the Wlan driver.
    Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
