IMessage sync broken

This post does not involve syncing iMessages with my Mac, which I never upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8 (it remains on Lion 10.7).
Rather, it is about the failure of iMessage to sync between my iDevices: iPhone 5 and WiFi-only iPad Mini, both running on iOS 6.1.2 currently.
iMessage is configured exactly alike on both devices.  Whenever I send or receive a text message, whether the recipient or sender is an idevice user or not, the messages show up on both devices just fine.  And yet if I delete a conversation on one device it remains on the other.  I am expecting a deletion in one device to seamlessly sync on the other without duplicate effort on my part.
Why is this sync failure happening?   It is highly puzzling not to say annoying.

Let me add that the problem is not specific to iOS 6.1.2, as it has been a problem long before this release.
Like you, clent, I have turned iMessage on/off on both devices more times than I care to remember, and while on at least the last two flavors of iOS.  And I know my iMessage settings are properly established on both devices, exactly alike on each.   As I wrote, messages sent & received populate/render just fine on both devices at once, regardless if the recipient or sender is also on an iDevice.   The problem remains the syncing behavior when deleting conversations.  I expect conversations that I delete on one device to also disappear on the other.  But no.

  • Macbook Pro iMessage Sync

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro running OS X Yosemite. I have my imessages sync to my Macbook Pro. The issue that I am running into is the fact that every single time I turn on my computer, I need to listen to all the texts coming in since the last time my computer has been on. I went on a trip and didn't have my computer with me. When I came home, it took ten minutes for the iMessage pop ups to go away because it was notifying me of all the texts that I had gotten while I was gone. These are texts that I have already read and responded to on my phone.
Is there a way to cease the notifications on old imessages when I turn on my computer?

No. There is no actual synchronization of Messages data between devices. The messages are received on all devices linked to the account. One device has no way of knowing whether a message has been read on another device. To get that kind of synchronicity, you would have to use email.

  • Why cant my imessages sync across both iphone and ipad

why cant my imessages sync across both iphone and ipad same with face time

I looked into your question and believe I may have a solution for you.
Your iMessages likely aren't syncing because of a bug in iOS 5. Syncing iMessages between iOS devices is supposed to happen automatically, but sometimes it does not.
You could likely manually activate syncing by navigating to Setttings --> Messages --> Receive At --> Caller ID on both your iPad and iPhone and selecting your Apple ID.

  • Iphone, itouch, imessages - sync

I have an iphone with my own apple id and my daughter has an itouch with her own apple id. Am I able to set imessages syncing so I get my messages AND all of her messages sent to my iphone, without having any of MY messages sent to her itouch?? (one of the conditions if she wanted to keep her itouch..) Would I just add her apple id and password on my phone?? Will I then get messages for both accounts? And would she still only get her messages like normal, but would NOT be get any of my messages??  How would I set that up on my iphone so all the texting with my contacts will be sent from my iphone, but will still be able to view and monitor all her itouch messages??
Thanks so much for your help!!

just worked again right after i posted this. seems pretty hit or miss whether it works, don't understand why.

  • Help with iPad Identifying Phone Numbers in iMessage Send & Receive Settings / iMessage Syncing Help - iOS 6 - iPhone - iPad

With iOS6, iPhone and iPad users will see that their Send & Receive iMessage settings have updated across their devices to be made available at both phone numbers and email addresses. You may have also seen alerts on one or more of your devices advising that another device is now using the same Apple ID/phone number for iMessage.
Being able to be reached on iMessage on both Apple ID and phone numbers across devices means that iMessage can keep the same thread and sync across devices.
Due to having 2 iPhones on different phone numbers running along side my iPad at one time, (whilst I was waiting for my phone number to be moved to a new provider), my iMessage settings on my iPad lost my phone number completely. I thought I would document the steps to recover this for anyone in the same boat.
    1. Check that you are signed in with the same iCloud Account on both iPad and iPhone.
    2. Turn off iMessage on your iPad from Settings > Messages.
    3. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. You should see your phone number and your iCloud email address in the 'Your can be reached by iMessage at:' list. Make sure both are ticked.
    4. At this point, I synced my iPhone with iTunes, then synced my iPad with iTunes.
    5. On your iPad, turn iMessage back on - your phone number should now show in the 'You can be reached by iMessage at:' list. Tick the phone number. You should receive an alert on your iPhone.
    This should resolve the issue.
With the above set up and with the iOS 6 updates, iMessage should now sync fine across devices however I have still found the most successful way to run iMessage is to always start new conversations from your Apple ID and to start new threads by addressing the first message to an Apple ID from an Apple ID.
To do this, go to Settings > iMessage > Send & Receive and tick your Apple ID in the 'Start new conversations from:' list, then start a new iMessage thread to the recipients Apple ID. This way, the thread will sync across iPad and iPhone. Note that a thread set up this way will not fall back on SMS, so you get a clean iMessage thread. This method also worked/works on iOS 5, as long as you send the first message of a new thread from an iPad (which can only send via Apple ID) to an Apple ID.
    Hopefully this helped someone!

ipad has no phone number, you use a same email address for both devices. and set it in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive

  • ALERT: Google account sync broken on webOS devices (and a fix)

MUST READING FOR webOS USERS WHO SYNC CONTACTS WITH GOOGLE ACCOUNTS:
Earlier this week I began having trouble with my Pre3.  It spontaneously restarted and pretty much wiped everything.  After logging back in to my webOS account, I then began having trouble logging in to my several Google accounts.  Each time, I got either an "unknown error" message or a message that my credentials were incorrect.
A very clever webOS developer (consider throwing him some bones if you use his patch...see below) figured out that Google changes to https (whatever that means) were the culprit.  I don't understand enough of the jargon to explain it, but the issue seems to effect Google accounts (primarily contacts) which are newly added to a device or re-added after a reset or doctoring your device, more so than accounts that are already on your device.
However, even if your existing gmail and calendar accounts still sync, you are strongly advised to check...Google contact sync is probably broken and you might not realize it.  In this condition, contacts which are newly added directly on device will not sync to google servers for backup and syncing with other devices you might have, unless you install the patch below.
I can vouch for that.  I had added several new contacts directly on the phone during the past week, but after this week's fun & games, I found that none of the newly added contacts had ever synced to my online Google contacts, which means they didn't sync back down from google's servers onto my other devices.
SO...GO HERE NOW:  The patch which is discussed in this linked article on webOS Nation has definitely fixed the sync problem on my Pre3.  It requires the use of webOS Quick Install.    While you're at it, install Preware using webOS Quick Install, and expand the usability and speed of your webOS device. Then install a Preware app called Internlz Pro which is installed with Preware.  Then you email the patch to yourself, click on the attachment, and Internalz Pro installs directly without having to connect to your computer.
Please post back in this thread if this issue has effected your phone or tablet, and if you have any problems installing the patch.  I haven't used webOS Quick Install in a long time so I had to figure it out from scratch.  I install from a MacBook and it works just fine.  There is also an on-device option called Internlz Pro which is installed with Preware directly on the phone...you email the ptch to yourself and Internalz Pro will install it.
HP/Palm had given its support to the webOS Homebrew Community, so let's use this information here to keep these devices healthy.  You will find much more detailed informatio in the forum linked above where the patch is located, and how to get webOS Quick Install and PreWare downloads.
I'll also use this experience as a plug for PreWare and the really selfless developers who support our favorite OS and catch stuff like this when it happens, and turn around a patch in a day or two so that the community can benefit..  There are tons of improvements just waiting there for your webOS devices.  Tweaks.  Patches.  Enhancements of all sorts to make your webOS device run faster and jump higher.  All free, robust, and ready to keep webOS cool and relevant for many more years, for a lot of users.
No particular skills or knowledge are needed to take advantage of PreWare.  The directions are very simple.  You already have the hardware.  This experience shows me that the webOS homebrew community still has some dedicated and pretty darned skilled developers at work for the sheer joy and pride (and a few $$ should someone toss them a few) of keeping their...our...beloved webOS alive.

  • Syncing Broken from iPhone/MobileMe over to iCal - but not in reverse

I've tried all the solutions noted in dozens of Discussion topics. I've called Apple Support several times in the past. All the fixes were temporary, not permanent. Several of my friends and I are looking for a permanent fix to the broken sync issues described below:
Changes and additions made in the iPhone calendar syncs OK up to the MobileMe cloud ... then stops there. These items never sync down from the MobileMe cloud to iCal. This problem, and similar ones, have persisted for months now.
Sadly, changes made in iCal always sync OK in the reverse order - up through the MobileMe cloud and on to iPhone - been inserting duplicate events added in iPhone over in iCal, adding "iCal" to the Event Titles. The results are that I have duplicates in iPhone now (one with the "iCal" indicator in the title, one without it).
Finally, Conflict Resolver is problematic and annoying. If I edit an event in iPhone, it will sync OK up to MobileMe. But then I get repeated Conflict Resolver messages indicating conflicts b/t iCal and either or both iPh and MM. If I choose the info in MobileMe or iPhone to edit the info in iCal, the conflict just keeps repeating - for example, I just for the 10th time clicked the Review Now button, and went through the process, for the same "1" event - oops now the 11th time. But if I choose the info in iCal to edit the info in MobileMe or iPhone, it edits OK. But it still does not affect the problems noted above.
My iPhone 4 is my 4th iPhone ... I've owned all the versions. These syncing issues have persisted. What good is the iPhone out on the road as a business tool if I add calendar events as appointments are made, but then when I return to my desk these items will not sync back up through MobileMe to iCal?

I'm having a similar problem. But in my case, nothing is syncing either way with my iPhone 3G. iCal is syncing just fine between MobileMe cloud and our computers as well as my husband's iPod touch. Just not with my iPhone 3G since loading iOS4. I just downloaded the iOS4 update -- hoping to fix multiple problems with the new OS, including slow as molasses performance -- but iCal still won't sync in either direction.
Apple Customer Service recommended doing a iCal sync through iTunes. Trouble with that is that it's created duplicates of (almost) everything: "All on my iPhone" and "All [email protected]". Ugh, hate that, but at least I can turn off the "All on my iPhone" now.
Anyone have any ideas re: how to fix the iPhone to MobileMe cloud sync? Or do I have to wait (and hope) for the next iOS4 update?
Sigh. Apple continues to disappoint this 20-yr+ Mac user!

  • WiFi Sync Broken or Erratic

Up until the beginning of 2014, my iPhone 4S always synced perfectly over WiFi with my PC. But then... I upgraded. You know what they say about fixing what ain't broke...
Now running the latest iTunes and IOS versions, I've been battling for a few months to get WiFi sync to work at all, and have resorted to using a cable. I've done the new setup including "trusting" the host computer, but beyond that it's like there's a brick wall between the two devices.
Of interest, my symptoms are a bit different from most of what I've seen. The very first time I start up iTunes, after a short while I'll see the little "iPhone" icon appear in the top bar along with the spinning circle. But instead of being black, it's greyed out. Some 15 seconds later, the icon disappears (no data transfer happens) and, if I restart iTunes, the grey icon doesn't appear again. So, it's a bit like my PC can see the iPhone, but the iPhone doesn't want to see my PC so it gives up. Firewall? Disabled that.
Months ago I tried restarting the "Apple Mobile Device" service to no avail - but then tonight I decided to see if any of the recent iTunes updates had fixed anything and unhappily found it still broken, I decided to try restarting the service. And this time... for the first time in a long time... iTunes actually found the iPhone over WiFi! Proper black button, did a full automatic backup, and stayed connected after that, too.
Then I exited iTunes and immediately started it up again... no more iPhone.
Exited, restarted Apple Mobile Device, started iTunes... and once again, it saw the iPhone!
What the heck is going on with Apple Mobile Device that I have to keep manually restarting it? Does anyone know of a permanent fix to this issue?

    Hello, Daniel.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

Don't waste time with all of that crap....
    Just update your date/time settings:
    Settings
    > General
    >> Date & Time
    >>> Set Automatically:  Slide "ON"...If it's already on, then slide it off, chill for a bit (maybe restart it), then slide it back on.
I literally* just did this, saw a link for this thread, and figured i'd come see if it worked for you.  Mine hasn't worked since early January and for a while I wasn't getting texts from some other iPhone users either.
I have an iPhone 4, but I assume it will still work for you.  I also have iOS 5.1 (just updated after plugging into iTunes on my mac), so that may make a difference, but I think it's just a network thing.  When you disable "Set Automatically" for time, I figure that you are also denying access to a part of the network that is necessary for iMessage.
    **EDIT**
I also forgot to mention that, despite Apple's excluvisity, you still need to rely on an internet connection to use this little feature.  After you activate, it will even have an option to send as a regular text (SMS) when iMessage isn't available (when there is no or very little internet).  I'm assuming that sliding to "no" will just save the message until you connect again.

  • Only some iMessages sync between Macbook Air and iPhone?

Not sure what the deal is.  I've been iMessaging a friend of mine on my phone for a couple days and the phone messages are all still there, but only a few of the messages synced with my Macbook once I started using it to message her.  I have a couple more convos that have been exclusively on my phone, the last message showing on the Macbook is three days old even though I've messaged them on my phone since then.  I've tried logging in and out of iMessage on both devices, not sure what to do about it.

Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so.
Sign out of iMessage on the Mac:
Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
    and on the iPhone:
Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out
    Then, on the phone, tap
Use Your Apple ID for iMessage
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test. If there's no change, you may have to wait for a change in network conditions.

    Hi,
Post update to 10.4.9, there was a strange behaviour in iSync with Nokia 9300i.
Every-time the sync was about to complete, it used to get broken (while syncing calendar). The phone get's message that the link is broken.

  • IMessage - Syncing between devices

I am an iPhone 6Plus user as well as a MacBook Pro user.  I have my iMessage on my laptop set up with my cellular number, so that when I send a message from my iPhone whether it is sent as an iMessage or SMS Text, it appears on my MacBook.  This evening I realized that one of my contacts this is not true for and this contact happens to be an X of mine.  We occasionally communicate back and forth however tonight it dawned on me that none of the messages we have sent back and forth recently are showing up on my Macbook. He has an iPhone 5 whether or not this makes any difference. I send texts to various people who have different brands of phone, those still show up on both - contacts that have a different cellular provider, those show up on both.  This is very perplexing to me so I thought I would turn here and ask if anyone can shed some light on why this is happening.  I should also mention that my X is a computer engineer, develops software, wrote code back in the day, etc.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!!

    HI,
    Lets be clear.
Apple run the boards in terms of it is their Server space  and they employ the Hosts as they are called.
Other than that they have no input here at all.
The people posting replies are just other users like yourself that have the same Apple Software and products you do.
Anybody employed by Apple has to ask permission to Post here and their Accounts used to be marked with a white Apple icon rather than any of the other choices.
I have not seen one for some while now.
So it is not Apple who are saying there is no fix.  It is the regular posters who have not found one yet.
The issue is further complicated as people report slightly different issues with the Sync process.
This make it it unclear if there is one issue with different presentation or several similar issues that may or may not be linked.
On top of that I can't replicate the issue myself.  The closest I can get it is the Mac is off (Shut Down) and I send an iMessages from my iPhone the iMessage it self and any replies don't always appear on the Mac and the Messages app when I open the app.
Whilst very unApple-like Stigbull seems to have had some luck with his reset which jmpin1 supports.
When you know the app is not working as you expect then there is no point in relying on it in critical situations.
Having posted you know this trying to make anyone feel presurised in action about it is not going to stand up anywhere if something does happen.

  • IMessage Sync between devices

My boyfriend and I have been using iMessage to communicate internationally; he is currently in the Philippines.  It's been awesome for chatting and FaceTime!  I can "text message" him from my phone where ever in the states and he uses wi-fi to receive on his iPad.  I love that I can continue the same conversation on my mac at home.
When we send pics/movies though, they only show up on the device that they were first recieved.  A picture recieved on my phone while I'm out isn't received on my mac, but the rest of the conversation is.  Similarly, I realized this morning that he sent me a video and it didn't come to my mac (where we were currently having a conversation) but only to my phone across the room.
How do I get all my devices to sync all the information??  Sometimes I get a "file transfer" screen on my mac but nothing ever comes through!

if you mean that you want the messages from imessages to go on to your devices you have to log in with same apple id on devices and make sure icloud is on

You don't. It's too late to sync it for the first time, now. Let's just hope you were backing it up to iCloud... If not, then your data is gone.
