Imessage won't use phone number

I have an iphone 4 that is unlocked and I have had some problems with making imessage use my phone number. I have tried switching it on/off, signing out of my apple id, and practically every solution in these discussions with no luck. I thought I would give it one last shot and ask if anyone has any suggestions or ways to correct this. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi, Damian.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand you are attempting to activate iMessage and are receiving an error.  You have tried most of the relevant steps so I would see the attached section below.
Still not activated after an hour?
It might take a few minutes to activate iMessage and FaceTime. If you've waited more than an hour, try these steps:
Make sure that your device has the latest version of iOS.
If you're using an iPhone, contact your carrier to make sure that you can receive SMS messages.
Contact Apple Support.
If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime

Launch iTunes on your computer, plug the phone in & on the "Summary Pane", select "Restore". This will restore the phone to factory settings with all of your son's stuff gone. You can now use it as an iPod touch. To do this REQUIRES the deactivated sim card be still installed in the phone.

  • Why can I receive iMessages sent to my phone number on my macbook but not my iPad?

Why can I receive iMessages sent to my phone number on my macbook but not my iPad?
My iPhone phone number appeared as a recipient option on my mac as soon as I launched Messages on my iPhone but not on the iPad and I can't find a way to add it.

You do not have an app but you can setup your iMessage on the iPhone and switch it on (as it is since you receive messages on the iPhone).
In the same setup screen under iMessage you should have send receipt, send as SMS and also Send and Receive   howmanyadress  >  Click on here and you will enter a new screen.
On top there should be you Apple ID and under your phone number. Under the phone number you can add some Mail adress to be used for iMessage. I believe it is important ot have the Apple ID on the top of this screen  and at least one Apple Mail checked as to be used for iMessage.
This should be enought to get iMessage both on iPhone and Mac.
Try this and let iCloud to sync for few minutes and you should have the data on the Mac too.

  • IMessage sent to verizon phone number not received

My friend has a Verizon iPhone 4S and an iPad.
She has her phone # and email address associated with iMessage on both the iPhone and the iPad.
As of today, iMessages sent to her phone number  (for example, from my AT&T iPhone 5 and everyone else) never appear on her iPhone.
These iMessages, however, do appear in "Messages" on the iPad.
iMessages sent to the e-mail address do appear on both the iPhone and iPad!
This is really bad, as she is not getting any iMessages sent to the phone number on the iPhone  ( that is any text message from anyone on the iMessage network).
Any ideas? This is so bizarre. I can imagine an iMessage getting lost, but why would it just not appear on one device...

SIgned out ALL devices of iMessage
Sent text message to the iPhone - it showed up as a regular green text message as expected
Signed devices back in , starting with the iPhone
Back at the same situation. iPhone not getting iMessages that are sent to the phone #.
I wonder if there is some problem in the IMessage world.

  • Using phone number in messages app in Mac OS X

In Messages(on Mac) I have set up Start New Conversations to use phone number.  When I send text(to myself) I get notifications on ipad and iPhone.  However I was exepcting to get the Banner notifcation(as I configured) on Mac and I do not get it.
Ayn ideas as to why?  Does it have soemthing to do with using the phone# instead of email address?
Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

    Hi,
I sometimes find that Notifications only work when the App is not the "front" app.
Also, if you have Linked the Apple ID and the iPhone number during the process of setting up the Mac version and the iPhone and you are then sending to yourself (either to the iPhone Number or the Apple ID) then there is also no-one to notify as it will be synced back anyway.

  • IPhone 4S iMessage won't activate? Want to use phone number as iMessage instead of email?

The title says it all, please help.

    ACTIVATING FACETIME AND IMESSAGES
Activating Facetime and Imessages on your phone requires the ability to send SMS messages and depending upon where you are that might be an international SMS.  Check with your carrier to see if your plan supports sending of international SMS messages.  If you are having trouble activating Facetime or Imessages turn them both off on your device and reset the device (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost)).  Wait for the device to restart and wait a minute and turn Facetime and imessage back on and wait for activation.  If that does not fix things read the following articles:

  • IMessage and Facetime won't activate phone number

    Hi guys.
    Here's the story.
I had an Unlocked iPhone 4, bought in Brazil and using a brazilian carrier, till recently, and both iMessage and Facetime worked normally, using my apple ID or my phone number.
After I was robbed, I got an iPhone 4S, factory unlocked, bought in the United States, and started using it with my brazilian carrier sim.
I restored my iPhone 4 backup, to maintain all my notes, calendar, photos, etc.
But now I noticed that facetime and imessage are not working with my phone number. They just keep shoping the message "Waiting for activation" or something like that, with my phone status as "Verifying".
I tried removing and re-inserting the sim, rebooting the phone, activating and deactivating imessage and facetime, but they just won't verify my number...
Also, when I check my phone on iTunes, the "Phone Number" field states "N/A". With my former phone the number would show on the iTunes screen.
Can someone help me? I am running on iOS 5.0.1., no jailbreak and using my brazilian Apple ID.
Hope someone can help, I tried several online tutorials, such as the timezone one, or the DNS router, and none worked.
    Regards,

I just activated a new iphone 4s and restored from a backup of my former iphone 3gs - had the same problem - Waiting for Activation on both facetime and imessage. I tried all the usual fixes, reset all, hard reset, turn facetime/imessage on and off, and on and on. 2 hours on phone with tech support to no avail.
I just found the fix on my own - no clue if it will work for everyone. But it's ridiculously easy and worth a shot so you don't waste hours and hours resetting/synching as I did.
All I did was go into settings>phone>my number - erase it by touching the ">". Then re-enter it making sure to input with the "+" and country code. For example in the US: +1(508) 569-9901
No hard reset necessary. I went into settings>facetime and imessage, immediately after inputting my phone number again and the dreaded "waiting for activation" message was gone. I tested sending a message - came thru to the other party fine and facetiming another device (my mom's ipad some distance away) and it rang thru with everything working properly i.e., video/audio.

  • Can I use iMessage with my old phone number?

Just moved overseas, got a new local phone number here in Australia. I'll be here for a year, so I left my US phone number active. I was hoping I could use iMessage to still text with folks back home via my old number, but once I activated the AUS phone number it automatically switched the phone number associated with iMessage on my computer over to the new AUS number. Is there any way to switch it back to my old American number, or otherwise add it to my iMessage?

    Hi,
If you add the Apple ID to both iPhones then the Mac version of the App should get the Pop ups to say that an iPhone is using it's Number and the Apple ID
By Accepting the Pop up it should add the iPhone Number to the list of "Receive At" IDs and numbers plus add it to the "Start Conversations From" drop down.
