IMessage won't work with 1 contact. (iOS7)

iPhone 4s with iOS7
iMessage won't work with only 1 specific contact.
Prior to updating i was able to iMessage with the contact in question without issue.
Both of us updated to iOS7 yesterday, since then messages between us are Text Messages only. We screwed around with everything. We discovered if i send to his email address (checkmarked with iMessage) it works. ALSO...after searching and trying different things, he can send me iMessages from his number, but when i respond it switches SMSs . FaceTime also works.
It works with all my other contacts without issues.
We both tried the following.
- deleting eahcother as contacts,
- resets (many)
- turned off iMessage (reset network settings)
- logging in and out of appleID in several locations
- removed checkmarks from emails/phone number
- on WiFi, on 3G
- phone restore
Start new conversation: only my phone # is checkmarked. receinve, I have 3 emails and phone number
any ideas?

Open Finder, press Option key, select Go > Library, open Preferences and delete com.apple.imessage.bag.plist and com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist

today I wanted to text my friend using iMessage.
I noticed that my friends name is not in blue. I see all my iMessage contacts in blue, except this my friend.
I tried to switch iMessage off on my phone and on phone of my friend, but it doesn't work.
What I can do to fix this problem?

Your friend's phone number is not properly registered with iMessage or the phone number you have for your friend in your contacts list is not correct. The number in your contact list must match exactly to the number your friend is using.

Why downloaded ringtone won't work with a contact on iphone5

I downloaded a ringtone and associated it with my sons number-he changed services to AT&T and has a new number. I can not get that ringtone to work with his new number, Why? It shows up and works in tones...is checked off for his ringtone, but will not work.
Actually, just tested....can not get ANY ringtones to work for his number!!

When he calls, does his name show up on the screen for the Caller ID? Have you tried completely deleting his contact and then adding it back as new? If you want before doing that, after you have changed his ringtone, do a reset on the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, see if the ringtone works for his calls.

Imessage will not work with some contacts

Hi there,
I'm new to iphone and need help with imessage. I can imessage and face time my wife, although it's always a blue bubble wether I'm on wifi or not. My brothers has an iphone which will imessage sometimes but will never connect for face time.
Is imessage spouse to work only when both phones are in wifi? Is there any way to force it into an imessage rather then SMS? Vodafone nz have told me that every time I turn it off and on again, I am charged. Is that normal?
I've tried that anyway, I've tried rebooting the phone, it just does what it wants all the time.

1. Both devices have to be running iOS 5.*
2. Internet latency can delay iMessage connection. If you enabled "Send as SMS", the phone will switch to SMS if iMessage doesn't connect quickly. If you disable Send as SMS, more of your messages will go through as iMessage.

Imessage won't work with one person?

I have an iPhone 4S and was texting a friend who also has one. Well she sent me a message back but it was sent as a text and I tried to text her back but mine went through as a imessage but wouldn't deliver. So I tried to resend it as a text but it failed to send. I thought it was my phone so I text others with an iPhone and it went through perfectly.? It is my phone or her phone that is messing up.? I kept getting text messages from her all that day but I never could reply back to her.

IMessage won't work with my email address?.?.?

i;ve set up my iMessage account with my old mobile me address (updated to iOS5 yesterday). when i try and send a iMessage to myself using my phone number it goes through, but when trying to send it to the email associated with my iMessage account, it just stays on "sending" and never goes through..
what am i doing wrong? thanks.

You have not associated the email address to the account. Its not activated. Go to setting and messages.

IMessage won't work with one individual

I use iMessage all the time, but have one friend who can't receive my texts in iMessage; they all arrive as emails. I can't receive any of his texts at all (I do get his emails, of course).
The solution seemed obvious when I discovered that his iPhone settings were set up to receive messages to his phone number only, not his email address. We corrected this, but it didn't solve the problem.
MMS is turned on for both of us. My iPhone is set up to use iMessage only, not SMS. His phone is now set to receive both kinds. Other than that, our settings for iMessage are identical.
Any ideas about what's going on here?

I updated my iPod to the ios6 Software and ever since I rebooted iMessage won't work. How do I fix this?

It won't work. It was working at first when I updated but then after like 2 hours it wouldn't work. I rebooted it and THEN it wouldn't work. Imessage won't work/activate after 5.1

I updated to 5.1 this morning, and now my imessage won't work. I try to turn it on, and I just get an activation error. "An error occurred during activation, try again".I've read in some other posts that my phone number should show by the imessage option? I don't see it anywhere. Once I get the activation error, then it provides me with the option to sign in using my appleID, but it when I do, it just keeps on reverting back to the sign in screen and won't connect. I've read through this forum and tried everything that I found - checked the date/time settings, checked my phone number, reset the networks, hard reset - and still it won't activate. What do I do?

OK I think the problem is probably related to the platform swap and you may need your account re-set. Only Adobe staff can do that. You need to contact Adobe directly using the link below. Use the dropdown menu for boxes (1) & (2) to scroll down the list and choose:
