Imessage wont upload it just turns blank and when i try to turn it off in settings it doesnt let actually me get into messages it just freezes

i have an iPod that is 5th gen and when i try to get into it it doesn't do anything its blank and when i try to turn it off in settings it doesn't do anything it doesn't even let me into the messages in settings my screen just freezes! PLZ HELP!!!!!

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Reset all settings

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
