IMessage works on "Guest," not personal desktop

A few months ago I was having problems with my iPhone, and to make a long story short I ended up getting two replacement phones within a day from my local Apple store. Ever since I started using my new phone, iMessage on my MacBook Pro OS X 10.9.5 hasn't been working. I've looked through just about every thread on here trying to find a solution and I can't find one. iMessage works on the "Guest" desktop but not on my personal desktop. I've run out of ideas and have tried just about everything to fix this problem, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Here is almost all of what I've tried:
- Repairing permissions
- Trashed related preference files
- Booting in safe mode and attempted to log in
- Created another account on my Mac and attempted to log in to iMessage/Face Time
- Reset time zone and date/time settings to "auto."
- Disabling iCloud on my computer and re-logging in
- Disabling Flash from storing data locally
- PRAM reset
- Checked my Apple ID to ensure there are no other phone numbers/emails associated
other users can not log in using their accounts.

  • Only offered work e-mail, not personal.

I am trying to set up my e-mail but when I go on to set up my email I only get the option ' I want to use a work email account with a blackberry enterprise server'. When I do click on this it asks for an activation password. More to the point I want to be able to use a personal email, not a work email. Can anyone help?!

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?
You must, in order to get the personal email setup and RIM push email functions you are looking for, as well as addtional BlackBerry data services such as the internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.
So, call your carrier and inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.
If you are CERTAIN you have that specific data plan , please post back here.
    Good luck.

  • Imessaging not working for just one person.

I have an Iphone 4S and my friend jst got an Iphone 5. She still has her iphone 4s and Imessaging works just fine with that.  But once she got her Iphone 5 we haven't been able to send Imessaging back and forth.  But it still works on the 4S.  Anyone know how to fix that?  I reset the settings on my phone, but that just made it so i couldn't imessage her at all, just sends as a regular text.

She should log out of iMessage, then log in again.  That usually fixes these types of problems.

  • IMessage on MacBook Pro not working anymore?

Hi, so here I will lay out my whole problem.
I have a MacBrook Pro and have had no problems with iMessage in my entire life. But I recently broke my iPhone 5C, and ordered a used Verizon 4s off Ebay, and when I activated it I was immediately able to use iMessage from my cell phone. But it refuses to work on my laptop. Every time I try to log in with my Apple ID again on iMessage on my laptop, it processes for a few seconds and then says "Could not sign into iMessage: The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."
It has been like this for a couple weeks, and I try every once in a while just to see, with no luck.
Today I tried to see if FaceTime would activate with my apple ID and that wouldn't work either.
My apple ID works perfectly on my phone for app downloads and everything else, so I don't think it could be my ID....
Does it have to do with my new phone? Is there a setting on there I have to change so I can access iMessage on my laptop?
Or is it just my laptop?
(* I do have the iOS 8 update on my 4s, btw)
    Thanks!

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are many possible causes for it. Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
Before proceeding, test on another network, if possible. That could be a public Wi-Fi hotspot, if your computer is portable, or a cellular network if you have a mobile device that can share its Internet connection. If you find that iMessage works on the other network, the problem is in your network or at your ISP, not in your computer.
    Step 1
Check the status of the service. If the service is down, wait tor it to come back up. There may be a localized outage, even if the status indicator is green.
    Step 2
Sign out of iMessage on all your Apple devices. Log out and log back in. Try again to sign in.
    Step 3
Restart your router and your broadband device, if they're separate. You may have to skip this step if you don't control those devices.
    Step 4
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ About This Mac
Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.
    Step 5
Take the steps suggested in this support article. If you don't understand some of the steps or can't carry them out, ask for guidance.
    Step 6
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If the box marked SOCKS Proxy is checked, uncheck it. You don’t need to change any other settings in the window. Click OKand then Apply. Test.
The result may be that you can't connect to the Internet at all. Revert the change if that happens, or if iMessage still doesn't work. Remember that you must Apply any changes you make in the preference pane before they take effect.
    Step 7
    Select from the menu bar
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Storage
    and click
Block all sites from storing information on this computer
    Close the preference pane.
    Step 8
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to find and delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name. Log out and log back in.
    Step 9
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
If iMessage worked in the guest account, stop here and post your results.
    Step 10
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you start up, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound outputand Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. After testing, restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and test again.
If iMessage worked in safe mode, but still doesn't work when you restart in "normal" mode, stop here and post your results.
    Step 11
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.apsd.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 12
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Step 13
    Reinstall OS X.
    Step 14
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or contact Apple Support.

  • IMessage (Macbook pro) suddenly not working!?

My imessage from my macbook pro is not working! When I send a message, it automatically displays a red exclamation point and the name of the person I am sending it to turns red. When I click on that it tells me that their number is not registered with imessage! I've sent imessages before (today even) and I don't know what happened. I think I may have messed with some preferences because I was trying to change security preferences, but maybe I accidentally clicked something I shouldn't have? I know it is me because I get the same error for every person I try to message. It works from my phone, though.

  • OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4: imessage works fine in safe mode, but not in "normal" mode. Any hints?

My iMessages does not work in "normal" startup, but it works perfectly in safe mode.
    Any hints?
I have the same problem on a MacBook Pro 17" and on a MacAir 13" mid 2011.
On my MacMini, iMessage work's fine.
I'm using same apple ID on all 3 devices.
Before update to 10.8.4, i had no problems.
FaceTime also stopped working after update to 10.8.4.
    Thanks in Advance,

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -f -a TextEdit
    Step 4
    ls -A /e*/{la,mach}* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • IE 10 not working in "Metro"...desktop works fine

Windows 8 Enterprise 64-bit, with all patches through December, running on Lenove X200T...IE 10 working fine on the desktop, but not at all in Metro/Modern/Windows 8Store/whatever version. It simply does not open a window when I select it...Task Manager
does not show any IE running. All works perfectly well in the desktop.
It was running prior to the December patches, which sort of points to the issue, but I would rather not remove a security patch...not that fond of browsing in that version anyway.
Has anyone else noticed this issue, and if so, is there a resolution.
    Regards,
       John

    Hi John,
First, you can check whether system restore could help.
Meanwhile, I would suggest you to reset internet explorer settings to its default settings:
    1). Open Internet Explorer.
2). Click the Tools button or press Alt key + X, and then click Internet Options.
3). Under Advanced tab, click on Reset.
4). Check the Delete personal settings box.
5). Click on Reset and then Close.
6). Close all open Internet explorer windows and re-open it.
    7. Test the issue.
Note: The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings that you added to the list of Trusted Sites. The Reset Internet Explorer
Settings feature might also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature.
Also, you can check the following thread:

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Remote Desktop Connection ok on work wireless but not from home

I've succesfully logged into the Win 2003 SBS (Terminal Services) from within the wireless connection at work using Mircrosoft's "Remote Desktop Connection". However when I try to do this from home I get the following error message "Either remote connections are not enabled, the computer is too busy to accept new connections, or network problems are preventing your connection. Try connecting again later or contact your administrator."
I've got the firewall on the mac on.
Now what I can't work out is why it works when at work and not from home. I have been searching for ages and can't work this out - annoying as I am sure it is very simple!
One thing I can think of is that the first time others connect via PCs they have to download the connection manager from the company web site which installs a security certificate. However this is an .exe file so cannae work on the Mac.
Do all I need to do is ask the IT administrator to email me the certificate and drop it into the keychain?
    Thanks in advance.

"Now what I can't work out is why it works when at work and not from home."
Probably because, if your work is smart, they have a firewall in place, blocking external access to the ports needed for use with RDC.

  • My iMessage and facetime is not working after updating to ios 7... My ipad works perfectly and it's the same apple id.  Any answers or reasons why on the iPhone 5 is not working???

My iMessage and facetime is not working after updating to ios 7...
Any answers on how to fix it?  I've tried to restart, restore connected to itunes, but nothing.

    ACTIVATING FACETIME AND IMESSAGES
Activating Facetime and Imessages on your phone requires the ability to send SMS messages and depending upon where you are that might be an international SMS.  Check with your carrier to see if your plan supports sending of international SMS messages.  If you are having trouble activating Facetime or Imessages turn them both off on your device and reset the device (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost)).  Wait for the device to restart and wait a minute and turn Facetime and imessage back on and wait for activation.  If that does not fix things read the following articles:

I had an iphone 4s and it worked nice with facetime and imessage using my phone number but  it was stolen on December so I buy a new iphone 4s using the same cellphone number  but now imessage and facetime does not work with my number, it only works with my apple ID.   Please Help me I speak Spanish so  if my English is not ok  I´m sorry about it.
Do you think that apple has to   reset in their database of the old serial number attached with my phone number and that’s why I can´t activate imessage and facetime with my number in the new iphone 4s??

I understand all of this Meg; that is why I bought an Iphone; but never expected my phone not even give a at least a 24 or even 12 hours....I work 12 hour shifts and also would expect to have to charge each night but not twice a day or more.  I am not always somewhere I can charge my phone.
Your points are true; however it doesn't help me......
